When I plug in Headphone, it does nothing.
No matter what I play, the phone is using speaker instead headphone.
Anyone know how to fix it?

Quite odd, try other headphones? App panel pop in stock if enabled? No icon?

No icon, nothing. I tied two different headphones.
I guess it's more like hardware issue.
If you tried with other headsets that you know are not malfunctioning, return it, might be a defective device.
This. ^. Works well for me on anything.

Hello,
I don't know why but today I woke up and the headset icon on my Desire HD keeps switching on/off every second. This is not only annoying, but it also makes calling impossible, because it keeps switching between monitoring a headset (there is none) and the cell phone's own mic/speakers. Interestingly, if I plug in a headset (such as the one that comes with the phone), the icon keeps flashing. However if I plug in some regular headphones (normal jack plug), it goes into headphones mode (same icon without the microphone) and I can listen to music.
What is the problem? How can I solve it?
Thank you very much!
PS: I'm running Android Revolution 5.1.10 and have ENG S-OFF.
ive got the same problem, i think its dust in your headset port..
I've noticed over the last few days that when I plug in my earphones it shows an icon of a headset, I have to pull the jack out and stick it in again then it shows an icon of earphones. I've only seen this now after upgrading to 2.3.3
It is due to dust in the headset port, clean it using alcohol or just a swab and it should be fine.

I have the same problem, not solved by cleaning the headset port ...
anyone knows the solution?
I had this problem a few months after buying the phone around 13 months ago, (it was brand new). I tried cleaning it and it disappeared for a while but returned within a day, in the end I had to send it in to HTC to be repaired. They did it for free because it was still under warranty, but I'm not sure if their warranty is 1 or 2 years (I know Nokia's warranty is 2 years, so it's possible for HTC to be the same), depending on when you bought it it might still be under warranty, but it's a pain reverting it back to stock to send it in.
Didn't realise this thread had been bumped because it showed up on the front page of the forum, sorry.
possible solution

i heard about replacing the earphone jack would work idk i haven't try it
I had the same problem.
After switching the headset-jack, it works perfectly.
I recommend to use your warranty and send your DHD to HTC.
They will take care of it.
I've taken a look around for info on why my headset doesn't work properly with my phone but haven't found an explanation. I've seen there are two standards for 3.5mm connectors: CTIA and OMTP. Apple and a bunch of other manufacturers use CTIA and that's what the N4 is. In theory, 'made for iPhone' headsets should work, right?
I have a pair of Urbanears with a single button and that works. The phone always uses its mic and not the headset. Any ideas why this might be?
Thanks!

Yes, if you are talking about the mic, it should work for all CTIA compatible ones. But not so for the other additional buttons such as volume up/down which might be there for the headset.
Did you get an opportunity to try any other headset with nexus 4? For me , with my Galaxy S2 , all the CTIA headsets have worked without any issues. Would be really curious if it doesn't work with N4 , when it arrives.

Ok, so to be clear, those headset's mic also doesn't work? If so, I am entirely clueless to why. Will be getting my phone next week hopefully and then try with my headsets. [And change ROM's to see if it is a problem with stock as well]

This has been the case for me on both stock and MCR.
I got some RHA MA450s for Christmas and the microphone works and I can pause with a single click, skip with a double click and if I hold the button down I can use Google Now voice search. The volume buttons don't work though.

I don't know what is the issue with other headsets, but the Sony MH650c works perfectly well.
I've just tested and the phone using the headset mic.
I hope this helps.

Well that's weird. Apple earpods work with the Nexus 4, so any headphone that says compatible with iPhone should also work.
I have a pair of Bowers and Wilkins C5's (built for iphone)
The centre button works
The mic works for calls and search.
The volume buttons do not work, but I think we all know this already right ???
I know a lot of people are reporting that their mic on some headphones doesnt work, which is weird.
Thanks for your replies.
This doesn't make much sense to me since I thought that the button controls were passed thru the mic contact so if my buttons work so should my mic. Does anyone think it could be the size of the plug? Maybe because of the shape of the phone the contacts aren't connecting properly?
Off the record,
could someone explain why the volume buttons don't work? Because I never understood this.
Is it a sw or a hw thing?
I use Bang and Olufsen for iPhone and the middle button only works

It shouldn't. SGS1 had tv-out functionality from the 3.5 mm jack due to which Samsung had made some modifications which made it incompatible with other handsets. [ I was using SGS1 before switching to SGS2, but not having the handset now. From what I know, the SGS1 handset wouldn't work with S2 as well ]
So I'm guessing no one else is experiencing the same issue as me? I'm thinking I should try to use one of the set that people have confirmed to be working to see if my socket is faulty.
Hey I wonder why there isn't already a thread about that.. Or am I alone with this?
1: when I try to call someone with my headset plugged in (the one I got with my sgs1,it has 1button only), I instantly hang up and just open Google now voice search. It is really strange. I could make a video if you want to?
2: when I try to use Google now with headset plugged in it doesn'trrecognize my voice and won't work.
Note: the headset is full functional and it do work with an apple headset which has 3 buttons. I think it has something to do do with the amount of buttons but idk exactly.
3: so when I try to use my normal headphones instead (no cheap ones), I hear myself talking and there are pretty annoying noises (like my phoneis nnear a computer.. You know the sound).
Those bugs are really frustrating since all these work fine on my sgs.
Rom: cm10 but I also tried other (not cm based ) Roms
Kernel: infinity
Thanks in advance

