[Q] OTG Storage and Game Datas - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will I be able to install games to otg sd card If I used it with G2?
I cant afford the extra money for 32 gigs.

Why not put all the pics and audio on the OTG, and install games in phone mem :?

If you root for sure. Not sure it works without too.
I use the Foldermount app now, before I tried one dedicated to games.
But be sure to have a good drive for it. My Asphalt is bit lagging .
Using it on meenova with 32GB Sandisk Ultra something. Not the extreme one ... should have gotten that one ...

Because its not enough space? The 16GB has 10 avalaible. One backup is 3-4GB from TWRP compressed and thats if something goes wrong.
Sygic takes about 3GB too. 1GB for other apps. Left is something under 2GB for data, settings, crap and pics.
Not enough... (At least for me...)

No idea if you can do that like that. But I use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devasque.fmount&hl=en

A linux expert could help you with that. But since this mounts a links the SD card folder to the ext SD should be possible?
If its not with this one, I saw something in xposed for this. You need to browse forums for it.

[REQUEST] App2SD for the S3

Hello, Ive noticed that there's no option to move apps to the SD card with my S3, as there was for the S2. Ive filled my 16gb already, and I bought a 64gb card, hoping to be able to have many of my apps on the SD card, however it seems that this is not possible at the moment.
Are there any plans to resolve this problem? Would this be resolved in the form of a kernel, rom or tweak? Or is it a hardware limitation of the S3 which restricts the application's location?
Thanks

I'm gonna ride with Chainfire on this one, too many GS3 owners saying you can't. But I guess I'll find out for myself once I get it in my hands.
If you are wise, just move your user files to the 64 .gb .sd card. There is already 11.gb of space for apps and still people need to move their apps to external .sd

try link2sd . It will definately work .

Can anybody confirm this? I won't be able to until the 21st at the earliest
I'd like to know as well. What concerns me more is the game data since those are going to be larger files rather than the app itself. ie gameloft games. Are the game data stored in the internal or micro sd card when game data is downloaded?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2
On my acer with 8gb internal storage I used an app called GL to SD but you alway need to run it first and run the games within it. And although that allows game data to be stored in micro sd it doesn't always work for me and sometimes I forget to run it first. I think the best solution for me is the get the 32 fb model.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2
So, according to that article, CM has the problem patched? I have nothing on my internal storage apart from apps, yet its full, nice.

If you installed a lot games with large game data, try GL to SD, that app will store game data (not apps) to your sd. ROOT required. Open GL to SD then run the game you want and it will redownload data but to your sd card. You have to open the game this way everytime though GL to SD so the game knows to use the game data from the card. You can delete the game data in the internal since that won't get used anymore. Should give you a lot more room than app2sd.
You can also move manually the original game data in internal to the sdcard but I don't recall where to move it too. I think under games.

The GL to SD works fine for Nova 3 and Modern Combat 3. Move them using the GL to SD and in the settings of GL to SD check the option /sdcard/Android under add mounted folder. Once done then price mount button the top of GL to SD app and then press menu and exit (don't press unmount and exit otherwise it would not work). This would mount your external SD card as /sdcard/android. If GL to SD fail to move the games to SD card then you can even do it manually by copying games data folder from /sdcard/android/data to /extsdcard/data.
I hope you understand my poor way of explaining things I hope it helps
---------- Post added at 12:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:27 PM ----------
GL to SD works only for the games which install there files in /sdcard/android/data folder or /sdcard/data folder.
link2sd
link2sd works with ext3 partition confirmed.. if you want details contact to me, native app2sd does not work :crying:

Hi,
It's a 4.2.2 "Feature"
It's for the greater good. New generation NAND smokes microSD performance, and you don't wanna bottleneck your device by multitasking from SD. On the other hand 16GB should be dropped entirely, we're talking very minimal cost difference for Samsung, so why not start at 32gigs or 64 and go all the way up to 256? This is HD era, nothing comes in small size.

Hi,
Also the "16GB" is actually only 9.15GB on my phone.
The system eats a fair portion of it.
Before 4.2.2 could you move to sd without rooting then? And will it really kill memory card If i rooted and use folder mount

That's the reason I'm waiting for the 32GB version.
I did the same with the Galaxy S III though I can't understand why they delay the release of the 32GB that much.. I'm pretty sure a lot of people are waiting for that one, right?
And btw, you can put your music on the µSD card, it's just the installed apps that are a problem.
Thanks, yeah you are right. Not sure though if some apps will be smart enough to route downloaded music to my SD card??
While we're at it: My problem is basically the "cloudsync" and more so the "DocumentSync" folder, the latter is > 6 GB large! Anyone knows what that is?
I want to reduce this size, my phone is brand-new!

