[ROOT] [CUSTOM] Just before rooting / Flashing - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I would like to install the last XNOTE which is ML2 without change the Knock flag. I think i can do that but i'am not sure, could someone tell me if i'am okay ?
Root with URLV if Firmware < MJ3 after downloading the PDA file on SamMobile
Flash It with Odin (PC) reboot / reboot
Download on SamMobile the ML2 from singapour
Flash the .tar.md5 with Odin mobile with everroot
Use Knokboxtool to install Xnote
Is there any problem to flash the modem from singapour (i'am in France) ?
Is there any problem to flash with odin mobile the .tar.md5 PDA (will it install the last bootloader ?)
Thanks a lot,

You need to read A LOT, especially if you want to keep 0x0. There is no guarantee whatever method you use that you will preserve KNOX 0x0 - Once you feel comfortable in practicing what you have read, then give it a shot.. but prepare yourself for 0x1 just incase.
As for modem flashing, not sure if it will trip KNOX or not. but you need to extract/grab the modem you require and flash it once you have the ROM in place etc.
Two methods I have read
Kn0x0ut and argh can't find the other method, but it is via mobile Odin

Thanks i will use MOP, it's more sure and i know it. My question is now, can I use a modem/csc from Singapour when my mobile is in France (i know the LTE network is a bit specific here) ?
Maybe rooting -> Flashing stock MK2 with everroot -> Flashing Kernel/Firmware without Modem/CSC ML2 -> XNOTE 7 is a better option ?
In this post they don't care and install ML2 over MK2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48968352#post48968352
Thanks

Well you can flash any modem you wish, whether they work or not is a different matter. I haven't flashed or played with modems so cannot advise you on this I'm afraid.

[Q] [I9500] flashing custom firmware over official fw w/knox 0x0

hello folks,
i've searched the forum and couldn't find an explicit answer for my question.
i have i9500 and i'm upgrading it's firmware to the lastest available on weekly bases, i use odin and just flash the newer firmware over the existing one, without wipe and it all seems to work just fine as it is.
now, i know for a fact that my bootloader is KNOX enabled and my KNOX flag is 0x0 (active warranty)
my question is - can (not should - bat CAN) i flash custom roms? i mean, i don't care about warrany or KNOX flag 0x1, just want to know if i can grab PAC i.e and follow the regular installation instruction without hard-bricking my device?
i would very appreciate any certified answer.
regards
There are some ROMs that u can flash without void ur warranty and u will have android 4.3. Anyway If u dont care about warranty only u have to:
1. Download correct Rom for ur device (.tar file)
2. Open Odin and flash it
OR
1. Download correct Rom for u device (.zip file)
2. Open custom recovery, wipe all and install the ROM
3. Enjoy

Ok, here are the prerequisites for not getting the KNOX POX:
#1: Don't allow the flashing of the OTA update
#2: Don't Odin flash the official stock TAR firmware. (SamMobile or elsewhere)
#3: Don't Odin flash the 4.3 NON-HLOS.BIN
#4: Don't Odin flash any bootloaders
If you have NOT done either one of those four things you will NOT catch the KNOX.
You can Odin flash the 4.3 MODEM but it is completely optional.
See which one has the best signal for you.
( or keep the exisiting MODEM which is already in your phones.)
The phone will work just find with either the 4.3 modem or your existing one.
You can flash any cwm/twrp flashable 4.3 or 4.2.2 zip file stock or custom roms.
If you follow these rules above you will not loose audio, signal or wifi and you will not catch KNOX POX.
Now that's not too difficult to understand right? LOL

Yes, you can, but only custom roms based on 4.3 bootloader.

[Q] What if I unroot from Universal Root de la Vega v0.5 after firmware update?

Dear all,
This is my first post and I would like to thanks all experts and amateurs in xda which help me rooted my android devices in the past by reading their advice and using their tools in this forum.
I have one question... My Galaxy Note 3 N9005 has being rooted via designgears' Universal Root de la Vega v0.5 'cause my firmware AP is still at MJ1. If I were to update to the latest firmware via Mobile Odin Pro, and then unroot in SuperSU (let's say I wanna send my phone to samsung for servicing), will I still be able to somehow gain back the root?
Thanks
Rgds,
Lewis
To update with root select everoot and inject mop in MOP
To go back to stock BUT keep the old bootloader just flash any stock fw in MOP (no everroot and inject mop ticked -> unroot, dont use supersu)
Then send in
Get it back
Use urdlv on current firmware and flash
hit 'thanks' if i helped you

I do not think that will work - what I am afraid it might happen:
- let's say you start MJ1 + URLDLV
- you go MOP to MJ7 + root
- remove root by writing MJ7 again
(phone travels - or not)
- try to install URDLV for MJ7 (using Odin) - you do not gain root since the security leak was patched in MJ7!
The only way it MIGHT work could be something like:
- let's say you start MJ1 + URLDLV
- you go MOP to MJ7 + root
- remove root by returning (in MOP) to MJ1 again - this should NOT trigger knox since your bootloader is still the old one; HOWEVER downgrading like that should always be done IMHO with full wipe,
(phone travels - or not)
- you install URDLV for MJ1 and root again!
The two tricky parts here are:
a) returning from MJ7 to MJ1 with MOP wasn't really tested as far as I know
b) a lot more important - Samsung might very likely update your MJ1 - and remove the old bootloader

