Change 4.4 to 4.3 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
i have a question, Can i change my phone to a previous version?
Now, Im in 4.4, and i want 4.3 JWR66 on my nexus. Could be a problem if i flash a previous version?
Thanks.

As far as I'm aware it should be fine, I flashed KitKat and then decided to flash back to 4.3 which worked fine, now I'm back on 4.4 with no issues. Just make sure you backup incase it doesn't work for you!

if you are rooted and have a recovery you can flash a 4.3 ROM...Also make sure you have .84 Radio..If you have have .97 Radio, flash .84 radio after flashing the ROM and the GAPPS..Here is the link for .84 Radio...
P.S. Post a question in the Q&A section

Thanks!

Before rooting i did the ota to 4.2.2. In all the threads it says if you haven't done the ota you need to flash 4.2.2 bootloader and radio before flashing 4.2.2 roms. So if i wanted to flash a 4.2.1 rom coming from a 4.2.2 rom, do i have to flash the 4.2.1 bootloader and radio or will it work with the 4.2.2 radio and bootloader? Hope this clarifies. And thank you

OK, that's clear. Sorry for my English
First, I used to update to 4.2.2 without updating my bootloader, I just updated my baseband because the Microphone and the Earpiece didn't wok without it (at least, that was my situation).
Second. I dont understand why you rollback to 4.2.1, but if you want to, just keep the 4.2.2 bootloader and baseband. That's OK. Hopefully.

I just want to try out some ROMs that haven't been updated to 4.2.2 yet, like raspbean jelly or baked black bean, but i can't find info on if you have to flash the baseband and boot loader with it

Should I update and root Android 4.3

I haven't update 4.3 yet but I want to try out the latest PA rom. Should I just wait until it becomes stable or just factory restore and head into 4.3 and root. Also does nandroid works on Android 4.3 or i am going to lose everything?

I think this is more of your dilemma than an actual issue.
As long as your custom recovery works, nandroid should work.
Should you wait till it becomes stable? Up to you.
Just factory restore and head into 4.3? Up to you.
I dont see why you would wanna OTA to 4.3 and then flash PA. Why not just flash PA straight?
I use Multi Boot. PA is a solid ROM. CM10.2 is too. I boot between them. If I stayed with stock not possible to do this.

Nope. If you flash the latest PA, you would be wiping your ota-ed 4.3. So there would be no difference at all. You do however, need to flash your new radio for 4.3

[Q] Update to 4.3 process.

Quick question. I have finally decided to upgrade from 4.2.2 (PA 3.60) to a different 4.3 ROM (PSX).
I have been searching for the correct steps to do so. My question is, do I need to update bootloader and radio first? And if I do, can I restore a 4.2.2 backup if needed with the newer bootloader?
Sorry if this has already been addressed ...I'm sure I have missed it in the forums somewhere.

You don't have to update the bootloader or radio but you should. If you want to go back to 4.2.2 you can
BLACKED OUT LTE N4
OK cool. Thanks.

Help upgrading nexus 4 from 4.2.2 to 4.3

Hi, I own a rooted nexus 4 currently running 4.2.2, I just tried to install CM 10.2 and it went to a boot loop, so I restored a backup and its stock again (with cwm recovery)...
What should I do? What can I be doing wrong?
Sergio, computer no work what wrong?
Flash the new 4.3 bootloader and radio using cwm. Then do a full wipe and flash your 4.3 ROM of choice.
Downloads: bootloader and radio.

Upgrading to 4.4 kit Kat

Hey guys quick question my n4 is rooted and running cm10.1.3. I never bothered to upgrade to 4.3, so my radio, kernel and bootloader are stock 4.2.2. Is it better to get the ota update and be up on things or flash stock kernel, boot loader and radio for 4.4 when ever there available? Or maybe factory image?

Just flash the stock images for kit Kat when they are available, right now back up all your data

my friend as this will pop up all over the forum the best thing to do is just wait for a rooted version to show up. I did not upgrade my bootloader and I have not had any issues with 4.3 which mind you is a great running OS you should try it.
I dont understand having root then unrooting to flash stock which you obviously dont like since you run cm and then wait to root it all over again to back an upgraded rooted version of cm...

Question on the way for the custom recovery+kernel guys on 4.3 what is the best to upgrade besides wiping your entire phone and flashing the stock images entirely?.
I think i know 2 ways just not sure they are recommended, 1st is flashing stock kernel + returning recovery to stock (should get OTA)
2nd is flashing only the system.img and the bootloader me thinks.
Feel free to verify this.

You make a lot of sense ,its more of curiosity and so I won't brick my nexus. So I can get away with not upgrading my bootloader for 4.4?
What about kernel, do I need to update that for 4.4 or is that judgement call?

you are asking questions that trial and error are going to figure out for us. Kernels of course if you are on a 4.4 rom you would use a 4.4 kernel. Upgrading your bootloader may or may not be needed but we wont know until kitkat starts popping. everyone said you needed to upgrade bootloader for 4.3 but I have never had any issue at all.... Just wait it out and read read read

Not to sure but as long as you're on stock ROM and stock kernel you should be fine although I don't know if custom recovery keeps you from getting update.

Absolutely bro
You do have to be on stock recovery, stock bootloader for the update to go thru properly otherwise it'll fail.

If you are still on stock rom and you just have custom kernel+recovery, U could do the following for not using any current apps or files.
- Wait till your favorite Toolkit (e.g Wug) get updated for 4.4 and then download the official factory rom.
- Extract it and keep all separate zips, like radio, bootloader, system etc.
- Unroot and flash stock kernel
- Flash all previous zips, EXCEPT user.img which will delete everything
- Reroot and U r ready to flash again custom kernel
Maybe a noob question but my n4 is rooted. Will this cause any problems withe the update?

Hello,
My phone has already had the radio upgraded to latest so it can run 4.3. I am rooted, have TWRP 2.6.3.0, will I be ok to flash the PA 4.4 and gapps? I keep posts about folks losing their sdcard data and their custom recovery being removed (not sure how!).
Thanks.

I'm sure that radio doesn't affect your ability to flash certain ROMs so you shouldn't have a problem flashing 4.4. As far as losing SD data not sure how that's happening.
