[Q] Android not booting from SD card - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi Guy's, I'm totally new to trying to boot android fromSD on the Hd2. I have tried putting the Android folder from MDJ Froyo 4.6 onto the root of my SD card. I've run CLRCAD and haret. All get is the black screen with 'loading linux' (which remains stationary). I have left the phone for up half an hour and its still stationary an no Android. I,ve tried reformatting 2 cards. Help !!!

Hi ! You'd better change to an Android NAND Build, I'm currently using Android 2.2 NexusHD2 Froyo V1.9G Build on NAND, but I'm also using SD Android builds to test them..
So I never met problems when booting into Android.. but I'm using the latest Radio: 2.15.50.14 ..
By the way if you're booting into Android through CLRCAD & Haret, this means you're currently on WinMo 6.5, so it may be that your current WinMo 6.5 ROM is old, so try this one, if you're using European HD2, try to update your ROM to version 3.14.405.2, which is this one: http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=1043&news_id=782, but if you're using the T-Mobile US HD2, then try to update to ROM 3.14.531.1, which is this: http://dl.htc.com/ruudownload/t-mobileUS/DeviceDownloads.aspx?pid=leo2 ..
Your Radio Version may also be outdated, so that's why you can't load Android, which requires the newest versions of Radio to use... try the newest version 2.15.50.14.. which is this one: http://www.multiupload.com/QP0IWGY42F

Make sure you have radio 2.08.50.xx or higher.... what kind of HD2 do you have? Are you using a custom rom or stock rom.

did you install hspl3?
just like me i tried to install( when i was new)face this problem.
also if you have original rom installed get rid-of that find alternate best rom then try to install android .but b4 you do any things read carefully.

what size is your sd card? check if it doesn't get full at the boot. i had the same issue and it turned out that bigger sd card help.

If he has not HSPL... then he has not the good radio.
If he has the good radio... he has the good spl
What happen to one of my friend (can't remember if it was on HD or HD2) was an incompatible SD card. Try with another SD (if your radio is ok).

Stick with the sd version for now. Nand is still buggy and twice as difficult to install. Try nand when you get a little more knowledgeable.
So you tried 2 cards and formatted them both. Both cards are over 2GB?
As a couple members above mentioned you need a radio of 2.08.50 or above on your phone for android. EX: 2.10.50, 2.12.50, 2.14.50, or 2.15.50. To get the radio you either need to install rom 3.14 on your phone only if available for your regioned phone or install HSPL then 1 of those radios.

Thanks very much. I'll try and give it a go.

The ROM I'm using is a stock O2 UK ROM version 1.72.206.3, Radio version 2.07.51.22. I'd like to try using a cooked ROM, but I am going to have to read carefully how to flash as I've only done this once with the stock ROM. I will also try using a new sd card when i get a chance to go out and buy one. !! Thanks to everyone who has replied.

You have problem with the radio version. You have a .51 radio (ie 2.07.51.22) instead of the .50 radio (2.08.50.xx or higher .50). You will need to install HSPL 2.08.hspl and then flash a compatible radio. There's probably nothing wrong with your sd card, it's your radio version.

Bullsh1t!
NAND builds are no more or less buggy the SD builds and they are not "twice" as difficult to install at all.

[Q] HTC HD2 Android Boot Error (Black Screen)

