So far I've seen lots and lots of people complaining about the touchscreen malfunctioning on the Z1, saying that this is a hardware problem and thinking of buying a Note 3 and G2... But then, you maybe have never knew, that almost all the other phones out there have the same problem as we do.
LG's G2 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAP5iL_xamY
www.youtube.com/watch?v=19u8qo8-ACU
www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLnRZyKAL1M
Samsung's Note 3 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUC7tnwmj5o
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gQpFZ0PATo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEdIVv4Sup0
As for the Nexus 5, I have not seen any videos that suggest that it has the touchscreen problem,
But this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XEvM2nGRmk
I think that all these manufacturers such as Samsung, LG, Sony, etc... Use the same Sypnatics touch digitizer.
Please don't criticise my post too badly if it's stupid, I'm just trying to help everyone
EDIT : For Xperia Z1 it's worse maybe because of the Aluminum frame...
Hey guys I have a tip for ya'll who have the touchscreen problem, go to Settings > Launguage and Input > Scroll down the pointer speed and make it to the slowest. It has lessened the touchscreen bug from happening for my device. Hope this helps

Hope this works, I saw a post in sony forum suggesting this method also. Well I hope our problem gets fixed in the 4.3 update. It will be a good Christmas gift
OT: Just read xperiablog and it seems a z1 refresh is going to be announced in CES with the mini.

I don't have that issue either...
That made me think...
Guys, can it perhaps in at least some instances be bugs in the sketch software and not faulty hardware?

Gg nice post, ao people get some prespective. Z1 is an awsome device, damnit 6 hours brilliant screen time on a 5inch Fhd, i've seen battery report from g2 averege is 4.5 hours like ours, and can get to 7 with power savings. Z1 rocks

Any proof for that? I might fully believe that since xperia SP also has the same problem both have aluminum built.
HTC one also is made of aluminum. My Final solution really is to sell the phone but in the even that there can be some possible fixes to reduce or completely remove the problem then it's great. Maybe hardware remedies or software. For now I'll just wait and see what 4.3 will bring.

Not really sure about that, on mine there is no such thing influenced by the aluminum frame, I did 1000 of test and videos. Sometime it come, sometime it vanish, sometime I can't open the lock screen via pattern if I leave the phone on the table.

It starts when you hold two fingers in the screen for more than 12 seconds. Then the multitouch is lost. After a few seconds it fixes itself.

I think the point was, most cameras on phones do not have this feature and the Atrix did not have the feature out of the box.

...really? Galaxy S has, iphone has, n8 has...anyway there is no manual focus either on atrix. for a highend phone like this you have to be silly not to expect it.
anyways without being able to flash a kernel we wouldnt be able to do anything about multitouch far as i'm aware
A bit off topic but I don't see how the nokia N8 has autofocus considering it has a "full focus" camera, aka fixed focus.

OMG I was wondering this while playing MARIO CART 64! You press B to go but you have to use the trackpad and 12 after the race starts, I always come to a stop and everyone passes me
LOL I sound like a dumbass kid now...but seriously, this is very very annoying...
The only work around I saw for Mario Cart was to use the Accelerometer sensor for the trackpad. Which is under Settings>Input Settings then Use sensor as-trackpad.
But this is defiantly an annoyance to other applications too...it really needs to be fixed.

Got my Nexus 4 today.
Half an hour ago I realized some constant noise coming out of the top speaker, all the time.
It's very quiet but it's definitely there. Sometimes it sounds like if you have your phone near a radio or anything else with speakers.
Anyone else got the same problem? Might this drain battery?
No issue like that here.
Edit: After further investigation in a quieter place. I do hear a slight sound. As if the top speaker is on.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I just checked. It is really barely noticeable, but it is there!
Let's try to narrow this down...
If you have the issue, write down if it's dependent upon anything.
Does disabling "touch sounds" fix it?
How about disabling noise cancellation?
If you blast some quick bursts of compressed air at it, does it fix it?
If you mute all the volumes, does it help/fix it?
Could you freeze the audio controller app (don't recall the name atm) in system/app?
I got mine today and don't have that issue

I hope someone with the time and dedication will create a thread with a checklist of all the problems, so new owners can check if they have any of those problem and decide whether or not to return the unit.

This has a high chance to come from the last kernel version ! Anyone using linux may have noticed this from the last kernel update of the sound driver , i think somehow related to the powersaving . It's surely annoying but not a big deal, more software related than a hardware defect.

I'm a little confused, is the GPS and multi touch issue hardware or software related? How do I test a new unit for multi touch defects?

