Is anyone here familiar with how much I'll have to spend to get the screen repaired for me?
My screen finally cracked after someone knocked it out of my hand, my bumper wasn't sufficient for this kind of impact. The bottom half of the screen doesn't function.

In India, it costs about Rs. 4500 = $75US.

I saw your location was NY. So I just told you that in India its for Rs. 4500 which is more or less $75 if your convert the currency. But you should call up LG services for the exact prices.

In California, $185 was the best price I was quoted. It was cheaper to buy a used one on Craigslist and sell the broken one for parts

Seems like it's cheaper to repair overseas than in the us. I don't have the money to spend 180 on screen repairs so close to the holidays. I think I'll sell this cracked one, then switch to my galaxy s1.

I bought the screen (LCD + digitizer + frame) all in one piece on eBay for $128 and replaced it myself. If you haven't done it before, it might take you about 1.5 hours..

I don't think I'm skilled enough with hardware to pull this off. I would likely mess up. I was thinking about trading it in to tmobile and just using my S1 until I can save for Project ara from moto next year.

Doesn't make sense to spend nearly $200 on repairs for a problem that's affecting ~15% of my screen. I've been using my phone upside via rotation to overcome the dead zone.
However I cannot stand knowing a crack is on my phone, this is the first device I've allowed this to happen to ever.

They are just trying to rip you off. Call up the LG service care helpline if you haven't already and ask em about the prices. Because these repair centers are usually authorized one and can quote anything. Happened with my HTC sensation. They charged me Rs. 11000 for the screen and when I confirmed with HTC they said its for 4000 about 2 years ago. So be sure about getting it repaired anywhere. Hope things work out for you. Sad to see another device on its death bed.

Hello Rishav,
I dropped my Nexus 4 yesterday...the display is now cracked and unresponsive to touch, so I cannot get past the screen unlock pattern. I read your post that it costs Rs. 4500 to get the screen/digitizer replaced in India.
I was wondering if you know where I could get it done in Pune. I see that your location is Gurgaon but any info you have / could provide would be appreciated. I searched on Google for Nexus 4 repairs in Pune but haven't come across anything useful.
Thanks in advance!
Rahul
Just contacted LG via live chat, and apparently it'll be between 100 and $180. I'm going with 180 because the frame, digitizer, and screen are all damaged. Sadly I don't have $180 right now(have to worry about tuition, transportation, bills, etc.). Think I'll just sell it on eBay or whatever.

Hi I work in a phone repair shop in the uk. I don't recommend just changing the glass. It's nigh on impossible to do without damaging the digitizer. You need to change the glass/digi/lcd and frame complete. The part you need is about £85 on ebay so a shop is gonna do it between £120-£150. Anything over that is a bit pricey.
LG is repairing mine this week for 153.00

I dropped epic in parking lot and it shattered the screen. Bad day. So if anyone is selling one please let me know. I'd even take a bricked one. I just need a working screen. at this point I don't think it's worth it to use an upgrade on a epic 2.
i will be selling mine with broken screen and odined back to stock for $75 and my wife's which is on CM7 Nightly 45 for $200. I will give extra batteries (x2) and battery charger and a couple cheap plastic hard cases, screen protectors to anyone who buys both for $250.

Keyword is 'again' as in went to multiple stores with failed results. I've never repaired, fixed, or replaced my Epic. Its an original from Sprint two weeks after release.

