KitKat on G2 Lag issues! - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

well I just had 4.4 KitKat OTA downloaded through LG last night.
I presently have G2 version from south Korea. Does anyone of you here has experiencing lag issues with Android 4.4 KitKat OS update version from LG? I really do hope that they would consider making more updates from this current 4.4 OS version from G2.

Pretty sure you guys are the only ones that have KitKat right now. Might be wring but I don't think it has made it to the us or Europe yet

Did you mean to say the 'wiring' inside? hope its not! anyways, like I said, I was lucky that I bought this phone originally from Korea, got the 4.4 android downloaded last night, but then again, I got some slight and mild lag movements.

Well, most ppl do a factory reset after they get a major update, so I could suggest you try to do the same, back everything up, factory reset and try afterwards!

ICS just around the corner and GB is STILL not out!
Hopefully it will come with a new radio which can sort out my random battery drain problems.
Despite trying various radios, my battery seems to lose 3%+ per hour when sleeping so with very light use, a charge only lasts a little over 24 hours. I can only assume the problem is the radio as running Watchdog doesn't indicate that there are any rogue apps. I've tried recalibrating the battery to no end either.
As a matter of interest, which radio are other UK users trying at present? I'm currently on 1.77.30.

Exactly, ICS will be out for AT&T before we even get GB here in the UK. I reckon it could be a while yet as our respective service providers have to add all of their bloatware to it.

I haven't got a branded atrix so that shouldn't be a problem for me. But I don't know what I'm doing yet. Because if I restore my stock atrix I could potentially lose root and my unlocked bootloader. Meh the decision .....android is a God damn disease.....must have the new update!!!!! Lol

To be fair Orange dosent appear to have overly bloated it (for a change) Orange Wednesday and an account checker, however seeing as that is available on the market I cant see why it would be an issue, the only other thing I can see is the addition of AP's etc, but again that should all be automatic anyways.......
Orange always claim they need to test it with their network etc but I recon 2 or 3 weeks after it's released we ought to get it *he hopes*
i find it puzzling that the milestone 2 which is older than the atrix is getting the gb update at the same time. Great news for both of our communities. But time and time again...what the hell are Motorola doing with all there time???? lol
I put a question to Motorola via the facebooks, and they said the update will come out at the same time for orange / t-mobile branded phones as it does for unbranded phones.
Of course given the delays to date I suspect the mid-November date will slip, but we shall see
I've got a Tmobile UK Atrix which I've rooted , unlocked the bootloader etc....
Is it possible to get this phone back to a state where it can be upgraded or will I need to wait until somebody does their magic and creates a CWM image to flash?
I'm really unsure how this works as I've seen many warnings about NOT reverting to Froyo if running GB.
Has anyone tried this?
I'll believe it when see it -Moto talk a lot a Kak.
Roll on the Nexus & I can dump the Atrix

If it's a gingerbread rom flashed through recovery you should be fine. Its just the SBF file to be wary of. If you've flashed a gingerbread SBF don't flash a froyo SBF. or you will get a hard brick.

For sure you will loose Root access but you can get it again under Gingerbread.
Regarding the Bootloader I believe that it's a little bit different and I guess when you have unlocked it you can't go back!
If someone more confident can confirm?

FYI:
Retail update has been released today in the UK, and (if Motorola are to be believed) T-Mobile UK and Orange UK updates will be released within a week.
OTA servers are apparently running behind but updates can be updated using Motorola's Software Update software.
https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/512793#512793
with luck Orange will have a working copy of "Your Orange" this time too....bloody thing tells me to update then I get "Package not signed" and their CS department are hopeless
Next week is better late than never I suppose
Orange UK update released via Motorola Software Update tool (v45.31.0)
I'm updating now..
Thanks for the heads up - I've just updated my sons Atrix & all went OK.
Seems to run fine on GB 2.3.4 although only tried for an hour or so as it's gone back in the box ready for Xmas
After all of this I have decided to sell my atrix....even bought a play and work kit. But its just not doing it for me. Lol
I appreciate everything all the developers do. But the forums just seem so quiet, even compared to my old desire, that forum is s**t hot still. LOL. It is a shame though as this phone had some amazing potential.

I know how you feel. The Atrix forum, I felt, was never the most helpful of places. When I had my htc DHD, that forum was much more helpful.
Anyhow onwards & upwards - My Nexus came the other day so my Atrix is gather dust, probably chuck it in the bin shortly.

