I am a former defy user, and I seem to remember there may have been a small donation collection someone tried to setup in order to entice some deva to work on a bootloader solution?
I'm not sure if it actually was successful (I know there's a 2nd boot available now,) but would it worthwhile to try setting up something similar for those of us that missed out on unlocking or BLs while we still could?

This is for the HD, but if they unlock the HD the same exploit should apply to the M. The BL unlock in April was applicable to the M, HD, and Atrix equivalents. I wouldn't hold your breath, though.
Thanks, I guess I'll just have to washout for the official update.
Can't wait to flash my old defy for fun though!

I'm looking for a testers and feedback on the Universal DeBlur-DeBloat Script. The script is designed to remove Blur and bloat on most Android Motorola phones. All that's required is that you have root.
Since April 1st the script has run successfully on the following devices:
Admiral
Atrix
Droid Pro/XPRT
Electrify
Photon
RAZR CDMA
RAZR GSM
I will test it on my wife's phone on the 25th when she gets her upgrade, but I may be able to convince her to do it sooner if there is not much risk....if I make a backup in cwm is there any risk of bricking?
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda premium
The script doesn't touch boot, kernel or recovery so the worst you would need to restore the CWM backup.
That was my feeling, but it has been a very touchy device. I will try it as soon as possible and report. Would you like findings here or via PM? I know you are testing this on multiple devices/threads.

Post in the main thread if you could. The link is in the first post. Thanks!
Tested and working well on my wife's Droid 2. About as painless as possible... No issues and marked improvement right off the bat. Awesome work!

As long as the exploit has not been patched by HTC then it will work otherwise you need to dev-unlock and flash insecure boot.img then run HTC Quick Root.

The Incredible 4G is locked up tight. We can't get root via any exploit, and dev unlock was only available for a short time after release, then was removed. Nobody can get s-off, either. I bought mine thinking dev unlock still worked, then found out that it was revoked the very next day. Needless to say we need help rooting.
Thanks for the effort, though. If you have any ideas on the Incredible 4G, please share on the threads over there. We really need help.

I share your pain Captain. Stuck with the Inc4G myself with no s-off. Got it locked down tight, really missing my shift right about now
Doesn't work for the latest OTA of Evo Shift 4G. =/
There is a chance I might have done something wrong, but I have continuously tried different ways so I highly doubt it.
Good news for all of you R800x users. Sony Mobile has finally added MEID support for unlocking your phone through their website (this could apply to other phones that use MEID as well).
I just went through the instructions on the Sony's website for getting the unlock code and then followed Ridder's guide and the install ran without any trouble (I'm not entirely sure if his process will work with other roms, can someone confirm this?)
I'm now off Verizon's horrible rom and running CM9 .
Anyways I just wanted to let people know, enjoy
*If youre having trouble with flashtool, try doing it using using the methods discussed in the links I provided above (Sony Instructions and Ridder). Alsomake sure you have Sony's Fastboot drivers installed.
Awesome I guess, can anyone confirm this for Locked R800i models? Mine is a factory unlocked, I'm just curious if Sony decided to provide a free unlock for everyone since they abandoned us on Gingerbread.

Its worth a try. Follow the steps on the unlockbootloader link I gave above, it tells you how to check if you can unlock, and what else needs to be done.
Great news!

Yea It worked finally on CM 9!
Although my phones bootloader was unlocked over a year ago via the unlock code (thank you ashergrey) I have embedded a screenshot of what I see if I follow the prompts to unlock my phones BL, even though it is....
I just went ahead and listed my phones MEID # in the sony website and 3 seconds later had this in my email inbox.
See attachment.
As I am already unlocked it appears that Sony really is now unlocking VZ Xplays. My contract ends in 2 months and I am thinking of just getting an AT&T XP and unlocking that, can anyone with a AT&T XP see if it will work for them? That would be fantastic news if it will unlock AT&Ts as well.
Yay!

I cannot as my phone is factory unlocked, and even if I did relock my bootloader it isn't network locked so I could have always unlocked it,
My Att play still has a locked bootloader and apparently my MEID is 1 number too long. Eh, it was worth a try.

Do we have access to Clockworkmod? I found a couple of websites that say we do, but I'm skeptical. I've used Safestrap for my moto devices, and Clockworkmod for the first time with my N7 and love it. One Android site posted an article that the HDs had it. Here's another article.

I believe you can access TWRP and CWM, but its only for the developer edition.
Retail can get into Safestrap without a problem.

For that, the developers need to create an exploit to unlock retail version bootloaders, if not that cant be done.
I'm coming from the RAZR(xt912) and the droid 4 (xt894) I used safe strap 3.11 pretty simple I could flash whatever with out worry... Well both phones are now pretty much dead so I have to get a new one and I have chosen the M... So been doing a little reading on here.. I see how to root.. It seems as this has an unlockable boot loader I did not know that... I see that you have to unlock the BL and install a recovery then you can flash... Is this like safe strap can I flash ROMs and not worry about brick? Can I have multiple ROMs flashed and be able to alternate between them? I've only ever used the the RAZR and D4... Both with SS... I thank you kindly for your time...
Sent from my XT894 using xda app-developers app
I believe that there is an exploit to unlock the RAZR M's boot loader now. Allowing you to install a recovery without the need of safe strap. I never had to use safe strap as I had a dev edition which can be unlocked from the moto website.
As for ROM's, I am running Carbon ROM coming from PacMan ROM, and I've never had a brick.

right - unlocking the bootloader (which takes all of 15 seconds, but be sure to read up on it though) allows XT907 users to install a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP). within these custom recoveries, you can make a nandroid of whichever ROM you want, and switch back and forth between them.
the key benefit of TWRP/CWM over SS is that you don't have to create a ROM slot, thus saving you tons of space.

Thank you kindly... I have read up on and understand the process of unlocking and installing the recovery... When you flash a ROM with this method do you still have the stock ROM on the device?

No, the stock ROM will be overwritten.
However, overwriting the section of the phone with Fastboot is nigh impossible, and as long as you can get back into that, you can restore to stock through Matt's 1.20 tool or RSD. I know, I've had to do it
There is also a file of 4.1.2 Stock that you can flash in the Development forum. Going back and forth from backups takes no time at all and I do it all the time. To jump from one to the other takes me maybe 10 minutes. I just keep a backup of any ROMs I want to play with.
Thanks guys.... I haven't saw any bricks posted has it happened to anyone yet...

Backup Stock ROM
I strongly recommend making a backup of your stock Rom before you make any changes. This will allow you to easily flip back to stock if needed.

Because Moo won't honor the warranty any more after that point. Lame, but will keep some people from doing it.

Technically, rooting it and modifying it will void the warranty. If you want to modify, then the warranty should be last thing on your mind. It's like modding a car. You know it's going to void the warranty, but you do it anyway. Well. I do it anyway.

I think the warranty void issue only applies to software related stuff. if there is something wrong with the hardware, then they'll still honor that.
