[Q] G2 Battery shelf life (Want to buy G2) - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hy guys. My 1st post and what a noob question. haha
well long story short i have never had a phone with sealed battery +Lg phone because of there reputation in India.
So you ca understand my hesitation to go ahead with G2-
I have 2 questions-
1. wait for S5 or go ahead with LG G2?
2. And do you think LG battery will last me one year?

1. Entirely up to you. Do you want 2K or are you happy with 1080p.
2. The battery will in likelihood last more than 1 year, with some degradation over its life.

[Q] Poor battery life with replacement LG G2

When I first got my LG G2 phone, I was quite happy with the battery life. I could get about two days of battery life with a full charge. After not owning the phone for too long, the screen went garbled and stopped working. Loose connector, I suppose. Anyway, I got a replacement LG G2 (factory refurb, I assume) and the battery life is about half of what it was before. I'm lucky if I can go a full day without requiring a top-off.
Given that the G2 phone line was only released about 6 months ago, it's hard to imagine that the replacement phone's battery was used so much that it doesn't hold a significant charge anymore. The phone is similarly configured (stock Verizon OS, rooted, a number of bloatware apps removed), so I can't imagine why the battery life is so much worse. Had I not experienced such good battery performance with my first phone, I perhaps wouldn't mind so much. But this one is definitely a let-down.
What could possibly cause such a difference in battery life between my two instances of the same model phone? If my replacement phone does indeed have a defective battery, I'm suspicious whether I'd be able to get another replacement just because the current one isn't as good as my old one. Is perhaps the quality control on the G2 battery low enough that you might by luck get a good one or a bad one, and I was lucky with my first one and unlucky with my replacement?
Thoughts?
Mine is same my first g2 can get up to 6 hours of screen on time,But in the second g2 i only get max of 3 hours of screen on time...

Shelf Life?

To those who own the MXPE: Do you see this phone lasting 2ish years before needing an upgrade?
I'm getting ready to pull the trigger (via work), but I will pretty much absolutely be locked down for 2 years.
I understand NO phone is future-proof, just trying to get some insight from those who own this. I also understand most people here and who will post here probably like their phone. Again, just looking for some first hand experience.
This is not a compare "x" phone to this one.
I think it will for me. Hell, I had my Nexus 5 for two years and that's the longest I have ever had a phone. Usually a month or two did it for me. I'd buy a phone on a whim and go back to the Nexus 5 every time. This seems to be another phone like that for me.
As long as it gets 6.0 at some point, that will be just fine by me. I kept the Nexus 5 on 4.4.2 until just a few months ago.
No reason to feel it won't last 2 years. The standard now is 2 years of updates. And I feel the construction of the device will last.

I think shelf life has much more to do with the user than the phone. If you don't want something new and shiny, and you don't break your phone, there's no reason it won't "last." But we all get the itch....
I had an Samsung Galaxy s3 for 2yrs. I know people that have had the S3 since it came out 3yrs ago. If the s3 can last 3yrs this phone can last 2yrs.

Personally, no I don't. Unless a stock or aosp rom enhances battery life twice what it is now. I came from the LG g3 that had the same size battery and I feel it lasted A LOT longer. I will be selling mine at the turn of the year for a Nexus 6p once all the hype has calmed down and I may be able to snatch a used one fairly cheap.
Beats the heck out of my Nexus 5 in the battery department. so I'll be happy for a long while.
How will the battery hold a charge 18 months from now? Nobody knows at this point. Doesn't matter if Marshmallow helps with battery life on a day-to-day basis. As long as the movable parts hold up...power switch, volume rocker, gyroscope, etc. then the phone should last more than two years. But, will we choose to replace the battery if it starts to go south? Tear down is available but not as easy as one would like in order to swap batteries.

