(Q) what kernels are good for 4.4 and up? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey everyone I'm having some problems with 4.4 and finding a kernel that work's with this android version. I used faux123 kernel and the WiFi doesn't work. but I like faux123 because of the color screen and swype2wake. so if someone can help it'd be gladly appreciated

does that support swype2wake?

Bricked is the only kernel. Not compatible with CM though. But who uses CM nowadays?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

I.m using faux. It.s working great on 4.4.2. I used it on 4.4 as well... Did you update the radio?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

i suggested that you try AK kernel. He got both for aosp and cm based. the latest one quite stable
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Try Franco kernel...if that doest do( which is hardly possible) try something called pure kernel for 4.4.....1 of them will surely work...Franco worked for me...

no, this is not what he asked for, franco kernel does not have swype2wake, just double tap to wake which is useless as it goes off in your pocket if your hand is in there as well.
I'm assuming op knows to use trickster mod to turn on the waking feature?.

I found the faux123 29 mainline kernel and it's good but thanks for your guys help

Try minco or rasbean. Doesn't get more stable / smooth than that.

You asked most stable, not most customizable. Disregard minco & rasbean then. None or minimal customization there, just stable & fast.
I would recommend CFX then.

AOKP without Roman

Now that Roman is no longer building AOKP, who is the best alternative?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Where did you get this from? He still builds. You know aokp is a team of developers right?

He posted the other day he was working on toggles so...
I think he made this post just because he hasn't posted an unofficial build since late Jan. Roman is still working on aokp, just be patient.
That's great news, I'd never be able to find the source that said he wasn't building any more but I might be mistaken. I've been using Steve's builds more recently.
Thanks for the replies though folks

Jason, I was thinking, how about the ATT Captivate 4.3 GPS files.I know Slim has a mature build already and the cappy is USA based configurations. Just my 2¢. I can ask PRB for it since he owns one....Lemme know on Hangouts!
The cappy files are exactly the same as the I9000. There should be a way to get it working with the right combo of available files.

[Q] Best Kernel for Project KitKat (KRT16S)?

I was curious if there was a really good kernel for my ROM that I could flash over. That's all!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Franco Kernel and it's companion app is great. So is Faux Kernel and it's companion app.
It's still too early to say, all the kernels are still just taking baby steps with 4.4.

All the above suggested kernels plus AK.207.KK and hells-Core-b42-t4. Each of all the above is a GREAT kernel.
Flash any of them, configure it to your own preferences. Try it for a few days or longer. From the assessment (performance/battery life/smoothness/etc) you'll determine which kernel works BEST for you.

Nexus 4 throttling issue?

I am getting my first nexus 4 soon and I was very excited until I read about the throttling issue it has (or I'm calling it that) i like to game on
Phones and that's why I was planning on fixing it. But if it passes 39c it down clocks everything? If I get a custom kernel and rom will it prevent this? Quadrant scores are really low.. I just hope it performs good. Oh yeah when I am gaming on my HTC Droid incredible 4G Lte if will get 55c cpu and 50-55c battery. And my phone never change clocks. Thanks for any help.

Well, with a custom kernel you can adjust throttling to your likes. My nexus performed better than my dads m7 in 3dmark

Will heat really be an issue with the nexus 4? Like I said above my htc droid incredible 4g lte can get pretty hot and it's fine but I'm not sure about the nexus. It seems 40-55c is okay.

I personally got horrible benchmarks on the N5 Experience. I run stock with Faux kernel with delvik and bionic tweaks. Also the Google now launcher. I installed xPosed frameworks and GravityBox to get all the same features as the other rom but still have incredible performance. Just my experience.
