I have installed the StockMod kernel version 3.0, however, the kernel version in the about phone section still shows the default 3.4.0 version. TWRP says that the installation was successful. Now how do I know if the kernel was installed or not?
Thank You

hey all,
fairly new to android, but i've rooted and installed a couple of roms and kernals for fun.
now i've forgotten what im actually running. lol yes, i am that dumb.
here's what've installed:
1. frozen rom 1.1 - stock twilightzone 1.1 kernel
2. frozen rom 1.1 - with vision kernel
3. frozen rom 1.1 - with genocides kernel
4. frozen rom 1.1.1 - with genocides kernel
5. frozen rom 1.1.1 - stock kernel twilightzone 1.1.1RC2 - hajime-taisho
right now, in "About Phone"
firmware version is "2.2.1" so i know im on froyo
baseband ends in "EC05" so i've odin'd the right modem(i think i read a post that said baseband = modem version)
kernel version is "2.6.32.9" dunno which kernal im running.
build number says "twilightzone 1.1.1RC2 - hajime-taisho"
What it says in build is the kernel your runing. So twilightzone 1.1.1rc2 is your current kernel

oh i thought build number is the rom im running and kernel version was kernel version. what if i put genocide's kernel on? i'd be running ACS frozenrom 1.1.1 with genocide's kernal, what would 'kernel version' and 'build number' say?

Could also use setCPU to check it
Yes use set cpu. Click info it'll tell you. I flashed genocide kernel build number just says syndicate frozen.

ahh i completely forgot about setcpu.
in my setcpu it says
build : twilight zonev1.1.1RC2 - hajime-taisho
kernal : linux version 2.6.32.9
so right now im running ACS frozen rom 1.1.1 with the 1.1.1 stock kernel?
Yes I flashed genocide and in set cpu it said viper . So your on the kernel that comes with srf 1.1.1
oh sweet. ty. the lingo is just a lil new to me
i just flashed genocide's kernel, now my build number says "SyndicateROM Frozen"!
thanks for everyone's help
the kernel will almost always stay the same in about phone, all custom kernels are based on the same linux kernel... and genocide doesnt change the build version, so you now get to see what your rom changes the build version to...
I was wondering about the overclocking kernal for cm7. just how do i put it in. Do I have to do that when I first install or can I add it later. also does it really help. I mean is the difference really noticeable or not at all. I am still deciding if I should do it or not.
Kernels are flashed through ClockworkMod and can be flash anytime after you flash a rom. If you use the search bar you can easily find what particular kernel works for your setup.
OK, I think I found the right one but I was also wondering if I could install it when I first installed cm7. When I installed it I saw that it was searching for the kernel and for gapps but didn't find the n and skipped it. Could I install it then

CM7 has the ability to be overclocked as it sets.
settings > CM settings > performance > CPU settings.
just be extremely careful when Overclocking devices. it can takes it's toll in the long run.
and the g/apps are not kernel dependent they are ROM dependent.
OK but what do you mean by gapps are not kernal dependant

On *UNIX based devices. They have a section of the firmware called the "kernel". The kernel accepts the coding, binary and scripts from the RAM/ROM and tells the hardware how to act, what to do, and when to do it.
The g/apps have nothing to do with the kernel.
The g/apps are Google's property and cannot be included in AOSP based ROMs. Those ROMs are developed from Google's code. And developers do not have the ability to add those at will. So we must flash them after/prior (depending on he ROM) to get the Google Apps.
YES! DO IT!
for me its like day and night, it so much smoother with dals OC kernel. and yes you can flash the OC kernel any time. you can flash cm7 rc1 then OC kernel in the same boot. or you can first install cm7 to check it out for a while and then later flash the new kernel. if you planning to flash dal's 6/18 kernel, make sure to get his app NC Tweaks.
NC Tweaks here:

Dal's Kernel here:

thanks. What I want to know is how to flash it. do I do it the same way as gapps( have wifi and reboot in recovery mode) or is there a different way?

You place the over clock zip file in the root of your sd card and flash it through cwm like you would a rom or gapps. So for example you would flash cm7 then gapps then the overclock kernel.
Not to Jack this thread, but I want to update from cm7 old kernel to New nightly build. Does the new kernel flash with the nightly?

When you move from stable cm7 to cm7 nightly the new kernel is included. However the included kernel is overclockable only to 975mhz. If you want a higher clock speed you'll have to use dals 6182011 kernel, up to 1200mhz.

it's actually CWM.
ClockWork Manager
basically boot into recovery then flash.
OK. but this may be a stupid question but will the cm7 kernal work with the stable version7.0.3 because that is what I have.

I'm not following you cannot use just a Cyanogen(mod) kernel. They are built into their ROMs.

sorry, but no. dal's 6/18 OC kernel will not work with 7.0.3....

Ok thanks anyway. do you know when the kernal will work with a stable version

The latest nightly should be considered stable. It is in release candidate stable for the next stable build. The next stable build should be released in the next couple of days.

There is a Clockwork ROM Manager and a ClockworkMod Recovery image.
Together they are known as "CWM" Since one is a recovery and the other is a ROM manager.

Well, first make sure the kernel is built for your Android version.
Pretty much any kernel is compatible with any ROM. That's the magic of the Nexus series.

Hi,
Dorimanx has defined profiles for different usage. I would guess that extreme battery profile is the one you are looking for. ( is to be set in the profile tab in stweaks app)
@dorimanx , sorry for ask this, but, wich stock rom did you flash? D? Or B? I can't remember
30B he did..

Kernel compile
Hi,
As I'm curious, I'm trying to compile dorimanx kernel jus to see how all this is working.
So I've pulled three repo (crosstool-ng-by-dorimanx, DORIMANX_LG_STOCK_LP_KERNEL, lp_ramdisk_dorimanx )
when I run ./default_build.sh I have this error:
android-toolchain/bin/arm-eabi-ar: error while loading shared libraries: libfl.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
both libfl-dev i386 and x86_64 are installed on my 14.04 Ubuntu system.
If any of you know what is the problem, please let me know ?

Thank you for excellent kernel. I was so angry because of stock.
What exactly is 'UltraSound high performance audio hardware'? Another tweaks to audio drivers? I must say that sound quality on kitkat dorimanx seems to be better than other kernels.