Hello together,
i've got some problem with my htc hd2.
first a few facts:
my actual winmo rom is the cookie energy rom build 21916 (german)
my radio rom is 2.14.50.04
my hspl is 2.08 from cotulla
my android rom is mdeejay froyo v3.3 with hastarin 7.1
now the problem...
when i try to start android (first clrcad then haret) the boot loader shows a few lines. the last is "jumping to kernel"
then after a few seconds these lines vanish and there is black screen.
only way to reboot is to remove the battery.
i've got a 8gb san disk microsd...
before installing the winmo rom and android rom i erased my htc with task29 and formatted the microsd with fat32.
i also tried different winmo and android roms but theres always the same error...
plz help me
thanks
any suggestions?
I have the same problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I´m working on it for 2 weeks now!!!!!!!But i get no results!!!
I tested it with differet sd-cards, many ROM´s... no chance its everytime the same!!!!
Then i tested it on the HD2 from my brother! he has the same ROM, same Radio same HSPL...
and it works on evry of my SD Cards!!!!!!! WHYYY???
Please need Help!!!!!!!!!
PS: Wenn du das Problem gelöst hast bitte schreib mir!!!
boot error
Use the the chucky rom , I have no issues with this rom.
Does your windows mobile report 576MB memory in hardware information screen? Is it possible that you have a 320MB prototype/pre-release hd2s maybe? Normally all hd2s except pre-release models have 576MB physical ram. European models are capped at 448MB unless you update your radio and rom. But pre-release models will still have 320MB and unfortunately won't be able to boot android even if you edit android memory settings. (Cotulla says, even if you are able to run, it will be buggy and laggy)
Note: I am not talking about free memory. I am talking about the full memory reported in hardware information page in winmo.
My HD2 is from Vodafone and 3 month´s now. i hava a gotrip ROM (5.9) on it now with 546 RAM.
The older Android builds worked for a while!!!
same problem
HELLLLLP!!! I really want to try this out but it seems that my HD2 won't load it. i'm running energy rom and I've flashed android on this phone before. I've hard reseted my phone as well as reformated my SDcard but when every I go to launch harret, the linux screen pops up and the lettering (about two lines with no penguin logo) changes to a pinkish color and the next screen is a white screen with HTC on it. I don't know what to do. and now it seems I cant load any version of Android on it.
im having the problems as you people
but the thing with me is that, andriod use to boot but later on when i installed the stock rom and went back to the energy rom it just wont boot :'(

i got my andriod to work
this is how i did it ...
1) make sure you format your SD card using this software www(dot)sdcard(dot)org/consumers/formatter/sdfv2000(dot)zip and make sure its NOT a quick format
2) make sure your radio is around Leo_RADIO_2.12.50.02_2
3) follow this guide www(dot)forum(dot)xda-developers(dot)com/showthread(dot)php?t=732380
(replace the "(dot)" with "." for the URL to work)
hope this help ( by the way i was writing this whilst booting my andriod and it works =) )

alias_scg, what Radio + ROM did you use to fix it?
I've been having this problem over 3 weeks and I finally found the post with similar behavior with my HD2.
Now, I'll try 2.12.50.02_2 meanwhile for mdeejay.
I'd been using all suggested ROM and Radio from those chef's original posts, though.
I also got this weird problem... having stock rom/radio whatever.. just got the phone yesterday... but will try a other rom+radio etc. and see if that works
EDIT:
Ok guys i also got this fixed...
I upgraded my radio + rom and then it worked all fine!
HELP!
I am having the exact same problem as the rest of you's,
has anyone managed to find a fix.
My rom is still the official telstra rom, so maybe thats the problem ?

Can't install any Android ROM

Hi, I tried searching and I can't seem to find anything that helps. I followed all the instructions to install Android on my 1024LEO TMOUS and something just doesn't seem to be working. Regardless of the ROM, during first boot it goes through everything it has to go through and then gets stuck on either a black or a white screen with that has the HTC logo on it. I tried using a different WMo ROM and a different radio with no success. I also tried a different MicroSD card with no success. If I pull the battery and restart, it once again will get stuck at the same screen. Any ideas?
Check your Radio
i suggest Radio_2_14_50_04

Installed that radio, formatted my memory card, entered a new Android installation process. Everything went smooth up until a black screen with the htc logo popped up yet again. Any other ideas?
I would actually flash the original t-mo package. This will flash the rom, radio, and spl back to factory. Its the same process as flashing radios and everything else. You just gotta find the package online.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From there or skipping the above i would format the sdcard using a full format and fat32 and copy your android folder to it. I recommend using hyperdroid 1.6
then Flash a hspl or hard spl
Next I would flash VBNDroidRC3 if you do not plan on using windows mobile. If you still want to use windows mobile skip this step.
Now you should flash a new radio. I recommend 2.12.50.02_2
Now before you attempt to boot android for the first time reset your phone. Power it off. Hold both vol up and vol down while pressing power. then press up to reset as the screen says, then vol up again to restart.
Video will look funky on first boot while booting. Once booted video will be normal. First boot can take up to 20 minutes for some people.
Just out of interest how long are you leavning the HTC logo screen there for? First boot can take a long time as it creates the data store (cache) for android to use and depending on the build and how fast your memory card is (class 4 for example) can take anywhere up to 20 mins in some cases to create.