I had one Epic they replaced for free with some small cracks in the screen. Second one dropped and hit face down on concrete, I had to pay $100 to get a new one to replace that, that was with insurance.
A while ago there was a discussion about screen replacements under TEP. Don't remember exact details but they would only replace for less than "x" inches scratch and fewer than "x" scratches which don't touch the edges..etc etc.
Shattered screen is not a manufacturing defect or normal wear and tear so insurance deductible makes sense.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I sent my daughter's Epic Touch Galaxy 2 whatever in to Samsung. They replaced the screen for $160 including UPS shipping both ways which was cheaper than a lot of places were selling the screen uninstalled for. I think they do the older phones cheaper though. You might try checking with them.
Its if the crack is under one inch. But with shattered screens, your only option is to do an insurance claim, pay the $100 deductible and get a new phone sent to you. Its quick easy and fast delivery.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
The 35 dollar replacement is only for screen defects, it doesn't cover drops, or water damage... I got mine repaired for 35, but it was because the front camera had gone out, so it wasn't a drop or water.
So, it happened to me. Just my luck.
Was at university walking and the phone slipped from my hand onto the floor. It seemed to have survived that fairly well. Then it slid off the stairs (no barrier at the edge of the staircase going up my university) and fell about 8-10 feet onto the stair case below. Screen is ruined and unresponsive.
The phone is rooted and has an unlocked bootloader so I know this voids the warranty but I can lock the bootloader again and flash the phone back to the stock rom via cwm.
I bought the phone from Carphone Warehouse for £400 back in December because I couldn't wait and now I'm left with a brick. I need a phone to handle uni life and contact my fianceé in the States. I don't really want to have to spend money I don't have on a replacement N4 so is there anything I can do guys?
Any help at all will be extremely appreciated.
(I'd post a link to an image of the screen but cannot do so yet).
Thanks
Sorry to hear that, however the only option I think would've been better if you had phone insurance and it would replace your damaged phone and it would cost like 5 pounds a month. On the other hand maybe you can send it to Carphonewarehouse and see what the estimate is to get it repaired. Don't think rooted or not makes much difference in this situation.
Anyway good luck and hope you find some solution

Ouch, nightmare...
The only cheap way is to repair it yourself. If the mainboard is ok, get a new front and back panel. From the teardown I've seen of the Nexus 4, it doesn't seem that difficult. I'm sure there is a vid on youtube you can use as guide. If you can't do it yourself, a new phone seems to be the only option. At least it will be cheaper this time... Did you have a case on it when it dropped?

See that seems doable but the only problem is is the (is it aluminium?) that goes around the phone also got dented as it fell. This is even worse considering I actually DID have a case on it. I was using the Ringke Slim case. If anybody is using this case I highly recommend them to rethink their purchase because even though the phone hit the floor side on, it didn't protect it. Imagine if it hit face down. I have another generic 'S' silicone case from eBay and that would have done a far better job at protecting the sides. Shoulda, woulda, coulda eh?
Im wondering if LG's manufacture warranty will work in my favour at all? I just don't have the funds to replace the phone comfortably but that's the only option I see unfortunately.
I don't think you'll have any luck with warranty repair. Sorry about your phone though.

I disagree. The only cheap way to do it is via insurance, 50 quid excess or whatever is a lot cheaper than the 150 pound screen is going to cost.
So I dropped my nexus and the screen shattered. While it turns on and looks fine through the cracks, you can't actually use it. So, my question is, has anyone actually sent in their phone to have it replaced by LG? If so, how much did it cost? So far I've found places locally that will do it for $200+, which at that point I might as well just buy another phone.

It costs around 150 from what I heard. You can try calling google directly to get a better price maybe.
Yeah, I tried calling google and they just told me to call LG. I called LG but of course there wasn't anyone available right now to give me a quote on the cost. While searching Google I found one person who mentioned that they will replace the screen up to a cost of $100 and if it's over that they ship it back "totaled" without repairing it.
I was just curious if anyone had actually gone through this process.
I had mine replaced and it cost me $140. I actually got a refurbished unit, so they actually didn't replace the screen. The device I got was in mint condition and runs great. I had to ship mine to LG (which was in Fort Worth, TX). The turn around time was about 7 days, but since I live in Dallas, shipping to and from LG was next day. If you have any other questions about the process let me know.

I first called Google to get the number for LG, then called them directly. Make sure when you call LG you have your IMEI number because they can't process the return without it.
Or go to LG's site and fill out an RA request.
You can also email an LG rep from here or call if you'd prefer.