Swyped from another galaxy
Thanks, indeed. I deactivated all that cloud-syncing nonsense, which solved my problem for now. Now I have a few weeks or months until I have to think again what to do. :-/
Is "Swyped from another galaxy" that a joke on the Samsung Galaxy keyboard system? lol
You're probably looking at 24gb on the 32gb version so a bunch more memory.
Most people will in fact be fine with 9gb though, power users who download a lot of really inefficient apps that cache a lot of things and require a lot of storage should get the 32gb version. I personally will be fine with the 16gb version.
You may be right. I got 2.1 GB of apps for 151 apps, which averages out at 14 MB per app, while I had the feeling that most of my apps are less than 8 MB, oh well. -.-
I won't download any more apps though, but I am sure photographs and stuff will quickly snatch up the remaining 5 GB of space that I freed now...
Will try to find a setting to put my photos on the SD card by default. Any tips (or links to a thread / tutorial about that) are appreciated.

Yeah i am also waiting for the 32GB version because of the same reason.
my htc one s 16gb has 2gb dedicated to apps. for me plenty atm. that's independent of the 9.93 internal sdcard, don't know if s4 is same. however, as mentioned, 16gb phones are too small now days and i won't pay for the s4 till it gets 32gb on att and black--
also don't think i can post links to other forums per xda. but if you google "att 32gb s4", there is a link to an att forum specifically for the 32gb release and an active att moderator--just fyi

Really? cant u save on the sd card by defalut ????
First of all.. If u want to store ur camera photos on sd card use camera zoom fx.. It's a very good camera app and there u can choose where to store the photos
The second.. U have 8,8 gb on stock firmware if u install a custom rom in a few weeks it will be more free space because of some bloatware installed on the stock and files we dont need i think.. Let the dev's do there great job

For photos there's a setting in the camera app which let's you select which storage to use. If it's not there use a file explorer to copy your photos across to your sd card.

Regretting i got the 8GB

How do some of you guys get around with teh 8GB version? I thought 8GB was enough for awhile, but now that i decides to put some games on i ran out of space. In fact i ran out of space as i was about to install teh game from the play store, but it stoped before it can get finished now the game isn't even there it still took up the space that it downloaded. any idea how i can get the space back
I really don't game much, I usually only have one or two installed at a time, I lose interest too quick. 8gb has been more than enough for me. I think you know the answer to your question. Move stuff off your phone that you don't need or uninstall games you don't play.
Not sure if this is gonna help you get that extra space back, but some Apps/Games download files which are stored in your SdCard/storage space.
try looking through /sdcard/Android/Data and see if you see it there and just delete the folder. If not...well i tried.
Don't have an answer for you other than moving stuff off. However to answer your question I get by perfectly fine with my 8gb. In fact I have 2.5 GB still free on mine and I will never fill it. I don't game on my phone (don't have time too) I just use it as a phone and G+ device.
I do hope you find a solution though. You could buy a 16gb then sell the 8 but I am sure you would have done that if you could

I was like you when i first bought it too, but my offline gps takes about 1 gb for my states. Then 2 custom ROM files takes about another gb and that leaves me with about 2 gb left. 1 HD game takes about another GB. The whole phone requires about 1 GB(remaining) to function normally (for camera/video features). It would also resttrict all syncing when u run under 500MB. It's rather frustrating Google didn't offer the it as a 16GB as a minimum.
I personally think the microSD option is a great idea. I don't know why so many companies abandoned it.
You're welcome haha. I went through the samething before and learned myself that some files are stored on the phone even if you uninstall the app. Hope you don't mind clicking the thank button

Cost basically. Its cheaper to manufacture without it. To keep a lower price point in the N4 (and well, the other Nexus devices), the added features of other phones (such as microSD support) are removed. Fortunately, devices are starting to ship with more internal storage (like the HTC One and S4), so I suspect the next Nexus phone will see somewhat more. Of course, if the rumors are true, there may very well be a new version of the N4 announced at I/O. We'll see.
For me it is enough. +20 songs, gta III and vice city, almost 50 apps and their backups. But hey, I'll love the 16 gb even when I'm happy with 8.
Just don't keep all the zips from nightlies of the roms

Yeah, the cloud is nice, but what about those who pay outrageous prices for their data? or those located in an area with terrible data speeds? Streaming isn't really an option because of the cost and/or buffering for those two examples. Personally, 16GB isn't enough for me at all. I have 35GB of music on my computer and while it's also uploaded to Google Music, I prefer not to stream to keep my costs down. I managed to cut my synced music down to 7GB of my most favourite tunes, so that still barely leaves me with 5GB for apps (I have about 100), pictures, games, and other misc. storage... It's pretty tight to manage, so 32GB or even 64GB would be a preferable option for me. I love everything else about the N4, so I try to live with just 16GB, but it's really quite low by today's standards. Google should have known this (and I know they do, but they just want to push their cloud services... this is old news by now)
I have the 16GB, two nandroids (one stock, one backup), 1GB of music, some pictures and a few casual games.
Left with 6GB. can't imagine life with the 8GB.
I been using drop box, it works for me.