I long did you wait after the HTC blackscreen popped up? Some build requires a minimum of 5-10 minutes, yet other requires 15-20 minutes.
Just did a full reformat, loaded HyperDroid V1.6 onto the memory card, started the installation process, and left for 35 minutes. Came back to a black screen with the htc logo on it.
My ROM is: |WWE|TMO Leo|¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.- Energy -.¸¸.·´¯ | 21916 | 23138 |`·.¸¸.·´¯ Sense 2018 ¯)
Radio Version: 2.14.50.04 and I tried it with 2 other radio versions.
I used HSPL3 to flash the phone to SPL-2.08.HSPL.
I also tried using Chucky ROM and ended up with the exact same results. Starting to feel hopeless here
Try using HSPL2 instead and change your SPL-2.08.HSPL to 2.08.0000.
Then apply the official t-mobile update rom here: http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm54430.xml?
Then use HSPL2 and flash a hard SPL again. Then your wm rom, then radio, then run android for the first time.
Also do a full format of your memory card. not a quick format

The HSPL3 could be your problem. I'm also running EnergyRom but with radio 2.12 and HSPL2. Everything runs great on my end.
Try using HSPL2 instead of HSPL3.

idk, that may be possible there, but im using HSPL3 with standard energy and 2.12.50 and all roms install.
Okay, so I installed the original T-Mobile US ROM. This made my SLP version 2.10.0000. I downgraded it to 2.08.0000 using HSLP3. Then I used HSLP2 to flash it to 2.08.HSLP. I flashed the Energy ROM and 2.12.50.02_2 radio. Tried to install a different Android ROM and it froze yet again at the HTC screen. I waited for about half an hour and pulled the battery. Only difference that I noticed now is that while the HTC screen was on, a green LED was flashing every few seconds. Windows Mobile works flawlessly though... I'm not giving up yet but I'm pretty close to it
I'm having the same issue after switching from the 16GB SD card that came with the HD2 to a 8GB class 4 card I had at home. Seems like something to do with the SD card imo. Any thoughts? I've tried a full format and the card appears to be working fine.

I think he is onto something. Consider this:
Windows mobile works fine, all the flashing works fine. Try another sdcard and see if that works. Also I suggest you call t-mobile and request another sdcard. T-mobile admits that they were having issues with their sdcards not saving data or the phone having issues detecting them. Call them and say your memory card sometimes doesnt show as being detected and they should issue you a replacement card.

u still having problems what does ur startup text say...................

Picked up a new SD card today, attempted to install a build that would previously get hung up on the black screen that said htc on it (NexusHD2) and as usual it ended up getting stuck at the very same screen again. I should point out though that I was able to get FroyoStone build working without any issues. I figured I'd screw around with the kernels and I ended up replacing the zImage used in the NexusHD2 build with the one used in FroyoStone build. It booted up! I got it running on my phone right now. I have yet to try this tactic out on other builds but for now I'll have to guess that this issue appears to be related to the kernel.
I can confirm that this issue was related to the kernel. Just had success installing HyperDroid 1.7 using the zImage from FroyoStone. Thank you to everybody who contributed. Hope this thread might be of assistance to someone in the future.
I've also had the HTC logo problem with starting Android. I've tried everything suggested but the only thing that helped and worked was formatting SD card with phone. I'm using Artemis WinMo ROM and it has an utility for SD card formatting. After I had formatted my SD card with that utility I've finally managed to start Android with any problems at all.

