Deleting Bloatware ERROR!!

Im new to forum but Ive been trolling for the past couple days. I currently rooted my Vibrant with One Click GalaxyRooter. Then purchased Root Explorer to view the hidden files and folders that I need to get to in order to remove some of the stock .apk and odex files.
Im currently in the /system/app directory and the first thing that I want to remove is that avatar icon and files. I long press the file in root explorer to delete it and it allows me to. Only problem is that when I go back or refresh the directory everything is still there even when I reboot my phone.
Any suggestion.

When using Root Explorer, on the top part of the screen, press [Mount R/O] and try again. I think that might solve the issue. Post up the results!

Forget what I said, use Mater's method. lol

I do see the Mount R/O in the top right hand section of the screen and I pressed it but it seems like it didnt do anything. It just shows my memory used / free and r/w [ Mount R/O]
I tried deleting a file still was there when I came back into the directory

You don't access the file directory. Titanium Backup will show you a list of ALL apps installed. You simply click and press uninstall. Simple, no fuss. You can even make a backup before you uninstall it in case you need it later. Done.

Use Titanium Backup like everyone said, I also had the same problem with other Root Explorers. Also be sure to delete the .zip file because it might cause problems later. Also do you know what trolling means? I think you meant lurking, because trolling implies you've been trying to get people angry.

I didn't even notice he said he had been trolling LOL. Get back troll! My brain automatically assumed lurking.

Your system is set to read only.
Follow the instructions found in this post (forgive me i'm too new to post links, and i want to give credit to the solution):

Flash this with ClockWorkMod.... this is for any Pre Gingerbread ROM.... ie TNT anything, VEGAn 5.1.1 and below, Zpad anything, GAdam anything.
This is not necessary for any ROMS based off Gingerbread AOSP or CM7. Including VEGAn-TAB Experimentals.

I checked out the zip and it just adds a blank text file (0 bytes) called profile to the /system/bin folder. So I am not sure what the fix is?

Edit. I just installed the lookout app to scan my tab, everything was fine and then, i un-installed it since it was running on the background and taking 10% of the cpu..

I'd curious to see what all the vendors are going to do about this. Granted, they could just say that the Market is not there, but regardless the security hole is still there and needs to be plugged up.

I hope that this isn't too offtopic, but I was trying to create /system/bin/profile using a term and su, and when i went into root explorer to make /system/bin R/W, root explorer showed the dir as R/W already, and as mounted on /dev/loop9.
Is that normal?
I haven't installed dataloop, at least intentionally, so it seems strange that /system/bin would be mounted there, plus it being R/W by default?
FYI, I use z4root to get temp root. Could that be why /system/bin is R/W?
Then again, that wouldn't explain the /dev/loop9 mount ...

Hi,
Creating the profile file manually, it wouldn't persist,i.e., it was gone after rebooting, so I installed gojimi's zip usung CWM, and that worked.
I also did a mount w/o getting temp root, and /system/bin is not on /dev/loop9, so I'm guessing that when z4root sets temp root, it might be remounting /system/bin on /dev/loop9 itself.

You would have to download one of those sketchy apps to really be affected anyways, right? Who would do that?!

Appreciate the patch. This highlights the two problems with android though, google fixed this security issue in 2.2.2, but most carriers still haven't released that update. And the market needs some oversight, not authoritarian apple like, but some.

Please read the thread completely, it is stated you can download lookout security to run a scan to see if you are infected.

downloading.....see what happens

There is a DroidDreamKiller app that allows you to check to see if you are already infected and install the patch. There is also a beta test app that gives you other information. Just search the market for DroidDreamKiller.

Use home to select.
Navigate to where you saved zip file
Select it with home button

USA 1.141.07 update fix with. .img's

5. Enjoy the fact your device is back to stock and you can now update when future updates release.
To push the files you will need adb shell. If you dont know what that is look it up, It is part of the android development kit. Second these 2 commands will push the files to their proper mount block. You must push the boot.img first then the system.img These files are for the USA update 1.141.07

** Alright guys I am just posting this link for when you just do the update.zip because you are already on 1.104.05_COM_GEN1 and you have a different kernel then the update.zip, What will happen is when you reboot the tablet from just doing the update.zip you may have WIFI error. These files should resolve that issue. Once again they are only if you have WIFI Error on reboot. To install these you will need some type of file explorer that has rw access to the file system. I rec. Root Explorer. To install these follow these instructions.
1. Copy both modules to your SD card does not matter where.
2. With your File Explorer/Manager Copy both of these files. (Root Explorer will let you multi-select if you hit the menu button.)
3. Navigate to System/Lib/Modules.
4. **This step is very important- You must Mount your System for RW access. If you don't they will not copy. Once you have RW just hit the paste button and then reboot your device.
5. **This step is for anyone still having wifi error after reboot. (Stop being lazy lol and just do all the steps. From the top by mounting the boot.img and system.img that way your device is 100% stock there for no checksum issues.

Had a German 1.112 build i guess, bricked it and revocered it with Acer_A500_1.122.01_EMEA_GEN5. Used boot and system image and then updated and it really works!!! Thank you very very very much!!!
EDIT1: I even not lost my settings and can set the language to German too!!
EDIT2: Root gone (as expected), used Gingerbreak (tab version) and everything works fine.

well the only thing I can think of it either the lib modules for wifi are messed up in which case I can post a link with them or the kernel is different. I would use the 2 .img that I posted then use the update zip. That way the images replace your kernel which is always the root cause of wifi errors.

here is a link to the wifi lib modules. You need to use something like root explorer. To mount the system as rw. Then navigate to system/lib/modules and copy those two files into there with the system mounted as rw. Reboot and see if it fixes the issue!!

