Wondering if their has been any talk or work of this rom coming to our phone?

Probably never since it doesn't appear bootloader will ever be unlocked.

Just use a launcher with a good AOSP theme. You will keep all the useful Samsung features, keep the superior signal, keep the stability and superior camera but have the look you want.

I see you post this a lot on here, and this couldn't be further from the truth. While I don't doubt you may have experienced this on your devices, in your service area, this isn't the case everywhere.
I'd go so far as to say most of the time, in my area, my vanilla devices hold a better signal than my Note 3 on touchwiz so please stop trying to spread this like its fact

It's just not the same. There are several places that I visit regularly and have for years. One is a buddies shop in BFE I was going to every weekend this summer.
His Motorola Razr Maxx would get usable 3g data my stock Samsung GS3 would get 1xRtt data with sporadic unusable data. I switched to a AOSP/CM based rom and the next time I visited, nothing, zero, nada. So it's not like i am comparing number of graphical bars to each other. I would actually try to use it and the difference was night and day.
Another location is our local Meijers store. On AOSP, twenty feet into the building I got nothing, on TW stock I would get at least a marginal 1xRtt data stream.
Repeated multiple locations, time and time again, not judging by bars, judging by actual usability. AOSP will lose every time, same phone, same apps, just the difference between AOSP and TW. It's as unbiased as I can be......
Yes I agree, every location and device will behave differently but I spent a lot of time researching it and a developer basically told me AOSP has to use a different RIL than TW. (I think that's what it was). Basically it's because Samsung won't give up the proprietary code and it's not open source because it is code that makes the hardware be able to interface with the software(in the most basic explanation). So the AOSP guys do their best to make it work, but through the last several iterations I haven't seen it get as good as TW on a Samsung phone.

That's -4dBm difference, which is pretty much the same. I'd rather have TW frameworks with industry leading ServiceMode or Engineering menu, than no ability to control my modem, Band Selection, RAT, etc. Seriously...

Exactly why I posted, if the signal on tw is so superior then why isnt it much better on my note 3 was all I was saying.. I dont see a difference in my service area between the two and if it is its always negligible, and usually my vanilla device reports lower dbm, again in my area.. your options preferences have nothing to do with what we were talking about regarding signal quality between cm/tw or maybe I read your post wrong..

Your signal may be "reported" differently on CM ROMs, but that doesn't mean that your actual radio frequency reception is "better".
There are so many different algorithms and variables determining what you actually see on the screen, and I'd rather go with Qualcomm's proprietary closed source, signed and licensed version than generic counterpart, but again that's just me, and I'm not saying it's better or worse.
Unless one Note 3 was a lemon and has worse RF characteristics due to poor quality control...

About to purchase a used Galaxy S I9000

Sirs,
How are you all doing? this is my very first post and I decided to ride dirty with the android OS finally (I'm late..) Originally coming from that dead Symbian OS environment.. I love customization and everything related to tinkering the phones hardware and software..
So now I am about to buy a used galaxy S I9000, I just want to know what are the things to look for this used android unit? I can see it's just slightly used so what will I look for aside from the outside appearance? How about in the software itself?
I only know that the phone is on GB 2.3.3 I think and it has like a custom way of killing apps, launching..really it's my first time on android and I need professional advises and this is the best site to ask from, I know.

How do you want to use your phone?
In my opinion, this device is a disappointment for normal, everyday basic use.
If you really want android ride on SGS, keep yourself ready for be here on xda regularly for help (you tasted it already)and hacks,be ready to root your phone and be ready to reboot your phone n number of times(sometime it does auto ) and be ready to get a mixed feeling, sometime it makes you happy and sometimes you would like to throw it away.
Its my opinion based on use, not intended for anything else.

Unless you're installing the latest beta ROMs or custom ROMs, this phone is actually very stable and reliable for day to day use. And the UI is fast and responsive enough on 2.3.3. In any case, in terms of reliability and speed, the SGS is miles ahead of any Symbian device.
Wtf???
Mate. He said he likes to customize.
I have nothing but good things to say about my phone. Gps is accurate and always has been. I knocked back an sgs2 upgrade to wait for next nexus.
Check pixels and speaker.
Check Gps accuracy in maps.
Usb connects and check for 3 button combo to recovery/download mode.
Good luck and enjoy.

