[Q] Sprint: Not getting ZV8 OTA offer - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Apparently there is an update rolling out for ZV8? I keep checking for LG Software and Firmware Updates but its not finding anything. I even defrosted the Titanium Backup LG apps the I froze.
I'm only ROOTed and debloadted a bit, no custom recovery/kernel, so I think I'll be safe taking the OTA if I can get it to popup.

You are never safe taking an OTA.

It is never advised to take ota unless you revert back to stock.

So if I unroot I should be fine?
EDIT: So I finally got the OTA offer yesterday. This morning I unrooted and let it try to update. Rebooted and went to the updating screen but then rebooted kinda fast. Booted back up normally, but I'm still on ZV7... =/

If the phone is rooted and VZW puts out an important update, what do we do?

I'm still on the stock ROM. I've heard rumors of VZW putting out updates to help with battery etc. I have the SDM file frozen so it won't auto OTA and lock the phone up. But I also don't want to miss out on solid improvements.
Suggestions?

Whole threads covering people who were rooted already downloading the most current firmware updates (two of them for Verizon landed via Kies in last couple of days) and then going back in after the updates and re-rooting their N3's. The current firmware updates keep SELinux at Permissive.

So are they "unrooting" to do this? Sorry, I'm a bit of a newb. I'm used to running custom ROM's and not dealing with VZW whatsoever when it comes to updates.
Any idea on how to unroot the N3 and prompt for an update?

I didn't know that. I'll check it out.
Any idea on how to prompt for a verizon firmware update once I have it unrooted?
Once it's unrooted, is there anything else I need to do?
I haven't installed a custom ROM or custom recovery software.

Verizon pushing update? Should I accept?

Hi guys, my gf has a new Verizon LG G2 which keeps trying to install some update... I haven't rooted it or anything (yet!) and I was wondering if I should not accept the update in fear of not being able to go back and root. Trouble is it pops up every day and forces you to pick a time to install it!
Currently running 4.2.2 baseband vs98010b, build jdq39b, software vs98010b
thanks for the help!

Accept the update. Root still works. Is this the only ota you have received. If you root first it goes into recovery bootloop if you do it when rooted.

I thought it went into bootloop if you OTA 1st then root
I literally just went back to stock --> root --> Twrp 2.6.3.2 --> flashed DigitalDream ROM but you might be right, let me search

I found out hard way. I accepted ota by accident after rooting. Scared me real bad. Research if you want. But if your stock not rooted you are good unless it is some new ota. Which I doubt.

My Sprint Moto X just got 4.4 KitKat

Not sure how many other people are getting this update. But I just got Android 4.4 KitKat on my Moto X.
Its downloading right now and should be installed in the next few minutes.
Odd Note:
I got another (very small) update before the kitkat update came.
This small update failed, so when I went to go retry it instead of saying the the other update it said that KitKat 4.4 was ready to download. :victory:

So, 4.4 failed too. Perhaps because of my bootloader unlock? I'm not rooted.
Anyone have any guides to revert to full stock?
Got the 4.4 update today. Didn't notice a intermediate update though. - stock - locked BL.
The update started last week, and the stock firmware is posted in a thread with instructions

[Q]Anyone update VZW LG g2?

I'm rooted and was wondering if the new
VS98012B update was worth it and plus if it would get my phone to boot loop by getting this update since I'm rooted.

I used the LG Mobile Support tool while rooted because the update failed otherwise. After getting the update I no longer have root. I'm happy with this update, it added a few small things and corrected an issue with the touch screen behaving erratically. I haven't tried to re-root it and I haven't bothered with any custom recoveries since this update.

I was rooted - stock recovery took the B OTA and didn't loose root mine also didn't wipe. Ive checked and my Verizon g2 does indeed say it has the new B update on it.
12b and no custom recovery
if you are still on 11a, use ioroot to root your phone and then install a recovery afterwards.
if you update to 12b you can still root it, but for now you wont get a custom recovery to install.
that should change today or shortly i would guess, but if your gonna flash roms your better off doing it now in 11a and skipping 12b.
just a heads up and info share. enjoy

I've been wondering if i should accept the new update, thought i heard somewhere that it included a patch to relock the bootloader or something, & I'm planning on rooting mine (vs98011a). Sounds like its a worthwhile upgrade tho..my screen gets just a tiny bit glitchy sometimes. Guess I'll go ahead & take it then, thanx for the heads up. As long as i can root it still after I'm good...?
Boatloader had always been locked. There is just currently no working recovery/loki with the current update. If you plan on flashing/heavy modding, don't take it. You can still root.
Edit: Apparently, Freegee now works to flash recovery on 12B.

10-4, well thanx for the heads up bro. I ended taking the update & I'm glad i did cuz it fixed the screen glitch. I'm gonna root as soon as i can get to a decent computer. Idk anything about freegee....I'll have to look into it. Well hey, i appreciate the info man looks like i have some research to keep me busy for a min. Thanx again! Btw...I'm lovin this phone, its a totally underestimated beast. Any tips on a good rom aosp/stock would both be good to know about. Heard OSE had one for this phone maybe & i loved ose on my s3.

Successful 4.4 Update?

My AT&T LG G2 is rooted and has the stock recovery and stock ROM and I don't have Xposed installed. I'm curious if anybody else with the same setup has updated to 4.4 successfully with no brick. Thanks in advance for sharing.

No It will NOT WORK. I just Flashed back to stock (Flashing Tool.. I know its a Pain and loose all your data) , Chat with AT&T to push 10q and KITKAT (if youre lucky, and if you Don't need root for time being and can wait for someone to make Kitkat root).
Or someone in another thread says.. Once you're on 10q , Root it and update to kitkat manual way and Root sticks. (but your mileage varies)
for me.. I got a great Rep on At&t side.. who pushed the 10q and waited till I updated and then Pushed the Kitkat.. Almost half hour + still this was her last statement on chat. sometimes at&T amazes me.
"At&t Rep: You too Thank you! It has been great chatting with you, you're awesome MYNAME HERE. I truly wish you the best and you have a fantastic rest of your day "

Restore to the stock image using the LG flash tool (removes root). Then go online and get them to push the updates. Did it earlier today. There's a video on youtube from rootjunky that will walk you through the restore.
Have to update to Q root then get them to push C (KitKat) I went back to stock rooted that's what I did now I'm on KitKat with root no problem
