Hello there, I just tried to root my dads (lol yep) samsung galaxy s.
I used this kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332412
as the phone stated it has got 2.3.6 on it.
I used Odin, unticked re-partition & Flash lock. Ticked Auto-reboot & F. Reset time.
Ticked the PDA box and loaded the kernel.
After I pressed start Odin said ''All threads Completed (Succed 1/Failed 0)
But after auto rebooting it just kept looping the boot screen.
What have I done wrong and can I fix this without losing any data?
If not, can I flash it too stock. Never any modifying was done with the phone. Rooting was the first attempt.

This is not the right place for your problem, there is Q&A forum
Anyways go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15188469&postcount=9 and download JW4 CF ROOT,Extract it,open odin ,put as PDA the extracted tar and flash.Of course your phone has to be in download mode.
You won't lose any data(hopefully)
thanks for the quick reply but unfortunately it didnt work.
any other solutions?

it should have worked... anyways if u can enter download mode then u can always flash fresh stock rom and then root it...
EDIT: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/galaxy-s-gets-official-value-pack-firmware-xxjw4-includes-touchwiz-4/
1) follow steps to get latest xxjw4
2) download http://download.chainfire.eu/155/CF-Root/SGS/CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.zip and follow siberian tiger's instructions in 2nd post for rooting ur device
3) PROFIT BRODA!!!
Hm weird. I'm sure I did everything correct.
Anyway, I found out that it did manage to install Clockworkmod and I've backed up everything.
So if i would flash a new rom now and then restore only the data image, would I get back all the data?
EDIT:
My dad was/is (hehe) using a dutch rom, are there any latest dutch stock roms available?

Ok once try to update to latest firmware via software update inside about option in settings menu. and try rooting again.
Hi there, I ran into a problem with my phone, I downloaded some app (I can't recall its name, but it pretty much crashed my phone).
I thought my phone just shut down itself, so I just restarted it... But then it keeps looping the Samsung welcome screen, I tried to be patient and left it there, totally forgot about it and half an hour later it was still looping the animation !
I googled for answers, and most of them said I had to flash my phone. I used Odin 1.85 to flash it, with success ! But it didn't solve my problem... The samsung screen is still looping and I have no clue what to do. I can flash it again, I guess... I doubt that'd solve it tho.
I could post a video of what it's doing exactly, but I think I'm clear enough. Would anyone like to help me ?

see my guide about flashing stock through Odin.. link is in my signature.. or in general section sticky thread...

This is the guide I meant...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974338
For Odin flashable firmware files I have given links there.. so you can follow it..
Is your problem solved now or is it still in trouble? If in boot animation loop.. then wipe data in recovery and reboot..

Oh you're right, but those are not splitfus'ed, and there is no download for Belgium...
ok, if the files you have downloaded are odin flashable files.. that is if they have .md5 as ending in file format.. then its good.. so flash it from odin.. do it as written step by step..

Yes I did, like someone else said here. No change.
I refuse to believe it's bricked, because I can get into recovery/download mode. I can even get into CWM.

well, that means its really weird...
are you sure odin said finished? rebooted automatically?
man i am out of ideas.. sorry.. if you have nandroid backup.. try restoring it.. that should definitely work.. since yours is not in bricked state.. and also if you dont have backup.. just try fix permissions in cwm advanced option..

Ok, now something else is happening. I start "fix permissions", I get a black screen and I have to restart my phone...
I am using Chobits a modified version of CWM.
And yes, ODIN said it has passed with success. rebooted itself too. I dont' have any backups.
sorry.. i am out of ideas.. try wipe data/cache and dalvik cache.. and wait for few minutes and see if its booting.. if you have a backup.. try it now.. you are not in bricked state for sure.. if you can see boot animation... so i cant help further than this.. because i am not getting ideas to solve this..

I am not sure, but can I flash the kernel ? Maybe that is the cause... If so, where could I find the stock kernel ?

Install 7zip software.. its free.. then extract boot.img from the Odin files.. open those files you will see boot.img file.. then you can flash it with kernelflasher tool.. search for it..
But its not the cause...

I just got a GT-i9500 GS4 and I wanted to install miui on it but didn't noticed the release was for i9505, after the installation finished my phone didn't boot up and I think it's bricked. I tried a few unbricking methods like factory reset and cache wipe but nothing helped.
Any1 can help me please, also is it possible to get it to the store and get it fixed because I did a factory reset on it so it's not rooted ?

Thx for the reply but It didn't help.
After trying a few more things I installed CWD instead of Philz touch recovery and it had a restore point so that fixed the problem for me
Hi
I recently tried to install a theme from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/themes-apps/theme-systemui-themes-n910u-5-0-1-t3097608
for my note 4 910F.
I did all the steps (Copyd the apk, changed permissions to 644 than overwrote the original system ui apk, i made a backup of it, also have titanium backup)
after the install my phone now comes up with the msg Unfortunately systemui has stopped, every like 5 seconds.
i tried titaniums restore, wiping the cache from twrp and than a factory reset from twrp, but to no avail i fear i have broken my device any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Bear in mind that i rooted the phone yesterday so im new to this.
Thank you
Download the stock ROM from sammobile website and flash it using ODIN tool.
For flashing instruction, check YouTube or google.

Thank you very much it worked perfectly.. even upgraded to 5.1.1
I have a few questions tho as im new to this: I messed around with it more before flashing the stock ROM and heres what i did. Managed to push the original systemUI.apk on the modified one, that resulted in my top statusbar dissapearing, but there were no more popups of systemui crashing. However i notice that the systemUI.apk is now not installed at all... atleast the phone does not recognizes it as already on the device So next i manually installed the systemUI apk, the original one. It went trough with the install but then the phone completely broke and any animation froze it. After that i did what u suggested.
So my questions are: What did i wrong when installing the custom theme ?
Why didn't pushing the original back/installing the original work ?
Why didn't i loose any of my apps photos contact details after installing the new Firmware ? (still have everything... not complaining its just weird how a new op system install didn't wipe my data)
Thank you so much again for Your great suggestion.