Guys,
My use of phone dialer, messaging and call logs comes under basic use.
And dialer lags, contacts gives message 'no additional info available' and then shows number.no matter which rom you use.
Even dialer removed from memory.
I have 2 phones in house one running stock 2.3.3 and one 2.3.5 so I am not imagining anything.
Dont reboot phone for a week and see what happens.
If it was all that good, all the ram tweaks, kernel tweaks, optimization tweaks, wouldn't even exists.
If your expr. & opinion differs post it.

wow thanks! a lot of tips already! my appreciation to you guys,
well i want my phone for calls, sms, internet, productive apps, some graphically good games?, storage for photos(bought a 16GB microSD yesterday for this phone, excited am I?) videos-movies perhaps? some noobie photography (BTW I love that touch to focus feature!)
I guess I'm more into content, really LOL
Again thanks!
PS how to enter to download mode?
I'll try first dealing with the stock roms, is there any 2.3.7 GB for galaxy cause I see it everywhere along with the CM7? is that an official firmware or CM7 based on that OEM firmware? maybe when I want more, that's the time I'll do a CM7 flash..what about skype video calling or google talk? is it good in this phone?

I will be using this phone for everyday use, k?
Another important thing to look for: if it enters Download Mode [Vol Down + Home + Power]
If not, it can be fixed, but it involves a little risk. This would be the only risky thing you'll do software wise, after your Download Mode works, it's very hard to brick the phone.

2.3.7 was a Nexus upgrade that added things like NFC, which most phones do not have the hardware to support this. CM7 uses Nexus source code. I don't believe anything helpful for you was added/changed.
And try not to believe the crap these people are spewing. My contacts, diallers, and whatever else that guy was rambling about are just fine. And obviously that is not a problem across all ROMs, considering most ROMs use different apps (for example, Samsung apps aren't run on AOSP ROMs—and I haven't seen this problem on either).
Good luck! It's an exciting phone.
wow, thanks to all of your advices dudes! what would be a good protector for this phone aside from the screen guards?

Gripe

What is the purpose of owning a nexus device on a cdma network? I am so tired of google and networks in so many ways. I thought the purpose of owning a nexus device was that I would receive update directly from google. I own a nexus 4 g and a motorola zoom lte and have not received an update in over 4 months. I really hope for google sake there is some improvement in the future with updates of nexus devices.

if you're on xda, I'd expect that you're running a custom ROM and not stock. if that's not the case, i fail to see why you're on xda asking this, and not on a Sprint forum or Google forum instead voicing your gripe.

I'm stock rooted still on GB. I'm not into roms necessarily only reason I root is for wifi tether and titanium backup. Or maybe removing or freezing apps but it doesn't matter on a nexus device. Bottom line is that GS2 and vivid GSM models have gotten updates before my nexus. All I'm saying is CDMA networks do not push updates for nexus devices as they should and google obviously can't provide updates in a timely manor for these devices either. This is a problem with google plus the cdma networks.

ahh ok,I can respect that. Much more than all the other threads on here complaining about not getting the update, yours is more based on the CDMA networks which is the source of the problem for what you're referring to.
That's why I came here cdma updates can be few and far between at times.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
There isn't a reason really. With an htc device for example you get aosp like cyanogen plus you get sense if you want it. I had both options on my evo shift. No one really knew the cdma nexus experience didn't really mean **** until recently since this was the first cdma nexus.
The good thing about this is that now i have opened myself up to more options for my next phone like the htc one or gs3 where up until about January i was only ever going to get nexus phones even though they are usually lacking in something like the camera, fm radio, no sd slot or whatever. And it doesn't matter since updates won't cone any faster and the wonderful devs keep us up to date.
the files for the cdma radio are proprietary, google has to wait for the networks to provide them. googles part is done and available. they even came said a few months ago that cdma nexii arent considered developer phones anymore, just for that reason. its the cdma networks that you should let know how you feel.
im on 2.3.7, it aint broke so im in no hurry to fix it. when i get an official update then ill update. i dont see what the big deal is
I am a very happy CDMA Nexus S owner. I've been rocking 4.0.4 on my NS4G since this morning, I'm not sure what people are complaining about. Yes, we all thought that since we have Nexus devices we'd get personal invites from Goog to test out their new OS. Turns out this is not true, stupid us for thinking that. But in the end what's the difference? As soon as the update is in AOSP our awesome devs have it ready for us to crackflash. These complaint threads are getting old, when did XDA turn into Facebook?