[Q] Boot Failure Black Screen Green HTC

Hi, this is my first post on this forum so first of all I would like to appolagise for all the things I've either just done wrong, or am about too....
I am trying to install android on to my phone, I am on the stock rom but have succsesfully installed HSPL3 and radio version 2.11.50.20.
I have tried a few builds of Android but allways have one of 2 results.
Once I've run clrcad followed by harlet, it tells me I'm booting to linux. The screen then goes black, it runs about 8 lines of code, stops there and changes to a black screen with a green HTC. Where it remains indefinatly.
A friend with anouther HD2 has android working fine on his device, and altho he has a custom rom he tells me its not essential, as ive read up on the potential risks I would rather stick with the stock but will change if thats whats causing the problem.
I would really appreciate some suggestions, thanks in advance for your time and help.
Peter
forgot to add, the second result is the screen going blue indefinatly, which I presume from my extensive knowledge.........lol is a blue screen of death
upgrade your radio, im on 2.12.50, and the newest is 2.15.50
also, try a modded windows mobile rom, i use standard energy with no issues.
also, make sure you only have that one android build on your SD card. and that it's a new build, not an ancient one. (check http://android.hd2roms.com/)
you shouldnt have any more issues.
Thanks for the advice, unfortunatly before seeing your post I uprgraded too chuckeys rom, not energy, but get the exact same error... Leads me to beleive the problem is elsewhere. Will keep trying tho hope its worth it.
Jai meme problme mon rom est miri hd2 v_18.0 wwe ? Radio 2.15.50.14 ?
Same problem here, tried to change my wm rom and didn't work. I'm looking tonight if I can find a solution...
A little disclaimer
I will not be for any damage that may be caused to your device, HSPL remove warranty so be carefull. Don't forget to have more than 50% of battery remaining before the process !
So, maybe here is the solution:
I've try again with differents roms, changing my wm rom etc. and nothing works.
But, at the end I've change my radio rom to Leo_RADIO_2.12.50.02_2 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
Then installed Chucky GTX Lite rom found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618787
And to finish I've installed the bootloader and download MDJFroYoRevolution 1.4 with android 2.2
I've use the 512 Data img too (just unzip your MDJFroYoRevolution, take the 512 or 1Go file and put this file on your Android root.) isn't necessary but takes less time to work first time.
After that still not working so I managed to try to remove all files from my sd card (2Go only) and I put on ONLY MDJFroYoRevolution 1.4+512Mo Data img !
Then after 10mn~ it works !
I think the bug is only because sd card haven't enough space to create all files so the HTC logo stuck and no error message appear.
Don't forget to install the bootloader on your memory internal storage! and not the on the sd card!
Good luck everyone and I hope it will help.
ps: sorry for my english hope you understand anything
Having the same problem here. I've tried different versions of WM, different Android builds, updated the latest radio rom, all without success.
Strange thing is though that Android boots the first few times, but after resetting it more than about three times it gets stuck on the black screen with the HTC letters in the middle. The only way to get it running again is reformatting my SD card (8G). Only thing on it is the Mdeejay Froyo Sense v2.3 Clean...
Solution for the freeze screen after second boot
I put android not in the root directory but in a \Android directory on the SD CARD.
of course, I add set cmdline "rel_path=Android" in the Startup.txt file and now i can reboot my phone when i want.

Not true. I've installed on a couple of peoples HD2's using the latest stock WWE rom with radio 2.15. It does work, and it works very well.
I'm not saying you shouldn't use custom roms, that is everyone's prerogative (as you can see from my sig I use VBN's rom and it's perfect for me).
Try to move a folder called Android from sd card to another folder or delete it and it should help. It worked in my case. Good luck!
has someone hear find an answer?

[Q] HTC Stock ROM 3.14, SPL 3.03 - is NAND Android possible?

Hi, aftet two days of reading the xda-forum and unsuccesful try to install NAND version on my HD2, i'm asking this simple question.
My LEO is with stock ROM 3.14, SPL 3.0.3, radio 2.15.xx.xx.
I understood that it can be installed SD Android version, but i preffer faster NAND version.
Is that possible or it will be when HSPL for this SPL is availible?
Thank you!
You need to downgrade your SPL version in order to install HSPL2.08, and to do this you must flash an earlier stock ROM.
Look in the Android WM Development forum for a stock 1.66 ROM for your handset and flash that. You can then flash HSPL2.08 and then finally Magldr and Android.
There's plenty to do, but it's straight forward enough. Just make sure to read up on what you're doing first and it'll be no problem.
Thank you
Thank you for your advice, i'll try it and i'll push hard to do this, i'm former Desire and Galaxy S user, but with my own eyes i see that the Desire is faster then Galaxy, and the HD2 with Android /Nand/ is faster and smoother than both of them.

if you want nand only for speed, then try the ram builds on sd card..(eg: superram by darkstone )they are faster than nand...this way, you dont need to flash anything...no need to downgrade, no need to hspl...........just copy the android folder to your sd and voila..

just to give you some insight, I have the same stock setup as is you, and I'm using darkstone sense v0.1 and its great, fast, stable and everything working very well.. you have to try it, don't forget to use an autoboot application to achieve a reasonable battery life..

