Have seen several questions about how to get one of these codes so thought I'd share an easy method...
http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_selector_chat?ws=support#
Click general. Tell them you are setting up windows phone 7 and it required an activation.
they asked for my name, phone number, and manufacturer of phone (HTC)
within a minute I had my code
Hope it helps
i went that link and found no "general".... geehh, wanted to activate wp today, but g2g sleep
maybe sum1 can pm me an activation code ?
By 'General' do you mean:
Product Sales, General Inquiries and Genuine Advantage Questions
Have non-technical questions or concerns that your product may be counterfeit or not genuine? Get live, real-time answers to your needs quickly by chatting online with a Microsoft representative.
I visit there, chat with the supporter... And he told me to call my local supporter.
I said I called but they couldn't provide me an activation code so I contact US.
He told me to call the activation center and didn't give me any code :|
Sorry for my poor Eng
I try the 2nd time and I got an activation code And it works like a charm!!!
yyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa there is no general section...I m in the usa...live right next to Microsoft...literally
I can confirm this works. I'm based in the UK - gave them name, uk number and said HTC 7 and they gave me a code no problems.
really working, i got activation too.

Still yet to test the code but i received an activation code within three minutes.
WHat section are people selecting. Can't see general. Says "Chat not available" on most of em :/
Cant see "Product Sales, General Inquiries and Genuine Advantage Questions" either and I've selected US as my location
EDIT: ok, can now. Stupid noscript in firefox
worked for me too from germany. just chose United states as location and got it.
hmm.. could you get me one? I tried but I can't seem to get in.
Please
tried chatting and they told me to call support
I tried chatting with general chat, as the instructions said, and they told me to call the technical support 800 number right away rather than giving me an activation code. I think they've caught on to this. :-(
Dammit, even though I selected united states as my location the agent said I was from the UK so I needed to give them a call
Worked for me now...after trying 6 or 7 times..
I don't understand why some of them are lying and saying that they dont have the tools to do it and that I have to call the support instead.
works like a charm!
had to give the support agent following informations: full name (real), phone number (my number), brand of phone (htc), no live id, no imei, no specific model name
had to wait a couple of minutes while she generated my key and got it!
Worked for me!
This is easier than I thought. I got an activation code within 5 minutes with the first rep. Thanks!

What did you tell them? I tried twice already. Even used an anonymous US proxy, cause the first time they detected that I'm from Russia and told me to call local Support. Anyway, both reps insisted on me calling a 1-800 number...

Hi,
This procedure is proven to be working. Tested in Belgium, The Neteherlands, France and Spain. Received word from colleagues in Italy and Swiss with a positive result.
A. Required information
Make sure to have this information with you before you call
- Windows Live ID
- Your last name
- IMEI number (enter *#06# using the dial pad)
- Knowledge of the English language
- Something to write down your activation key or your HD2 when you use another phone to call them
B. Procedure
Do NOT call the Microsoft Service center during business hours
The "trick" is to call your support center on sunday or after business hours. I think you have best chanse on Sunday around 15:00 hours. (time zone differense). I tried talking to our local MS Service center but they could not help. Probably they have a complete list of HTC IMEI numbers.
- Go to this website h p://www.microsoft.com/worldwide/region.aspx?region=Europe select your country and call the number indicated.
- The menu will "tell" you that the offices are closed and you have to call back later for support in your own language.
- Do not hang up!
- After a couple of seconds you will be notified it is possible to get support in English
- Wait until the voice start telling you the options
- Press "0" (0 is WP7 support for most EU countries, verified in BE, NL, FR, DK)
- Make the next best choise and wait for the operator
- Follow the operator's instructions
(they probably ask your name and if they may address you with your first name)
- Tell them you are asked for an activation key (maybe lie a little - 'is it something I have to buy?' )
- DO NOT LIE ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL INFO, NETWORK PROVIDER AND IMEI NR.
- Give all the info required
- Wait untill the operator gets back to you, be patiƫnt, they are putting your info in an database
- Write down the Activation Key
- Write down the reference number. In case you made a type you need this
- Be very grateful
Do not give your IMIE number as it will not match the HD7. They will block the number if you have given for your HD2. You have been Warned.....
Do you not realise that Microsoft have been reading these threads. Get your key quick, as you lot have blown it for everybody else..
I understand, however you should no worry that much.
I can tell you for a fact that MS already knows this for weeks.
As already discussed in other posts, they are happy to give you the activation key (free publicity) as long you do not ask an EU service center. They are bounded to EU regulations and may not give you the key.
If you call directly to an US service center with an hidden phone number they also will provide you the key. However your country has to match the IMEI country code you are requesting activation. And you need to prove that.
When you are transfered from your local service center to the global service center they have enough information to provide you the key.
I suggest you read up the previous threads first. Also good to know is that EU citizen are protected by the privacy law. For example when your modded Xbox 360 gets banned from live, you can just ask them to reactivate it and they will do so.