I did have a bumper case on mine, but it wasn't dropped. I tripped in a parking lot while holding my phone in one hand. So when I fell, I naturally put my hands down to break my fall and that they did. Also shattered my screen.
Ugh, it JUST happened.
To be specific, my screen is now completely unusable. The cracks are likely within the digitizer so nothing shows up properly.
I have no Sprint warranty on this phone, it's only a couple months old and sadly I bought it off of Craigslist to save a little money on the full price.
What should I do?
I went on ebay and got everything replaced with the exception of the motherboard for $155.
It's really easy to do yourself. YouTube, a screwdriver, and 7 screws.

That's the expensive route. If he didn't break his digitizer (screen is still responsive) then he can just replace the glass that should be about $50 and take about 15 mins to do.

Yeah. Check that video out on YouTube. It is not that easy. It should take 15 mins if you have done it before. You also run the risk if breaking the lcd in your attempt making the $50 purchase useless.
You have to use a heat gun to soften the very tough glue that holds the glass to the digitalizer and slowly and carefully pry them apart. Don't get glass on the lcd (scratches) and don't get fingerprints, lint, or hair on there either (pain to completely remove).
I'm actually really good at hardware repairs (prior Apple repair tech) and even that fix makes me uneasy, but it's your call.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
So basically, I have no good options to get the digitizer repaired at a low cost other than to do it myself? What a waste of money this has been and now with repairs I'm bringing the cost back up to full retail price. This has been a bad day.
I actually bought my phone off of Amazon; and when I activated the phone through Sprint, I was able to put the mobile insurance on it. Maybe you can call Customer Care, and put the insurance on your device. Then take it into a corporate store, and they should exchange it.
@redchevy90 what do you mean by mobile insurance?
insurance
I mean the premium insurance that sprint has. Its like $7 or $9 a month, and it covers your device.
I just called in and they said I activated this phone ONE DAY over a month ago so they won't do it for me by phone. They said I could take my chances at the corporate store. If this works, I *could* actually get a free replacement. But the corporate store would have been nice enough to give it to me...
You dropped your phone, you broke it, they won't replace it. That is an Assurian claim if you had insurance, which by the way is $11 a month not $7. Plus you will have to pay a $150 deductible. Sounds like the cheapest route will be fixing it yourself and next time being more careful. What was suggested earlier is pure fraud and the reason why the insurance deductible keeps going up. Own up to your failings and fix it yourself instead of increasing the fees and deductibles for the rest if us.
Sent from my icrap 2 using Tapatalk HD
Yeah, forget the fraud option. Didn't fully understand what was going on with that anyway. I found someone semi-local who has an extra digitizer that I'll just pay for and repair myself. Life's a ***** but you suck it up and move on.
The phone is still new, but radio shack now fixes screens for around $70 I believe. That's lower than a deductible.

Where did you get everything but the motherboard for 155? Who was the seller?
just bought a used sph-l720 (sprint gs4 with good esn) on the cheap
the lcd dont display anything and the digitizer is cracked of course
when i do power the phone on i do hear the sounds and the bottom capacitance buttons light up
anyhow i been following taredown guides off youtube and to my understanding (as i sit hear with my phone mostly disassembled) is that the digitizer and lcd are actually one piece unlike the s3 and s2 and almost every other phone i have had in the past?
it looks like to me the lcd and digitzer use the same "one" connector that plugs in
the digitizer and lcd used to each have their own cable connectors
so what is this actually called? its not just a digitizer and its not just an lcd is it just now called the "screen" since they are both combined into one unit only?
no info from anyone on this?

