hi guys. i've been using g2 for 1 month, and i noticed that low light performance of the camera is awlful. worse than any other phone i had.
today after 30 photos, none of them was good enough and i decided to look about root and a camera fix. but i saw in jishnu thread that camera was fixed in the latest update. what update was that? a lg update or android update?
i am using Brazilian d805 variant with stock firmware D80510b-SCA-XXX.
There is no official update. You have to root. And install recovery for easy install.

There was some mention of improved camera in mja, is this just a new camera apk or has the camera firmware been updated as well? And could this be done if you are on aosp ROM?

The camare firmware has been updated. And what do you mean can it be done if your on an aosp rom
I mean is there any way to the camera firmware update while I'm on aosp rom, or do I have to flash to mja to do camera firmware update

I don't think touchwiz camera is compatible with aosp.

No almost impossible.

So, getting the stock MJA camera and launching it can't update the firmware? Is there a service installed in stock MJA that assists with this process, or what?
Indeed.
The bane of AOSP Roms has long been the lack of fully functional/fully featured Camera/Camcorder apps. The typical reason for this is that the phone manufacturers (Samsung, HTC, LG, whoever) don't release the full software and firmware behind them.
Most of the cameras on modern smartphones are, obviously, specialty parts with custom firmware and software, and in some cases chipsets, supporting them. Not having the full OEM drivers, firmware, and camera software hence means that AOSP developers have to come up with viable working solutions themselves using available drivers and stock apps, which in most cases will mean slightly less functionality or quality.
Hope this helps.
camera jb+ from the playstore works for me, it's fast and simple to use, not a ton of customization but it lets you choose storage location and it comes with it's own gallery. no voice activarion tough but that's okay for me. I like it because is simple.

I'm too lazy to backup & unroot & back to stock to get 1.7mb of OTA... Should I just ignore this one?
It seems to be trivial enough.. 1.7mb?

I am, At least until I see reports of the N7 shooting flames out of its tail pipes and burning rubber from the new update.
4.4.2 alraedy?
I just got 4.4.2 update download as well, didn't even receive the 4.4.1 notice yet. Won't install for now, will wait for Franco kernel to be updated as well as bionic/dalvik patches.

Haven't even gotten 4.4.1 yet, still on 4.4. What's the speed of this rolling out. I know it's based on serial numbers, but folks already getting 4.4.2 while some of us haven't even gotten 4.4.1.
Has anyone tried OTA Survival Mode yet with recent (1.55 and above if I am correct) SuperSu Pro? I read about succesful updates from 4.3 to 4.4 and 4.4 to 4.4.1 with our device while keeping root, but also about soft-bricked devices. Would make life easier if it works because I have stock recovery and wouldn't need to temporaryly adb load TWRP via Usb every time after OTA to reroot.

I never saw 4.4.1 but 4.4.2 is installing right now. First I was aware that there was a 4.4.2.
I got it OTA. No difference at all. Except the keyboard noise now sounds like a kids toy.
Edit: After using it a bit I think video performance is a lot better, seems more stable. And YouTube now works properly for me.
just got mine it was 58mb
(i didn't receive the 4.4.1 ota update)
I finally decided to drop my beloved galaxy nexus. The N5 seemed like the next phone of my dreams but couldn't stand the thought of losing my unlimited plan so G2 seemed like the next logical choice. I have been reading as much as I can and still having a hard time wrapping my head around things. Here is where I am at:
Bought phone from swappa appeared to be in new condition as advertised with plastic still on the phone.
Not sure if the phone was updated ota by the seller but the software and baseband were 12b out the box not rooted.
I rooted successfully with latest I0root method.
Installed loki patched twrp 2.6.3.3 successfully via freegee method. Full nand backup of rooted stock. Backed up imie with freegee and imie and other partitions via flashable zip method.
So where do I go from here? Is it safe to flash any VS980 rom from this point?

I have yet to install a custom rom or I could let you know. I have however upgraded to philz recovery and successfully installed dorimanx kernels. Got a little busy messing with exposed modules as well. I wanted to make sure I have all my essentials backed up before messing with roms and have the appropriate files and drivers working in case something goes wrong. I tried to install malladus yesterday and the install failed but I want to say the download was bad as it took forever. I had no issues with restore. I'll report back if I have any luck.

If you want some KitKat love, try out Mahdi ROM with the latest furnace kernel. Very very stable on my vs980.
Sent from my LG-VS980 using Tapatalk
You've bought the right device, aside from some unreleased phone of course. I too came from the gnex and I love this thing. Go install some AOSP ROM and it will be like you never left the gnex. (Although admittedly not as stable YET). With KK just being released by LG, all roms should get better. Anyways, enjoy a camera that works all the time not just when it is super bright and a battery that is equal to 3x of the galaxy nexus.

Thanks for the input. I installed AICP latest ROM last night with no issues. Feels amazing with no scroll lag compared to stock. Only thing I miss is knock off but hey you can't have it all. Gonna give furnace a go later.

so i saw that new update for F320L so any body knows what is it ?

Does any one have a link or know of the latest ota stock room that has been rooted? I've searched and can't find anything. Most of the lollipop roms are unusable from lag. Thank you.

I think you will not find a rooted OTA. Take the factory image from Google and flash SuperSU from Chainfire ... what's the problem?

Just seems like every rom I've tried on lollipop is horrible with lag, my daughter has the ota and its not laggy at all. So i wanted to try a stock rooted version, as far as finding the factory image i don't know it it will work.