Yes you are now stock and able to update when they release 3.1

dont we need to flash flexrom.img to be 100% stock?

Maybe some file corruption?! Loaded per the directions and on boot got error:
"Secure Boot Image LNX checksum fail"
Going back to the Chinese Rom.

You get that only when do don't do all three'. Once you reboot after pushing the 2 images. You have to hold down the volume - and the power button it will then run the update zip to complete.

re-compiled power.shamu.so to re-enable double tap to wake. (no root required)

This solution works for anyone that doesn't want to root their device.
however required a unlocked boot loader.
you can use TWRP file manager to replace below files. (hence not needing root).
(or someone can kindly create a flashable)
I have recomplied the power.shamu.so (replacing the missing codes from https://android.googlesource.com/device/moto/shamu/+/2084f7d0cf50baf394759d175bc28ad80cf7cace^!/ )
What this does is also re-enable the double-tap to wake.
to use,
backup a copy of
/system/lib/hw/power.shamu.so
then copy the attached power.shamu.so to /system/lib/hw/
change the permission of power.shamu.so to 0644
then boot your device. volia... you now have double tap to wake again.
Note. this has been tested with my own nexus 6.

You can do it from recovery which has system access even if the ROM doesnt have root privileges.
What I am wondering though is if you can use fastboot to simply boot recovery without flashing it, and would you be able to do that command without unlocking the bootloader? Or does booting a custom system file require it to be unlocked?

Idea is just like rooting.
You need to some how replace the power.shamu.so once, and thats it.
Some people dont like phones to be rooted, as some software are really particular with root such as 'good for ent' or banking app. Idea is so that these people can still have doible tap to wake.
Hence you require a unlocked boot loader.
Eg, i guess i can also repack the file to a flashable zip, then user can just flash from recovery.
Note, i found that your tap needs to be quite consistant (can't be too fast or slow. There is a specific window)

Don't think there is such feature. One you Mentioned is ambient display which I choose to switch off. As I believe it might detect lots of false pick up.

I would like to change the boot animation on my Verizon G4, but I'm scared to without TWRP. I was curious if any of you braver souls have done so successfully yet?

You won't be able to without a recovery

Ah, ok. I thought all you had to do was use something like Root Browser to move a new Bootanimation.zip to the System Media folder.

Not sure if it works that way, but I def wouldn't try it haha

well.. worst case.. you cant boot back into system and have to reflash the system.img thru download mode. keep the rooted system.img on internal sdcard for any risky changes. then ur only a few minutes away from a fix. but as long as u set the proper permissions on the files you're replacing it should go ok and you wont even run into this worst case situation.
with that said.. I don't own the vzw model so I havent swapped theirs out specifically.. but I have changed my boot ani on my h815. if you're not sure which permissions you need to set on the file... just view the permissions of the original file thru rootexplorer/es file explorer... then set those back to your new file afterwards.

Just rename the old bootanimation zip to .bak move the one you want into place and change permissions to 644 in root browser.
Unless the boot loader checks file sizes and signatures which I doubt for the boot animations.

Yeah, I tried it yesterday. It bootlooped twice then booted with no bootanimation. YMMV

Your permissions were wrong you want them to be 644.
I used solid explorer on my T-Mobile unit to remove that gods awful boot sound and install the nexus boot animation, forgot to set permissions and that's what happened boot without animation

i did the same. the goddamn at&t poweron.ogg is annoying as hell.

Yeah, I have liveboot running, and a wireframe spinning android dude animation in the background. Little more interesting than the default.

I got brave and decided to try out some boot animations I downloaded the other day from a G3 Boot Animation thread.
I moved them with Root Browser and made sure to set permissions to 644 and it worked!
For some reason though the one I download of the Super heroes that change? Maybe you know what I'm talking about. Had it on Nexus 6 and it was fast and fluid. On the G4 here it was in slow motion and stuttering. Don't know if that's a fault of the -G4 or the source file though.
Bottom line, changing the Bootanimation.zip manually works just fine as long as you remember to set the permissions.

Sure you can. I did just that on a rooted AT&T version. Used Root Explorer, renamed existing file to .orig. Copied new file from SD card. rebooted, and boom.

Changed my bootanimation the minute we got root. Using the stock LG instead of the Verizon one.

Worked great. I use the LG G3 Matrix Boot Animation found here on xda. Couldn't find any shutdown Animation. Renamed BOTH (bootanimation and shutdown Animation from zip to zip.back). Works great. No Shutdown Animation anymore is just fine with me! [emoji1]

For some reason though the one I download of the Super heroes that change? Maybe you know what I'm talking about. Had it on Nexus 6 and it was fast and fluid. On the G4 here it was in slow motion and stuttering. Don't know if that's a fault of the -G4 or the source file though..

Did you remember to set the Stick Bit? If not, does it help with the stuttering?

Not sure what the Stick Bit is.

Set/change the permissions... how do you do that? I have and use root explorer, first thing i did with root was remove a lot of UI sounds entirely (.bak for their original files) includingthe startup sounds.

In root explorer long press the file and in the pop up select permissions. 0644 looks like a backwards 7 in the checkboxes.
