International or Korean LG G2 on Verizon? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have Verizon and want to get a G2 although it's back bottom lay out is not appealing to me. I don't have an upgrade in sight so I have been thinking in getting the international version or the Korean version. What do you think of that. Will these versions work on Verizon 4G LTE network?

N7100 HSPA+ speed with ATT

Just curious what kind of speed (download and upload) are people getting on AT&T using the N7100?
Screen capture of the speed test would be very appreciated.
Thanks!!

This right here is the only reason I'm interested in the AT&T Note 2.

So far there's no sign of the white version for ATT. And updates seem to be much slower getting to ATT phones. I have the ATT Galaxy S3 and no Jelly Bean yet. That's why I'm considering the international version instead. Plus there's a good deal on newegg now for 589.

I'm not sure yet. That's why I started that other thread. It's my theory and hope that you can flash international firmware onto (some) of the domestic North American Note 2's (including Canadian versions).
Just as an example, and I think I may have briefly touch on this in the other thread, take a look at the original Galaxy Tab (7 inch).
The international version of that device, available everywhere else around the world, was able to function as a phone out of the box.
The domestic carrier versions of the same device did not offer phone functionality at all, and were basically locked down, pay-as-you-go only, data-only, worthless (but expensive) pieces of crap! Unfortunately, if you had a CDMA version (Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, etc.), you were totally out of luck, because the chipsets were different (or at least the modem firmware), and not compatible with the international firmware. However, the GSM US models were an exception, especially the AT&T version, and here's why:
With the very slight exception of the T-Mobile version (which used a custom UMTS modem for its own 1700mhz AWS band), the North American GSM Galaxy Tab's had -exactly- the same hardware, transistor for transistor. As such, if you bought an AT&T branded Tab (as I did), and you didn't like your carrier dictating to you what features you could or couldn't have on your device (which I didn't), you could give them a big fat middle finger by simply flashing the international firmware in all its unlocked feature-full glory.
With the T-Mobile version, it was slightly different due to the custom modem. If you simply flashed the international firmware and just left it at that, phone functionality would work fine, but you wouldn't have 3G functionality (because the international firmware didn't support 1700mhz AWS), so you'd be stuck on EDGE. However, if you wanted 3G, all you had to do was use Mobile Odin to flash the T-Mobile specific modem.bin, and off you went (minus working phone functionality). You had to flip flop between two modems, depending on your needs, but it was an OK workaround.
So anyway, this all gets me back to the Note 2 of today. As I mention in the other thread, seeing as how the North American Note 2's are almost identical to their international counterparts, with the major exceptions being the radio hardware and modem firmware, shouldn't it then be possible to get international firmware working on a domestic version?
The first step would be to see if you could even flash international firmware onto a domestic Note 2 and get the thing to even boot up.
Assuming that's possible, and say you have limited cellular functionality (if any at all!), with perhaps only WiFi working or something, then the next step would be to extract the modem.bin from the carrier-specific firmware, and then flash that over the international firmware.
Hopefully, theoretically, that should get you up and running!
*bump*. Anyone else care to share their results?
Thanks

Which version to get? AT&T/T-Mobile/unlocked?

I've searched and searched but can't seem to find any definitive answers.
I want to get the LG G2, but can't decide which version to go with. Currently I'm on T-Mobile through Straight Talk on my Nexus 4, but am probably going to switch to AT&T once I get the new phone.
My question is, does the unlocked G2 (D802) fully support T-Mobile? The D802 looks to fully support AT&T.
Also, does the AT&T variant support T-Mobile at all if unlocked?
I want to get the unlocked version to avoid all the AT&T bloatware and branding. It would be really nice if the unlocked variant fully supported both AT&T and T-Mobile, because I like the flexibility to switch between them.
Thanks for your help!

Steve

D800 = AT&T
D801 = T-Mobile
D802 = International
I think the D801 is the only one that supports the 1700 MHz frequency, which is required if you want to get T-Mobile HSPA+ in an area that is not refarmed to 1900 MHz.

[Q] Lost Phone, Can I use Sprint LG G2 On verizon?

I had a little too much fun on new years eve .. I set my Verizon LG G2 down on a table and apparently either I left it or it was stolen .. I probably left it hahaha..
Now i'm trying to get another one .. I really loved the phone...
I'm scouring eBay ..
I'm in a 2 year contract with verizon ..... but, I wanted to know ... Can I use a Sprint based LG G2 on the verizon network ? Will I still get verizon LTE ?
Same thing with T-mobile versions ? Can I get all the bands and function I did out of my verizon LG G2 ?
Thanks for the heads up guys.
I know that the Verizon one can use Sprint, but I am not sure about the other war around. I think the global one works on Verizon's LTE band, although I am not sure an that either. If you can afford it, get the Verizon model (VS980) off contract. You can check the bands and other specs on phone arena.
The T-Mobile one seems to share frequencies of Verizon's though.
Hope I helped.
Verizon and Sprint are CDMA carriers and run on compatible CDMA frequencies and technologies (1xRTT, EvDO) and both their branded phones can roam on/off each other's network for both voice and data.
Having said that, the fact that they're primarily CDMA carriers means that you cannot just bring a phone onto their respective networks. The ESN/MEID of the phone has to already be in their database for them to activate.
So, taking a Sprint LG G2 and walking into a Verizon store or calling Verizon to activate it will get you a big fat NO, and vice versa.
Is it technically possible? Of course.
Worth the effort/hassle? No.
T-Mobile is a GSM carrier, no CDMA, so that's out of the question, same with AT&T, or any GSM variant of the G2.
Get a Verizon LG G2. Just keep looking carefully and you'll find a good deal.
I got my Sprint LG G2 mint in box for 325, clean ESN, no funny business. Love it to bits.
You can use Sprint LG G2 on Tmobile, takes about 20 minutes

In response to this assessment I have to correct these "facts"
You CAN use Tmobile's network on Sprint LG G2 Variant. See Younggunners forum on Sprint-Tmobile rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2639165
I am currently getting 4G speeds at around 14 mb on the down and 4 on the up, very workable.
I can attest that it works; I have also performed the flash on other sprint LG G2 LS980 Variants as well.
I am using Justin's rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2639165&page=11,
It's an awesome stock experience!

