Wifi issues. - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So when I lock my Nexus 7, my wifi will drop after a minute or so, and in order for it to stay on I have to keep the screen unlocked and on. Does anyone know what I could do to fix this? Thanks.

Should have clarified, I have it set to stay on.

This is a well documented issue and has just happened on 4.2.1. I have the same issue and looking for a fix

I'm stock rom, rooted, cwm recovery, 4.2.1. My wi-fi is rock solid perfect. Some issues that have caused problems are the encryption method (wpa seems best), too long or special characters in the network password, outdated firmware on the router, reset of router needed, static ip seems to help some.

Have you tried this on different wifi networks? It sounds like your connection is probably not reliable.

go to the devices main setting, apps, all, download manager.. now delete the data. now go ahead and download something, this should fix it.
If you close download manager and browser in the multitask/ app switcher thing it fails

Switching to WEP may solve it
I'd really like to help but i don't have much time right now. But i can give you something to start.
1. I'm not sure but N7 may not have all wi-fi modes because of production costs. Wi-fi b/g is there but no a/n. Maybe it has something to do with this. Your router could be broadcasting on a or n or something. Actually i'm not good at this. I'm just trying to give you some leads.
2. Setting your wi-fi password to WPA could cause some problems on some devices, not only N7. I've seen it on laptops, phones, some unimportant wi-fi enabled devices. Maybe if you could set it to WEP, your download problems could be solved. I don't have a N7 but my download problems solved everytime i switched to WEP.

Anyone else having wifi connection issues with 4.2.1?

I only got my n7 a couple of weeks ago and almost immediately updated to 4.2. I didn't notice any issues. Immediately after the 4.2.1 update I keep getting random connection issues. I have to turn wifi off and on to resolve it.

I had the issue.. 32gb version in the US with the sep build. I actually had it prior to to 4.2.1. I ended up going into advanced properties and changing wifi to always on. Drains battery, but fewer need to turn wifi off and back on.

Yes. I have WiFi disconnects and random reboots since the new update .

WiFi Fixer
I use WiFi Fixer downloaded from Google Play. When the connection is dropped it automatically reconnects after a second or two.
Same on my 7 WiFi stops working at random times turn WiFi off and on fixes it, only started after 4.2.1 update

Thanks for confirming everyone. I have wifi always on and still have the issue. Hopefully it gets fixed...

My WiFi is always on and tethered to my evo3d at least 8 hours a day. Not a single problem under 4.2.1.

Just to clarify, i'm having this problem 100% stock. Not rooted what so ever. Roms/kernels could have this eliminated. But I wouldn't know.

No wifi internet / e-mail / notifications after 4.2.1
I am having a similar issue. Stock Nexus 7, never rooted, installed the 4.2.1 update when it was pushed. Since then I can connect to wifi connections but there is no internet access. While the icon in the upper right has small flashing arrow like data is being sent back and forth, the icon remains gray and no internet-requiring services on the tablet work. I've tried everything that I (and Google Play and Asus support) could think of with no luck.
The only thing they could come up with at the end was to restore the tablet to factory settings. Unfortunately I have application data that I need to back up that I can't access by accessing the internal storage using my laptop (I'm stock, remember?).
So I'm between a rock and a hard place here. Anyone have any suggestions? It was very frustrating when the Asus representative suggested I use the built-in backup and restore feature:
Me: "That requires internet access to work right?
Asus representative: "Oh....right..."
My Wi-Fi on both my Nexus 7's is very slow. They stay connected fine but I'm getting about 150kbps download speeds. I factory reset one of them to no prevail. Anyone have any insight on this or heard of others with this issue? All my other devices work fine on the same Wi-Fi connection and I tried turning everything else off so just the Nexi where connected to see if the speeds are faster, but they aren't. I'm stock on both devices and both are the 16gb version, one older than the other.

Known issue. I logged a bug with Google and there's actually several open bugs reporting wifi issues. So far, none of the bugs are being picked up by google officially.

I've tried this same thing, and as soon as I installed 4.2, WiFi went to sh**. Completely stock.
So turning wifi off then on seems to be the generally excepted quick fix?

