Hello, i purchased a "new" lg g2 from HK.
The device came with SU installed and had no plastic on the screen.
Also - when trying to update to kit-kat it says "device is not registered'.
Could this be a new phone? Is it fake? Or just used??
Thanks!

You could type *#06# into your dialler and the IMEI should show up. Then you can type your IMEI into this URL behind "esn=" instead of ***
Code:
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=***
If it's a fake I'd guess you'd get something like this:
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=AnyRandomNonG2IMEI
Code:
<response req_cmd="auth_model_check" status="FAIL"/>
If the IMEI is good that link should give you a link to the latest firmware for your particular model, like this for my D802
Code:
<sw_url>
http://csmgdl.lgmobile.com/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=FW157106432109876543213/D80220F_00.kdz
</sw_url>
and you can probably flash that according to this thread to get the device to factory default and latest official update.
or at least that's what I would try

So i clicked the link from my lg g2 and got the "fail" message. Does that mean the phone is fake?? What should I do about it??
but
Then again, I Checked imei.info and got lg g2 d802....

If you put your IMEI into the URL and a fail came back I would say that means that the device you have is not in fact an LG G2.
The clickable link I posted is a counter-example of what you should get and not indicative of anything. Copy
Code:
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=***
into the address bar in your browser and replace *** with your IMEI. The IMEI is the number that should show up when you type *#06# into your dialler (you can also find it under Settings>About phone>Status>IMEI).
Then hit enter and see what shows up.
Keep in mind I can't say for sure as I have never encountered that case... Maybe try to find more things that could indicate the authenticity (or lack thereof).
Check the "About phone" section in your settings, dig through the build.prop file etc (you'll find stuff if you google I'm sure)

Well there you go, now if you follow my link (plug in your IMEI first) then you can download a factory image and flash that to completely restore/update the phone
Edit: I guess that also means that the device is not new as it has at least been rooted...

So wierd, i ordered 4 phones, two work and the other 2 gives "fail" message.
They look identical in every way, software and firmware wise... could this device be stolen or just not registered as a "sold" unit at lg??

Sorry, I have to pass on this one did you check imei.info as well? maybe the site I suggested cant handle certain model variants of the G2 (there are about 8 different variants).
If you can, get the app Build Prop Editor by JRummy and search for "ro.product.model" or simply "model" and see what comes up. (Maybe use a seperate google account so you wouldn't associate your regular one with a potentially stolen device...)
or compare the info in Settings>About Phone. (just bangin' rocks together here...)
well
Phone seems to be genuine, i ran some benchmarks and cheked and compared all setting.
Only problem is it's not registered at LG for some reason.
Anyways - i don't really care about OTA updates, but can LG brick my phone or block it??
@dorlev you maybe can try to flash stock kdz or tot, it may sounds weird but who knows. As far as i hear your story the device isnt registered in the LG database. So you could contact lg support maybe about that and or check also the link from preggy with your imei. Dont post your imei here btw
THis is general thread. Post it at Q/A.
Ok. Im not even exactly sure where to start but im pretty sure someone tried to install a different rom on it and had no idea what they were doing. Here is what i know about the phone.
Galaxy S5
SM-G900F
G900F GSMH
Issues :
IMEI does not exist on the phone.
Volume down does not work (Cannot boot into recovery) I think its a firmware issue and not hardware (IE: the button works, but not detected, could be wrong)
SD Card not detected
Cannot connect to a PC to use ODIN (Doesn't detect it)
Dialer codes do not work, i think it has to do with the IMEI
Ok when i first got it i tried some program called EFS Backup and that is the only program i have got to interact with the phone (It restarted it, lol), also tried ADB, dont know much about it but tried to use it to boot into recovery.
It rebooted it.
Um. not really sure what else to include. Tell me and ill add it. ANY advice would be appreciated.
Of course my goal is to be able to activate and use the phone and install its original IMEI back on it. I know it will take quite a few steps but ANY help would be great.
You can boot into the phone right? Look in settings/general for developer options. If it isn't there scroll down to about phone. Click on baseband version until developer options are enabled and go in and make sure USB Debugging is turned on. That may be why Odin isn't recognizing the phone. It's worth a shot.

