EDIT: My model is I9505
Whilst on holidays, I took my phone out of my bag (when I knew it was getting close to flat) to find it not turning on. I assumed the battery was dead, but when I plugged it into the charger it didn't charge. I fiddled around a bit, and eventually got the vibration and charging light - but it kept turning off before the green battery came on saying charging. Being on holidays I didn't have my USB jig, or even external battery charger with me. I assumed it was a loose connection with the charging port - as every time I tried to plug it into charge it would only sporadically say that it was charging - but never get past the picture of the battery and the swirling icon (prior to the green battery coming up).
Upon arriving home, I got out my external charger, took out the battery, charged it for a few hours, then tried it. Again - it wouldn't turn on.
I then tried plugging the phone in again - but to the 800mA charging doc micro USB, insteead of the standard 2 amp. Straight away I get the charging picture, and the little graphic showing me the phone is about 1% charged. I leave it, the screen goes off. I come back 15mins later, the phone is RIDICULOUSLY hot, and the screen off. I unplug and replug to find the battery is still at about the same 1% level. I turn the phone on - it boots, shows 1/2% and then turns off as soon as I unplug it from the dock - even if I plug it straight into a 2 amp charger. I now decide that maybe the battery itself is the issue - and it's not holding charge. So I whiz out and buy two replacement batteries (MPJ ones, as they were fairly cheap - and this was just for the sake of finding the issue).
I charge one for about an hour on the external charger (the phone didn't turn on when I put the battery straight in). Then put it in - same deal. Nothing. I plug it into the dock micro-USB out to charge - again it comes up as charging, and shows at about 1%. I turn it on, and again am shown 1/2% charge, and again as soon as I unplug from the micro USB dock it turns itself off.
It is almost as if the phone isn't taking any power from batteries, and only direct from the power outlet itself. I'm unsure what could possibly have caused this. I can only think it may have been an external battery which I was using for a while on holidays (which had a 1amp micro USB out, that I was using to try and keep my phone charged). That is the only thing I have done different over this period (at least as far as I can recall!)
So basically - in short:
i) Phone won't turn on unless plugged in to a low amp charger (Computer USB, dock micro USB out etc)
ii) Even after charging batteries in external charger (two different external chargers have been tried) the phone is showing 1/2% battery
iii) The phone turns off a few seconds after I unplug it from the power source.
Any ideas!? I will take the phone to get repaired after Christmas (if they still repair it, as it's running a custom ROM).
BTW. a USB jig worked for the first time this afternoon - when I tried it not long after taking the phone off the dock. It's also worth noting that the phone is ridiculously hot when on the dock (around the camera/sim/micro SD area).

did you even try with a spare battery? can you check if your battery swollen? it might be the battery's fault

Hi, thanks for the response.
As mentioned in my first post, battery was what I thought was the issue at one stage, but I've tried two other batteries too. The original battery isn't swollen, but in any case I'm having the same issue with the other batteries.
I've tried charging them all on external charger before using them in the phone, and I get the same issues regardless of what I do.
It just seems strange that the phone switches on (now showing 0%) when plugged in, but not when unplugged.
And the batteries aren't being read properly, as they show 0% regardless of how long I pre-charge for.
Experimenting tonight, I've found that if I try to boot into recovery - even when plugged into dock, it dies before it even gets into recover.
Yet, if I boot the phone, I get to the main Android launcher/lockscreen before it dies...
Really has me baffled.

Hello again, if you have any spare battery and its has 50 or 100% try to reflash the rom just to see the results. or try a different chargers and cables as well, If it all fails, i think you should send it to Samsung for the warranty. Software problems are somewhat easier to fix here than hardware, so your best option is to let Samsung handle it.

Thanks again for your response, but you're clearly not reading what my issue is before making suggestions. As I have now said twice - I have tried three batteries, and batteries that I have charged for hours on an external charger before using. But they still come up at 0%. Not sure how you imagine I flash a ROM
It may be a matter of taking it to my dealer it seems. If anyone else has suggestions before I get to that (after Christmas) it'd be much appreciated
The batteries fully charged on external chargers and I'm still getting the same issues.
I'm hoping it's not kernel related. Can anyone confirm that if it makes it to download mode Werth a jig (but turns off after a few seconds) that this would be a hardware issue? It only turns on with the jig when it's straight off the charger though - so seems it's still not using the battery for power, almost residual power somewhere.