No, the (MJ7 patched) security hole was not in the bootloader, it was somewhere in SELinux (at a much later stage).
The change in the bootloader (and actually the fuse-burning part disabling the old bootloader) was done exclusively so you can no longer return to the older ROMs.
Its a moot point, as soon as Samsung fixes the phone they'll flash the latest firmware for your region (with the new bootloader), so you will trigger Knox warranty void if you then root...

How to ROOT NG1 firmwares leaving Knox 00

Hi all!
Yesterday I was finally able to root my ITV NG1 firmware (post 3June) manteining Knox 00!!!!
I'have used the genial idea of the mythic _alexndr from Note3 forum and Toweroot!
How to:
1 - download and flash with Odin (in my case ITV) NG1 firmware from Sammobile;
2 - download and install Towerloot - NOT USE NOW;
3 - download (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/97141308/p605/NEE-P605XXUCNF2 kernel.rar) and flash 4.4.2 NEE NF2 kernel (this firmware is older than 3 june);
4 - now you are able to root the device as usual with Towelroot (there are a lot of guides on XDA);
5 - download (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/97141308/p605/ITV-P605XXUCNG1 kernel.rar) and flash 4.4.2 ITV NG1 kernel.
6 - Check root with RootChecker anch check Knox00 with PhoneInfo;
7 - Enjoy!
IMPORTANT NOTE
Obviously step 5 (as is) is just for the owners of ITV devices, otherwise you need to have the proper kernel.
How to?
1 - Download and unzip (with winrar or 7zip) your firmware
2 - Take BOOT.IMG (that contains the kernel) and use it with this (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/97141308/p605/tar-Tool_Odin3-v3.07_by_mkh.mourad (1).zip) wonderful tool by mkk_mourad to prepare the .TAR of your proper kernel. What device do you have? We only concern with P600. Anything else is easy to root and keep Knox @ 0x0.

I'm speaking about P605 (and i haven't yet read nothing about root on fw dated after 3 june)!
I just want to thanks and confirm this worked flawlessly on my P605 with TPH CNG1 firmware. Thank you!
[Question removed. I just realized trowelroot never worked for P600, not because of the post June 3 Kernel date on the NI1 firmware]
very nice it works perfect

I used the kernel linked to by konroma on my P605XXUCNG1 malaysian firmware set and it worked fine for rooting with towelroot (although I had to re-sign in to my wifi). After rooting I extracted the boot.img from the original (Malaysian) firmware as per the insfructions and flashed that back in, so now I'm back on to latest stock kernel again but with root.

Hi ,
You can download the firmware from HERE
Works perfectly with latest TGY-P605ZSUCOD1 firmware
@mtvento
which kernel u flashed ?
Kernel from latest firmware (ITV)
Voilà new kernel from P605XXUDOB1_P605ITVDOD1_ITV (CSC Italy).
Follow the guide from OP, unzip the attached boot_img_P605XXUDOB1_P605ITVDOD1_ITV.zip, then flash boot.tar.md5 with Odin.
Tested today on my P605
KNOX 0x0

Downgrade ROM for TowelRoot

EDIT* SOLVED* - Solution in post #13 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57050358&postcount=13
Current ROM : KOT49H.G900FXXU1ANG9
Target ROM: G900FXXU1ANE2_G900FOXA1ANE2_BTU.zip
Model: SM-G900F
Reason for doing this:
I want root without tripping the KNOX bit, so I must use TowelRoot, but it's incompatible with my current ROM
I would like a ROM for my region (it's a grey import phone)
Can anyone confirm?
Will this flash trip the KNOX bit?
Will there be any issues arising from the fact the ROMs have different regions (one is Netherlands (I think?) target is UK)?
How can I verify that the kernel in "G900FXXU1ANE2_G900FOXA1ANE2_BTU.zip" is official and signed by Samsung before flashing? I downloaded it from here... http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/29315/G900FXXU1ANE2_G900FOXA1ANE2_BTU.zip/
I've looked around the forum and I'm confident it will be ok, but I rarely see people flashing different region ROMs. Any help and advice is much appreciated!
Thank you
1- Flash newest rom for your region with odin
2- flash old kernel with odin and then root your phone using towel
3- flash latest kernel with odin
Check here for roms link

Thank you, ok heres what I'll do
1. Download latest ROM for my region (UK) : BTU G900FXXU1ANG2 Android 4.4.2 03.07.2014 (BTU-G900FXXU1ANE2-20140512140232.zip)
Edit* 1.5. Wait for 600 hours for rapidgator.net's download to finish
2. Flash with odin (version 3.09 from the link on this page http://www.galaxys5update.com/firmware-g900fxxu1ane2-4-4-2-galaxy-s5-sm-g900f/ )
3. Download BTU G900FXXU1ANE2 Android 4.4.2 08.05.2014 (BTU-G900FXXU1ANCE-20140408194209.zip) (pre-June kernel donor ROM)
4. Flash kernel from 4.4.2 08.05.2014
5. TowelRoot
6. Flash kernel from 4.4.2 03.07.2014
7. Report back
I hope this works. I'm very concerned about the KNOX bit
Any good tutorials on only flashing the kernel from a ROM image?

