I just flashed a custom rom. However, I was extremely stupid and did not backup my device before installing. I think I may want to get my phone back to the way it was.
I went to galaxys4root.com to download the AT&T Galaxy S4 stock rom. However, whenever I tried to flash it {using twrp}, it said it failed. Any help?
My phone still works fine; I would just like to get back to the original rom.

Have you tried using the stock firmware from "sammobile.com/firmwares/"
These you can load using Kies or Odin (depending on the file).. not using TWRP

I haven't yet tried that. My phone seems to also have gone from sgh-i337 to gt-i9505g. {The rom I'm running is a Google Edition.} At least, that's what the Model number states. I've decided for now that I will continue to use this rom since it's turning out to be pretty great.
However, for future roms/getting back to stock, is it safe to install i337 and/or i9505g roms?

The ROM won't properly figure out what model phone you have, the ROM basically shows what device model it was designed for.
For instance, my phone is actually i717d (d is added as the Canadian model, phone is from Telus).. but I use ROMs made for just the i717 (AT&T model).. they are basically the same phone.
I would just check to make sure hardware stats for the i337 are the same as the i9505g, since you're using a i9505g.. i believe that if the kernel is not meant for your particular device, it could generate errors or may even brick.
If ever going back to a stock ROM, use the one meant for your device exactly.

So I reverted from CM11 back to the stock AT&T MDL package through Odin on my wifes phone as she was having problems with CM dropping service.
Anyhow, the revert went fine and the phone is back on MDL and works perfectly.
The only thing that is bothering me is that when the phone boots it still shows the "Samsung Custom" screen which is odd to me since I went back to the stock firmware. It's also keeping the phone from updating to the latest official AT&T software.
How can I get this thing ALL the way back to stock?

There are several reasons you could be getting "custom". Sometimes, all it takes is a few reboots for it to go away, sometimes it's something on your SD card that triggers it. Try taking out your SD card and rebooting a few times before you try anything else to see if it still shows custom or not.
Don't use kies unless you want the newer bootloader. You could always flash one of the tw based roms and see if that works better for her. I currently use ShoStock and it is very stable.

Kies don't have any bootloader over MDL on at&t phones. No other firmware then MDL are available on kies for At&t models of Samsung galaxy S4. So you will not update bootloader to newer.

So Kies will take care of it then. At this point not too worried about the phone being on the newer locked bootloader. It's almost up for its AT&T Next upgrade anyhow.
Can you suggest a good backup program that will back up literally everything on the phone to include custom ring tones and who they are assigned to in the address book, etc. I hate having to set her phone back up every time I have to wipe it.
Thanks for your input guys.
Good to know about kies. I haven't used it since my S2. I would recommend keeping the older bootloader just for the resell value.

You could try MyBackUp Pro,TB, or Koush's back up app--forget name--not sure if they do ringtones though
Only thing I know for sure is a nandroid--
Try a Google some other apps are mentioned--like Back Up My Tones Premium
I own a originally Sprint S4, after rooting and playing around with it (I recall updating the modem and installing Triforce Custom ROM).. one day i realized it turned into a Canadian S4 when I tried to install another Custom ROM (Beanstalk 4.4.2), CWM said I was trying to install a jfltespr file and I needed a jlftecan one. I looked for the canadian version of the ROM and it installed without a problem and everything works. My phone now shows model as SGH-l337M and I can install anything made for the Canadian variant. Can someone explain to me how is this possible and how can I revert whatever I did? Thanks in advance.
P.S: I'm positive that I played around with more things, I just don't remember.

Glitch in the Matrix... should have taken the blue pill.
You flashed a ROM that was not for this Sprint S4 (SPH-L720) so of course the model will show as different. If you want a U.S. Sprint model ROM then flash one of them to get the right build number.
Not sure what you're asking. Or are you just stating?

Thanks for answering, my question was how do I go back to Sprint model and you just answered. But I can't help to wonder, can I use this method to freely change my S4 Model so I can install say, International S4 ROMS? (I9005)
You do NOT change the model your phone will forever be a SPH-L720. Its only a build prop change that happens that makes it seem like the model number has changed. I can do.the same thing with stock NAE ROM by changing one line in the build prop.