In my view its a fault of charging IC . Since you have tried with replacing battery.

Sorry, what is charging IC? If it was a charging fault, a fully charged battery would work wouldn't it?
So I took my phone to my SP - Telstra. The phone, being only about 6 months old, was still within warranty period. Not surprisingly, Telstra have said that as there is a Custom ROM on the phone, the warranty is voided. I stated that my understanding is that under Australian law, as it is a hardware fault, and not a fault caused by the ROM, the warranty still stands - however Telstra wouldn't budge and said I have 5 days to decide if I want to pay the $300+ for the repair.
What is my next course of action? Has anybody had a similar issue previously? Is the TIO the next port of call? Or should I be going to NSW Department of Fair Trading?
I'm sure I've read previously that phones are still covered under warranty after rooting etc, if it can be shown that it's a hardware fault, not a software fault. As the battery doesn't seem to be powering the phone, this clearly seems to be the case - esp. as it is the same in download mode and recovery mode.
Any help would be great. Please don't post pointing out that I rooted my phone so THAT's my own fault etc. These posts aren't helpful, I already have know that.

This may seem like a funny question...
But would there happen to be any chargers JUST for the battery? I have a feeling that the usb port in the phone is broken, and I just purchased a new battery. So, I would have no way to charger the battery, nor use the phone...therefore if I could find a battery charger I would be all set. OR, are there any broken/cheap mda's out there that only function to charge the battery(i.e broken screen/speaker/etc)
What do you mean you have a feeling the USB port is broken? You should know this when it's time for a charge. If your device is stll under warranty, try to get a replacement. Since the 8125 is no longer available, you may be able to get a 8525. The same thing happened to me, and I got a replacement after talking to a Cingular rep.

I'm assuming you have a 8125 since this is the Wizard forum, and you did not state what type of device in your thread...
Yes, there are chargers that you can get just for the battery, just check out ebay and I'm sure you'll find a few of them. You might also try your local phone store if it's a decent one that carrys lots of accessories, you might be able to find one there.
I have a tmobile MDA. The phone is out of warranty, and therefore I can't get a replacement. Unless I want to pay for it. The phone is completely dead, to the point where it will no longer turn on. I have read that once the battery is below a critical level, it will no longer accept a charge. I've also read that I would have to give it a small boost via a cut USB cord, to get it above that critical level.
I'm assuming the usb port is dead due to the fact that the orange light no longer turns on. This could be due to the battery being so low, OR the usb port is defective and not accepting a charge.
I'll certainly check ebay for a battery charger. Anything specific I should look for?

Based on what you're saying here, a battery only charger won't help. Where if you can remember did you read that a battery can't be recharged after reaching a critical level? I have read where it's good to periodically drain the battery for extended battery life. The orange light is just the charging indicator, and the battery itself has nothing to do with it. You can plug in the charging port without a battery, and a working device wil show an orange charging light. Your charging port has lost connection inside. Did you drop or abuse your device? Either stock up on batteries, get another device, or have the one you have now repaired.
I'll look and see if I can't find one on there for you and post a link. If I remember right, just searching for t-mobile mda should get you a few of them although you may have to search through a few pages to find one.
Here's one that I just found that has both a sync charger and a spare battery charger(what you're looking for) - http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-AC-BATTERY-...yZ146435QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I know I've seen them that are just a spare battery charger without the sync and they were a lot cheaper but I didn't see any of them listed. I only went through a couple of pages though so I'm sure if you look a little harder than I did you can find them.
I found one on ebay. But I was able to jump start the battery w/ a cut USB cord, and now it's working fine.
Oh, I just read your post saying that your battery was completely dead. I can help you fix that one without cutting up a charger. All you need is a 9v battery and a couple of wires (wire bread ties will work if you don't have any wire handy).
Remove your battery from your phone and connect the 9v battery to it + to + and - to - for 10 seconds, disconnect it for 30 seconds and then repeat the process for a total of 10 times (connect fo 10 secs, disconnect for 30 secs). Then put the battery back in the phone and connect it to the charger again and charge it until it's full and then you should be good after that.