I don't plan on storing a lot of stuff on my phone, have my Nexus 10 for that But I ordered a 8GB N4 just now.
I know when I had my 8GB N7 (now currently discontinued), I found it a pain to hold everything I wanted. Hopefully, I won't find the need to store so much on the N4.
The games I play, eg not FPS, don't take up much room so as of right now I have 4.58gb free.

Tablets are different IME, I store a bunch of comic books, books and video on my ipad so the 16gb got eaten up quickly. I don't do any of that on my n4, podcasts are on there and pics...that's about it.
I have the 8gb and loads of 1gb+ games on it, what's my secret? Delete the core file of the game when not playing and upon reopening the app it asks you to redownload it and ta-da all your data is still there!
BTW the 50gb box is use full to save carbon (renamed to helium) backups if you use 7 archiver to shrink it into 200mb zips

If you just need space for media consider getting a wireless drive as an alternative to cloud storage.

[Q] USB OTG on G2

Hi Guys,
I'm getting a 16GB LG G2 and was wondering how USB OTG works? Can I use a micro-USB to SD card adapter while using USB OTG? I guess it should work...
The one I have the idea of using is this. Its just easier for me as I already have a micro SD card and its less bulky then lets say as flash drive...

Similar... there are. Saw some knock offs. But rather go with quality I would say.
Check even in here, saw some threads.
And the second question. Yes I guess. There are also hacks, mods for rooted phones.
Maybe some native apps too. But did not yet check them out.
Also, since it's USB 2 it's max 30MBs, rather yet lower. Depending on the sd as well. As such might not be suitable for a full hd bla bla extreme video.

Or here http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=micro+usb+otg+card+reader

None of them are as compact as meenova... Any luck finding one of a similar size? I can only afford these knock offs.. Really broke now and need more storage...I already have a micro SD card u see...
type meenova in your browser its a great way to use your micro sd cards and with say es file manager or other you can move, copy files to and from your micro sd card it supports upto 32gb I think but not tried it with anything higher-the "meenova is about 10-15 dollars and it comes from hong kong so it took about a week to get here you can track it if you want -I think it looks a lot better than a usb stick stuck out of the bottom !
didn't see the post above sorry
here's a good stuff for you, a micro sd card reader in a very small size, up to 64gb, a lil bit expensive if you compare it with those big sized made in china card reader on ebay
shopmeenova dot appspot dot com
This is so much better than my it cable with a thumb drive hanging off it.hope it works on LG G2!
Thanks guys.

I know about meenova but isn't there something cheaper and as small? Been googling everywhere but can't find anything as good...

I've not found anything else that does the job as neatly and its not that expensive-you can plug a mini usb to female usb cable and use a usb stick but it looks ****
I've found this...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Micro-USB...ory_Card_Readers_Adapters&hash=item2ecba32db5
Its called something like Kawau C310 480Mbps USB2.0 OTG TF Card Reader ... I personally like it but it ships from China... Is there no way to get it somewhere here in UK quick? I really don't want to get Meenova as I can't justify 9 quid for this...Although its looking more and more like I will have to get it...

[Q] How do I move my installed apps to my SD Card?

Kinda dumb question here. But how can I move my installed apps to my 32GB Micro SD card plugged into the back of my MOJO?

Hi the thread already exist please suppress this one and next time search a little there is just two page ...
There are two apps I have used that do this fairly easily. Try either App2SD or Link2SD. Both do the same thing. I also believe AppMonster does, but I've never used it for this purpose. If they say you cannot move an app, it is probably because the MOJO sets the external microSD in a way that it is detected as emulated rather than physical. As I've yet to get a microSD to work at all, I cannot tell what the problem is...I just know from experience on the Acer A700 that -it- is set up so you cannot send apps to the microSD.

Well I tried both apps to move my games...with no luck. None of them can be moved to the SD card with those apps. It's BS if you can only have 16GB to store games. I'm already filled up. Grrr. Its one thing after another.

? Its not like I posted those all at the same time. I didn't know there was a limit to how much you could post in one thread! Baha
Most high end games are 500mb - 1gb or more. I like to play a lot of different games you know? Just kind of sucks that we can't move them to expandable storage at the moment. 16 GB is not going to be enough in the future when more games become compatible.

Yeah, I filled mine with Horn, Bard's Tale, AvP, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Reaper, and about ten random others. I've filled my tablet, and it's got 32GB. I loves me some games.
