Alright Guys in the USA. I will be posting the .img files to fix your device or update your device to 1.141.07 if you have either used the chinese update fix or some other various fix that left you with a different boot image. The instructions are simple.
1. Connect your tablet to the computer via USB. Put the boot.img and the system.img on your SD Card. Also put the Update.zip then use a file explorer to move the update.zip to the root of your SD card. Which is external SD. If you use Astro. (Alternatively you can just take your SD card out and put it in your computer to put the update.zip.)
2. You need to first push the boot.img
-Open ADB type su then hit enter. (your device will prompt for superuser you must select allow) Then enter the command below.
dd if=/sdcard/boot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (hit Enter)
3. Then push the system.img
dd if=/sdcard/system.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3
4. Force shutdown your device when those finish (as your screen may not turn on.)Then hold volume - and the power button "until the green android comes up very important do not let them go just because the device turns on" to start the update.zip. Let it finish (Your device will reboot when it completes.
5. Enjoy the fact your device is back to stock and you can now update when future updates release.
To push the files you will need adb shell. If you dont know what that is look it up, It is part of the android development kit. Second these 2 commands will push the files to their proper mount block. You must push the boot.img first then the system.img These files are for the USA update 1.141.07

** Alright guys I am just posting this link for when you just do the update.zip because you are already on 1.104.05_COM_GEN1 and you have a different kernel then the update.zip, What will happen is when you reboot the tablet from just doing the update.zip you may have WIFI error. These files should resolve that issue. Once again they are only if you have WIFI Error on reboot. To install these you will need some type of file explorer that has rw access to the file system. I rec. Root Explorer. To install these follow these instructions.
1. Copy both modules to your SD card does not matter where.
2. With your File Explorer/Manager Copy both of these files. (Root Explorer will let you multi-select if you hit the menu button.)
3. Navigate to System/Lib/Modules.
4. **This step is very important- You must Mount your System for RW access. If you don't they will not copy. Once you have RW just hit the paste button and then reboot your device.
5. **This step is for anyone still having wifi error after reboot. (Stop being lazy lol and just do all the steps. From the top by mounting the boot.img and system.img that way your device is 100% stock there for no checksum issues.

Thank you thor2002ro for posting these on your kernel modules thread. Which is found here for anyone having any other issues.

thanks so much for this. to verify my build number is 1.141.07_COM_GEN1 is that right?
Success! This worked like a charm! I didn't have to use the recovery img I just used the update.zip.
After update:
Kernel: g9b3ce2b
Build: Acer_A500_1.141.07_COM_GEN1
Good work and thanks!
edit: Actually I guess I do have one issue right now. After the update my wifi stopped working. When I go to the wifi settings I see "Error" under Wi-Fi and the check box is grayed out so that it can't be clicked. Any help?
Had a German 1.112 build i guess, bricked it and revocered it with Acer_A500_1.122.01_EMEA_GEN5. Used boot and system image and then updated and it really works!!! Thank you very very very much!!!
EDIT1: I even not lost my settings and can set the language to German too!!
EDIT2: Root gone (as expected), used Gingerbreak (tab version) and everything works fine.

well the only thing I can think of it either the lib modules for wifi are messed up in which case I can post a link with them or the kernel is different. I would use the 2 .img that I posted then use the update zip. That way the images replace your kernel which is always the root cause of wifi errors.
here is a link to the wifi lib modules. You need to use something like root explorer. To mount the system as rw. Then navigate to system/lib/modules and copy those two files into there with the system mounted as rw. Reboot and see if it fixes the issue!!

Maybe some file corruption?! Loaded per the directions and on boot got error:
"Secure Boot Image LNX checksum fail"
Going back to the Chinese Rom.
You get that only when do don't do all three'. Once you reboot after pushing the 2 images. You have to hold down the volume - and the power button it will then run the update zip to complete.

What if I think I was infected? Completely wipe your device, format sdard, go back to stock and re-apply rom, then flash the attached .zip (before installing any apps)
Why should I care? read below...

Flash this with ClockWorkMod.... this is for any Pre Gingerbread ROM.... ie TNT anything, VEGAn 5.1.1 and below, Zpad anything, GAdam anything.
This is not necessary for any ROMS based off Gingerbread AOSP or CM7. Including VEGAn-TAB Experimentals.
Be Safe.
Even More Details here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...-android-nightmare-and-weve-got-more-details/
I checked out the zip and it just adds a blank text file (0 bytes) called profile to the /system/bin folder. So I am not sure what the fix is?
**EDIT** Nevermind it is a dummy file meant to prevent the virus. Thanks to the OP for providing this.

Edit. I just installed the lookout app to scan my tab, everything was fine and then, i un-installed it since it was running on the background and taking 10% of the cpu..
Anyways, a nice app that can be used to do a quick scan..
I don't have a stock gtab but I'll ask anyways... how can our stock rom users be protected? Is there an alternate method?

