Hello experts, :highfive:
I want to hard reset and root my Galaxy Note 3.
It is the N9005 model.
What is the best and safest way to do it and what you need to consider?
It is better to hard reset first and then root or otherwise.
Thank you very much for the tips.
Waiting for your replies :good:
Factory reset, then root. Makes no difference which order you do it. You don't even need to reset to root.

You should first check with *#1234# your current versions for firmware, and if all are before MJ3 you can root with Universal Root De La Vega and you will still have knox 0x0 - read for more details the specific threads on that.
thank you so much for the answers, :good:
It's the first time I go to reset my phone, so I wonder to know the risks and what I have to take into account and whether it's worth rooting the device.
I have installed many useless apps and the hard reset I'll do it anyway, so, will the root serve me?
thank you!!!

It depends on what you want to do when you root, do you need to root? if not, then don't. If so. Read more.
It's better to think about what do you need root to do before cracking your phone. For an average user, root is not necessary.
If you decide to do it, check CF-Autoroot in the note 3 original development forum. It's easier but make sure you understand everything in that post first.

Good evening everyone,
I recently bought SGS4 I9500 and I don't really want to root it because it's too early. I would like to know if there is a way to use android applications (like Droidsheep that need root permissions to run), on my S4 without rooting it. any suggestions?
I am not responding at your question but droidsheep doesent look to work anymore.. At least on my rooted s2. Think internet became too secure for that old program

Dude, droidsheep is not the only root access needed software. there are a lot of apps that require root access and I would like to see them installed on my S4 running properly.

You've answered the question yourself - root access needed software...
If it needs root access then why would you think you can run it without root access?
Exactly. It's a dopey question asked due to not knowing even the 'bare basics'.

First of all quys, this question was not intend to be answered by people like you.
And please do not call me "dopey" and tell me that I don't know the "bare basics".
If you think you know something more than me, then answer the question if you can, otherwise let someone else do.
As you can search in the web about what I am asking for, there is busybox no-root which was created a few months ago.
But it's is not completely useful for what I want to do therefore I just asked if there is a way of achieving what I want, without rooting my phone.
Thanks.
Hi guys! I have my s4 since last year June and I think the time is come for him to get some new features. To do so, I thought to get root permissions and unlock the bootloader in order to install a new custom rom. But I'm overly scared by Knox counter.
I didn't get well the story: if I get permission, I'll trip the counter to 1, invalidating the warranty, right? Is there any way to unlock bootloader and get permissions without tripping knox? Is it worth doing? I'm trying to do a sort of "revamp" of my phone, and maybe getting it faster and more stable than stock roms!
Thank you in advance!
P.S: My S4 is h3g (italy) brandizied. I don't know if it's important! Sorry for my english!

Hi!
Which model do you have?
For i9505 take a look at this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2852310
And when your current firmware is NG8 or higher you can root with this method

No.
You will have to try some out yourself. XDA prohibits the discussion of "best rom" or "rom recommendations" for several reasons.
It's rude to developers.
They usually devolve into an argument between ROM 1 Fanboys and ROM 2 Fanboys.
And most importantly, only you can make a determination about what roms are best for the way you use your phone. We wouldn't dare deprive you of the opportunity learn about flashing roms and seeing the differences between them. It's a growth experience! You'll learn more in a week than we could teach you by talking about ROMs in a year.
We recommend you read through the development threads and read up on what ROMs are available. Picka f ew and try each one out for a couple days. See what features you want and which ones you hate. Then narrow down what ROM you like based on that.

Oh, ok, didn't know that! Last question: I've read in some italian forums that towelroot doesn't work anymore without tripping knox counter because samsung fixed it. Is it true or with some of the latest upgrades Towelroot began to work again?

Not sure if trolling or just dumb.
Giving root access = rooting. There is no other word for it.
Without root u can't access root its not possible
I mean not permanently root.
Can I ask why? You can always unroot

@SheepGolden: Knox status is controlled by an E-fuse on the CPU die itself. This fuse is a hardware fuse, not software. The only way to reset the fuse is to replace the chip, as it's a one-shot fuse. The E-fuse is why we tell anyone who asks about resetting the Knox status that it cannot be done.
Your words give people false hope. The reality is that it's not happening. Not by us, and definitely not by Samsung. Unless of course you have some insider knowledge that we don't know about?

Because people smarter than you have researched this. But don't take my word for it. See this post for full details about Knox. And then there's this information from the guy who has the skills to provide you the tools to root your phone in the first place.
Any further questions?

You may know what Knox is, but it's clear you do not know how Knox functions. The links given explain the latter, and I strongly suggest you take the time to read them. Or not. I don't care either way, but keep this in mind. Einstein said (paraphrased), "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool then to speak and remove all doubt." Guess which side of that equation you're on?

@SheepGolden: Fortunately, this isn't your site, so you don't get to make those kinds of requests. However, this thread has outlived its usefulness, so I'll leave it with the following statement.
In the future, you would do well to actually do some research before speaking out. Reason being that in telling the OP that it may take years to reverse something that has been explicitly stated by Samsung as being irreversible you lost any credibility you may have had. You lose even more credibility when arguing with someone who can back up his statements with facts. Not to mention that someone having helped far more people on this forum than you will ever know.

After almost 2000 posts to your credit and being on XDA since 2012, everyone is probably confused as to why you're asking and why you haven't tried already.
If K1 is not a locked bootloader, like we've now seen with the COJ5, you should be able too.
I've never seen anyone post not being able to flash back to an older modem. Unless it was user error like picking the wrong one, for a different phone.

I'm just too afraid of permanently damaging my phone.
Numbers do not matter, I still learn. Sure, I know more than someone new to the community but that doesnt change the fact that I dont know everything.
The person right above you has problems with his phone now. I'm just trying to prevent that from happening to me too.
Anyway, if I flash the COJ5 bootloader, there is no going back?