Actually I think it might be build number that you need to click on multiple times.
You can buy a jig from eBay , just search eBay for "galaxy s5 jig" I've done this on all my galaxy phones, but haven't tried it on my s5 since it's still behaving well. While phone is off, with the battery inserted, connect the jig for a couple of seconds and it will immediately boot the phone straight in the download mode.
Thats not real samsung s5, its a clone, like hdc s5 legend
If it is a clone then nothing on this site will do you any good.
Its easy to restore imei for mtk phone, no big deal
I've never done, all I know is that most programs and files here won't do any good on a clone.
Some answers to the help. Thanks!
Ok.
Metalfan78, i have tried that, but thanks for the advice.
Commodore 64, i looked into that, saw one for 5 bucks. I will probably order one to see if it works.
DaanIt, how can you tell a real Galaxy s5 vs a clone? i would love to know and would love to know whether this is real or not.

LOL. i can edit the model number! I'm going to assume its not but i must ask anyway.. can anyone else edit that or just me? Also. How can i view the actual hardware specs in this phone to really see if its fake? it wouldnt have the exact processor and stuff in it would it?
Get an app called 'CPU Z'........
For my official 900F, it returns this information.......
If you can't get on to playstore, here's a link to the app from my Dropbox (don't worry, the app is free, so it's NOT warez)......
https://www.dropbox.com/s/jumgfr0n41v70lr/CPU_Z.zip?dl=0
Download it to pc/laptop, extract it (it's in a zip) copy it to a micro sd card, put the card in the phone and 'sideload' the app.....
i really think its fake. the main part of the phone i look at to tell its fake from the outside is the flash, if you see your flash it is a weird square orange flash. on other real Samsung phones the flash is a clear and little bit of orange inside. But its a very nice clone, if you want a note4 clone i can show you wear to buy one.
Install universal mtk drivers, use 'Mobileuncle mtk tools' from market for imei repair, use 'mtkdroidtools' for phone root, backup, etc.
Its easy to spot fake, clone led flash is different. Just compare it

U cannot edit the model number and simply use CPU-Z to find the truth
I have tried for over 4 hours straight now. No matter what i do, i just get an error each time. My mobile data doesn't work, may be my fault because i rooted it them uninstalled a bunch of stuff that i thought was bloatware, but i may have gotten something else in the process. Phone still works perfectly fine, just mobile data does not. I know i have data too. Anyway, I flashed it before because i screwed up and put the wrong Android version on it, then got it to the one i wanted. But now i just want to get my mobile data working. I have already tried multiple fixes for it and come to no success. Anything helps. Thanks. USB debugging is enabled too.
Your error would be helpful.
Use the original cable and back USB ports. Use various Windows versions and Odin versions
You confirmed the model number in download mode matches Roms you are flashing?
Alright. I got it to work. This whole time it was a bad cable. Now i have another problem. Everything works fine on it, except the mobile data. It just doesn't work. Any ideas?

I checked the APN settings online. They were all correct. Today I put my friends sim card In my phone, at&t card, and everything worked. But he put my card in his phone and no data. But if I put my card in to my old Huawei phone, everything works fine. Could it just be that the sim card is set to work on my old Huawei only?
Sim cards aren't usually tied to a particular phone. Is the sim a prepaid AT&T Go card?
Have you tried contacting your carrier about that? Do they know you switched phones? I had a problem similar to that when I switched from my LG G2 to the Galaxy S4 with straight talk, I had to call my carrier, this was before I rooted either phone. Speaking of, was your mobile data working before you rooted?
Is your modem/bootloader matching the ROM you flashed?

Mobile data never worked on this phone with my sim card, but did with my friends At&t go sim card. I called up tracfone, and they told me that it was a straight talk phone originally (i bought the phone used), and that it can't be switched over. Yet on the back of the phone under the battery it says "Tracfone Wireless". I thought it would work.

- Run in terminal:

getprop ro.boot.bootloader # This is you bootloader version

Flash the ROM mentioned here.
That's currently what I'm using on my SM-S975L and works great with our phones. Alternatively a stock ROM for the SM-S975L can be found here.
Can you provide a link to the ROM you are currently using?