Hahahaha!!! LOL
Microsoft shot Kennedy, faked the moon landings and masterminded 9/11. "The Men" in black suits are outside your door right now and "They're coming to take you away! ha ha!"
Anyway, back OT, when I rang I was asked for my full name and Live ID, and then asked "Is it a HTC phone sir?" I said yes, he put me on hold for a bit and then came back with a code which he read out and also emailed me.
I think this will vary from CS member to CS member, but I don't believe that they have a regularly updated database of IMEI numbers that corresponds to every manufactured legitimate WP7 device out there. If you do get someone ask that, I reckon they're probably just doing it because they were told to, in the hope that it would scare off a few people.
Obviously conjecture, but I just find the IMEI thing a bit too much to believe.
I don't think MS is keeping a database with all the imei numbers. It's not their task to verify such things. Sure, they can check it up if they want to, requiring them to contact a third party, but why should they do it? I don't think Customer Service have the rights to do so, not without a legal notice. We are enthusiastic WP7 users, we don't commit any crime. Eventually the HD2 will become old and we have to buy new phones anyway and since we've already got used to WP7, we might as well go for it again.
If somebody managed to port WP7 to android devices, then a whole lotta users can get used to WP7, and even get an activation code from MS. Isn't that what they want? I'd say, it's a treat for commited users.
I happened to be in my local Sprint store that is a repair center, and was waiting on my fiancee to pay the bill when I happened to look through the glass where the techs are at, and they had a memo on the comp screen about the Froyo issues and the first thing they were to do is a ##RTN# to try to clear the issues, then a hard reset if that didn't work. I have my MSL, but IF I do a ##RTN#, do I need any other info to program back into my phone doing a reset that way, or not?
I just don't feel like waiting on Sprint to do it if I can do it myself since the basic hard reset didn't clear all my issues.
Well i just typed that in...in the view section just write all that information down and if you really want to test the reset then do it after your wrote all that stuff down.
Are you sure that's all the info I need? I'd hate to hose myself and have to go to Sprint.

well when i activated my phone with that chat thing online all i needed was that DEC/HEX and at one point they gave me the MSID to enter into this one section. Im not sure where i went for that part but if something did go wrong you could just activate again online. you dont need to go to the Sprint store.
Rtn just puts it back to factory settings... don't need to reenter mdn or msid

Ok I just did it...
at first it took me to recovery mode and wiped all data and sht. So I rebooted and because of the rom I was on, I had to do the Android setup again bla bla. Then Hands Free Activation kicked up. Told me that it could not activate my phone >.< But it took me to the Sprint Zone app and I pressed "Activate my phone" and 2 mins later it was activated again.
this fixes gps issues, at least for me :3

I thought Knox Contacts,Phone,Email,S Planner, S Note,Downloads,Gallery and Camera when in Knox Mode are supposed to only show under Know and not under Personal. The call logs from the Knox are not being separated from the ones in Personal. Can the call logs/list be separated?
Used the latest N beta build for a while now and I am quite happy, but today when I tried to unlock my bootloader to root N I discovered that I lost my unlock code so I wanted to get a new one from the HUAWEI homepage but for the life of me I cant get it to work. Also from what I remember the code I get from *#*#1357946#*#* is different from the one I got under MM if that is even possible. I am not able to get the unlock code at the moment ... any help would be greatly appreciated thx
