Replacing internal SD card? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Back in the day when I was using WP7, I managed to replace the INTERNAL SD cards on an HD7 and a Surround with larger capacity cards, is this possible with the N3?

there is an SDCard Slot in the Note 3, why would you want to hack the Intenal??

note3 internal memory is hard-wired (soldered), and no common micro-sd! so forget it!

Thanks! I didn't want to actually do it (per se) just wanted to know if it was possible - the reason I discovered that it was possible with the two HTC handsets was that the wife's Surround's internal card failed (must have burnt out) and I figured it out and replaced it, and then upgraded the memory of the HD7 the same way- People worry about memory in phones so I wondered why people don't just upgrade the internal storage, thanks for explaining

Problem: MicroSD missing on boot.

Hi guys,
I'm having a weird issue with my HTC Aria,
the micro SD card I'm using goes missing from time to time especially after boot. The system just refuses to see it, a physical eject and reinsert of the card is enough to get it to read for a while until it dissappears or until I reboot.
I've already tried formatting the card with the PC and in the phone, neither of which has helped the situation. Has anyone got some other tips of what I should do to sort this problem out.
Manually removing the card 3-4 times a day gets quite tiresome.
.
Is it a Class 2 SDHC memory? A friend was having similar problems with an 8GB card of those characteristics and the phone didnt recognized it, not even after eject and re-insert. Try if the same happens with a SDHC of bigger class (speed)
Actually its a class 4, it does it every restart

Have you tried another card to narrow your issue down to card or phone?

I tried a 2gb Samsung card, like the free one you get with the phone. That had no issues, so it looks like my Kingston 8gb is faulty.

Ok it seemed the card wasn't the issue, but rather the type of ext partition. Ext2 wasnt working but ext 3 was

And this is why removable storage is not always good

My sd card died all of a sudden. No warning, just a damaged sd card notification and it can't be mounted. It wasn't cheap and I really didn't even use it that much, this is the 2nd time this has happened.
I lost all my media, nandroids, dta2sd apps, pictures. Some of that is backed up but not the recent stuff.
Since I didn't even use the full 16GB, I will in future prefer a phone with 16GB memory even if it has no sdcard. Internal memory is faster and more reliable.

EXACTLY.
And if the data on the card was that important to you, you should have had a backup of it.
One example implies truth?
So internal > external because your external stopped working?
What would you say to someone who says external > internal because their internal stopped working?
One is easily fixed (buy a new SD card), one is not easily fixed (buy a new phone).
This thread makes me sad.
Well if you just use internal, wouldn't that be even worse if it was damaged?

I read it was cheap also the first time.
I really don't care for SD slots I would much rather have a removable battery.

Just an fyi if internal dies phone is perma bricked, ask the 200 or so ppl who fried their emmc chips(internal storage/rom) on the et4g by wiping in recovery while on an ics kernel. The partition structure has changed and when wiping on a leaked ics kernel it would damage the partition causing a perm brick that even jtag couldn't save. So internal=/=external. External is replaceable, internal damage = dead phone/paperweight.

Sd card has 16 gb but only 896 mb shown?

My SanDisk sd card has 16 gb on it but on S4 and all devices it has only 896 mb? How can I fix it? Already tried reformatting.

Google search "counterfeit sd card". Maybe that is the issue.
Or if you have a windows 8 PC with an SD card reader and a full size SD card adaptor, try using the built in "Disk Management" utility to see the actual room on the card and to reclaim it if it is there.

they pretty much are I never had an issue with them just exchange it if you just got it and test it while your still in the store..
I have read about the San Disks having issues with this phone. Forget where. The 64gb Samsung solved those issues. They didn't talk about smaller Samsung cards. And don't remember if it was only a certain size San Disk card.

The OP said the card reported limited storage on other devices as well, but didn't say what other devices, so I'm thinking it is a problem with the card in general this time.
i'm running a Sandisk 64gb right now for about a yr had it in my S3 and now in my S4 and a 32gb sandisk before this one no issues

sdcard goes bad

I just lost my second 32gb class 10 Sandsk SD card in the S4. I didn't take the card out our do anything special. The card is now unrecognized in my computer and phone. This is the second SD card I lost. Any ideas on what may be causing this and how to possibly repair a card that isn't recognized?

Try a card reader and pop it in a computer. Mine went unrecognized after a hefty download from the play market failed. So I copied everything off it and put it back in. And it worked. After backup if ur pc sees everything u can format it even once in the phone. Good luck

Just ordered a SanDisk 32GB sd card also except mine is class 4... wonder what the difference is, hope it doesn't happen to me :fingers-crossed:
It is disturbing at the cost of these. Fortunately I have a backup that isn't too old and I decided not to move all my apps to the SDCard.

The class is a speed rating.
A class 10 is 2.5 times faster than a class 4 at reading from and writing to the card.
I have just lost my second 32 gig. Lots of data lost. Can this be coincidence. I am worried and will start to back up the next mem card for piece of mind. I will guess the first one worked for 1 year and the second for 2 hope thurd times the charm.

(SGP321) exFAT supported in 4.2.2

exFAT is now supported in 4.2.2!
Formatted my 64gb MicroSD to exFAT on my PC and currently copying a 6gb movie file to SD Card.
yeah, i read in sony forums
atleast they listened
Thank you for sharing! This is great news. Now I am just waiting for the update to arrive.

ExFAT, if im not mistaken is a memory card format that allows faster read write speeds and overall data quality improvement. Most higher capacity cards use it out of the box and consumers generally like the format better, not that you will see the difference.

It means easy acces from Windows machines (that do not read EXT), better free space allocation, but the most important features are that larger drive sizes are possible and there's no noticable file size restriction (FAT is limited to about 4GB max size per file, meaning you cannot copy a 6 or 8 GB movie to a FAT formatted drive).
One of the reasons I chose this tablet. Eagerly awaiting the update for the WIFI only version (SGP312)
I dont have the update, and I am using exfat

WiFi only models always had exFAT support. It was the LTE models that were missing exFAT support.
So does it support 64gb micro sd? I need to get one, however official sony pages write that SGP321 supports up to 32gb only.

I have the WI-FI only model and use a class 10, 64gb card with no problems.

That's the deal. As on wifi models sony states that max card is 64gb, while LTE version has 32gb. And I could not figure out what could be the reason for that. And as I don't have 64gb card around to try or on, it's kind of risky to get that without being 100% sure that it will work properly.