Or use Static IPs. That solved it for me. I had to ask my company to provide a reservation for my MAC Address. It's like back in the 90s when Wifi started coming out using the BellLabs/Lucent chipset.

Bluetooth toggle doesn't work all the time?

The past few weeks I have been experiencing the bluetooth toggle both widget and settings not working unless I reset my phone. Any ideas why it's acting like this? I doubt it's a hardware issue. Any help would be great. Thanks!

i have / had the same issue, but lately has not happened. I am on the franco kernel r29. give that a try and see if you still cannot enabled bluetooth.
I had the same problem today. It was stuck on "off" until I rebooted my device.

I had this happen once. I am stock. Rebooted and it was fine.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I reboot when it happens also, but then it happens a few days after. I'm not sure why it does that. Maybe a bug?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I can't turn on my wifi and bluetooth neither. First I can turn them on after reboot, 2 days later, reboot doesn't work. Maybe it is a bug.
Okay well at least someone else is having the same issue as me, I hope it just a bug also.

do you have an NFC tasker installed? I think that might cause the problem...no sure tho, I'm having trouble with bluetooth not turning on too.
My 2 nexus is having the bluetooth issue, it will work when reboot or restart, but after a couple of day, you cannot switch the bluetooth on until you restart it. One nexus is rooted stock with bunch of app, The other is bone stock with very few app install.

[Q] my nexus 4 bluetooth ruins the wifi (drops)

So, when I turn on the bluetooth and connect it to anything, like headset or stereos, speakers, there is some wifi drops every 10 seconds or less which is so annoying, cant watch a youtube video or browse easy and everything is ruined, so how to fix that? And is that only me? Im rooting my phone next week, cause that was a replacement and on my old nexus 4 never used bluetooth after 7 months , so dunno if i had that on my old nexus 4 or not.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I have the same issue, when you use Bluetooth it interferes the 2.4GHz radio waves created via WiFi chip, 5GHz works fine on WiFi with Bluetooth on.

Sorry im not good at these hardware stuff, but how can i change it? Is it in the router settings or inside the phone, thanks!

Unfortunately that is where the problem comes in, I am not sure if it is hardware or software which is causing the issue.
If you want to keep connection on WiFi with Bluetooth then for now you have to use a Wireless Router which supports 5GHz (to enable support on Nexus 4 go to settings, WiFi, advanced and then Wi-Fi frequency band which will show up a list, choose "Auto" for 5GHz and 2.4GHz).

It's not fixed when I receive a call in my car the n4 drops wifi. And that was the main reason for getting a wifi router in my car. I'm on 4.3 My galaxy Nexus does not have that problem. This needs to be fixed soon.
I dunno, its fixed since i flashed the 4.3 paranoid android rom, and google support sent an email saying that its fixed in android 4.3 and they said that cause i called them several times because of that issue, Ive never had this issue on my gnex, but I had the gnex when it was on 4.1.2, i heard that its a bug in 4.2.

Wifi issues with 4.3

After upgrading to 4.3, I have lost my Wifi performance to my normal router. Now, while still able to scan available routers, I'm no longer able to connect.
Anyone know of a solution, short of an RMA?

Wat kind of router are you using and what frequency? 5Ghz or 2.4?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
One is a linksys, the other is unknown as it's at the doctors office. As for frequency, one of each.

Change wifi channel at router and try again.
With other wifi networks works fine?
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk 4
No. I have no connectivity. Wi-Fi performance has slowly diminished since I did the upgrade.

Setting a static IP has fixed it for me. Setting it on the phone that is. Happens far less now than when i didn't have a static IP.
How did you upgrade at 4.3?
Through official OTA?
if you could check it, reflash only radio.Img from factory Rom.

My issue is not that bad.. the only issue i have since the update is the wifi signal drops completely, and the router next to me on my desk. The signal comes and goes for a couple of minutes then goes back to normal

The upgrade was done via a full wipe (was rooted at the time) and flashed the image from Google. Phone has been stock since. After the upgrade, I noticed the Wi-Fi signal went from four bars in the living room to three. Before losing connectivity completely, then two. One to none happened pretty quick.