I'd curious to see what all the vendors are going to do about this. Granted, they could just say that the Market is not there, but regardless the security hole is still there and needs to be plugged up.
Hi,
I hope that this isn't too offtopic, but I was trying to create /system/bin/profile using a term and su, and when i went into root explorer to make /system/bin R/W, root explorer showed the dir as R/W already, and as mounted on /dev/loop9.
Is that normal?
I haven't installed dataloop, at least intentionally, so it seems strange that /system/bin would be mounted there, plus it being R/W by default?
FYI, I use z4root to get temp root. Could that be why /system/bin is R/W?
Then again, that wouldn't explain the /dev/loop9 mount ...

Hi,
Creating the profile file manually, it wouldn't persist,i.e., it was gone after rebooting, so I installed gojimi's zip usung CWM, and that worked.
I also did a mount w/o getting temp root, and /system/bin is not on /dev/loop9, so I'm guessing that when z4root sets temp root, it might be remounting /system/bin on /dev/loop9 itself.
Jim
You would have to download one of those sketchy apps to really be affected anyways, right? Who would do that?!
Appreciate the patch. This highlights the two problems with android though, google fixed this security issue in 2.2.2, but most carriers still haven't released that update. And the market needs some oversight, not authoritarian apple like, but some.

Hello guys. Is there a way to find out if our tablet is infected or not?
I mean if we have installed any of the apps in the list that automatically means that we are infected or not?
If infected what is preferred to do wipe the tablet or go back to stock rom??
Is there any manual for windows 7 noobies users?
Thanks.

There is a DroidDreamKiller app that allows you to check to see if you are already infected and install the patch. There is also a beta test app that gives you other information. Just search the market for DroidDreamKiller.

Greetings,
Okay, so I endeavoured to root my phone last night and was successful. I ran into trouble when the clockwork recovery and superuser permissions kept getting removed each time I rebooted the phone. This morning, I tried to restore the superuser permissions by following the steps I found here on xda but after running the terminal script I rebooted my phone and when my phone wouldn't boot beyond the Google screen.
Now, I'm at the Google splash screen with no way to move forward. I'm a mac user and I don't really get the adb thing. Got adb to work with mac from a youtube video, but still not sure what commands to run.
I can't access clockwork recovery from the bootloader.
What I've done so far:
- wiped cache
- wiped/factory data reset
- retraced my steps by using terminal to setup superuser permission from this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=927838)
What I think:
- maybe in all of my clicks I removed the ROM, so the phone doesn't have a ROM to work with.
This maybe a really infantile conclusion, but I know there's a solution (had a rooted G1 that I flashed all the time and thought I bricked once but was able to get it back to stock).
Eagerly waiting for a reply... no cell phone if this can't be fixed.
Tamaratee

then we'll continue from there.

If your bootloader is already unlocked, you can skip those steps.
Do steps 8-9 to copy this file over to your USB drive.
http://devsforandroid.com/ip.board/index.php?/files/file/94-stock-deodexed-233-voodoo-rooted/
This rom is Master's Stock 2.3.3 ROM that is already rooted which should get you up and running.
Unmount, go back. Wipe system data, wipe cache. Go to advanced, Wipe Dalvik-cache.
Go back, choose to install zip from SD card. Locate Master's stock ROM. Flash that.
In the end, you'll have a stock deodexed rom that is rooted. Keep in mind that you will lose all your data, but that at least puts you back on track.
Also wanted to mention if you didn't already know, mac scripts are run with a "./" in front of them. So to use the adb command you would do something like, "./adb reboot bootloader" after you have changed your directory to the folder that contains the sdk files.

I feel bad for being a stickler here, but this is only true if he has not added the location of the binaries to the PATH. ./ just specifies to start in the local directory rather than look to the PATH to search for the file, it's not a requirement for running a script.

Thank you so much! I got stuck on the Android ! boot screen and couldn't get the OS to boot after stupidly screwing up permissions after I rooted. I downloaded your zip, renamed it to update.zip and loaded it on a microsd card. Then I put the card in, booted the tablet while holding volume down and recovery loaded the system image and I'm back in business. It did come with a few apps loaded into system I'm not familiar with including a few that weren't in English. Will a factory reset remove those, does anyone know?

Hi all!
First off, I'm new to xda Developers so please excuse me if this is in the wrong forum! I thought I'd post information about a tool I wrote here which roots stock 4.0.3 leak on the A500, A501 and assumingly the A200 too. Its literally one click - just enable USB debugging. "ICS Root" also installs, optionally, FaceLock and Trebuchet (although FaceLock doesn't want to work. It lets you set it up though =P)
Since version 5.0.1 this also now works with the new 0.022.00 leak!
The full post is over at TegraOwners: http://forum.tegraowners.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=350
The only real system requirements are Windows (with .Net Framework 4) and an Iconia on the stock 4.0.3 leak. I hope somebody finds this useful its been tested by myself and a couple of TegraOwners users and it works well.
In terms of the technique used, it uses the great Jay Freeman's mempodroid exploit to gain root at which point it mounts /system rw and installs su, busybox and Superuser.apk so no real surprises there. Installing Trebuchet adds that apk to /system/app and installing FaceLock installs the apk to /system/app before installing the pittpatt folder to the flexrom (mounted as /system/vendor). I plan to open source it when all the requested features have been implemented and the code has been cleaned up.
Thanks!

if you are on the new boot loader as in the full non modded leak.. It will give you secure boot error ..

