Install Android ROM Without SD Card? - HD2 General

Hi there,
I have an HD2 here that I wish to put an Android ROM on. It previously had an old version of SlimRom, but when I flashed that I had an SD card handy, now I don't...
It has HSPL 2.08, Radio 2.15.50.14, and is currently on cLK 1.5.1.6, though I have been swapping between that and MAGLDR to find anyway to flash a ROM. It currently has TWRP on it, though CWM has been on. My dilemma is that I need to install a ROM .zip from the phones internal storage, but I seem to have no way to put any files on there.
What can I do?
Thanks

well, you can use old roms that would install through magldr->usb flasher!
but i think they were all froyo!!! so i guess you have to find a microsd card!
i donno if there is any other way.
i will search and tell you if i find anything.

[Q] NAND Android flash from SD

Hi all,
First some explenation. My USB port broke . Since it is my own fault I can not return it. Now I am thinking of replacing the main board since I can not find out where the data lines could be connected to on the mainboard. Power I fixed. So my HD2 is fine but the USB does not work.
Now... I have HSPL2 and MAGLDR 1.11 installed on the device, but is there any way to flash radio's and or NAND ROMS from SD just like the WM6.x?
I read some stuff onces about partitioning SD for flash with MAGLDR 1.12 but I have 1.11
If this is posible, I can keep using my current HD2 and within a few months I can get a new one when my contract ends. Else I need a new mainboard.
Thanks

If your phone has already been partitioned via DAF then you can flash CWM roms via the SD card in recovery (CWM).
Well, I can always partition my SD on a computer, that I can do, still this leaves me with the radio. Is there an other way to do it, I know it should be posible, but is there anyone who already build such software?

Yes, you can flash radios from the SD card. To do this:
Rename the radio you download to "leoimg.nbh"
Place it on the root of your SD card
Place your phone in the bootloader (power off, hold vol down and power on)
Bootloader should recognize leoimg.nbh and ask if you want to flash it
YES.... Stupid me... That one is not afecting the rom area. Thanks, You are the best!
Well, I have an other question, i can't find anything that will partition my PHONE. Not the SD. Is there software for the HD2 which can partion the ROM without USB. I have CWM working fine, only the current partitions I have I miss the cache partition. If this is posible everyone can install everything but HSPL through SD.
I don't think its actually possible to partition your phone memory. At least, not with any software I know of.
Then i don't understand how stuff is working, All the CWM zips need a specific partition size, I don't have cash, so where are these located? like where is mtdblock1 and 2 for instance (system and data) Is mtdblock0 boot? is mtblock3 cashe?

[Q] Android not booting from SD card

Hi Guy's, I'm totally new to trying to boot android fromSD on the Hd2. I have tried putting the Android folder from MDJ Froyo 4.6 onto the root of my SD card. I've run CLRCAD and haret. All get is the black screen with 'loading linux' (which remains stationary). I have left the phone for up half an hour and its still stationary an no Android. I,ve tried reformatting 2 cards. Help !!!
Hi ! You'd better change to an Android NAND Build, I'm currently using Android 2.2 NexusHD2 Froyo V1.9G Build on NAND, but I'm also using SD Android builds to test them..
So I never met problems when booting into Android.. but I'm using the latest Radio: 2.15.50.14 ..
By the way if you're booting into Android through CLRCAD & Haret, this means you're currently on WinMo 6.5, so it may be that your current WinMo 6.5 ROM is old, so try this one, if you're using European HD2, try to update your ROM to version 3.14.405.2, which is this one: http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=1043&news_id=782, but if you're using the T-Mobile US HD2, then try to update to ROM 3.14.531.1, which is this: http://dl.htc.com/ruudownload/t-mobileUS/DeviceDownloads.aspx?pid=leo2 ..
Your Radio Version may also be outdated, so that's why you can't load Android, which requires the newest versions of Radio to use... try the newest version 2.15.50.14.. which is this one: http://www.multiupload.com/QP0IWGY42F

Make sure you have radio 2.08.50.xx or higher.... what kind of HD2 do you have? Are you using a custom rom or stock rom.
did you install hspl3?
just like me i tried to install( when i was new)face this problem.
also if you have original rom installed get rid-of that find alternate best rom then try to install android .but b4 you do any things read carefully.
what size is your sd card? check if it doesn't get full at the boot. i had the same issue and it turned out that bigger sd card help.

