Have you tried this on different wifi networks? It sounds like your connection is probably not reliable.

go to the devices main setting, apps, all, download manager.. now delete the data. now go ahead and download something, this should fix it.
If you close download manager and browser in the multitask/ app switcher thing it fails

Switching to WEP may solve it
I'd really like to help but i don't have much time right now. But i can give you something to start.
1. I'm not sure but N7 may not have all wi-fi modes because of production costs. Wi-fi b/g is there but no a/n. Maybe it has something to do with this. Your router could be broadcasting on a or n or something. Actually i'm not good at this. I'm just trying to give you some leads.
2. Setting your wi-fi password to WPA could cause some problems on some devices, not only N7. I've seen it on laptops, phones, some unimportant wi-fi enabled devices. Maybe if you could set it to WEP, your download problems could be solved. I don't have a N7 but my download problems solved everytime i switched to WEP.

Hi everyone,
Does anyone have heard about a fix for the N7 to be able to recognize adhoc networks ?
I can't even see the signal tethered from my android phone through barnacle.
Thanks in advance.

Just tried using barnacle after reading your post and it won't work from phone either. Haven't looked into this yet but I'm sure we just need to change the WPA supplement, possibly some custom Roms have this "fixed" but being this is the first time I've tried I haven't looked into it
when I get some free time I'll see what I can do and post back, otherwise hopefully someone else can chime in and let us know what's up

Hello all,
I bought my Nexus 7 in Hong Kong. Now I'm back in Mainland China and faced a big problem with the VPN L2TP connection on my N7. After the VPN tunnel is established my N7 reboots after an undefined time. I'm able to download and use it...but then the device freezes and reboots. Staying in China without VPN (PPTP is mostly slowly and blocked ) is a mess. Somebody has an idea or faced the same ?
On my Nexus phone I've no problems...

I have EXACTLY the same problem! I log in to my VPN on the Nexus 7, then - at any moment either immeidately after or sometimes 20-30 minutes after - the thing just reboots itself randomly. Does NOT happen when VPN is not connected.
Talk about annoying!
Ok... I'm back in China...so...VPN must have....I've tested several things...WPA2,WPA and WEP...it doesn't matter...device freezes and reboots...that's absolutely a bug in the N7... somebody knows how to send that to Google devs?

I just wanted to comment that I get the same exact reboot issue, although mine could be attributed to the ROM I'm using which is Bugless Beast.
I use L2TP connections too, but mine will reboot immediately after opening chrome, or other programs which use the Internet. Not sure what to do

Sure... possible if you root your device...I've solved it flashing my rooter... running there an OpenVPN client...still 4.2 got that bug...painfully enough for Google... other OEM's don't have such struggling behaviour... similar but
On my device, I connect to VPN at home and at work. I have never had the restart bug when I connect at work. It always happens when I'm at home. So this is a very specific bug for a certain kind of connection and not just VPN WiFi in general. Good luck everyone I hope we figure this out.
Which vpns do you use here in China?
I am having trouble setting up Witopia on my nexus 7. I have it on my computer and it doesn't work very well and I have it on my ipad but no luck on the nexus. Why are the android settings far less user friendly than apple's?
What vpns are you guys using? Are any of them free? I want to change the region on my nexus to download apps from the US.

Hi...they are User friendly...but there are with some VPN Providers telegram issues since Android 4. Some are able to handle it, some not. I´m using Astrill. It´s cheap, fast enough, great support and a lot of server locations. Sorry, i wasn´t able to get any VPN connection without reboot of my Nexus 7. My solution was to invest some money in a new router, which i flashed DDWRT and put from Astrill the OpenVPN solution on it.

Hi all,
I was Bord the last days...and...i've flashed my Android devices with custom roms....my Nexus 7 has no VPN issues using Paranoid Android Rom...now i'm pretty sure that anything in the stock Rom is a mess....

I have the exact same problem. Gonna have to flash a custom ROM. I am using 4.2.2 on a nexus 7
I only got my n7 a couple of weeks ago and almost immediately updated to 4.2. I didn't notice any issues. Immediately after the 4.2.1 update I keep getting random connection issues. I have to turn wifi off and on to resolve it.

I had the issue.. 32gb version in the US with the sep build. I actually had it prior to to 4.2.1. I ended up going into advanced properties and changing wifi to always on. Drains battery, but fewer need to turn wifi off and back on.