(and when I repaired, I was told that the flex was not in perfect condition) but till this day I have not had any problems (but just in case I bought a spare original flex) but it's true .. there are some who have bad luck with their Xplay.y in this case I touch you ..
Thanks for the awesome replies XPlay friends, well, except for a few useless one/s...
I found this link with awesome item bearing the Sony logo, but I'm quite skeptical of the seller (company), and of course the compatibility of the item displayed. It's probably for a Neo L. But any idea guys? Is this company reputable? And any guess if this item will work on the Play?
Here's the link: http://www.etradesupply.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-z1i-digitizer-touch-screen.html
EDIT: Oh crap it's out of stock. Can anyone of you recommend a reputable seller that sells REAL OEM ones and that ships worldwide?
Is the button wearing common because other people have had this problem

My Xperia Play was always hanging on well, 1.5yrs and it's flex only broken once (probably due to drop impact)

You have always been a great help to other users, friend, like EVERSINCE. Salute! And many many thanks!
I'm from the Philippines BTW. Just too bad the one with the Sony logo is no longer in stock.
EDIT: I'd really like to take matters into my own hands this time. Repair costs at Sony center are around $120 (converted from our currency), while buying replacement parts and installing them (which is quite easy) only costs a measly $30 to $40.

Okay, here are some results. I chose these particular listings as if you notice each item looks like its not a stock or generic photo, but a photo of what you should be getting. Still for safety sake I would contact each seller and confirm two things:
1. First that they ship to the Phillipines
2. That the item you will be getting does have the "Sony Ericcson" logo
Here they are:
This is from most expensive to least:

Hope this helps you get started for a replacement digitizer. Good luck and keep us all posted .
I have an Xperia Play since its launch on 2011 and I have had only to replace the battery... Your case is only a strange exception.

Can your signature be bigger please? I think it's not enough big...
Like always @ozzmanj1, you're like the most helpful guy on this forum.
I already checked all your recommendations, and the price is pretty okay. As for the first one, they don't ship to the PH. The rest ship to Philippines FOR FREE!
A question, though: they don't look OEM, they aren't, right? And also, I read before that the glue binding the glass digitizer and front casing is pretty tough, and I've heard others breaking the glass part trying to push it off the front bezel. Since all the links you posted direct to a digitizer-only part, I think it'd be rather hard for me as I don't have a heat gun.
Also, have you found any legit site that sells the digitizer with the SONY branding? It certainly looks cooler. And will it work on our PLAY? I tried looking already but I can't seem to find one, even the one for Neo L.
Thanks again for the awesome replies!
You're making one man less problematic here.
LOL. For the links I provided I would recommend to type copy and paste an email to each seller asking if it's OEM or aftermarket. I will keep an eye out for the whole shebang
I'd I find anything ill he sure to post here.

So guys here's an update on this matter.
Last August 16 I bought a 'replacement only' (and not OEM) touch digitizer without the frame from a well-known cellphone repair mall (Greenhills, for Filipinos here who know it). It cost me around $31 converted. I took it home and didn't install in the next 2 days because I was busy at work.
I was very happy with the result as I got my phone's touchscreen working again. Also, the replacement part looked very identical to the OEM so I found it good. The replacement part, BTW, was probably bought from HK or China, so it would have been basically the same if I bought it from eBay, minus the waiting time.
This September-somewhat-5-days-ago-or-so I noticed that when using Merriam-Webster dictionary, I had a hard time pressing the search bar. I really noticed the fault when I started using Titanium Backup and when I press the upper buttons some work and some buttons get pressed even when pressing the button beside them.
Well guess what, yeah right! IT'S FU**IN' BROKEN AGAIN! The item has a 30-day warranty but it's now 34 days and I can't take it to where I bought it because I'm on vacation and have to take care of my kid and won't be back to work (and to the place where I bought it) until Sunday!
AAARRRGGHHH! THIS PHONE IS KILLING ME!!!!
Buy a new xperia play for $100 or a refurbished one for $70

Replacement digitizers and flexes keep breaking after some time even with extreme care so the entire phone is not the problem.

This is awkward
I have one as well as my father both for over a year and a half and neither of them broke. (My flex disconnected once but I got it fixed via manufacturer warranty) The flex though probably did that via direct impact because I don't use a case and it may have fell with open gamepad.