If he has not HSPL... then he has not the good radio.
If he has the good radio... he has the good spl
What happen to one of my friend (can't remember if it was on HD or HD2) was an incompatible SD card. Try with another SD (if your radio is ok).
Stick with the sd version for now. Nand is still buggy and twice as difficult to install. Try nand when you get a little more knowledgeable.
So you tried 2 cards and formatted them both. Both cards are over 2GB?
As a couple members above mentioned you need a radio of 2.08.50 or above on your phone for android. EX: 2.10.50, 2.12.50, 2.14.50, or 2.15.50. To get the radio you either need to install rom 3.14 on your phone only if available for your regioned phone or install HSPL then 1 of those radios.
Thanks very much. I'll try and give it a go.
The ROM I'm using is a stock O2 UK ROM version 1.72.206.3, Radio version 2.07.51.22. I'd like to try using a cooked ROM, but I am going to have to read carefully how to flash as I've only done this once with the stock ROM. I will also try using a new sd card when i get a chance to go out and buy one. !! Thanks to everyone who has replied.

You have problem with the radio version. You have a .51 radio (ie 2.07.51.22) instead of the .50 radio (2.08.50.xx or higher .50). You will need to install HSPL 2.08.hspl and then flash a compatible radio. There's probably nothing wrong with your sd card, it's your radio version.

Bullsh1t!
NAND builds are no more or less buggy the SD builds and they are not "twice" as difficult to install at all.

Hi mate, I use SD American Android and it works well.
You should have SPL 2.08 HSPL
You need Radio 2.15.xx
And you need a custom rom that is compatible. As a reference, I use platinum series custom wm rom (check my sig below)
Reformat your micro sd with fat32. Dont put any files on there, except the Android files in the root of your sd card.
Dont forget to change the gps zone in the "Startup.cfg" to your location/country code
Leave it booting for 30 minutes..
I also thought that it wouldn boot, after almost 30 minutes it booted...
Dont give up mate

You do not have to have HSPL to run Android from SD card, HSPL is only needed if you are going to flash a custom Win Mo ROM, a stock Win Mo ROM that os not for your HD2, MAGLDR, cLK, or if you are going to run a Task 29. I ran three different Android SD builds before going NAND and never had HSPL on my HD2 until I got ready to flash MAGLDR.
Also you do not have to flash a custom ROM to run Android. You just want to have a 3.14 Win Mo ROM be it stock or custom. what matters is that ot is a 3.14 ROM. I ran all three Android SD card builds on a completely stock 3.14 ROM and never had any problems with them, except data drops which are just because they are SD builds.
Oh and by they way I accidently hit your thanks button trying to hit quote. lol

No ROM is working anymore

I was using the XBmod 1.10 all the time. Today I wanted to flash the new 1.11 ROM. I had no problems with flashing the ROM. HSPL 2.08, RadioROM 2.15 and Magldr 1.13 is installed. But after flashing it hang up on the black HTC screen after Magldr.
Now when I flash the 1.10 Version again I cant open Pictures and Camera anymore. I thought at first that its a problem with the SD Card so I reformated the card again with SDFormatter but the SD Card is correcty recognized by WP7 and Zune.
When I flash another ROM like HD2O 1.14 I cant open the Internet Explorer. Before XBmod 1.10 I was using HD2O 1.13 ROM without any problems.
So what the hell happend that no ROM is working anymore? Never had problems with flashing nor with my SD Card. Tried Task29 several times and always before flashing.
Please help!
Did you properley format your card?
You've probably tried this but just going through what I would do in your situation..
Format SDCard....
Format: FULL+Overwrite
Size Adjustment: ON
Clean Install..
Get the HD2 Tools in the sticky thread in Android NAND section
Put phone into bootloader - Use Task29
Put phone into bootloader - Install MAGLDR
Boot MAGLDR and load USB Flasher
Flash ROM
If the above doesn't fix issue then it sounds like a hardware issue, either your device or card. Try a different card.
Definitely do a task 29. I've had issues re-flashing WP7 multiple times and everytime I task 29 and reinstall everything (just MAGLDR really) and then flash, then it works wonderfully. I spent almost a whole night trying to get WP7 and SD android to boot together and after I got it I vowed never to flash a new build again...shame that vow was broken the next day
I think that your sd card is crashed. I had similar problem with qumo card. It worked very unstable. Try to change the card.
Thank you for your replies!
How I said..I am using Task29 all the time before flashing ROMs.
@TheATHEiST
I formated my SD Card again with Full+Overwrite and size adjustment but its still the same.
The XBmod 1.11 ROM wont start after flashing.
I will give 1.10 a try again, but I dont know that to try anymore.
Do you mean this tools? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783
What do I have to do with that?
I also tried another SD Card but I only have a 1GB Card at the moment and the card didnt work. I think the size is too small.
But why the hell I can copy pictures on my card but WP7 cant see them in pictures? And why does the other ROM work but Internet Explorer not?
Thats totally weird.
EDIT:
Its working again!!
I formated my SD Card again with SDFormatter and then I flashed the HTC 1.66 Stock ROM without SIM Card.
Then I flashed RadioROM 2.15 and Magldr 1.13 again. After that XBmod 1.10. After installation I changed the language, restart, then finished the installation wizard til WP7. Then I put in the SIM Card and started again.
Now everything works.
I still dont have a clue what is about XBmod 1.11 but I dont have the nuts anymore to try it again... atleast this evening
So I am still interested in some hints to get 1.11 working.
Thanks
Shaitan! Maybe your sim card is main problem? And first firmware was uploaded without errors?
I didnt really get you but my SIM Card wasnt never a problem. I didnt have no errors when i flashed any ROM.

