[Q] Snapdragon 600 or Exynos for Pure Android Experience - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am planning to upgrade my Nexus 5 to a Galaxy S4 for better camera performance. But I still want to enjoy the pure android experience that one gets on the Nexus devices. I know I can buy the Google Play edition but its not easily available in my country and is expensive.
So which Galaxy S4 chipset model do you suggest if I am to install the stock Android Jellybean or Kitkat on my S4 - Snapdragon 600 or Exynos 5 Octa?
Also what would be the respective Samsung model numbers to differentiate between the two versions?

Remind you the S4 don't have OIS, it may be a downgrade for you if you go to S4

To answer your question, because the first 2 replies have no intent to do so, the i9505 has the same hardware as the google edition one. international version: i9505, google edition: i9505g google play edition.

I read a while back that they are introducing some kind of theming/skinning engine to enable carriers to update quicker, hopefully this engine will enable themers to have a good old hack and play! How deep into ui this theming goes is anyone's guess
This is great to know S3 will get another year of updates especially knowing also the S3 will get all the features of the S4 that do not require new sensor/hardware
Given the money they are making with the Galaxy S series, it would seem a really smart move to invest a small fraction of those benefits in updating the Android OS version, to buy user's loyalty. I still don't trust the source completely, but the strategy makes sense to me.
Ofcourse this is not official so we shall wait and see

of course, this is not official, but I believe its highly likely we will get 5.0
samsung wouldnt kill s3 so fast, specially with a so capable hardware

It would be weird for the s2 not to get the update , cause it has the same soc except that s3 has 4 cores instead of 2...

Seriously...do you still expect s2 to get 5.0? You should be very happy if it gets 4.2.2...it really has similar cpu architecture and that means its still capable of running newest androids, samsung wont upgrade because of age, not capatibillity

Is this a response to the Apple claim that the S4 is being launched with last year's version of Android, that the Android market is fragmented over so many versions and capabilities?

Would be nice if the S3 gets android 5, but it's likely most S3's will have crapped out by then because of the faulty nand.

I have a theory that on each boot the emmc chip plays a little game of russian roulette with our partition structure and format - blowing out the brains of the unfortunate partition that happens to be chosen.
The result of which poor partition got terminated varies from a wipe and reflash upto a hardbrick and warranty repair...
I respect samsung for the S2 updates.
The S2 is a historical phone, it's gone through 3 major updates.
And they are doing the same for the S3.
They took down the whole market with just 3 phones, and now they are looking forward to adjust themselves on the throne with a 4th one.
One thing i can't wait for is the S4 features to play with on the S3.
It's almost confirmed that we will get them, as i see strings of those features in the MB3 leak.
All i can say, good job Samsung.
The only let down of Samsung is their care against the developer community, if they would be more like Sony. I'd never buy anything else than a galaxy device.

It's already confirmed. Samsung said we will get all the S4 features which aren't directly hardware dependent (features which require certain hardware to be there, like the infrared thingy)
Android isn't even completely optimized for Quad Core yet, The Galaxy S3 has at least another year of support left.
I love when a new Android version comes out. It makes our phone brand new for a while. I hope version 5.0 or whatever can fo that for me so I can keep this bad boy another year.

We got a 99% chance of getting KLP because there's no way samsung will update the GS4 only + The GS2 got 4.0/4.1/4.2 and the GS3 got 4.1/4.2(leaked) only so the GS3 will probably get 1 more update after 4.2 which is 5.0.

[Q] Is it possible to flash regular Galaxy 4 as the upcoming "Nexus" version

[Q] Is it possible to flash regular Galaxy 4 as the upcoming "Nexus" version
Hi guys,
I'm coming from Nexus 1 forums, time to move on
I hope this is the correct place to ask this...
I don't like Touchwiz or whatever Samsung adds to it's phones and Google announced on it's I/O that next month they will sell the same Galaxy S4 but with a clean vanilla interface and will treat it as a Nexus.
Now i want to know if it will be possible to buy a regular galaxy s4 now and next month after the version will be online to flash it instead of the touchwiz ROM?
i think the only difference is that the bootloader will be unlocked already but i'm not sure how it is on current galaxy 4 devices.
please provide me any info that you know about it cause my N1 is dying with 4.2.2 installed on it with too much apps :crying:

[Q]Official Android?

If Google has announced it will issue four Galaxy 4 with Android officially then it means that the I9500 and I9505 will also receive?
Or have a special version?

I don't think so because that's the whole point of this Google edition of the S4.
People are speculating we'll be able to use the ROM on the i9505 because it might be the same hardware but I think it's safe to say it's definitely not going to work on the i9500.
Please post threads in the right sections.
Isn't Google phone aka the nexus phone is made by LG and not Samsung? A bit pointless though as ROMs like CyanogenMod and AOKP are build directly off Google source code in other words change to those ROM and you get Google stuff directly. Off topic: Should post it next time in the Q&A threads.

[Q] Development AOSP for N9005

Hi guys, I have a question for you.
I need to change device and I'm undecided whether to purchase the Note 3 (Snapdragon) or the Nexus 5.
I am inclined to buy the Note 3, but I do not know if it will be supported by the community for a long time,
and especially if the "AOSP developers" will have problems with it.
Getting to the point: do you think that developers will have serious problems and bugs
(as there were in the previous galaxy powered by Exynos)
or the development of AOSP for Note 3 (Snapdragon) will be as smooth as silk, as for the Nexus devices?
development for snapdragon will be simpler compared to exynos version as what i've witness in Galaxy S4 scenario

Simpler, but much more difficult than nexus?
UP Someone else?
Pretty sure the Nexus line will always be the easiest.
I think if the lower screen size doesn't bother you, then the nexus 5 is probably the way to go. I was originally thinking about the note 3 or the nexus 5 but decided to go against the latter (I like to watch alot of youtube and the bigger screen size was perfect for a media consumer). But if your looking at it with development in mind, the nexus 5 just has more perks than the note 3

I like the screen size and the aosp.. something like a Note 3 Google edition ahah
that's the problem
Can KNOX be a problem for developers AOSP?
Does anyone know if the CyanogenMod is available for this device?
There are problems in the development of the latter?
(We're talking about the variant with Snapdragon)
AOSP and knox won't be a problem as long as you don't care about 0x1 on Knox warranty

I blame it on timing alone. Why would the developers try to compile a jelly bean ROM when they know that kit kat was going to be released soon.

Cyanogenmod is in the making, it's not ready for nightlies just yet.

Ok! So this is the problem!
I hope that if I were to buy a N9005, I will not have problems in turning it into "Google Edition" without
the annoying problems (like the little support to developers) who presented with other Samsung devices.

release date for CM 11 for exynos?

Anyone might have a clue as to when the galaxy note 3 exynos version will get cyanogenmod ?
Thx
Never, sorry bro. I'm in the same boat

S4 exynos did get cm , but that was ages after cm11 for qualcomm s4 came out.
You might wanna ask devs in i9500 forum for help
Exynos devices exhibit Samsung's greatest disdain for developers. Samsung goes well out of their way to be a PITA by using crappy KNOX in the bootloader and everywhere else. Also the Exynos devices aren't sold in great numbers and not sold at all in North America so many devs don't want (or can't) to take the time on a rare device.
It's too bad bc I see them going on ebay for $350-ish.
