No one as of yet has posted in the South Florida area. Hopefully someone brings one home
There is a guy that claims to have 5 in hand here on the Seattle craigslist...$400 each. I'll wait until June 4th...
For me, the extra premium was worth it. I was going to get an Evo 4g when it came out and I'm only 10 months into my 2 yr contract with Sprint so after the ETF + the cost of the Evo 4g + California taxes on the original price, the cost would've been comparable. And this way, no new contract to sign or rebate to deal with.
I see your point. I am currently on AT&T using an iPhone 3GS, so waiting works for me. I am hoping to sell the 3GS for close to enough to cover the cost of the EVO plus my ETF.
wow someone has one close to me for $450 but ive pre-ordered already. I think i can wait...... .=(
Look on eBay. Noone in PA is going to have one so I bought one on eBay. Hefty premium including the overnight shipping I requested but totally worth it. I get it on Saturday! yay!
damn. there is one guy close by me but he's asking close to $700. i think im going to wait until the 4th.

yeah that is just silly. Wait it out like the rest of us and have some scratch to buy some cool accessories... like the HDMI dock or something.
Yeah the people putting them up for 700 are nuts. Call and offer them 400-500 and they will sell.
I just bought mine from some guys from another country and couldn't use at home, they are here for another week (SF). They had 2 more and were willing to sell for 450, they asked me if I knew anyone else who wanted to buy them.
I referred them here... so they may pop up in this thread.
O/ Roberto
Thanks for the EVO.
I have one to see and I am based in Cupertino and San Jose if anyone is interested.
I think $450 is too low, these guys must really want to get rid of it...
It includes a month's worth of unlimited usage and an 8Gb SD card and the ability to get the Google I/O plan...
I posted it on Craigslist for $600, but I'll let it go here for $550.
Let me know if you are interested.

What is the google I/O plan?
"Sprint is offering Google I/O attendees a special discount on Everything Plus Data Plans for new Sprint customers or existing customers who wish to add an additional line of service."
"After 30 days:
We would love to have you as a permanent Sprint customer.
Sprint is offering Google I/O attendees a special discount on Everything Plus Data Plans for new Sprint customers or existing customers who wish to add an additional line of service. This special offer is only available to Google I/O attendees. To participate in this offer, please call 1-877-527-8405 to activate your plan."
I don't know what the details are...
Anyone else care to elaborate on the "special discount"?
I was about to pre-order my Nexus 7 (16gb) from the Play store when I saw the total of $280! I live in California, and was really expecting no sales tax, and cheaper shipping. Possibly an option for longer, but cheaper shipping? I don't want to sound like the annoying, unsatisfied customer. I'm merely wondering, will the tablet hit stores in the US? I know the Uk will be getting the 16gb ones the end of July in stores, but couldn't find anything on the US. This would avoid the $14 shipping costs, and would also allow me to make an easier return if something was wrong.
Thanks
Well dont forget since you pre-order it directly from google, they do give you subscription to magazine, 1 free movie and 25$ in the play store.
So in the end, that shipping cost is really not that bad since they make up for it.
Engadget just came out with a story stating that Gamestop will carry the device. They will even give in-store credit if you trade or sell them a tablet.

This + after you factor in the value of your time and the cost of your transportation (gas, taxi, bus, w/e) I would say the shipping costs are far offset...

I wouldn't say NO chance. It WAS up for preorder on the Gamestop site (has since been removed) so I assume there's a possibility that other places will sell it. They might all only sell the 16GB model though since the profit margin on the 8GB version might be too low to bother.
Also, the Gamestop website (when it was up) showed the preorder release date as 7/31/2012 so if you preorder from Google's Play store, and they do release it mid-July like they said, you're paying a little more to get it early which some people don't mind.
Ebuyer.com are taking preorders on the 16gb £199 with free shipping works out cheaper than it does on the google site.
Im guessing that soon other shops/sites will also have it available for preorder soon

If Gamestop has taken down their page it's probably to fix something, I'm sure they'll bring it back later. Also, generally within a few months other companies should start carrying the device, like they did with the Galaxy Nexus. Lastly, you guys should considering that if you do buy from the Play Store, yes you do get charged 13.99$ for shipping, however for 2 day shipping that is incredible, and given the fact that when purchased through the Play Store you get 25$ store credit to purchase apps, books, movies, etc + the magazine subscriptions they bundle for free, I say it's worth it.
on the play store google says
"Sign in to your Google Play account and we'll give you $25 of credit to spend in the Play store, as well as some great free content."
what exactly is this free content? I know the transformers movie is one of them (which i honestly don't care about), and I've heard something about magazines

Also I just took a second look at the cnet article I linked to and it appears that yes Gamestop will also include these freebies and credit. Although I don't know how they'll implement it.

It's probably automatically given to every account that activates a Nexus 7 tablet for like all of July and August or whatever range of time that pick. That's my guess since it seems Gamestop purchases also get the free content.

Hmmm. So the Gamestop page for the Nexus 7 is back up (http://www.gamestop.com/android/tablets/google-nexus-7-16gb-pre-order-only/102893) and they removed any mention of the $25 credit.

I read all the fine print in the google play store when the page was published and im 100 percent sure i read in re: to 25 dollar credit that it was only valid for purchases made from the play store, so unless gamestop is ordering from the play store or something which seems crazy then it would appear there is no credit for orders from them, although i wouldnt be suprised if google didnt argue with someone and gave you a 25 dollar credit if you asked about it.

Maybe that's why the Gamestop page was pulled for like half a down before coming back up. They had the wrong information.
Talked to a Google Rep last night while trying to cancel my 8gb for a 16. I asked him if I'd still get the $25 and he said yes, but only from the play store and only before it hits stores, though he didn't give me a deadline. I assume its sometime in the next 3 weeks.

