Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to make my wifi only nexus 7 able to present a wifi signal. Sounds weird I know, but I need the signal I know connecting to it will do nothing.
thanks for the help!
You can try it with apps like Super Beam

What app are you using on the note to tether?

Just going into setting and turning it on then finding it on my nexus 7 then connecting.

Sure it's not a problem with the Note and not with the Nexus 7? If it's a problem with the Nexus 7 you'd notice it dropping on your home WiFi too.
Yeah true that didn't think of that. Don't know where to start on my note either.

My razr was doing this. I used tasker to make a task that enables tethering and disable wifi sleep policy which worked.
Couldn't find wifi sleep settings anywhere else in settings.

Try tethering with Bluetooth instead of through WiFi? Not a fix, but it's a simple workaround.
I stopped using my Xperia S as a WiFi hotspot and just tether with Bluetooth. It's quicker (for me), I'm not broadcasting an SSID, and I don't have to worry about Chrome's preloading sucking up all my data because it's set to WiFi Only.

How do I get internet via Bluetooth ?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
On my Xperia S it's Settings > Wireless & Networks > More... > Tethering & portable hotspot.
Pair the two devices, enable Bluetooth tethering under "Tethering & portable hotspot", then connect from the Nexus 7 to the Note. You'll know you've done it right if the network in the Notifications on the Nexus 7 says "Bluetooth Tethered".
Hi everyone,
Does anyone have heard about a fix for the N7 to be able to recognize adhoc networks ?
I can't even see the signal tethered from my android phone through barnacle.
Thanks in advance.

Just tried using barnacle after reading your post and it won't work from phone either. Haven't looked into this yet but I'm sure we just need to change the WPA supplement, possibly some custom Roms have this "fixed" but being this is the first time I've tried I haven't looked into it
when I get some free time I'll see what I can do and post back, otherwise hopefully someone else can chime in and let us know what's up

Greetings all.
I'm having problems getting my Q to jive with my Nexus 7. I have manually reset the Q and I can set it up using my Nexus 7 but once I connect the Q to my network the N7 can no longer connect.
I have no problem getting it to work with my Galaxy S III so I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong, but I haven't got clue as to what.
Any ideas?

Now I've even factory reset my nexus 7 and have installed the latest build, still can't connect.
Starting to think Google really dropped the ball on this one.

I just picked up a Q and it constantly disconnects from my router over WiFi. It turns out that my router is one of the "Routers with Known Issues" - https://support.google.com/nexus/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2665467&topic=2663797&ctx=topic
While not a solution for everyone, since connecting it via ethernet I haven't had any problems. I still need to try updating to the latest firmware on my router or may even try a 3rd party firmware to see if it makes a difference as I'd prefer WiFi.
So when I lock my Nexus 7, my wifi will drop after a minute or so, and in order for it to stay on I have to keep the screen unlocked and on. Does anyone know what I could do to fix this? Thanks.

Should have clarified, I have it set to stay on.
This is a well documented issue and has just happened on 4.2.1. I have the same issue and looking for a fix

I'm stock rom, rooted, cwm recovery, 4.2.1. My wi-fi is rock solid perfect. Some issues that have caused problems are the encryption method (wpa seems best), too long or special characters in the network password, outdated firmware on the router, reset of router needed, static ip seems to help some.
So, when I turn on the bluetooth and connect it to anything, like headset or stereos, speakers, there is some wifi drops every 10 seconds or less which is so annoying, cant watch a youtube video or browse easy and everything is ruined, so how to fix that? And is that only me? Im rooting my phone next week, cause that was a replacement and on my old nexus 4 never used bluetooth after 7 months , so dunno if i had that on my old nexus 4 or not.

I have the same issue, when you use Bluetooth it interferes the 2.4GHz radio waves created via WiFi chip, 5GHz works fine on WiFi with Bluetooth on.

Sorry im not good at these hardware stuff, but how can i change it? Is it in the router settings or inside the phone, thanks!

Unfortunately that is where the problem comes in, I am not sure if it is hardware or software which is causing the issue.
If you want to keep connection on WiFi with Bluetooth then for now you have to use a Wireless Router which supports 5GHz (to enable support on Nexus 4 go to settings, WiFi, advanced and then Wi-Fi frequency band which will show up a list, choose "Auto" for 5GHz and 2.4GHz).

It's not fixed when I receive a call in my car the n4 drops wifi. And that was the main reason for getting a wifi router in my car. I'm on 4.3 My galaxy Nexus does not have that problem. This needs to be fixed soon.
I dunno, its fixed since i flashed the 4.3 paranoid android rom, and google support sent an email saying that its fixed in android 4.3 and they said that cause i called them several times because of that issue, Ive never had this issue on my gnex, but I had the gnex when it was on 4.1.2, i heard that its a bug in 4.2.