You can open rom image with winrar and then extract kernel file (boot.img) and flash it with odin
Is there any way to make sure all the files are signed prior to flashing?
Not mirrors, but these files have the same descriptions and the download is much faster.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/34794/G900FXXU1ANG2_G900FVIR1ANG2_VIR.zip/
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/31537/G900FXXU1ANE2_G900FVIR1AND2_VIR.zip/
I assume there's nothing wrong with using the ones provided on sammobile.com with regards to tripping the KNOX bit?
Hit a snag,
Not sure how to flash 'boot.img'.
Will I get away with just creating a *.tar containing only 'boot.img' using 7zip and then flash with odin?
Anyone?
Finger is on the button
Update: Will gamble and proceed with the technique here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446269
I read that 7-zip tars are *NOT* compatible with odin (can't confirm).
Ok, everything worked.
But I'm a tool, and as some of you may have noticed I installed the Virgin Mobile ROMs rather than a carrier-free BTU version.
So I'm going to repeat the process and pray that flashing over a rooted OS doesn't trip the KNOX. (Does anyone know if it does or not?)
It's getting late tonight but I'll try and get back tomorrow with a final step-by-step.
Solved! Try at your own risk!
Thanks very much to iNTER5Love for leading me in the right direction!
SM-G900F Only!
As of today I am rooted running a post-June 2014 ROM and my KNOX status is 0x0!
Back story: I live in the UK and I bought a grey import S5 SM-G900F to save some cash (about £150!). It came with a different language and non-UK region specific ROM. I wanted root but my phone had a post-June 2014 ROM so TowelRoot wouldn't work. Keeping KNOX 0x0 was important to me also (this is day 1 and I didn't want to lose the warranty immediately.)
Rant: That said, I refuse to accept rooting voids the warranty. Despite what Samsung say, we are European consumers and we have rights! If root did not directly damage your device and you can prove it (after 6 months) or Sammy can't prove it did (before 6 months) then you have a warranty! Be prepared to fight for it though.
To business:
In my experiments I found that you can feel free to do the following without tripping the KNOX counter:
You can flash a different region ROM as long as it's official (e.g. from SamMobile)
You can root using TowelRoot
You can unroot using SuperSU
You can flash kernels using ODIN (again, as long as they are from official Samsung ROMs)
You can mess up at least once I accidentally flashed a Virgin Mobile ROM instead of a carrier-free ROM. I repeated the steps again and I was fine.
Materials you will need:
Target ROM (the ROM you want to be on when we're done)
Donor ROM (a ROM identical to the target, but with a build date before June 2014)
TowelRoot (for the 0x0 KNOX-safe root) - https://towelroot.com/
tar-Tool_Odin3-v3.07 (for preparing the donor and target kernels for flashing) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2446269
ODIN 3.09 - https://mega.co.nz/#!UdRRyCAT!H4FyVxYynNWvXqRNmnpMGQRCP-dG3uykgP2pT4rh8Ek
I've put the steps I took into guide form as follows...
Download the latest version of the ROM you want (Target ROM) AND a version of the target ROM with a build date before June 2014 (Donor ROM). The ROMs MUST be official ROMs released by Samsung (e.g. from SamMobile)
Flash the target ROM. The one I picked was a UK version and I was coming from a Baltic EU ROM.
Factory reset (not essential, but good for clearing residual bloatware)
Copy TowelRoot (https://towelroot.com/) on to your device now! (I found that after the next step the system is very unstable)
Extract 'boot.img' (the kernel) from your donor ROM (using 7-zip)
Create an boot.tar.md5 from the 'boot.img' you just extracted using tar-Tool_Odin3-v3.07 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2446269)
Flash the file you just created with ODIN
Install SuperSU (or an SU manager of your choice – Essential to protect you from rogue apps!)
Run TowelRoot
Extract 'boot.img' from your target ROM
Create a boot.tar.md5 (same as before)
Flash the new boot.tar.md5
Finished
You are now effectively running your full Target ROM (we temporarily swapped out the kernel, then swapped it back in). Your system is now fully rooted. Your KNOX counter reads 0x0.
Closing Notes:
I've been researching for at least 6 hours. I've easily missed references, if you think I've used something of yours please PM me!
Please report back so others can benefit from your experience!
There is no guarantee this will work for you! Everything you do is at your own risk. If warranty is essential to you then don't try this.