This method worked for me last week, I had the exact same issue and found the same fix somewhere on this forum, Great advice!
Hi guys
I've trawled through the forum and not seen a post with my problem
I got my X10 yesterday, got it home, left it on charge for around 5/6 hours. Gave me full battery. Used the phone all day yesterday, however when put on charge it wouldn't charge? I read somewhere that first time charge it may have to drop to 5% before would charge. So left the phone on for it to fully drain.
It turned itself off yesterday at about 4pm GMT - Plugged it into AC charger, sony erricson screen loads up, then it just says power down and turns itself off.
It has been plugged in usb on 2 different PC's, I've tried using different sockets around the house, I've taken battery out, checked terminals they are clean.
When plugged in the red led just flashes every few seconds and if I unplug the charger and goto turn on it just flashes 3 times.
It has been on 'charge' for over 14 hours now and still it loads up then powers down, occasionally it will flash up saying 2% battery left please connect charger.... (I've had it on charge over 14 hours..)
Could this be a dodgy battery? It worked fine yesterday from the intial charge when I recieved it.
Thanks
Stu
Seems to just be in a constant loop
I am going to ring carphonewarehouse at 11 when they open, but I'm guessing they'll just ask me to send the phone back...
sounds like cable or the wall charger itself or even the battery. best is to take it where you bought it and have them test what is the issue is.
Yeah, going to ring at 11 when the shop opens. Hopefully they can switch me a battery and charger in shop and we'll go from there. Just strange how it worked the previous night!

the x10 uses way more power during switch on and charging and this power cannot be suplied by the usb port.
use a wall charger instead...

When battery is drained, it can take a while for led to light up (giving impression of not charging). You may find that leaving it plugged in for 10 mins will resolve your concerns, the led will light up showing charge state.
External charger? Will it work?
the manual says that it can take up to 30 mins for the phone to even recognize charging. so if you see he red light flashing, its nothing to be concerned about.
i to have had the same problem, not charging and shutting itself down. i had mine 8 days and it was the first day i had used it, took it back t-mobile for repair and they sent it back to SE, 2 weeks later i had a report on what was wrong with it,
Apparently i dropped it or crushed it, just from picking it up and plugging to be charged, so now SE wont repair it. doesnt matter how much i argued with t-mobile that i did not drop it and they will always take the word of the engineer. so i am without a phone and still paying a £35 month contract, and in the long process of contacting t-mobile head office with the supply of goods and services act 1982, all i want them is to repair the damm phone. any one else got any more suggestions
Had similar problem downloaded USB drives and had to do a hard reset on phone. Worked fine after go to Sony Ericsson web check for support and downloads for x10.
I had the exact same problem. Phone would not take a charge and wasn't being recognized by my comp. I tried my battery from my X1 and it worked, and tried charging the battery via my X1 and battery was charging so it was obviously a problem with the charge port. I looked into getting it repaired via warranty but the Sony rep quoted me an unacceptable amount of time. I was able to get it repaired locally same day for $45. Works perfectly now.
Just to clarify for future readers, there may be two issues: (1) software, which per @RMD357, requires downloading the drivers again and doing a hard reset, and (2) hardware, which per @dunny, requires repairing the charge port.
Question to @RMD357, where did you find the drivers to download? I searched the SE website and could not find drivers.
Question to @dunny, what do you tell the repair person if you suspect that the charge port is an issue.
Thanks.
@visitador02 I just told the person at the repair shop my phone stopped taking a charge/being recognized on pc and that I tested different batteries, chargers, and cords so it was most likely a charge port issue. The guy at the shop told me that the charge port was probably damaged while connected to the USB cable and just replacing the part solved the issue. I believe the part cost like $10.
I installed/flashed Gingerblur yesterday and it was working fine for the whole day. At night, I put it back into it's case because I'm still waiting for my New Screen Protector and Case to come. I take really good care of it. Then I did not use the phone for the whole day. After having a really bad day, I started up my brand new Atrix for some fun and it was already at around 5% battery left so I went ahead and tried to charge it. I noticed plugging it into the computer did not work, so I tried wall charging it and that also did not work.
To sum it up,
Symptoms:
-Green Led for 2-3 seconds when I hold down the top main button then shuts off led. Note: Only happens/works if the phone is plugged into the wall.
-Green Led for 4 or more seconds if I plug in wall charger then shuts off led.
-No visual image on screen after battery drained out at all.
What can I do? I don't think I bricked it since it was working perfectly yesterday. Is there anything I can do? I have tried removing battery with no avail, it is plugged in to the wall charger still for the past hour.
This is a very weird problem and I don't know the exact answer..I just know i bricked my atrix before (failed to flash on a full battery) and couldn't charge the dead battery even on AC.
I ended up buying a universal battery charger from radioshack and then returning it once I got my battery fully charged and flashed the rom. Haven't had any battery problems since.
Hope this helps
Thanks, I will try this but it is night time right now. I hope someone else has had experience of this before and can guide me to any other directions.
I did not fail a flash, unless the flash can fail even if Gingerblur was working 100% before it failed. I don't know if thats possible.
Are you using the usb cable/charger that came with the phone?
I know it sounds ridiculous but the phone does NOT charge on any of my existing MicroUSB cables or wall chargers (used to have a nexus one). Pretty bummed about that :/
Yeah I am using the one that came with it.
I also want to update that I've tried my sister's HTC Inspire charger and an old Samsung charger I have left around.
Both are USB to wall Adapters (I am not using the same wall power adapter for each charger) so I wonder if I need the one that plugs directly into the wall?
Yeah, you probably just have a dysfunctional battery or charger, either way, you're going to have to diagnose which one is the problem (fingers crossed that it isn't the phone)
/e:
it sounds like its not the charger, from your most recent post.
I think your phone is the problem, it's not processing how to charge the battery from the cable.
Common problem. You need at least 850mA to charge the phone, so older usb ports wont work. The wall charger is actually working. Pull the battery out, put it back in, plug in the wall charger(don't press any buttons!) and let it sit for about 30min to get a decent charge. Should boot up after that.