I can't believe its $280 to Cali! Its only $263 to Hawaii. Generally I'm used to sucking up and forking over extra shipping for Hawaii, but for whatever reason it was relatively cheap.
Unless you want to pick it up at a gamestop or find it through another retailer, i wouldn't expect to find it much cheaper.
i have a problem with saving money and since i don't usually have $740 in spending money in a paycheck, i bought $100 in gift cards the other day to "save" for this phone. the writing on the cards says it can be used for more than just apps, games, music, and movies. it mentions the Google Wallet app, so that's what i tried to use to redeem them. the section for gift cards is just a place to make a note of the gift card code. i called customer service and was informed that they do not allow gift cards to be used for device purchases. it does list a link on the back for full regulations, but the rest makes reading that seem unneeded. the store will not take them back even though they were not redeemed, so i am disputing the charges. i just wanted others to know in case they had the same idea. someone at Google should really send out stickers that tell people up front that they are not good for devices.
common sense really... just because it doesn't say you can/can't buy devices doesn't mean you can. Knowing Google if you push hard enough they might refund you and disable the gift card.
It does suck... next time if you're going to spend that much money on something do a little research and it will help you in the long run.
I work in retail and I can tell you no store will ever take gift cards back. We make absolutely no money on those purchases. We are just the middle man. It's always recommended to check the full limitations of the cards before purchasing them because stores can't return them.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
Wow that smacks, but it really sounds like a case of no research done, i mean really i don't think anyone uses gift cards except in small amounts and during holiday season for novelty gifts.
Also if you can't save money in your current account why did you not set up a direct debit to another account ?????

The stores make a commission on the sale of the cards, so they do make money. I manage a store, I see it on my bottom line at the end of each period. But we still don't take returns on them, but that is more the gift cards rule than hours because there is no way to deactivate a card.

i would get into further contact with google regarding your issue, if you speak to a regular rep, request to speak with a manager. Obviously they want your money in one for or another. If you apply yourself you may be able to strike some sort of conclusion to your problem
I remember someone trying to do this before. Like you realized, it's a no go. Hopefully Google can do something for you, but at the end of the day, you might be be stuck with the gift cards. Maybe you can take a hit, and sell the gift cards for $90?

Anyways.. Your fault for assuming with such a large amount of money
not to play devils advocate but Ive never understood the thought process behind not accepting gift cards as cash.
If you pay $100 to get a google play gift card.. google gets that $100. $100 is $100 regardless of how its paid so why would google say Hey we will take your $100 in cash/credit card/paypal etc which has credit card processing fees associated with it and not take gift card balances which were paid the same? they already have the money so what gives? Maybe I myself dont understand how gift cards work with Google and iTunes. Is there more to the actual money exchange and where it ends up then most people know about?

Give him a break, he wants to buy this phone out right. Is it the smartest thing in the world? No, but what ever we live in a capitalist society.
He made it quote clear that he want to save just enough to buy this phone. People save a set amount of money with full intention of spending it on a purchase they can't afford upfront.
I think you should be able to use these cards, but you can't so nothing you can do about it?

I already have about $50 in Play Store Credit. I'll get another $100 from two Nexi purchases. I wish there was a way to convert that credit into Google Play Store Gift Cards so I can gift them. It's still a Google Play Store Gift card and goes straight to Google. I just don't understand why Google doesn't allow us to do something this simple and obvious. Anyone have any workarounds to make something like this possible?
I saw some suggestions on creating an App that takes in-app payments and using it. Seems convoluted and I'd lose 30%. But I guess I may just try that.
That is convoluted, but if you were going to not be able to use it at all in a year it would be better than losing it.
Edit: does it work to pay for Google Music? Maybe try that?
Because if they allowed you to exchange them for a physical gift card you can resell them to a number of sites that buy gift cards. Most if not all of them do not accept e-gift cards or cards that expire like the Nexus gift.
Ebay does not allow selling e-gift cards either (although plenty do). I'm not sure what happens if you get flagged on eBay selling an e-gift card.
To be honest I don't really know what the credit can be used for. I guess whatever crap that's on the play store like music and movies which I can probably get for free otherwise?
I'll likely just use it to support app developers and buy paid versions of their stuff.

I'm pretty sure you are just emailed a code for the $50 when ordering the phones. So all you have to do is give that code to the person you want to gift it too and they redeem it

That's right. I already got the code for the 6P which will arrive tomorrow. The problem with the $50 code is that it's a lot for a single person. But if I could have split it into 2 $25 or the $100 into 5 $20, it would make a much easier gift to give to family and friends.
I already have paid apps for any apps that I use. I have a few in the wish list, but nothing really compelling. I'm never going to buy any of the ridiculously priced movies. I get most of my music from Amazon. But most of my music is really ripped from my CDs. Google doesn't have a particularly good India music collection.

While I 100% agree, if people would stop paying out the azz they would stop selling them.
If you read the article reported elsewhere, the people doing this were ordering through the website and evading sales tax. I highly doubt Google would shut down an individual that ordered it then sold it.

I thought it was individuals who ordered then just decided to sell but it seems phones were ordered in bulk then being resold for a big markup on another site, at least thats what the one article i read was saying
As someone who has access to special inventory I can get them next business day but I didn't want to take advantage of it because I didn't think it was fair to other users. I'm glad to see that Google is taking action against those who are trying to profit from this behavior as I've never thought it was right to do so. Phones/Game Consoles/etc all frustrate me when I see people trying to sell them for profit because they have scripts, etc that have bled inventory dry.