I think you missed what he was saying. He was saying that the T-Mobile and ATT variants do not support any CDMA so they will not work at all. The sprint variant supports Verizon CDMA but verizon will not activate a sprint device on their network. In any case the sprint device does not support Verizon LTE bands. Even if Verizon activated a sprint g2 on their network it would be 3G only.

LG V20 Unlocked (US996) vs TMobile LG V20?

Hey Guys,
So I am seriously interested in this phone but cant decide what the difference is between these 2 variants?
It seems that TMobile LG V20 has no support for CDMA and support for AWS-3 spectrum (Band 66)
The unlocked version seems to support CDMA but I dont know if it has support for Band 66.

Can someone please shed some light on this? Will the unlocked version include all the bells and whistles of TMobile variant?
Thanks.

You'll have to look around but I thought it was confirmed the unlocked version B&H is selling is not Band 66 compliant.

Thanks! Do you have any link that confirms that?
US996 is USCC (US Cellular) version which does not have B4 HSPA.
I can confirm that, unfortunately, the T-Mobile LG V20 will not come with an unlockable bootloader. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this something I got straight from the top-level guys @ TMO.
Possible good news, see two post below.

@planetbeen That would be Mr. Lucero and Miss Viola, director's in their respective divisions.
Anyways... I might have some good news.
I was called this morning and included in a conversation between TMO and LG. LG is now saying the bootloader will not be "locked down". I tried asking about fastboot and they were being a bit shady and gave me a vague answer.
Take this how you will.
Well we now have a couple people who have received their v20.. Hopefully we'll know very soon!

What is the bloatware situation on the T-Mobile vs unlocked? And can all of the bloat be deleted? (Especially any anti-virus software!)
Despite my phone will be arriving on monday, Let me ask you a question that might make you get your choice. do both of then offer great promotions? and which one has the frequencies more suitable to your needs?
I pre ordered the tmobile variant because im currently on tmobile. But that's not the only reason, i grabbed all the offers too and the phone ended up being $520 (+ 49.99 down payment + 53.90 of taxes) thanks to the $200 dollars when you trade-in a 4g phone (any phone that is 4g (preferably 4g lte), and also i get the free H3 earphones (i have to redeem it on LG website). And also, i get the opportunity of the free tablet (sure, at a cost of having to add an extra line but that is only 10 dollars more for 24 month and also is optional). In additon, Tmobile variant has unlocked bootloader, no other variant has reported that as far as i know.
How do you know it has an unlocked bootloader? I got mine yesterday. Is there any way we can check I recovery or something to see if it's locked?

because there was someone who already did it. it doesnt come unlocked, but it is unlockable , at least for the Tmobile version.

also there are some posts around in XDA LG V20 section, the first 3 sub-sections. Right now @bountyman334 has tried several methods to root it however he hasnt hit the spot yet. But im sure there are also quite a few people who haven't spoken but are trying to root it. You will have to ask them how did the manage to do it, but at least we know that if we have the Tmobile variant, we have unlockable bootloader. :good::good:
Oh man that is awesome to hear! I was just saying the only thing that could make this phone the best in years would be if I could install custom roms like the old days!

But remember, unlocked bootloader doesnt mean you will get root and roms. (I will soon be an owner of the V20 tmobile variant so is not like i m not expecting for a rooting method and roms soon after) . On the other hand, we are closer than any other variants

I am hoping that with an unlocked Bootloader more devs will jump on-board; especially with Samsung no longer being dev friendly for US models. I am very pleased with the V20. I wasn't sure I would find something I was happy with to replace my TMobile Note 4. But so far this is an excellent choice.

This is the same as the unlocked LG G5. It won't work on Sprint. Why would any company make an unlocked cell phone that works on three of the four US carriers? Phones that work on Sprint can be used on RingPlus who offer free phone/data plans.
LG's unlocked phones are an abortion done with pliers.

Using unlocked v20 on AT&T

Hi guys.
Will I have any band issues if I get the phone unlocked from LG?
Does it have all of the LTE bands for AT&T?
What about getting a t mobile V20 and using it on AT&T?
Thank you.
Probably. I am using a verizon v20 on my tmo sim and it never gets LTE. Just H+. Its a crap phone in that regard.

The unlocked V20 (US996) will work on ATT, even though it does not have ALL the bands. I have one on ATT right now and don't have any issues. The missing bands are for newer frequencies being added to support capacity. I live in a metropolitan area so I have good base support. Check this link for details. https://www.frequencycheck.com/models/AzWoD/lg-us996-v20-lte-a

To each his/her own. Reading papashex's words is what finally convinced me to get this particular version.
It has the same bands as my S4. US996 is missing Band 33 I believe, well so is my S4. I think I'll be fine.
