And this is why removable storage is not always good - EVO 4G General

My sd card died all of a sudden. No warning, just a damaged sd card notification and it can't be mounted. It wasn't cheap and I really didn't even use it that much, this is the 2nd time this has happened.
I lost all my media, nandroids, dta2sd apps, pictures. Some of that is backed up but not the recent stuff.
Since I didn't even use the full 16GB, I will in future prefer a phone with 16GB memory even if it has no sdcard. Internal memory is faster and more reliable.

EXACTLY.
And if the data on the card was that important to you, you should have had a backup of it.

One example implies truth?
So internal > external because your external stopped working?
What would you say to someone who says external > internal because their internal stopped working?
One is easily fixed (buy a new SD card), one is not easily fixed (buy a new phone).
This thread makes me sad.

Well if you just use internal, wouldn't that be even worse if it was damaged?

I read it was cheap also the first time.
I really don't care for SD slots I would much rather have a removable battery.

Just an fyi if internal dies phone is perma bricked, ask the 200 or so ppl who fried their emmc chips(internal storage/rom) on the et4g by wiping in recovery while on an ics kernel. The partition structure has changed and when wiping on a leaked ics kernel it would damage the partition causing a perm brick that even jtag couldn't save. So internal=/=external. External is replaceable, internal damage = dead phone/paperweight.

Problem: MicroSD missing on boot.

Hi guys,
I'm having a weird issue with my HTC Aria,
the micro SD card I'm using goes missing from time to time especially after boot. The system just refuses to see it, a physical eject and reinsert of the card is enough to get it to read for a while until it dissappears or until I reboot.
I've already tried formatting the card with the PC and in the phone, neither of which has helped the situation. Has anyone got some other tips of what I should do to sort this problem out.
Manually removing the card 3-4 times a day gets quite tiresome.
.
Is it a Class 2 SDHC memory? A friend was having similar problems with an 8GB card of those characteristics and the phone didnt recognized it, not even after eject and re-insert. Try if the same happens with a SDHC of bigger class (speed)
Actually its a class 4, it does it every restart

Have you tried another card to narrow your issue down to card or phone?

I tried a 2gb Samsung card, like the free one you get with the phone. That had no issues, so it looks like my Kingston 8gb is faulty.

Ok it seemed the card wasn't the issue, but rather the type of ext partition. Ext2 wasnt working but ext 3 was

Not recognizing sd card

Hey guys, new atrix owner and I'm loving it! However I'm having an issue where my sd card is not being recognized. I've searched the forums with mixed results. I think I'm having the issue with the connectors not touching properly but I dont know how to fix it
I've tried several sd cards and also formatting it using a computer.
The option to mount sd card and format it on the atrix is grayed out.its not recognizing it as all.
Any help would be appreciated
you sure it pushed all the way in?
Yes its all the way in! And the right way up. I'm trying to use gingerbreak but it needs an sd card mounted for it to work

If it's brand new with this problem on multiple sd cards I would exchange it just to be sure it isn't a persistent problem in the future

That will be my last resort as im in australia and will have to send it overseas
Someone said you have to tighten something in the sd card tray but not sure what or how

Had same issue with my sdcard. Took it out while phone was turned on and put it back in, phone still on. Phone mounted it right away and I've had no issues since.
Beamed in from WinBorg 4G via XDA Premium app
Already tried that with no luck. Is there a way to root running 1.8.3 without the need of an sd card?

Fixed the issue. Anyone ever experiences the same thing heres what I did
Take the sd card out
Where you slot the card in push that little piece of metal down a little bit
What's happening is that theres too much room between the sd card and the piece of metal so it doesn't contact properly.
I used a small screw driver and now the atrix is rooted and all is well

What they said, I had to do the exact same thing to get my SD card working.

Sd card transfer problems

I'm currently using an 8GB sdcard. I bought a 16GB and tried to transfer data. The first problem I have is that it takes forever to transfer it from my computer to the new card. I used a USB cord (new) and it still takes hours. Once it finally finished transferring I reboot and none of my data is there. What am I doing wrong?

Did you get the card from ebay? It's likely the card is a fake, or is just DOA.
of course ,i think the sd card is a fake,to change another sd card to try again

Download h2testw on windows and run it to check your SD cards validity

I bought the card from DailySteals.com. It looks like a legit card and my computer recognizes it.

Run that program above. Just because it looks good doesnt mean it is good, thats the whole reason these places make it look normal, so you think you are buying a real card.
And again, it could just be a bad card as well, contact the site and see about a return.
Will do.

Phone Storage

Alot of apps the I have moved to my SD still show as they are on the phone and which meams its taking up the phones storage. When I remove the SD none of the apps work because they are in fact on the SD card and not on the phones storage. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm only concerned because I have the 16gb model, you know the one that's actually 9.6gb? Anyone have any ideas?

I may be wrong on this as I haven't read much on it for awhile. But I think only the data is moved. So app is still there.

That's what I thought as well. It seems like the data is still being registered on the phones storage as opposed to the SD card even though the app has been moved to the SD card.

Replacing internal SD card?

Back in the day when I was using WP7, I managed to replace the INTERNAL SD cards on an HD7 and a Surround with larger capacity cards, is this possible with the N3?
there is an SDCard Slot in the Note 3, why would you want to hack the Intenal??

note3 internal memory is hard-wired (soldered), and no common micro-sd! so forget it!

Thanks! I didn't want to actually do it (per se) just wanted to know if it was possible - the reason I discovered that it was possible with the two HTC handsets was that the wife's Surround's internal card failed (must have burnt out) and I figured it out and replaced it, and then upgraded the memory of the HD7 the same way- People worry about memory in phones so I wondered why people don't just upgrade the internal storage, thanks for explaining