Hm, it's been charging for over an hour now and still hasn't turned on. But I did not do it exactly as you said. I unplugged the battery acouple times but I always try to hold the "fingerprint" on button right after plugging it in. I'll try not pressing anything this time. Thanks, I'll post back if I get any results.
The phone should turn on if charging, you don't need 850mA either. Standard USB is 500 and it just charges slower. I know this for a fact as I just charged it like that.
Take it into a store or contact where you bought it from.
Plugging in phone while off: Green LED for a bit, moto logo, battery icon
Power on, no charger : green light for a bit longer, moto logo, boot animation.
Try an at&t stores charger and see if theyll let you charge the battery.

With a dead battery you need 850 mAH. The phone needs 850 mA ti boot and it needs to boot to charge (strange yes but software controls the charge).
I would suggest trying all the chargers you can (the Moto one may be giving you to little amps) and if that does not work you can try to either 1) make a dev cable (post on how to in the dev section, though it requires soldering and such so you may not be able to do it if you don't have supplies) or 2) get a charger for the battery (one to directly charge the battery vice through the phone).
The battery method did not work, I did not try to hold the main button until 1 hour later to no avail. I'm going to Best Buy tomorrow for a replacement.
Edit: Oops..Too late to the party! I had the same issue that was fixed when I used a good quality micro-usb charger!
850ma? You sure?
I've charged and booted my phone from dead on a 700ma charger and 500ma usb on numerous occasions.
U need not worry .. put it in a wall charger .. and let it sit dere for atleast an hour .. the green led will come up when charge level reaches around 50% or more .. be patient ..