Yeah, the N5 set the bar so low for me in the battery dept that anything is a huge improvement
I'm looking at replacing my Note 3, but only because I won't be getting any new updates. If there would be updates, I figure I'd keep it at least 1, if not 2 more years.
With an unlocked bootloader, you can get updates, as long as someone keeps working on them, and that's why I'm looking so closely at the MXPE. (My old ASUS TF201 has lollipop, but no updates from ASUS for 2+ years!)
I got 2 years out of my Moto G 2013 without too much bother... If the X-Style gets similar android support, this will last 2 years easy for me. Maybe more.

I came from 2 years on an HTC One M7. Loving the Pure so far - the fast charge makes a huge difference. I can easily see it lasting me 2-3 years as long as the dev community supports it with the latest roms.
The build is about the same as the S3 (had it for two years) and G3.
Both phones lasted. I think this phone will last, so long as you're not crazy clumsy or forgetful.
This is the first no carrier phone I bought because I have VZ and need a decent camera. Lasting with me depends on whether there is another phone next year with features that outdoes this one.

Opinions from owners

I just upgraded to a LG G5 with BestBuy since it was 1/2 off. This phone isn't bad by any means but I do have 14 days of time to swap the phone out for something else. I want to know what your guys experiences have been like since the phone has been out for a good month now.
Things I really look for in a phone are Battery and Camera.
What's your average battery life? Does the phone get really warm when QI charging? Autofocus and Camera quality? And just any other general things you think are important.
I've had phones from both LG and Samsung (Galaxy S5 and Nexus 5), but this time upgrading I found it a close tie between phones.
Thanks for any info. I appreciate it. Just don't want to get stuck with a phone I dislike for 2 years.
EDIT:
Welp, just noticed that there is an entire forum dedicated to reviews of the phone's features.
Mod's/Admins delete this thread if you need to
Upgraded? Yeah no... I love lg now a days but huge downgrade...
Sent from my SM-G935P using XDA-Developers mobile app
LG is a downgrade to a Samsung phone or tablet, camera is great, battery is one day with the right battery saving apps will run all day, get about 3 hours screen time, doesn't get hot on normal use or charge with Qi.

Anyone switched directly from the G3 to the V20?

I have the G3 and the battery life is not bad. I'm debating between the pixel and the V20. I'm curious how the G3 battery life compares directly with the V20. I know everyone is interested in sharing their battery story and if you have another phone you want to talk about I'll be happy to start another thread. It doesn't help cover my question if people are switching from the G4 or G5 or note or a vibrator or an iPhone... I have a G3 so that is the only frame of reference that will mean anything to me.
It's about the same. Traded in my G3 for the v20 and so far the only thing that's great is the audio on my headphones. Dropped calls and bad LTE connections along with some lag have made me consider taking it back.
OMG get the v20! Switched from the G3 and guessing double the battery life after a week of use. Much better LTE signal strength with fewer dead spots. Killer audio, camera, and love the always on screen.
Looked at a pixel but for the extra cost of about $250 on VZ plus getting the removable battery and SD card I was down for the v20.
This phone is killing the G3. Battery life is waaay better. And I had Greenify and Amplify on my G3. It was rooted and booted but this V20 is 2 steps up without root. Probably get a day and a half once root comes out. Jk. Lol.
THanks for the response - the reason I ask is - I've turned off a ton of apps I don't use and get very good battery life on my G3. I have BT on 24x7.
It has been 24 hours since my last charge - I have 62% battery life remaining. Talk time 1.5 hours - normally I use my phone about 4.5 hours a day - I use it as my office line for tech support.
Anyone here use their phone as a phone a lot?

