Copy speeds Fast on AOSPA, Slow on Stock? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know what causes slow speeds when sending files to the phone?
I flashed back to stock because I never really gave stock a chance, when I got the phone I right away flashes AOSPA.
Now that I am on stock, I am transfering my DCIM folder from my computer (running Ubuntu) to my phone, I am lucky to get 2 mbps transfer rate.
When I was running AOSPA, I was getting at least 30 mbps if not more.
Is there any way to increase the speeds up a bit? I am using the USB 3.0 port on my laptop because that's where the real speeds are at for me
Thanks for all your help!

tethering: is this possible?

some of you know may know me, and i am letting you guys know now, i am deffinitely not a noob when it comes to this stuff.
anyways, im staying at a hotel in vegas, and i decided to tether my laptop instead of paying for wifi. its working really nice, but my tethering app says im geting 20+ mbs of download speed, and 2+mb of upload speed
im running JACS hero 1.8b4, overclocker at 527mb, and have a swap file at 128mb with 60 swappiness
now is it possible between the overclock and swap, that my tethering really is running that high? or is the app messed up.
Nope... don't think its possible to get that high speeds because as far as I know, 3G doesn't even support those speeds (in reality anyways). Overclocking and Swap should not affect internet speeds at all as they are two very different things (an old P3 500mhz can still have 20Mbits/2Mbits connection despite being very slow). The speed of your internet is determined by your provider not they phone. Don't know how you got those speeds, but make sure you're not accidentally paying for them, otherwise, enjoy your lightning speeds!
just go download a file from a web browser and see the download speed.
I'm so tired off hearing about numbers from stupid apps or even http based speedtests.
If your using the wifi tether for root user app the two numbers on the bottom are not your current speed but the amount of data you have downloaded and uploaded during your session. Otherwise make sure your wifi is not hooking onto something.

Nexus one maximum transfer speed (using all methods)

hi, so ive been experimenting with transfer speeds to the SD-CARD with my nexus one.
so far i managed :
2mb/sec using the stock USB cable, with eclair, same with froyo stock kernel.
via WiFi tether and connecting a laptop to it, transfering files via FTP server on the android device
1.5-2mb/sec on froyo tethering
using the wifi tether app on eclair, around 600kb/s (fail? or maybe some cyanogen issues)
i recently upgraded to a CLASS6 transcend 16gb sdcard
yet the results are the same.
i tried a few SD-CARD testing apps, all results were around 2mb/s
is this some sort of hardware/software limitation?
did anyone get passed 2mb/s?
in theory my card should reach 6mb/sec write speeds.
so im hoping we can share our experiances.. and maybe come to some conclusion on whats going on, and finally put these issues to rest.
So you're trying to do what? You're on cellular, wifi, tethered, SD card speeds.....
I don't get the point.
If you're wanting to benchmark your SD card, maybe this program? I haven't tried it yet, just finally thought about searching. http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/performance.test/
You say "mb" which isn't correct for anything (unless you really mean "millabit"). Do you mean megaBIT (Mb) or megaBYTE (MB) / sec ?
I just ran several tests from this Vista PC using ADB Push to the SD card (a 16GB Class 6), and I see 9-13 megabit/second or 1.1 - 1.3 megabyte/second rates, at file sizes from 10 to 25 MB.
This is a Vista work PC, running around 40 applications, Symantec AV and Firewall and all manner of other crap. If I think about it, I'll pound out a test from a real computer later.
lol Why are you people giving him such a hard time ?
He wants to figure out the fastest transfer speeds. Who gives a crap about Mb Mb MB or benchmarking his SD.
N1 transfer speeds are slow regardless of the SD card. Im not sure why.
I would like to know if file transfers over USB , or Wifi result in faster transfers.
I think the OP is wanting to do the same thing.
Using the Websharing or FTP via Efile sometimes gave me better results than USB.
lol yea be gentle guys. But yea I remember reading that it's always gonna be slower using USB and Phone, it's better to take your card out and use a reader. It's usually at least 2 times faster when I take my SD out and use a reader

Those are just a few of many more, I am sure.
But none of the the existing Nexus One SD card threads are worded like " Nexus one maximum transfer speed (using all methods)", so lets just add this one to the pile please.