Are there two variants of the Sprint S4 and is there...

and is anyone experiencing any lag? I seem to get more than normal. I've had it two weeks and now considering to get an HTC One....
Yep..plenty of lag here. I don't think Samsung took the time to optimise the software on this phone. Hopefully further updates resolve this issue because there is no reason why a phone with as great as a processor as we have should lag this much. Not that it is extremely slow, its not unbearable but the One is noticeably faster. I have owned both. The S4 excells in all other areas beside speed and build quality.

Yeah, I agree. I hope there is an update soon. Rooting it does make a difference in speed though. But I don't really want to keep it rooted unless I have to.

That's very very weird. I have used both plenty. And the S4 is plenty faster then the One. I went onto AOSP right away tho on my S4 so that might be it. All the people complaining about lag were on the original shipped out software on the phone. From what I have read though, the latest update to TW fixed all the lag. And it's not that they didn't optimize the software, it was only the first week of the phone being out give them a break.
And anyways, on Stock my phone runs u believably fast with literally not a sliver of lag :/ I've owned every Galaxy and my best friend has owned quite a few of the latest HTC devices, IMHO only thing The One arguably has on the S4 is build quality, and that's completely in the eye of the beholder. I think the One is a big clunk of metal and I actually love the build of the S4, didn't like the S3 but they squared it out with the S4.
Ooops sorry about the rant. And not trying to start a competition or flame war about the devices, both are top end and great phones, every one loves what they love, and what I love has nothing to do with what you want.. As long as your happy with your device who cares.
But really just throw on the latest update or try AOSP, running Slimbean right now absolutely flawlessly.

Keep in mind that after I rooted it, there was no lag but I returned it to stock. Thereby the lag returned. You say that there was an update. How would I know if I received the update? It's likely that I received it already and still experiencing the lag. It's also likely the other poster may have received the update as well.

Simply getting root access shouldn't change levels of lag or the lack of it. Is that all you did, root it?
Check your firmware version in about phone, the latest is MDL, its still rolling out so if your still having lag that's most likely why.
If you don't know that you received it. You didn't. A notification pops up saying a system update is available and you have to click and click accept the update. It doesn't just update itself.

Mine was extremely laggy, I was contemplating taking it back and getting my One back that I turned in for the s4 because of it then I came on here and found about the update that is apparently semi hidden because you have to clear Google frameworks app data to get it but after the update my phone Flys almost as fast as the One...... It is noticeably faster than before the update

Well, I recall getting an update earlier on. But not sure if this was the one.... which is why I was hoping that there was a way to find out for sure if the device has received an update.
I think it's laughable to see that someone thinks rooting would not change the amount of lag a device experiences. I've rooted since my first android phone (htc droid eris) and I can assure you that rooting with the right ROM does in fact improve some features of the phone, including speed/lagging.

The person was strictly talking about rooting not installing a ROM. Which is true all rooting does is open up your device for total control of the phone, from there you can do many things to help with the lag, but just rooting wouldn't affect lag. Not everyone installs a ROM after rooting.
Sent from my SPH-L720
If you have lag than you dont have the update.....and yes the update will give you trouble with root. But there are workarounds...... I personally unrooted to get the update. Going to run this for a bit until my next move....

You misunderstood me. I didn't say anything about tweaks, flashing roms, kernels, or anything. I said root, referring to simply giving yourself superuser access.
That has nothing anything performance wise. It's just granting yourself root access. So when you said your performance and lag changed when you rooted, I was under the impression you only rooted. You didn't say you flashed a different rom and it was faster, just that you rooted.

Oh my bad... I got caught up in a semantic complication. I think a lot us tend to use the term "rooting" interchangeably with installing a ROM as well. But yes, the ROM I chose did seem to remove much of the lag and made things snappier.
But I don't think anyone has answered the question...how can one tell if they have the update installed on their device?

[Q] My i9505 did shutdown by himself should I worry?

Hello my four days old Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 did a shutdown al by himself overnight while charging. Because of this my alarm didn't go off. All I needed to do is a normal boot and the phone worked fine, but I don't think its normal!
Should I worry? Is there maybe a log that I can look at to see what happened during the night? I suppose this isn't normal behavior? Someone else had this issue?
It's my first android phone, I always had an iPhone (3G, 3GS, 4, 4s and 5) never had this kind of issue. My wife also has a galaxy S4 and that one is working fine. At this moment it only happened ones so maybe it could be a coincedence?

i surely hope it is a one off... but i had same issue.. (i dont care about warranty) but i flashed cwm and wiped ALL (including system) and then flashed a stock rom with ODIN... no problems anymore but lets see what the updates and such will bring for you
Up until now no automatic shutdown. I'm really waiting for a good ROM like cm10.1. When that happens I will flash CWM.
Omega looks really good maybe I will try that tomorrow.
I'm having the exact same problem. Got my S4 May 1st and had these overnight charging shutdowns about 3-4 times since then. Quite annoying, specially when you' re using the alarm (which fortunately I don't).
Hope a future update will solve this soon....

