Stuck in bootloop after rooting attempt - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hello there, I just tried to root my dads (lol yep) samsung galaxy s.
I used this kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332412
as the phone stated it has got 2.3.6 on it.
I used Odin, unticked re-partition & Flash lock. Ticked Auto-reboot & F. Reset time.
Ticked the PDA box and loaded the kernel.
After I pressed start Odin said ''All threads Completed (Succed 1/Failed 0)
But after auto rebooting it just kept looping the boot screen.
What have I done wrong and can I fix this without losing any data?
If not, can I flash it too stock. Never any modifying was done with the phone. Rooting was the first attempt.

This is not the right place for your problem, there is Q&A forum
Anyways go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15188469&postcount=9 and download JW4 CF ROOT,Extract it,open odin ,put as PDA the extracted tar and flash.Of course your phone has to be in download mode.
You won't lose any data(hopefully)

thanks for the quick reply but unfortunately it didnt work.
any other solutions?
should i repost this in Q&A btw?

it should have worked... anyways if u can enter download mode then u can always flash fresh stock rom and then root it...
EDIT: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/galaxy-s-gets-official-value-pack-firmware-xxjw4-includes-touchwiz-4/
1) follow steps to get latest xxjw4
2) download http://download.chainfire.eu/155/CF-Root/SGS/CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.zip and follow siberian tiger's instructions in 2nd post for rooting ur device
3) PROFIT BRODA!!!

Hm weird. I'm sure I did everything correct.
Anyway, I found out that it did manage to install Clockworkmod and I've backed up everything.
So if i would flash a new rom now and then restore only the data image, would I get back all the data?
EDIT:
My dad was/is (hehe) using a dutch rom, are there any latest dutch stock roms available?

dude if u have cwm recovery then connect ur mob to pc and go to mounts and storage> mount usb storage in cwm recovery and copy imp stuffs to ur pc... abt the nandroid backup u made u can extract apps frm it via paid version of titanium backup... also u can change language to whatever u want frm settings after u flash the new rom!!!

thanks dude that is awesome information. but after flashing the sd card is untouched right? so the backups should stay on there anyway?

find the DL09 Verizon official odin package http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908451 . it will update EVERYTHING including radio to DL09. Then re root using ADB again. get CWM using CWM install thread here on XDA, then flash this rom. done.
make sure you flash DL09 in "PDA" NOT "phone" using ODIN.
so please dont mind my ignorant qquestions.. but im not familier with odin ive read a bit about it.. but do i need to unroot before i do that.. or not.. and cant i just say f adb and use a one click at that point?
Before you install the complete stock DL09 package posted above (which is resistant to one-click rooting, by the way), consider this option:
1. Download the DL09 modem by itself here: http://adrynalyne.us/files/roms/DL09modem.tar
2. Download Odin here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/Odin Files/Odin3 v1.3.exe
3. Pull battery from device
4. Launch Odin
5. Hold volume down button and plug device into computer
-This will place the device into download mode
6. Verify device shows up in odin
7. Click "PDA" button in odin
8. Select "DL09modem.tar" from where you downloaded it
9. Click "Start"
10. Congratulations - you now have the DL09 modem installed. Now you're ready to install your froyo build using Clockwork recovery. Might I suggest this (http://www.mediafire.com/?f282mms2jb2ra2q) one?
If you are on windows just use Odin. It is very easy and you are okay if rooted. Just make sure you read instructions. There is one button that can be painful if you don't know what you are doing.

Do you know who created Odin?
Maybe we can request him/her to release another version of the app without the "phone" button.

I always assumed it was a Samsung designed product but I don't know. I also hypothesized that it is not just for Android and that the phone button is for feature phones but I really have no idea and have not cared enough to research it.

Granted, it seems like an involved process, but most advice posts group most of these steps into one, like saying "Flash DL09 modem in Odin" without actually explaining how to do so, since there are other posts that can be found in this forum with these more detailed instructions.
Believe me, if you flash the entire DL09 stock package, rooting will be much harder to do. If you flash this package, you probably will have to root using adb again, since as far as I know no one-click root method has worked consistently on the stock DL09 ROM.
and i need to root again b4 flashing 2.2 i have rom manager and titainium backup.. .so to save all of my paid apps.. i just back them up using ti backup right???
and one more thing.. the link you posted for 2.2 theres no info on it.. what makes it so special

If you only installed the DL09 modem using Odin, you shouldn't have to root again... if you installed the entire DL09 package, you will need to re-root.
Regarding Titanium Backup, go ahead and back up your apps, use Clockwork recovery to install your DL30 build, then reinstall Titanium Backup and do a batch restore (I'm assuming you already know how to use Titanium Backup, but I'll be glad to walk you through it if you don't). You should only back up and restore user apps, NOT system data! (choose "backup all user apps" from the batch menu when backing up, and choose either "restore missing apps with data" when restoring - do NOT choose "restore missing apps + all system data"). Restoring system data after making the jump from Eclair to Froyo is almost guaranteed to cause problems.
ur going to get all kinds of thanks ur awesome dude.. ok backup is done.. u said to use clockwork recovery to install dl30.. i just use odin. for d109 and then put the dl30 file on my sd card and install it through clockwork??? right.. n can i backup contacts too??? or will google save them?? and theres no chance of losing pictures or nething else on my sd card is there??