Because the purpose of purchasing a nexus is not have to wait for the latest software plus have a pure google experience. If I need to flash software that's been out for 4 months like 4.0.3 this is an obvious fail for the nexus program.

They don't. That's one of the limitations discussed if you would have bothered to read, for example, the Wired article. http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2012/06/army-data-network-war/all/.
Drones send data to their mobile HQ which then updates the data on soldiers' phones. They have 'barely' enough bandwidth to update icons on a map in real time.
On the upside, no phone capability, no 3G, BT or wifi probably does wonders for the battery life.

Yeah, Thanks for the condescending tone but I DID read a number of articles on WIN-T.
OK, near-realtime. Did you read the whole "relay smartphone data from radio to radio" for the distribution of data to troops in close proximity part? Seems a little stupid considering they are using smartphones to do it and I believe this will be revised in future devices.
With regards to the bandwidth issue, as stated in the article you have linked to, it uses provisos like "harder to do" and "might". Again, I believe changes to reliably provide this functionality are already planned for future devices. Its not news to point out that the US relies on full motion video as a media tool to "win hearts and minds" back home.
With real 4G networks easily providing enough bandwidth to make all this functionality a reality, it would seem that the Atrix will probably only last as long as it take to R+D/field test its successor.
But I, like yourself, would be interested to find out how long the battery lasts with it being used as a weaponised pda.

Does an Atrix even have the hardware to receive satellite signals? Without being plugged into another device.
Snark in your post produces condescending reply, cause and effect.
The reason the only real time information they get are icons on a map is that they are trying to salvage something out of this fiasco -> http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2012/06/how-to-blow-6-billion-on-a-tech-project/ Hence, I'm assuming wave forms that are 2G level. In combat environment having mobile HQ pre-digest the info might not be a bad thing. It is a bad thing that there does not appear to be any peer-to-peer capability. If your TOC gets taken out you seem to be left with an iPod to crank some tunes out of.
Re: full motion, I think you're confusing data coming into TOC with data coming out. Unless you're thinking about some translating/coms app that was mention few months ago. That sounded like a bunch of QuickTime events stored on the phone, iirc.
It's all speculation until someone with hands on experience comments. But, it does seem like the system is very limited in the short-mid term.
AFAIK, there's no way to pickup satellite radio with mobile phone hardware, the antenna design is radically different.

I've owned Android since the good old days of the Google G1.
I don't think I've seen 1 version of CM that ran perfectly, no ROM was ever 'finished'.... so I'll be staying away from them from now on.
I'm actually probably NOT going to root my Note 3, can't see what I need to root it for tbh.

My first was the original galaxy i7500 but my cm experience was on the milestone 2 then g2x.
I really like cm when a device is no longer supported by their respective companies.
When I had the nexus 4, I used the latest cm 10.2 nightlies because to me the stock AOSP was lacking a few functions.
The note 3 has its own set of functions that I don't think we will ever see on CM.
However, would be very nice to have a dual booting system so I could flip flop between the two.

One the biggest reasons for getting the 9005 was because I wanted to stick with a SOC that is easier for devs to work with.
Especially about a year from now when Sammy releases the note 5 and forgets about the note 3, we can at least update to the latest Android with CM

I kinda feel the same, I bought a few apps recently because it's not rooted. and these apps I'm happy to support because I use them on a daily baisis, like business calendar, poweramp, mx player etc. but I do find root useful for ntfs micro sdcard, especially when a file is bigger than 10GBs.
but what I really liked about a custom rom was editing minor things, having 8 icons along the screen horizontally. instead of what right now, 4? also all apps are HUGE dpi. I feel like when I load my mail. every mother fcker can read it from 5 metres away from me lol..
Ill Probably try it but wont stay with it. Lately on my s4 ive been preferring modded TW roms and will probably continue that with the N3

I don't want to even see Samsung's bloatware ever again.
I'm done with rooting and adding ROMs. I've rooted just about every phone I've owned, and they've never ran 100%. Something always had an issue and not running properly. Today's phone are almost perfect anyway. The Note 3 is bad ass just the way it is! If I do anything to it, it's maybe using Themer to give it a fresh look, but that's it?