I had 3.14 based GTX 2.5 Elegancia ROM, Radio 2.15.50.14 and everything worked just right to get NAND on my HD2.
When you say 1.66ROM I am not sure if you are referring to Radio or ROM version.
Instructions on NAND for newbs thread says:
Radio 2.15.50.14 recommendable!!!
HSPL3 package can be used to downgrade to HSPL 2.08 HSPL (do not choose 2.08.0000 - but 2.08 HSPL ...
Note: Stock HD2 should have 2.10.0000 (stock);
Anyhow, it worked perfect so I think you should be good as long as your HSPL is downgraded to 2.08 version ... FYI - when you download HSPL file is titled HSPL3_package.rar ... this means HSPL version is 3 but you want to run it and set it up on 2.08 and than flash it onto your phone.
hopefully I didn confuse you too much

you probably have tmous hd2 and hence your spl is 2.10...for non-tmous hd2 the new stock 3.14 official rom has a spl3.03, which is not compatible with hspl...that is why john has suggested to roll back to an earlier stock rom (nontmous rom versions are older and different (1.48,1.72,1.66 etc)than tmous stock roms (2.x, 2.1x etc))
Hi
I'm starting a new thread.

ha ha ha...ok...so simple answer....no, you cannot install nand android on 3.14 rom with spl3.03, because you need magldr...(and hspl for magldr).....and hspl is not compatible with 3.03spl. and there is no idea if and when a new hspl will be available..
...so the only option for you if you want nand android, is to flash an older stock rom to downgrade your spl to less than 2.10 (1.42,1.66,2.08,2.10 etc)and only then can you install hspl without problems...and then flash a radio more than 2.08,( preferably 2.15)...then flash magldr, then flash android nand rom........got it??
it is not difficult if you have all those files ready...each flash takes 2 to 10 minutes maximum...so in total, within 30 minutes, you can have android
(you dont need any of these steps if you can use a sd/ram build )
make sure you roll back flash to the stock rom specific for your region.(.important!)
SD card android possible over 3.14 winmo ROM?

Yes you can run Android from SD if you have a 3.14 ROM. It is the radio that is important really when running Android from SD. You will want to check the thread of the build you want to use to see if it is a radio version suggested by the dev of the build. The radio right radio can keep you from having robot voices and some other stuff too. Check below fow instructions on how to install.

All you need to do is download the build of your choice and then unzip the contents of the zip file to a folder named Android. Some builds create a folder named Android and puts all file sin it when you unzip it so check and see if that is the case with the build you are going to use. Once you have the files extracted to the Android folder just copy the Android folder to the root of your SD card. Then use file explorer to navigate to the Android folder and open it. then touch on CLCAD first, this just enables the sound in Android but it will look like it did nothing, this is normal. Next touch on HARET and you will see a box pop up that says booting lenuix with a progress bar in it. Just let the build boot up from there, the first boot may take up to 5 to 10 minutes as it has to create a good bit of files for the Android. Also make sure to boot your Android build this way the first time then you can start using the a dual boot app. And make a backup of your SD card before you first boot Android so you can have a way to know what was on it before you used Android.
You do not have to have HSPL to run Android from SD card. And SPL has nothing to do with running Android from SD card.
Thank u T-Macgnolia and appreciate your reply. I will try this and publish here the result.
It worked.... tqsm

Hi mate, I use SD American Android and it works well.
You should have SPL 2.08 HSPL
You need Radio 2.15.xx
And you need a custom rom that is compatible. As a reference, I use platinum series custom wm rom (check my sig below)
Reformat your micro sd with fat32. Dont put any files on there, except the Android files in the root of your sd card.
Dont forget to change the gps zone in the "Startup.cfg" to your location/country code
Leave it booting for 30 minutes..
I also thought that it wouldn boot, after almost 30 minutes it booted...
Dont give up mate

You do not have to have HSPL to run Android from SD card, HSPL is only needed if you are going to flash a custom Win Mo ROM, a stock Win Mo ROM that os not for your HD2, MAGLDR, cLK, or if you are going to run a Task 29. I ran three different Android SD builds before going NAND and never had HSPL on my HD2 until I got ready to flash MAGLDR.
Also you do not have to flash a custom ROM to run Android. You just want to have a 3.14 Win Mo ROM be it stock or custom. what matters is that ot is a 3.14 ROM. I ran all three Android SD card builds on a completely stock 3.14 ROM and never had any problems with them, except data drops which are just because they are SD builds.
Oh and by they way I accidently hit your thanks button trying to hit quote. lol