Basically my phone on standby I have black and white on cause I used it last night and its better on the eyes I just haven't turned it off lol
I too switched from my very loyal/dependable G3 to the V20. I've had the V20 since Oct 29th and I can say without reservation that it blows my old G3 away. I was running Resurrection Remix ROM on my G3, and the V20 still smokes it....regardless of no root/locked bootloader. The only thing I miss is the CM13 theme engine/Layers...but I still think the V20's responsiveness and features make up for it.
I am on Verizon and I've noticed that the signal strength is much better on the V20 compared to what I had on the G3. So far, I am confident that I made the right choice. Also for me, battery life is much better on the V20 and that is with its little 2nd screen on the entire time.... I average a day and half to 2 with moderate to heavy usage. My old G3 would only last about a day.
I did seriously contemplate the Pixel XL, but when I finally had one in hand and compared it to the V20, it was a no brainer for me.....removable battery and expendable local storage sealed the deal.
Good luck with your decision(s)....
I only just changed to the V20 yesterday, so far so good. I will still keep my G3 , it still holds its weight when comparing to other handsets on the market. Though the 2Gb ram was starting to show it's not good enough anymore with android 6.
I just got my V20 today and i have to so far I am loving it over my G3, idk about battery life yet as I killed the battery during setup and restoring my apps.
Thanks for your replies. I look forward to your opinions on the battery.
Well I still have 2X LG G3 and 1X Samsung galaxy s4 . But because my LG V20 came defective from factory i had to return it, but for the short period i used it, i can say it is way better than the LG G3 on Every aspect without exception! (im still waiting for my new LG V20 to come (STUPID BACKORDERS!)) The LG G3 >rooted with AICP or Resurrection Remix would last about 18 hours with screen off, and 3-4:50 hours with screen on device in normal usage, not heavy such as Youtube video on 1440p. Yet with the LG V20 with screen off, i lost about 1 percent every 4 hours with screen off . and screen on i got 6+ hours of normal usage. (i have 35 user apps installed on my LG G3 and also had them on my LG V20, many of them were constantly synchronizing such as package tracker pro, zooper widget pro, among others)
My V20's battery life is just about exactly what I was getting with the G4 and the G3.

Bummer - but good to know. I'm hoping the Motorola ? or Lenovo P2 come to Verizon soon as I'll need to make a decision soon. I know it a fancy recording device is important to others but I use my phone to make phone calls 95% of my use time is phone calls. Maybe 5% of the time I'll check email or text and once in a while when travelling use GPS. So cameras and recording don't matter - call reception and battery life are king for me. They both have similar thickness to the V20 but include a 5100mah battery!

If battery life is king, then the Moto Z Play is the phone you want.

Thanks - same company but it has a 3510mah battery. I'm going to guess the new model with the 5100mah battery will last longer.

Maybe. Depends on other factors. Pretty much any review you read will say that the Moto Z Play can last days. I've seen reports of 7 to 10 hours of SOT. That's without the battery mod.

I don't know if the P2 when released will have a Verizon option so I'm still hoping to find something with good battery life worth upgrading to without wasting an upgrade. I'd also love the ZenFone 3 Max which only has a 4100mah battery.

Moto G6 PLUS Battery Life

Ok, I'm planning on getting the G6 plus but need conformation on the battery life as I have excessive paranoia due to my last phone ( LG G3 ) only having less then 3 hours SOT. So what is the SOT on this phone and would it be worth it to get a nokia 7 plus instead as the battery on that is so much better.
- Thanks for the help in advance
Frankly, I'd get the Nokia 7 Plus. Better processor, bigger battery, Android One. This isn't to say that those aren't bad on the G6 Plus, but Lenovo is slow when it comes to updates. I would've gotten the 7 Plus myself if carrier support wasn't going to be iffy in the US.

Thanks Joe but the 7 Plus would cost me an extra £200 over 24 months and i dont care much for updates, I just want to know if you can get through a day without worrying about the battery ( i've had bad experiences with the likes of the s6 edge and LG G3 ).
My regular G6's 3,000 mAh battery can go through a day just fine, and the G6 Plus's battery is 3,200 mAh, so I'd imagine you'd be able to make it through a full day just fine.

As a previous owner of an LG G3, I can say this phone blows it out of the water in every single aspect! The phone is incredible faster than an LG G3 and yet I get about double the screen on time. It has quick charge so you can top off your battery in no time. Only have time for a 10-15 minute recharge? Still enough time to probably get an extra hour screen time under typical use.
You really should care about updates. These days it pays to be better safe then sorry and so far Moto has pushed out a security update every month which is good. However, I bet it will be awhile before we see Android Pie officially released but we have a dev working on that!