For future reference, the model number in About phone can be easily changed, just by editing the device build.prop. Entering download mode and reading off the model number displayed on screen is definitive. Unlike About phone or the label beneath the battery, the number in download mode can't be changed.

I looked and, yes i'm picky, i want to stay in 4.4 kitkat because of the features the S4 has with it and the way it looks. (OCD may have something to do with that. Ha.) looked at the stock ROM link you gave me and that's 4.3. I will try that. I'm going to try and see if i can get this figured out with tracfone before i go and flash the rom though. As far as linking you what rom i have on here, i think this is it. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358548937 Also, the stock ROM link you gave me lead to 502 bad gateway. after i clicked download from the site.
First of all, thank you in advance for helping me!
I got an GT-I9505 for free because the guy didn't want it anymore, but there's a problem.
It's flashed with the rom of another S4 model, SGH-I337. Because of that some things don't work really well (WiFi don't work at all)
Trying to flash the correct rom with Odin, or with the rom on SD in the recovery menu, both fails.
Someone can give me some directions on this? I would really appreciate!
Thank you all!
Use the original cable and the rear USB ports.
Try every Windows and Odin version possible.
Flashing a stock ROM through the original recovery is not possible.
Boot into download mode and confirm that the model # is gt-i9505. What is the Odin error?
It shows "START [224, 1440]" in download mode, and Odin says "Can't open the specified file".
Yes, I have admin rights, the file is on a folder located on C:\stuff\, yes I have redownloaded the file, and shows the same error.

No point doing that, as I said it's flashed with the rom of a different model. In download mode shows SGH-I337 but thats incorrect. Behind the battery says i9505 and i'm pretty sure that it's correct, since it's the model sold on my country.
Thank you all!

You're wrong.
That sticker can be easily replaced. You can put the sticker of an S7 on it, but that doesn't make an S7, does it?
Anyway, download mode is not affected in any way, shape or form, by a software change.
If download mode says it's that model, then it sure as hell is.

Yes, it is possible.
As I said, no matter how many times you change the software, the model in download mode will not change.
Download mode is hard-coded. I'm pretty sure it's not possible (or very very hard) to change the info displayed there. So if it says it's a I337, then it is a I337.
Info in "About phone" or stickers can be easily changed or replaced with something else.
Looks like the phone is an i337 as I suspected which means you will need to flash the i337 rom via Odin or flash fire, depending on whether the bootloader is locked.

He already has the correct ROM. He says it's a GT-I9505 flashed with a I337 ROM.
But download mode says it's a I337. So it means he has the correct ROM.
If the phone is flashed with the correct at&t rom, the wifi should work. The wifi may need a complete reflash to work or the wifi chip defective.
Thank you all for your time. How can I mark this as resolved?
I don't think you can. But you can change the title and add "Solved" to it or something.

See if you can enter download mode
Just plug in the usb and press and hold volume up when the reboots (assuming procedure is the same as v30).
Also download appropriate kdz for your exact variant in the mean time : https://lg-firmwares.com/

If you really have LG V35, do not try to flash any V30 firmware.
Requesting this be moved to V35 forum. (I see it's now been done.)

Why does it have to be the exact variant? I've read that the phone will take any file for the LG V35.
The version for my phone doesn't have one for the USA; and can you explain to me why the files are different sizes? Can they be trusted?

In case that's what he wanted. He's removing root, so maybe he's going to sell the phone or something?
Obviously he won't find AT&T firmware there.

If you can find the kdz for your exact variant then it's good if you can't find then obviously you need to see if other one works.
What my point was on LGv20 it would result in a brick if you flashed h918 firmware on h990
For v30 if you flash h930 kdz on h932 or us998 it won't end well.
But you could flash firmware of a particular variant to another without issues.

Also this question was originally asked in the V30 forum, not the V35 forum. I had a mod move it here, after it was answered by you and me.
As you mentioned, there's one V30 (T-Mobile H932) firmware which will hard brick any other (and vice versa), and there's some V30 firmware you can cross flash to others -- but you lose all telephone capability unless you omit certain partitions.
So you gave the safest answer, considering it was asking the wrong place.