I have been pretty impressed with the performance of the GN3 even after rooting. I am also using the s-pen functionality a lot more than i anticipated. I doubt there is any need to go the CM route.
A little off point, but someone mentioned they hadnt rooted yet. I had gone a week without rooting and was fine, but i had to root for tethering (havent installed an app yet though). So far, i have also included quite a bit of additional apps for the Pen Window - VERY handy.
I just need a ROM that will allow tethering.

what are these features?
I really hope Samsung implements LG KnockOn gesture though... to save me from pressing the hardware buttons again and again
Maybe a stupid question, but why are we not seeing any AOSP roms at this time ? With other devices they appeared much faster. Dont get me wrong, no trolling on ETA. Cant wait to see this beast (snapdragon 800) run stock android
I'm just waiting to be able to root my phone without voiding its warranty due to KNOX :/

multi window, pen window, air view, S note to name a few. And I generally like the look of touchwiz as well.

hmm does multi-window work with all apps?
hmm I do like Air Command though.
never used/tried S Note or Scrapbooker

Just switched from the m8

Not sure if I'm going to root yet as I'm still trying to get used to this phone. So far it seems ok.

Rooting will not change the phone experience in any way... Swapping ROMs improve it though.
Welcome to the Note 4, I'm sure you'll love it!
Let us know how your experience goes.
I really love my Note 4. I am currently running Infamous ROM 2.8 and the performance is incredible. It blows the stock ROM out of the water.
Welcome to a real camera
I'm in a similar situation. Came from using a nexus 4. Not sure if I want to root or which Samsung apps people tend to turn off and which they find useful. Fun stuff though. I think I'm gonna wait for lollipop update and decide then.

Go a week or more and then decide which apps you'd like to freeze or leave alone.
Should be enough time to get a feel for it and decide which apps you like.
I would like to know if there is any way to get the voice activation on Google now to work while S-voice is on

Oh, but it will.. And it does. Rooting alone allows you to do most of the things you can do on a custom ROM, but you're doing it to the stock ROM. Even without a custom recovery, you can still modify system files, freeze/uninstall system apps, run root apps, etc.

Oh I know that, but I meant rooting alone does not degrade the experience. As you rightfully said, the experience can be improved drastically while rooted even on stock firmware.
Cheers ?

Take a look around the Q&A and General sections. Most questions you have, already have been asked

i also have an upgrade available but im not sure if i should use it on the note 4. it is tempting but in a few months the m9 will be here along with other s810 processor based devices. Plus i hear the n4s battery life isnt that great.

I would definitely root and flash a ROM asap. Stock rom is ok but any of the TouchWiz ROM for T Mobile will flat out just feel snappier.
Played with a n4 at bestbuy today. Lagged like hell for me. Even the samsung rep saw it. To say the least i walked away.

Welcome to the majors op. You'll love it. I had an m8 before. The freedom of having an unlocked bootloader, root, and plenty custom roms got me away from HTC, as well.
No more having to s-off and the firewater exploits being closed and lack of roms.

Where did you hear that the battery life isn't good?
I typically get 2.5 days per full charge with between 4.5 and 6 hours of screen on time per charge depending on if I am reading, or doing media (games, youtube).
If anything I would wait for the Note 5, but that will be a while. I'd suggest getting the Note 4 because it's quite simply a very amazing beast of a phone and then using JUMP to upgrade in 6 months if you so desire.

Compared to the process of rooting a htc how difficult is it to root the note 4
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
It's way easier to root the note 4:
You're in in 5.
Here are the instructions:

Had to do one at my parents house.
It took me 10 minutes because I was downloading a rom, at the same time, and my parents internet sucks.