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you... had to take a powernap... you shouldn't lose anything on your sd card... I've flashed countless ROMs, kernels, themes, etc. without losing anything. Contacts should be good, too. Just to be safe, though, you might want to make sure your contacts and calendar appointments are saved and/or synced to your google account and not just stored on your phone.

Well i think you semi-bricked your sgs.
Confirm that your 3 button download mode works, read up on this in the stickies.
After you have done that, read the stickies on how to flash a stock rom through odin.
That would be my suggestion.
The three button download works. but im not sure what to do with it from there
Oh you have not just bought it? I'm an idiot
in that case:
Have you flashed a gingerbread rom and a Froyo custom kernel?^^
In any way the problem is the ROM - kernel combination, just flash a full rom over it and you should be fine
and that has to be through ODIN?
I cant get usb connection with it because it only reaches start screen

start the galaxy in down load mode using the three button combo...
take an stock rom with three files ( PDA, PHONE & CSC ), tick re-partition and auto-reboot, F. Reset time. Use a suitable .PIT file and flash it.
there are so many tutorials and videos in XDA and youtube.

How can I be sure that they are the right files for the phone when I can not go into it and check version on the phone
as long as you have the international I9000 then any stock firmware should do the job.
its only if you have the bell version or the captivate version you need to make sure you have the right firmware.
I got it done now. Its great.
Only thing is that its not in my language now (Danish). Ive tried to go to settings but danish is not an option there. How do I install the danish language

You need to flash a ROM which includes a multi CSC file.
Or you can cook your own http://romkitchen.org and select your needs then flash through CWM.
Which ROM did you flash?
FYI: I'm using v9.9.5 from http://romkitchen.org/sgs it has 'Dansk' language.

Flashed my GT-B5510 with success, stuck at loading

Hi there, I ran into a problem with my phone, I downloaded some app (I can't recall its name, but it pretty much crashed my phone).
I thought my phone just shut down itself, so I just restarted it... But then it keeps looping the Samsung welcome screen, I tried to be patient and left it there, totally forgot about it and half an hour later it was still looping the animation !
I googled for answers, and most of them said I had to flash my phone. I used Odin 1.85 to flash it, with success ! But it didn't solve my problem... The samsung screen is still looping and I have no clue what to do. I can flash it again, I guess... I doubt that'd solve it tho.
I could post a video of what it's doing exactly, but I think I'm clear enough. Would anyone like to help me ?

[Q] Soft-Brick Assistance

Note: I may not use terms correctly, I have spent the past hour reading threads similar to mine in order to (hopefully) use the correct terms to describe my predicament.
I was using TriForce ROM 3.0 and I wanted to mix things up a bit because it was too much like the stock ROM. I found Negalite S4 and tried my hand at that, with devastating consequences. I booted my phone into TWRP did a wipe and then proceeded to install the Negalite S4.zip onto my phone. It got stuck in a boot loop. After a good 30~ minutes of it continuously rebooting I turned it off and booted back into TWRP. However, now that my phone was wiped, it is not a recognized device by my computer any longer. Since I wiped the phone clean the .zip is no longer on my phone either. So, all I have now is a phone that can boot into recovery (TWRP); which is a soft-brick (correct me if I'm wrong).
I have read other threads and the xda community informs the user to use KIES or ODIN (I have used ODIN once before). However, try as hard as I can to understand their directions... I don't know what to do with ODIN.
My computer does not recognize my device at all. It will only boot into recovery otherwise it's stuck in an infinite boot loop. I am really scared that I have ruined such a valuable phone and so I am not thinking clearly - which is only adding to my "noobishness."
Can anyone please help me out in a way that I can understand? All help is much appreciated!

Okay, download and install Samsung drivers from the Internet if your phone isn't installing them on its own. Download MDL stock. Open ODIN. Put your phone in download mode. ODIN should see your phone. Flash stock MDL. Use goo manager to install TWRP again after your booted on stock MDL. Or use ODIN to do it. Redownload the custom ROM you want and then flash in TWRP. Also wiping the phones dalvik, cache system ect shouldn't have erased your SD card in the first place. You mist have accidentally checked the wipe SD card in advanced wipe options. You never need to do that. So next time also have a nandroid backup on your external SD. I keep one on internal as well in case external card goes bad cause sometimes that happens. And never select that wipe SD card option. Unless of course you really do want to wipe your SD card. Don't do that and keep a full backup of your last working ROM and you'll not have this problem again.