As daniel4653 said you don't change the model - it is what it is. Like slaping a Mercedes hood ornament on a yugo - it's still a yugo.

the answer is pretty much NO. Unless it's ported to the Sprint Galaxy S4 hardware. Unless you want to turn your device into a pretty paperweight that is.
I've got it, thank you for answering. So in order to go back to make my phone accept SPH-L720 ROMS via CWM I need to force-flash(say Odin) a Sprint ROM? Can't I just change that line in the build.prop?
You don't have to change the build prop for anything to flash. Just flash away via Odin or CWM.

The thing is CWM states that I should not be installing jfltespr ROM's whenever i try to because my phone is needs jfltecan ones, even though my phone was originally Sprint but now it displays as Canadian. That's why I wanted to make sure that flashing a Sprint ROM via Odin was safe.
Not really sure what you're doing, with what CWM or how. Sounds to me like you're using some other 'branded' recovery, or some other flashing app.
I suspect a whole lot more reading should be done.
But IF you have a Sprint Galaxy S4 model SPH-L720 (and not the T version) you can install Philz recovery - look in the dev section. Then flash whatever you want.
I just got myself a Verizon Note 3. This is one power house of a phone. I noticed the kid I got it from does have it rooted. The only annoyance I see is allot of stuff is showing in the status bar with Chinese writing. is this normal or did he use some dumb way to root it? Also it still has 4.3 on it. I tried to update it but I get the message that "software update is currently unavailable". Is this because the Note is rooted?
I have done some searching and I did get the files for flashing it back to stock. Odin, .mkz, and the Samsung drivers. So if this update message is because it's rooted, I do have the stuff to flash it back to stock. I do also know how to use Odin as it's the same program for flashing the Note 1, which I did have. But any insight you guys can give me would be great. Thanks

Since you're on MJE 4.3 see this thread and go to post 2 NC2/MJE instructions...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2787627
Thanks for the info gamer but I'm not looking to root or flash roms. with this phone. At least not yet anyway. It's new to me so I really need to be as familiar with it as possible before I go flashing roms and tweaks and such. I'm not familiar with the names MJE, NC2, NC4 etc. so trying to explain that to me is just like speaking German to me right now. All I want to do for the here and now is get it back to stock un rooted 4.3, take the update to 4.4.2, and then check on the need for root then.
I also will need to look into what's safe to flash, what needs to be run, app wise, in order to flash some things. Take for instance my last phone, lg optimus g pro, you needed an app called freegee to get past the bootloader. If you screwed that up, you bricked yer phone. I'm sure some of the processes for this phone are similar in that respect. So no fiddling for me just yet. So in short, could you just tell me in simple terms if I have the correct stuff to flash it back to stock?
I currently have the latest Samsung drivers, Odin 3 V3.0.9, and the tar file named "ALL_N900VVRUBMJE_N900VVZWMJE_2106277_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5.7z"
Is this what is needed to flash it to stock 4.3? Also, if you don't mind, could you tell me if there is ANY way, a modem flash perhaps, to get my LTE working with this AT&T Straight Talk sim card? Currently I am getting H+ which isn't bad but it's no LTE. Thanks a bunch.
EDIT: Well, that was easy. My computer ran the Verizon software and it failed to update it so it did the repair and repaired it with kitkat. So one issue solved. Now If I can just get LTE working on here it would be great....lol

You can flash different modems in Odin but I don't know if they'll get you running on AT&T Straight Talk, someone else will have to chime in on that.
Att straight talk might work if you have the correct apn settings but you will not get 4g