I had the exact same issue the other day. I forgot to put my phone on charge at night, and it was dead in the morning. I plugged into the wall with my Moto charger, the phone turned on and went right to CWM. I rebooted from there, the phone showed 5% battery level, and within 10-15 minutes was at 20%.
I thought it strange my phone went right to the old Tenfar CWM even though I uninstalled it after unlocking my phone and installing the latest CWM from Tenfar.
It does seem that the shut off with the battery is 5%. I am assuming this is the safety factor built into either the Android OS, or the batteries themselves, as they do have circuits in them much like mini computers to shut them off before 100% discharge, as this will kill a Lithium Ion battery.
Some simple facts regarding the Lithium Ion batteries:
•They start degrading as soon as they leave the factory. They will only last two or three years from the date of manufacture whether you use them or not.
•They are extremely sensitive to high temperatures. Heat causes lithium-ion battery packs to degrade much faster than they normally would.
•If you completely discharge a lithium-ion battery, it is ruined.
•A lithium-ion battery pack must have an on-board computer to manage the battery. This makes them even more expensive than they already are.
•There is a small chance that, if a lithium-ion battery pack fails, it will burst into flame.
What I would like to know is why some people have problems getting a charge back in the Atrix after a complete discharge. There I was at 20% after 10-15 minutes using the Moto wall charger, while other people can't even get their phones to turn on after an hour on the wall charger.
I have the same problem, tried everything and finally found a solution
Get a warranty replacement.
The phone won't turn on, so they don't know what you did to it.
Got my new phone today, popped the dead battery in and voila, it charges !
Sometimes it's like people say, it's because of the charge, but your phone probably have issue, just get a replacement
I let it charge all night and it still has the same symptoms. Going to Best Buy in an hour when it opens.
When I get my new phone, should I Gingerblur it again or am I going to face this same issue? Was this software related or hardware?
Gingerblur was relatively easy to do, but I don't want to risk killing my phone a second time.
UPDATE: Got a replacement phone. Complementing whether I want to Gingerblur it again because that's the only thing that could have caused the battery issue other than it being hardware related.

You can try it again should work fine for you. If not...
You can always use their phone and your "dead battery" and visa versa theirs into your phone. Then if same issue happens. Just warranty the phone. If your in warranty do it. I've had g1's for no reason not charge. Led says it, os says it, yet NONE of my working batteries were getting any charge off the phone. Especially when the phone was 3 days old. Warranty.... if its free do it.

850ma? You sure?
I've charged and booted my phone from dead on a 700ma charger and 500ma usb on numerous occasions.

Yes if warranty then ok .. But we are here to do the impossible.. I just reconditioned a new battery just so it can turn phone on in same instance for a friend. So yes batteries and phones new can have charging issues.
There is an issue with smart-phones and batteries and has been since day one. If you are here then evidently you either love these phones and want to mod them or you are like me and love playing with electronics. Real simple if you in the smart-phone world there are a few rules of thumb..
1.) Never begin working without a fully charged battery (some say 51% or better I say 100% )
2.) Buy , borrow , get an external battery charger and/or stronger wall charger
3.) Extra batteries are always good.
4.) Read the damn stickies and wiki's ... People have taken plenty of time creating them. Those who know me know I have written some myself.
5.) The biggest problem is located between the chair and the keyboard .... (lol)
So YD206 about a month old. Was connected to official yota charger (via a magnetic usb cable), noticed the plug at the phone end getting quite hot. Phone now essentially dead, wont boot, doesn't seem to charge. We also realised the charger had come out of the wall socket. But the yotaphone light was intermittently flashing on the charger.
Whilst I am inclined to blame the magnetic charging cable, is it possible for current to flow in reverse from phone to charger and essentially discharge the phone battery below acceptable levels?
Any advice on rebooting it (can't remove the battery like I would on a Samsung) so whats the procedure?
Just a follow up charger not the issue, it crashed in use and the power button became non-responsive, with the screen off, and the e-ink display on but also unresponsive. Did not turn on when connected to a charger. However when I connected it to my pc it did register in device manager as MTP device, so I knew it was still alive. Removed the sim and held the power button down for 10 seconds then it rebooted.
Hope this helps anyone else with a similar problem.
Failing that it would probably have to be left to discharge (might take a while if nothing is running) then powered back on with charger attached.
I have similar problem. My phone got hot while not charging (about 15% of battery) and crashed. Then forced reboot (hold power button for about 10 seconds) helped while phone was connected to Yota charger, battery was dead, but phone booted (EPD on, did not check rest) and got to about 81%. After removing it from charger, same thing happened again, no luck with forced reboot this time. Phone was blazing hot and did not respond, then crashed again. No response after connecting charger or forced reboot. Any experience with this issue appreciated.

It seems a battery issue. Have your Yotaphone a valid warranty?