If I need help I'll edit this post (no bumping within 24 hours). I'm hoping I have enough smarts to knock this out though. Again, thank you so much.
EDIT: Excuse my ignorance. I'm not sure what MDL stock is, I figured it was the default ROM - I have a nandroid of that. However, even after re-installing the samsung drivers, rebooting both my phone and computer - nothing happens. I don't know how to proceed from here. I can imagine I'm becoming a pain and do apologize.

The link above is the tar file for stock MF9. If you just use the link for the from the first post you just need to download the first file (not the kernel). Once downloaded you need to extraxt that zip and you will get a .tar.md5 file from it. Later open odin and make sure only auto reboot is checked. Click on the PDA slot and find the .tar.md5 file you downloaded click on it. Next put your phone into download mode and connect it to your computer. Wait for it to install drivers and you will see a yellow box with "com:[some number]" once you see that click start and from there let it do its thing and whoola you have your phone back to MF9 stock. Good luck!

Well, you did it! That post is solid, I understood every-bit! My phone (most likely) is downloading the firmware now. I don't know how long it will take to get off the "Downloading... Do not turn off target !!" screen, but I'll edit this post after letting it sit over night! Thank you both so much.

Your welcome glad to help again, should take less than 10 mins. If its more than that just reboot your computer and repeat the steps from opening odin and finding your file. Another GS4 saved ;D

You were right, it was quite snappy. I cannot believe I was so panicked over this! My babies safe ... for now.
So how did Twrp wipe nor SD card? When by boot into recovery and immediately click on Wipe, it'll wipe everything Necessary except the internal and external memory. Did you click the option to choose what you want to wipe? Happens more than ya may think, cause I've done it myself lol. Good to hear it's back up, I still get freaked out by those occurrences

It wasn't human error through TWRP, it was an error while flashing Negalite. It asks if you want to wipe everything, data, or nothing at all. Silly me thought let's wipe EVERYTHING! Heheh

[Q] Odin Troubles... >_<

So here we go again...
I tried using Odin to get back to stock but, Odin just kept crashing
every time I tried loading the 'MD5' file. I tried multiple versions as well..
Then I realized even though the computer would say Odin was
'Not Responding' I continued to wait, and finally it loaded the MD5!
So I went ahead and tried going back to stock, but when I did
every stock MD5 file causes my device to close
Google Play, Google Location, and SystemUI rapidly...
I was able to get my original Recovery in there and restore a backup,
but I'd really like to try and go back to stock for a bit and start fresh.
What the heck in the world is going on with my phone?!
I thought Odin was my safety net, here to help me, but
instead I'm getting more and more hassle trying to get it workin'...
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!!
Just tried flashing MK6 using Odin
(MK6 came on my phone originally)
and I get the same issue..
Everything I try ends up failing..
Egads!

What firmware are you on? What version of Odin are you using? Perhaps try using a different version. Also use original usb cable not universal one. Seems to make a difference.

So the flash was successful but when booting up u get FC's correct? If that is the case then I would guess it's because u didn't wipe data/factory reset preflash. Doing this from recovery should solve ur problem if I understood u right

So Odin doesn't wipe / factory reset
on its own?
The first time I forgot to wipe but
every other time Im sure I wiped in
recovery before hitting up download
mode.
I did make a ROM using NC1
firmware and added KT kernel to
it. The ROM was a dud and that's
why I wanted a fresh start.

The way I understand it there are 2 types of Odin flashable fws: full wipe and no full wipe. Full wipe fws are the ones that come in separate parts, i.e. BL, AP, CP etc. and no full wipe fws are the complete tar.md5 files. I recently went back to stock to get a fresh start as well and had the same issue with FC's on boot up. Factory reset fixed it

So I was using an .md5 file, therefore Odin
wasn't able to fully wipe my S4?
I could have sworn I tried wiping..
Will give it another go though! :highfive:

They're all .md5's. One comes in 4 parts and the other all bundled in one. The latter, as has been my experience, does not wipe data

I hate to sound dumb here but where
would I find individual parts to do a full

Well it sure didn't work last time I tried..
I can get the phone to boot but Wifi remains
locked in the off position and my baseband
remains at MK6 when I was trying to flash
the 4.4.2 NC1 build..
Could this be due to the KT kernel I
flashed before trying to restore?
I flashed the Kernel before all this
happened, then realized the kernel
dropped my wifi, so that's why I tried
restoring to stock, but the wifi still
drops on me after odin'ing back to
stock…

Ya that's what I used too. I just formatted all the individual partitions first using philz to be sure I got a clean start. Also, if u wanna try it, the leaked NC1 firmware that dropped right before the official OTA's came out, I think that was a 'full restore' fw as it came in 4 sections.

There is a boot.img inside the stock fw if I'm not mistaken, and that should overwrite anything you've done to /boot (where the kernel lives).
So if I understand this correctly I have a couple of options one of them being I do the full firmware update using the 4 files provided from the leak. Or somehow install the boot.img and that should fix the wifi drop issues?