Yeah I am finding this out Roger. I want to root and enable the hidden menu. I am seeing posts about doing this and getting the 4g LTE working. The problem is most of these posts pertain to the T-Mobile branded note 3.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. I am new to this custom ROM stuff and am trying my best to follow all the guides, but I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4. Android version 4.4.2 and Build version KOT49H.I337UCUFNC1, so I've been following the NC1 guides. I was able to successfully root using towelroot and verified that it worked using a root checker app. I then installed SafeStrap, backed up my stock image, and put two different custom ROMs on my external microSD card, Graviton (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2372742) and PurifieD (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2454205). After creating another ROM slot, and performing a factory wipe using SafeStrap, I installed Graviton and it went through and told me to reboot. However, when the phone loaded again, it looked just like the stock ROM again. So I wiped everything again and did the same with PurifieD. It gave me all the installation options of what bloatware I wanna get rid of, etc and also seemed to install successfully. But once again, when I rebooted after installation, it looked just like stock again.
Am i doing something wrong? I really want to use these nice looking ROMs!!
And if I can get that to work, it seems like I have no 4G connection, even though WiFi works. I'm assuming http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50965837 is the guide I will want to be looking at to make it work?
Thanks for the help
I assume they are based on GNG8 AND GNG1 and you are running FNC1.
The rom based on stockrom is important too.
I suppose you downloaded Purified HD's v3.3? Because it is based on FNC1.
Try roms made specifically for your device to avoid problems and bricking. Experimenting without knowledge is also not supported here. Plus people are not responsible here for bricked devices or any weird thing that happens.
Towelroot worked for your phone as it is a universal app, made for S5 by the great @geohot, but works for many devices.
EDIT : Well I totally missed the i337 part. Thank you @Lennyz1988.
Sent from my Ozcan GT-i9500 using XDA mobile app
You need to read more carefully.
You have a I337 model. NOT an I9505 or an I9500. You can't flash other roms to your device. Stick to your model only the AT&T. Try what DeepankarS tells you. From what I remember your stock rom needs to be the same as the rom you are trying to flash.
Thanks for the assistance fellas. And yeah, knowing that I was looking in the wrong threads would have been a better start and I'm lucky I didn't permanently damage my phone. Thanks again for the heads up.

I rooted my phone with towelroot. I wanted to install cyanogen so I went to the site. I couldn't find my device driver so I tried the US Cellular. (btw I have cwm recovery 6.0.4.7). I went into recovery mode and press backup and restore. I saw an error message but i ignored it. So then I wiped data and factory reset. I tried to install Cyanogen through install zip. I installed it but when I went to reboot phone it rebooted back to recovery. It does that every time.

Your stock ROM is here. If you want to install a custom ROM afterward, you need to make sure the custom ROM will actually work on the Straight Talk Galaxy S4. Keep in mind that there are some thirty different variants of the Galaxy S4. The ROMs in this forum are geared towards the I9500 series international phones as well as the I9505G Google Edition phone. These ROMs may not be built with the Straight Talk S4 in mind, as it's a minor variant compared to the I9505.

Thanks! I started download like 5 minutes ago and it's 0.1/1.3 GB downloaded. Can you send me it through mediafire or something?. Also can you send me a link to a Cyanogen Mod for Straight Talk S4
Unfortunately, you're just going to have to deal with the download speeds. For me to post the MD5 file on MediaFire, I would need to download the ROM I provided you the link to, split that file into multiple downloads of 50MB each, and host it on MediaFire. Since I do not have a Straight Talk S4 but an I9505 with a Straight Talk SIM, I think you'll understand why I'm not going to waste the time and bandwidth.
Regarding the link for a Straight Talk S4-compatible version of CyanogenMod, check the CyanogenMod website and see if someone there has made one. If they haven't, you'll have to build one yourself because no one is going to do it for you. Again, I don't have the phone, but even if I did I have no desire to run CyanogenMod on it.

Alright thank you I downloaded the ROM, installing it right now with Odin. Taking forever with system.img.ext4 but it looks like it's almost done. I'm pretty sure I have no idea how to build my own CyanogenMod for my phone. Any ROMs you consider are good and compatible with my phone?
I don't run a custom ROM, but a stock, debloated one. I would simply root the phone, debloat it using the excellent guides and tools on XDA, then install a launcher from the Play Store*. From there, make sure S-Voice is disabled in the Touchwiz launcher so you can use Google keywords ("OK Google") and enjoy your phone.
*I use the Google Now Launcher because of its "swipe to the right" access to the Google Now cards, but there are other very good alternatives to the GNL. Nova Launcher and Apex come to mind.