I am not sure about my warranty, bought it off AliExpress, I guess I could try to send it to manufacurer (i heard Russia provides repair service).
EDIT ( t + 2 days): I managed to start my Yota again. I connected it to computer and after about 5 minutes, magic happened and phone started all by itself. I will try to find out more, will update this as soon as I find something
Man, you are more lucky than me, I have a dead yotaphone lying around here. It also died after connecting it to a bad power source.
In my case it was the usb-port of a monitor.
When I checked the usb-port with a cable with a volt/amp display I saw that it was going on and off very quickly.
But so I would say be careful where you connect your yotaphone to, it does not seem to handle weird power sources all too well.

I actually thought about burning charging circuitry a lot. I wonder, if you would be able to test wireless charging. With some luck, it is independent enough to not be affected by burning micro usb charging route (depends where high voltage safety is implemented). If this make any sense to you, please give this a try (I think IKEA is place to go, they should have working wireless chargers in their model setups) and report back. If I am wrong in any aspect, I'd appreciate any correction with explanation.

Sorry for the late reply, did not see the quote, but it does not work with wireless charging either. I think the battery still has a lot of charge too. Thing is that the Motherboard also gets hot after a while when I try to charge it. I'm pretty sure my motherboard is dead. But I have another Yotaphone now, so maybe in the future I will test with every separable part replaced.
I use the charger from my iphone. It works great, although with the yotacharger also works well. Attention that I have a YotaPhone YD201 with Russian base and european compilation. Like I said the Iphone charger works great and doesn't warm my Yotaphone 2 . It might be a solution for your problems with charging.
I recently went on vacation this past Sunday. I had a good time, however, I didn't expect to come back with a 500$ paperweight.
The night before I was set to check out, I began experiencing problems with the charger I had brought with me. It was a brand new AUKEY 27W USB Charger, with a hella nice metal USB C cable from WGGE. Both of them had great product reviews, yet to my utter dismay, I began to experience issues with the charger only three days after I had bought it.
I went to plug in my charger and began to experience what I can only describe as a flickering power source. (the "battery low" notification kept on reappearing) I thought it was an issue with the ROM I was running (AICP 13.1 Official), so I shut off the phone to charge it without having the phone turned on. Little did I know, this would be the last time my phone would work.
The notification LED began to flash red over and over again when the charger was plugged in. I had experienced this before when I was using the stock charger and let my phone battery run completely dry, so I figured it was okay to leave it charging while I walked to a local 7-Eleven to buy a temporary USB-C cable to get my phone to 100% and then throw away. (i don't trust gas station chargers)
I get back to my hotel, and when I go to plug in my phone, I notice the red LED was gone. Strange, considering the phone was still plugged into the faulty charger mentioned earlier. I figured that the phone was charged and was on the lockscreen, however when I went to press the power button, nothing happened.
Uh oh.
My heart sank to the floor, as I realized what was occurring. I only began to use Android devices instead of iPhones back in 2016, and I had never had a phone simply refuse to power on no matter what I tried. I plugged it into the 7-Eleven charger, and I got no response. Worried, I brought the phone and the 7-Eleven charger down to the public computers the hotel was offering to guests. I searched for answers for 30 minutes, trying to see if there was anything I could do to get the phone to even get to the bootloader. I finally got the notification LED to flash red when I plugged the phone into the computer and held down the volume down and power buttons for 15 seconds. I had high hopes, yet those hopes were shattered when the LED stopped flashing only a few seconds later.
I tried every solution that was offered to me. I left it charging for 30 minutes on the 7-Eleven charger, I let the phone sit untouched for 2 hours, I even put the damn phone in the fridge for ten minutes as an act of desperation to get my poor baby to wake back up. My efforts were in vain, as my phone has yet to even power on, and I doubt it will ever turn on again.
Nevertheless, I ask you: what can I do to fix this thing? I'm not the richest person in the world, so I'd rather not purchase a new phone right now, and I love my Essential Phone. Its probably my favorite phone I've had. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, as I am at a loss as to what to do. Thanks!
I had a similar experience with my son's Moto z Droid. His cat chewed through the charging cable while the phone was connected. Same symptoms as your having, almost exactly. Drained the battery below it's safety threshold because it shorted across the usb-c turbo charger. Only way I was able to fix it was to replace the battery.
You may try leaving it hooked to a computer for a couple days. The USB port may trickle charge it enough to power up.
I've had this happen to a coupe of cheap phones and was able to get them back by removing the battery and charging it straight from battery terminals until the phone was able to boot then charged to 100% with usb.