No wifi internet / e-mail / notifications after 4.2.1
I am having a similar issue. Stock Nexus 7, never rooted, installed the 4.2.1 update when it was pushed. Since then I can connect to wifi connections but there is no internet access. While the icon in the upper right has small flashing arrow like data is being sent back and forth, the icon remains gray and no internet-requiring services on the tablet work. I've tried everything that I (and Google Play and Asus support) could think of with no luck.
The only thing they could come up with at the end was to restore the tablet to factory settings. Unfortunately I have application data that I need to back up that I can't access by accessing the internal storage using my laptop (I'm stock, remember?).
So I'm between a rock and a hard place here. Anyone have any suggestions? It was very frustrating when the Asus representative suggested I use the built-in backup and restore feature:
Me: "That requires internet access to work right?
Asus representative: "Oh....right..."
My Wi-Fi on both my Nexus 7's is very slow. They stay connected fine but I'm getting about 150kbps download speeds. I factory reset one of them to no prevail. Anyone have any insight on this or heard of others with this issue? All my other devices work fine on the same Wi-Fi connection and I tried turning everything else off so just the Nexi where connected to see if the speeds are faster, but they aren't. I'm stock on both devices and both are the 16gb version, one older than the other.

Known issue. I logged a bug with Google and there's actually several open bugs reporting wifi issues. So far, none of the bugs are being picked up by google officially.

I've tried this same thing, and as soon as I installed 4.2, WiFi went to sh**. Completely stock.
So turning wifi off then on seems to be the generally excepted quick fix?

Or use Static IPs. That solved it for me. I had to ask my company to provide a reservation for my MAC Address. It's like back in the 90s when Wifi started coming out using the BellLabs/Lucent chipset.
So when I lock my Nexus 7, my wifi will drop after a minute or so, and in order for it to stay on I have to keep the screen unlocked and on. Does anyone know what I could do to fix this? Thanks.

I'm stock rom, rooted, cwm recovery, 4.2.1. My wi-fi is rock solid perfect. Some issues that have caused problems are the encryption method (wpa seems best), too long or special characters in the network password, outdated firmware on the router, reset of router needed, static ip seems to help some.
i just picked up my nexus 10
got home connected to my home wifi (works on my nexus 4, nexus 7, galaxy s3, htc one x+, htc g2, xbox, laptop)
nexus 10 connected to it but couldnt launch any webpages? or even sign me into gmail?
turned on my phone hotspot and my nexus 10 connected fine and loaded webpages with no issues?
unlocked and rooted my nexus 10 and flashed paranoid android seeing if maybe a 4.2.2 would fix this, but still no luck
my nexus 10 connects to the network but its like it doesnt have a connection?
anybody have any ideas or solutions for this?
i would appreciate the help!
Any ideas?

I had this issue a few days ago and another guy just made a thread on the same thing.
Mine worked for a week and cutout. Exchanged it and the new one hasn't had any issues yet.
The other guy exchanged his twice before getting one that worked. Both of ours connected to other networks than our own. Not sure why some Nexus 10's connect and others don't. And who knows of the ones we got from the exchange will continue to work.

i found somewhere online nexus 10 has trouble connecting to ARRIS routers
just found out thats what i have
some firmware issue with the nexus 10?
thing is it shows connected to my home networks but just shows gray bars showing no actual internet connection,(no blue bars) only a connection to the router itself
im trying to find a way to assing an a static ip now. thats the solutions they found
all other routers i can connect to perfectly
Arris is what I have as well, Through xfinity. A day after I changed my first one to a static IP address was when I started having issues. Did a complete factory reset of the router and tablet. Couldn't get anything to work. I don't understand how it worked for a week and just stopped. Then reverting to all the original settings on both devices didn't help.
Maybe someone with more networking knowledge can give us a good answer. I'm really having trouble understanding how a different nexus 10 will work having the same settings and firmware.

i read somewhere same issue with arris router http://www.nexus7nexus10.com/forum/nexus-10-discussions/3007-nexus-10-problem-5.html
The quick fix I found for this problem.
Download connectify me on your pc broadcast your network under another ssid.
And my tablet works perfectly fine connected thru that
I'm still going to swap my router though

No real solution. Don't think there is one I spent about an hour searching everywhere I could.
So far it looks like nexus doesn't like ARRIS routers (I have time warner, not sure about you guys)
But I'll be swapping out my ARRIS router for a motorola one this week and I'll report back here to let you know if it worked
That connectify me is working awesome though.

great find, sich its such a hot issue you should make a thread detailing how to fix it using connectify me and also potentially reporting it to google.
That may be interesting: http://ir.arrisi.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=87823&p=RssLanding&cat=news&id=1807670
Summary: Arris has bought Motorola Home and has associated with Google.