Thanks for the post, regardless of the patronizing of others... I've wondered the same thing as I've only gotten 2mb/sec going through the USB mount in android. I thought something was wrong with my computer so I've tried both pc and mac with the same speeds. I thought it was my memory card so I plugged it directly into a card reader and got 4x's the speed...
My main reason for wanting this to be fixed or acknowledged is for sync'ing music through programs like Salling Media Sync. It seems to me a wifi alternative would be faster even at 802.11g if it's related to the USB interface... let me know what you find I'm curious...
My wife's transfer speed was 3.6 on the stock SD card...
I have a class 6 and speed is under 2
I try to switch cards later and see if my class 6 goes faster on her N1
I too have never seen faster than 2mbish, even when i upgraded from stock to a class 2 8gb, and then to a class 6 16GB

[Q] slow wifi and 3g speeds.

i see a ton of youtube vids testing wifi and 3g. seems mine is the slowest around and cant figure out why. if im on wifi or 3g i get 1500kbps. doesnt matter which i use. i get my full 18 mbps speeds if i test with my laptop but again not with this phone.
any clue as to what the hell?
running stock rooted rom.
Same here
Yeah, I'm getting the exact same thing. First had an issue where my wifi would be in a permanent cycle of scanning, connecting, disconnected. I found a post saying it was an issue with the wap_supplicant file and that forcing it back to an older version (which was pulled from an old CM 6 alpha build) would resolve it. Tried that, and now my wifi isn't cycling anymore (so that's fixed) and can actually connect to my wifi, but now my data speed goes to almost nothing after trying to do anything with data other than running a speed test.
EX: reboot phone
run speed test 3 times, each time giving 11 Mbps down and 786 Kbps up (which is what it should be at on the low end but I'm happy with it).
go to the market, search for an app (don't download anything), go to the web, do a google search
now data is slow
run speedtest 3 times, each time get approx 900 Kbps down and 786 Kbps up
reboot and the same thing just keeps happening again and again.
Stock ROM, rooted but nothing else (other than the older wap_supplicant).
If someone can find a solution to this that'd be great!

Extremely Slow USB Transfer Speeds

Has anyone else been experiencing this? It takes an hour for my to transfer 1 GB of data. The same folder took only a few minutes to transfer between my Droid and X2.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong, or maybe it's a hardware problem?
16GB TF/Prime 1.4
Same problem here (Prime 1.4).
Does someone know how to have a faster usb connection (1h for 2Gb)
Thxxx
Stdu
I just did a quick transfer speed test by copying a 286MB file
Copying to the internal storage took 25 seconds (transfer rate : 11.4MBps)
Copying to a class 2 , 8GB microSD card took 45 seconds (transfer rate : 6.35MBps)
At those speeds a 1Gig should not take much longer than 1min 30sec to the internal memory and 2min 41sec to a Class 2 micro SD card (which is like the slowest speed you can expect from a micro SD card these days), unless you are moving thousands of tiny files, in which case it will take longer, but even then I doubt it should take 1hr.
P.S: 16GB TF running stock 3.1, connected to a Windows 7 32bit laptop
was your dock battery low when you tried to do this? could explain why it took a while.
Or don't use the dock at all? I never tried transferring anything while docked, didn't seem like it would've worked, but I guess it does work.
I still don't have my dock :-(
I tried to remove AVG and made a reset but still same problem.
I will try tomorrow to install the Prime 1.5 maybe this will help
Thx
Or you can transfer via wifi. Lightning fast =)

Perhaps, if the folder had video files, you selected the option to transcode the video.

I only get 750KBps when copying files over wi-fi using ES File explorer; and I don't think you can expect anything above 1.0~2MBps when transferring from one wireless device to another wireless device on a wireless G network. That is still more than 10x slower than USB. What method are you using ??
Are you copying only one single big file or many smaller files..the speed normally drops significantly when copying huge amount of smaller files..
either way, one hour for 1Gb seems absurdly long....have you tried the stock rom?

Cannot upload while tethering.

OK, title kinda says it all. I have good upload speeds on phone, especially on LTE, but when I am tethering i have zero upload speeds on PC.
I have tried running a couple speed tests, and they all fail on the upload test. I have tried uploading a file with Filezilla FTP, and it uploads less than 1KB, and locks up.
This is on LTE, H+, and H. Haven't tried Edge or GPRS.....
Any ideas? I don't know when it started, but it was working fine on LTE for a while, but noticed the other day that its doing this.
Oh, it's a Nexus4, running CM 10.1.0 RC5 and Franko kernel (though I just flashed Franco kernel today, and this has been happening for a few days).
