device not working properly after flashing cm rom - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I upgraded to 4.3 and then i tried to flash a new rom which ended up messing my phone up badly. Luckily i had a back up but for some reason when i restore it it says all may apps stop working so then i have to do a factory reset. I do that and now my wifi will not turn on, my sound doesnt work properly, and neither does making phone calls. ive tried everything i know. i was also wonder if it was possible to downgrade from 4.3 to 4.2.

Which firmware were you on? MJA or MK2? If you were on MK2 try flashing the MK2 firmware off of sammobile thru Odin and see if that helps.. And no, you can not downgrade from 4.3 unfortunately...

I had a similar problem. My Wifi would only work till I stopped using it (screen went off or I stopped pulling data). Then it would forget the local access points. I tried reflashing and changing my ROM. I formatted everything including the SD card. I finally fixed it by downgrading back to MDC and stock recovery. I took the MDL OTA (unrooted/stock recovery) and then flashed back to MF9 (manual not OTA) and then re-rooting it using ChainFire-Autoroot.
QBKing has a write up on how to do this for the MDL to MF9.
ChainFire-Auto root is posted in almost every other thread.
Doing it this method I did not have to format my Data partation and everything runs perfectly without having to freeze anything or such.

I am having issues upgrading from MJA to MK2

I am using this rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2567353
and I have flashed this mk2 firmware after installing the rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2338919
My issue is that upon loading my wifi does not work. wont even turn on. I am using philz recovery and have done multiple preps for new rom before installing and then for good measure wipe user data twice more before initial boot. all to no avail. Also upon inspection I noticed that some settings in "about device" dont seem to add up it appears that my device retains MF9 radio despite my attempts at flashing the correct firmware in the thread linked above.
Software Version reads as MF9
Basband Version reads as MF9
Build Number MK2
any ideas how to fix this?
Yeah you have to be on the MK2 modem for Wifi to work with that one.
What error are you getting when you try to Odin the modem?

Make sure to run Odin 'as administrator'
Also as noted in the OP "With MJA [MK2 also!] Firmware, some people report better success with turning Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time unchecked.
Do the same flash, but when you see PASS on Odin, unplug the phone and Hold the Power key for 10 seconds to reboot." OR even Battery pull

[Q] How do I upgrade to newer rooted firmwares ?

When I bought my phone I was on MF9 firmware stock. I rooted it , then tried to do the system hotspot mod. i ended up bricking the phone. The only way I could unbrick the phone at that time was to flash to MDC, which the hotspod mod was working on. Now ive been trying to flash newer custom roms,(because im still on ancient MDC), and I can never get it to work. Do I have to upgrade in order ? Ex. MDC to MDL to MF9 and so on ? Does my hotspot system file mods have something to do with it ? I really wannt try these new ROMS , but it just never works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would like to know this as well. I'm stuck on MDC (i think thats the first firmware?) and I would like to know the best upgrade path in order to get the latest modem, ect.
I'm on mf9 with the hot spot working. Tried to go to the mdk modem and software, soft bricked twice. Gave up and went back to mf9. If it ain't broke, don't fix it lol.

[Q] No wifi after stock rom install and factory reset Rogerss

I was rooted on 4.2.2 with Rogers but wanted to update to 4.4.2 and didnt really use the root anyway. So i installed back the stock rom and resetted to factory. But now wifi wont turn on at all. I ran the softaware update and im still on 4.2.2 and it says I have the latest version available but i know rogers released 4.4.2 in march 2014...
Anyway, which way should i go to get everything working again?
Thanks
I don't know if anyone has explained why this happens, but sometimes the modem firmware doesn't completely "take", leaving parts not working correctly. Reflashing the modem usually corrects this. In your case, where you want to upgrade to the latest firmware, you should download it from sammobile.com and flash it through Odin. Not only will you not have to worry about a software update, but installing the updated ROM through Odin should correct your WiFi issue as a new modem will be flashed with the firmware.
downloading now, i'll report back
fixed thanks a lot

Zact appearing on stock rom, can't text or call.

I've flashed stock tar NG2, and every time I try to boot the device Zact comes up and tries hijack the phone. I'm on Sprint and activated with Sprint and AOSP roms work fine. I was trying to return to stock to get the stock Lollipop update but it seems I've hit this problem.
I'm afraid to try the NAE tar since I've already flashed the NG2 bootloader but I'm wondering if that would change anything anyway.
What am I doing wrong?

Why you don't try lollipop and some ROMs have zact and other don't have but make sure before flashing new ROM to wipe everything twice and reboot to recovery again then flash your ROM.
Zact is part of the stock rom. Give it the old ##72786#. Try connecting to Wi-Fi to finish activating. If that doesn't work factory reset. Are you on a sprint post paid plan and not prepaid?