Can I root/install android on an HD2 with a broken USB port?

I came across an HD2 with a broken USB port... ie i cannot charge through it or send/receive data through it. I can still use the phone by having a spare battery and an external battery charger
is there a way to install android on this without needing the USB port?
you need usb to install hspl, magldr and recovery....rom can be installed through sdcard...but to get there u need a usb..
changing usb port is easy if you know little bit of soldering and a spare usb head (you can get this in radioshack)...but u should know wat u r doing ...else u might damage the device
If you have HSPL installed, then you are lucky. You can Install cLK 1.5 from SD card with built-in recovery. Download from here.
Yeah, just dl clk1.5, extract the zip, copy the leoimg.nbh file to your sd, startup your mobile, press and hold the vol down key before starting (for ttricolored screen), and let it install clk (tricolored screen shoukd turn automaticly into grey and ask you if you want to install the.nbh file). Cwm comes with clk. And you can change the cwr(clockwork recovery) size via clk perfect ffor broken usb devices

Hi folks, I have a similar situation with a broken usb of a HD2. My radio is 2.05.51.05_2 and the SPL is 1.42.000. I don't have HSPL and I was wondering whether I can install any rom on it (wm6.5 or android). I am new to wm6.5, thus any suggestions would be great!

Unfortunately you can't install NAND Android as you can't install HSPL, however you can run SD Android. Just update to the latest stock ROM 3.14 via your SD card (search for a guide, something to do with downloading the package and renaming one of the files [I think RUU_Signed] to leoimg.nbh and flashing in bootloader). This will give you the required/compatible radio. Then just download an SD build, place it on the root of your SD card and run CLRCAD and HARET.
Thanks so much for the quick reply!
I have already tried this approach with Artemis_v370_0409_WWE rom, but the phone gets stuck at "Loading..." on a gray screen. I also downloaded RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship.exe but as you might guess it was of no use due to the broken usb. Do you have any idea where I can find a stock 3.14 rom that can be installed as a .nbh?
Cheers

Here I think the process is the same, a custom ROM such as Artemis won't work as it requires HSPL
Thanks! The guide provides a link for for an official rom only in the end when stating "So, assuming you have flashed an official ROM over 2.10 via the SD card and you decide you want a custom ROM, follow these simple directions:
(You do not have to have your phone connected to your PC for these steps)
Download the "Official" ROM from here."
Yet, my rom is only 1.48. Should I flash it anyway?

I don't think it matters, but courtesy of mskip's tutorial here you can see that you have to:
- Download a shipped Rom from *HERE*
- Rename the extension to .zip
- open it with winzip and extract the RUU_signed.nbh file to a folder
- Rename it to LEOIMG.nbh and copy it to the root of a microSD card thats been formatted to FAT32
- Insert your storage card into your phone
- Enter Bootloader and follow onscreen instructions to flash
Thanks big time!!!
Lastly, which rom should I download? I heard some nasty things about bricking your phone by installing 2.08 or >2.10 through the sd method, but I didn't quite understand it...

Neither do I but if you've read about those issues then best not to do that. Basically use any ROM with a .50 Radio (it'll be in the name of the ROM) and you will be able to use SD Android
i dont think so....
Well, in fact, I was able to install wm6.5 v3.14 after I contacted HTC and they told me I need a Czech rom (?! ). After that my radio was 2.15.50.xx and now I am able to boot perfectly any SD Android rom! That's what I call a transformation!
The only problem I encounter is with Skype on every rom - it crashes and the mic works improperly.