So it's definitely hardware then? So I'll probably just keep on trying to unlock the tablet and see if it hangs ? What about the wifi problem? How do I know if my device has it? Poor range?
Seems it'll be a big of a gamble then..should I be worried about getting the new nexus 7? I've had the old one and had to sell it in 2 months time because it was getting unusable by then.
I agree about multitouch problem, it's still there. GPS problem was fixed. And no wifi issues on my device. So you need to check touch issues, use this app to do it https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rn.yamtt&hl=en
With the latest update, the gps is definitely fixed. I played ingress for 2 hours and the gps was perfect, spot on.
The multi touch is still wonky, not too terrible, but definitely you will experience the issue. Missed touch, locked press, etc.
To test : open Google maps, and try to rotate using two fingers. It won't be smooth.
But, don't worry, this is not hardware issue.
Take a look this thread :

I applied to ts10, and now the touchscreen is perfect!
No more missed touch, rotating Google maps is smooth
Everything else is no problem.

I guess no. This might be a test build for the path towards stable Kitkat.
Certified doesnt always mean that it would be rolled.
I guess sony will go straight to 4.4KK...
It could be like last update: 14.2.A.1.114 (certified) ==> 14.2.A.1.124 (certified) ==> 14.2.A.1.136 certified and released.
So again: wait and drink a cup of tea
After releasing New Flagship Device they might release kitkat for Z range

Therefore, that it's only a minor number forward from the last fw (136), it won't be anything near kitkat!
Maybe a minor Bugfix or extended update from 136 but nothing major!
Wait until the buildnumber changes to 14.3.X. to guess when kitkat will arrive, just a hint

Kitkat won't be out before Barcelona - that's 100% and this could go out, maybe it's just some regional patch.

That are mainly hardware issues and I really doubt it could be ever fixed...
Maybe they will succeed to make it better - like touchscreen sensitivity and yellow tint...
But that's not software - I'm 100% sure, why?
Because I'm using 290 firmware and it's working fantastic.
Without any touchscreen problems, with real white and black colors on screen and with great battery life...
Every single firmware I tried worked perfectly...534, 290 or 136 - without a single glitch.

Actually the Yellow tint is a known software, not hardware problem . The touchscreen problem is iffy, some say hardware while some say software. I actually would say the Z1 is almost flawless hardware wise, the problems start on the software side (yellow tint, camera, bluetooth, etc.)
It's good because that means Sony can fix most of the problems on the Z1. They already fixed yellow tint and bluetooth, now the touchscreen and camera optimization should happen soon.

I would say it's mix, it's a software, O.K but only on some devices which are using different screens and other parts (bluetooth chip and other parts).
It's impossible that you have problems and I don't have if we all have exactly the same hardware...
So the conclusion would be - we are both half right

I've been on the stock kitkat ever since it was released and don't have any issue related to touchscreen. The previous build (.681) did have issues like overheating, camera app freeze / lag etc. but I didn't see anyone here complaining about the touchscreen. Maybe I missed if anyone did, but would you kindly elaborate as to what issues exactly do you have? I would like to test it on mine.
Anyway, after a day's use on the latest .757 build, my Z1 seems to work as it should with no noticeable issues so far. No sound bug, camera app works fine (no issue with the shutter key anymore), no overheating or mediaserver issue. Battery seems to be better than on jellybean for me. Also attached a couple of screenshots below showing no unusual battery drain on standby (which many are complaining) of 7 hrs with 1 hr screen on time (with 85% battery left for use).
Wow, I seriously hope the RAM consumption has been fixed. The Z1 is the worse multitasking phone I've come across in flagships, just too much of RAM usage and not enough to go around to keep enough stuff in memory. Now to wait for [NUT] to release the rooted version for the C902.

Also attached a couple of screenshots below showing no unusual battery drain on standby (which many are complaining) of 7 hrs with 1 hr screen on time (with 85% battery left for use).

yes, the touchscreen issues is rare and the Z1 works at 90% without any problem
I had this touchscreen issue only once. It didnt recognize the input and when it did, they were not accurate. But like I said it only appeared once. The only things that are annoying are the RAM usage and the camera app lag..I hope that they are fixed in this update
If you use 'pattern unlock' or 'swipe keyboard' you will have come across the touchsceen issue.
Works most of the time but there is defo issues there!

I'm by the phone every day I spend over 8-9 hours, and most of the time on the internet. Over the past nearly five months that I have this phone, I've never had a problem with the touchscreen.