1. Its known issue with samsung headset, it used different mic layout than the universal one. Thats why iphone headset works fine.
2. If you use samsung headset, it is already explained above.
3. I dont know, but my phone works fine with iphone and sony mh750 earphone.

Okay thanks. Is there really no workaround? I once saw a thread about someone who changed the "keybindings" on his headset to skip track by tapping the button 3 times in row or something like that - maybe this is the file to look for? :/
3: Maybe its the modem? But I don't find any other ones.

I think its a hardware difference, i dont know if there is any workaround.
Use n7player for that option. But it has nothing to do with headset port.
3. What? No it has nothing to do with modem. Maybe try different headset.

That was related to the noise while calling with my headphones, not headset.
When I plug in my Headphones (without a microphone ) I hear myself talking and there are noise.

Have you tried without headset? Is it ok? If ok so the problem is in the headset not the phone.

Hi, I got a new mic yesterday for when videoing loud sources (iRig Miccast) or just for simple & quick better quality mono recording on my phone, taking notes, recording ideas etc...
Anyway there appears to be a problem with the nexus 4 (unrooted/locked/stock running kitkat)
I have tried recording with various applications, irigs own application, tapemachine, lg camera pro, or Audio evolution pro.
When I record using the phones inbuilt mic... there is no problem, no static clicks..
However when plugin the iRig Miccast and start recording, there is random spikes/static clicks
I have set the phone to airplane mode so there shouldn't be any interference from the radios, ive tried with Screen on/off and makes no difference
I have tried the same on my motorola Xoom and there is no static clicks, so this must be related to the nexus 4
(i cant run the test on the nexus 7 (2012) as it appears to not support external mics)
Any ideas whats causing the clicks when only using external mic on n4?
many thanks

Was it working right on Jelly Bean? Maybe software update broke external mic support like Nexus 7... Also you can try factory reset.

Maybe try flashing Jelly Bean factory image (JWR66Y) and find out if the issue is still here. I tried to google that but only bluetooth mics and some for iPhones . For me Logitech USB headset isn't working, but it's via USB so...(I have the OTG path).

Hello. I have a brand new V20 910, unrooted and stock.
I've noticed that the physical buttons on wired handsets do not work even though the notification bar correctly distinguishes between just phones and a handsfree headset.
I've tested two LG original (the one that came with the phone and another one that came with an LG G3). Audio comes correctly from the phone drivers and I configured OK Google to listen to the wired microphone and it also works correctly. I mostly use the buttons for Poweramp (set to Respond to Buttons, as usual) which worked perfectly with my Cloudy LG G3
I downloaded the Headset Button Controller, set it into debug mode and I get no debug messages from neither of the three controls. And also tried switching the HiFi DAC but nothing has worked.
Can someone please suggest what I should try or do? I am no stranger to phone disassembly, but I want to avoid it if possible.
Thanks in advance.
Headset buttons can be pretty hit and miss.
I'm using a LG V20 H990DS Oreo update with Xiaomi hybrid dual driver earbuds and the buttons work fine (as they did with Nougat). Android is pretty fractured and the manufacturers (earbuds) don't all follow the specs leaving a lot to be desired. I also have found good luck with Beyerdynamic but YMMV as you have a different model number of V20 from me.
I use Poweramp, MX Player, USB Player and Vanced YouTube app with no issues.
I'd go to a store and do some in store demo of different brands to see if they work with your phone before I'd tear open the phone. Good Luck.

Wow. This is very sad to read. I never would've expected this from the V20, being the audio flaghship phone it is.
Thanks for the input.
Well. I cleaned the jack, and of course it was... well, clean.
And then I decided to disassemble the phone to visually and physically inspect the jack and it does have the 4 contact points (ground, mic, left, right) as usual, so I'm still baffled. If the contact points were dirty or faulty, the notificacion bar would not switch correctly between phones and headset.
I ordered a new headphone jack from eBay and I will inspect it to see if I can push the contact points further to provide better connection and then replace it.

You have to activate the sound when you press the button in the poweramp settings, i had the same problem 3 days ago and that fixed it for me

Hi, and thanks for your input. That Poweramp option I've always had active, since the days of my Galaxy S2.
I'm guessing that it's got to do with the physical contact inside the jack. I've noticed that the mic from several handsfree I've tested does not work either.