[Q] Nexus 4 - no 5.0 update yet...

Hey everyone!
I got a new 8gb Nexus 4 a month ago for a great price and am using it now as my daily driver since I cracked my N5 and I am a bit bummed that it still hasn't received it's 5.0 update! It is already been nearly 2 months since they started rolling out!! My N5 already had it since the beginning of December. What is the hold-up? I don't know much about the system of ota rollouts (only that they start at about 1% of devices for the first week and in the next 2-3 they creep up to 25%, 50%, 75% and then the remaining 25%) but I am studying in the Czech Republic so I thought that it was effected by geographical location but I know people here already have 5.0 ota's on there N4s :/ So why haven't I got it? What is the problem? I am on 4.4.4 build number KTU84P....
What are my options to update manually? I don't want to use the Android SDK to update so are there any other options?? I know I could update flashing the factory images but can I do this without the SDK? I don't think the update will come and I don't want to wait any longer
Google 15 second adb install xda. That'll setup adb and fastboot on your pc. Then use fastboot to flash the factory image.

I rooted and customized my N4 without a PC. Follow these steps:
1) Download and install Towelroot. Once it installs and reboots u should be rooted.
2) Download SuperSU and update binary the normal way.
3) Next download BootUnlocker For Nexus Devices. Install and tap on unlock. U should reboot and when the "Google" boot logo shows up there should be a unlocked lock.
4) Download BusyBox and install
5) Download TWRP Manager and install the latest TWRP version for mako.
6) You're done, press volume down+power when u turn on your phone to get access to TWRP.
I can confirm, I did this myself and like u I was stuck running 4.4.4 and I am using SimpleAOSP 5.0.2 and in my opinion its a lot more stable than Stock L

Is the 5.0.1 release stable?? Is there not working? How is batterylife?

The 5.0.1 is very stable. There are a few little bugs in it but it's not so bad.
The battery life is okay, I use mine the whole day and on the end of the day he is like 15-20% remaining. Better than on Kit Kat.

You are asking questions that are really hard to define and VERY user-specific. For me personally, I have a Nexus 5 and my wife has a Nexus 4. Both units are completely stock and have never been rooted or messed with in any way. For us, 5.0+ has worked perfectly and has no major issues. I do not experience the "memory leak" that people scream about, and I get as good if not better battery life as I've ever gotten. I'm sure someone will immediately jump in and proclaim that I'm an "apologist" or a "Google fanboy" and that there are countless problems that are well documented and I'm just delusional. But for my wife and I, we simply haven't had any issues as daily users of the phone and the latest OS. For me, I didn't wait for the OTA, I sideloaded the updates and it was a VERY simple process. Hardest part was getting the drivers correct but once I figured that out, it was 10-15 minutes at most to upgrade each phone.
Ohh glad to hear that. My Nexus 5 performed the same I would say. Maybe even a tad better when compared to 4.4.4... Anyway glad to hear the N4 is the same (come to think if it, this phone has REALLY surprised me.. I initially skipped it and stuck with my Gnex until the N5 came out. But sadly I dropped that a few times while taking photos skiing and some moisture got into it and the screen cracked... As a student I can't afford the £178 repair just after Christmas so I looked around for a new cheaper phone. Was going to get the Motorola G but saw that there are still a few NEW N4's for £100! And since I've had the past 4 nexus devices it was a phone I just had to get. On 4.4.4 I literally can't tell the difference in performance and everything else in that matters is great! The screen is so-so - not because the resolution -> actually don't really notice anything bad at 720p and don't need 1080p. But as on most IPS screens you can see most of the pixels when in direct sunlight. Just a bit more here compared to the N5. But after a month - a REALLY great phone. For an unbelievable price. Even the camera isn't that bad )
Sorry, now back to my question - do you have a guide which you followed to sideload lollipop?? If so could you please link it? I'm a bit scared - I really can't afford to brick this phone at the moment. Thanks allot!