The strange thing is that Root Check says it is rooted, File Explorer HD accepts putting it into Root Explore, but that is it. It is odd. I will try to reapply the Root to see if that makes a difference.

Please, read the op before bringing this up. This method is for half root, its the only way possible right now on stock leak ics. There is a special script you need to use to mpunt system. You can find it in the stock leak thread, run it in terminal or use rom toolbox and set it as a script to run at boot because rebooting loses write privileges.

Sorry for offending you and whoever else it did. Thank you for pointing that script out in that post. My intent was to offer a second comment to your assessment..

I have a better script which I'll be releasing as an update to the root app this morning hopefully. It'll be a terminal command to remount rw.

Version 3 came out this morning
It features some bug fixes as well as a completely new remount menu which mounts /system rw properly on the fly. Tested with a busybox installer app
Enjoy!
Thanks for your tool blackthund3r !
I tried it with the new leak from this morning and it doesn't seem to work anymore
Edit :
Just to be a little more specific, the app says the process was OK and state that the tablet is rooted but the tablet doesn't reboot by itseld and su is not installed. I tried to install su manually but it's unable to find a previous su package on the system.

ah okay it appears a completely new leak has been released. It is possible that the mempodroid exploit has been patched up. I'm gonna look into it soon. I can't much tonight - I have school work. I'll see what can be done and what the differences between leaks are.

EDIT: mempodroid hasn't been patched See ICS Root v3.1
Hi blackthund3r
Thanks for the update 3.1 but could you please fix the problem on your hosting website? clicking on this file send to an error warning.
The other files can be downloaded though.
can someone post a mirror to the 3.1 version? current link is not working.
can somebody also confirm, if i root with this tool, i will be able to reinstall my clockworkmod recovery through 'acer recovery installer' and flash any other cwm rom? or do i have to downgrade to honeycomb 3.01, install iconiaroot for honeycomb and then acer recovery installer?
Gersma,
I'll be able to answer to your question as soon as I'll be able to download this tool and test it.
So after lots of flashing of different roms on my Moto G 2nd gen (XT1068) I ended up unable to turn WIFI on in any rom, including stock!
Thing is, after days of breaking my head with this, I figured out I was missing the WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin file from the /Persist folder.
How did that file go missing and why it was not restored when restoring to stock or flashing roms? Dam good question, I don't have an answer to that yet, BUT, I have a fix.
Simply download the attached .rar, unzip it, and manually put the WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin file in your /Persist folder using any root explorer / file manager on your device and reboot!
Such a simple little thing gave me so much trouble, hope this will help future users who might face the same problem, as I already saw around that other people are also having the same issue.
This should work for any Moto G version, even the 2013 model, XT1063, XT1064, XT1068, XT1069, all share the same WIFI file.
Happy surfing on your now working WIFI!
Nice Work!
I have that file in /persists but still no WiFi.

Most likely its the perms issue. If you have 'adb' and can connect to the phone using adb, do this:
adb logcat -d -v time | grep "avc: denied"
right after a fresh start. If the file shows up in that grep, it means that you are running into permissions issue. And it can be fixed if you have root.
Where cn i find persist folder... ??? I m using CM12

You could just root again. Using super su you can unroot using the super su app after you finish the fix.

I also tried to reload the stock boot.iso but that did not help me in this case. In the end what fixed this issue for me was to wipe the phone and load cyanogen mod 12.1.
I downloaded the following files to my phones SDCARD before starting the process below.
cm-12.1-20150816-NIGHTLY-titan-recovery.img
cm-12.1-20150816-NIGHTLY-titan.zip
gapps-5.1-arm-2015-07-17-13-29.zip
0) reboot into fastboot
1) fastboot flash recovery cm-12.1-20150816-NIGHTLY-titan-recovery.img (this was done from the command line on my Mac, and that file was on my Mac at the time)
2) reboot into recovery
3) choose "Wipe data / Factory Reset"
4) choose "Apply Update" -> "Choose From SDCARD1 -> "cm-12.1-20150816-NIGHTLY-titan.zip"
at this point I rebooted but could have probably installed GAPPS right away. The wifi was working again at this point!
5) choose "Apply Update" -> "Choose From SDCARD1 -> "gapps-5.1-arm-2015-07-17-13-29.zip"
I think I will stick with CM for now. I've used it in the past and it was fine.

WiFi turns off instantly I try to turn it on
I have the same issue like you guys, and i've already try to copy the file to the /persist folder, with all the permissions... and nothing but error message pop ups (I can't modify the files in the folder, but accidently I erase one of the WCNSS files. It doesn't make any sense)
I've also tried to install the stock firmware to my XT1068, several ROMs with LP 5.0.2, 5.1, etc (everytime doing wipe cache and data); and the issue is still going.
What can I do? Downgrade to KK can restore all the missing files?
Maybe I can copy a /persist folder entirely with all the files... I don't know.
I'm running out of ideas! And I don't want to live with the idea of 'no-wifi' in such an excellent phone! :crying:
Thanks for your time, guys!
