dear experts
i recieved a G2 HERO unit from a freind,
he was palying with it and then it write on LCD,PLz login with ur google account to unlock screen.
this unit he bought second hand ,he donno any account, also no internet connection,
so, if i make hardrest and formated it, i think it will ask for registration as old dreamG1 phones
anyway to bypass it without have internt or data plan,
i already searched a lot , but not find anything help
best regards
thx in adavnce
I could tell you how to get round the pattern lock that is asking you for the Google account information (I presume this is what the issue is - the pattern of dots you need to draw on the screen)
But... If I write the instructions on clearing the pattern lock here, someone else could come along here in future and read the instructions on removing the lock and use it on a stolen phone.
I notice you have been a user on XDA for a while, so I trust you, but I don't really think it is responsible to tell anyone how to get round the pattern lock (being as you can then access all the messages/contacts on the phone), due to potential for mis-use by someone else in future.
Hope you understand.
PS. What I will say is that I am not aware of any need to activate the phone (I've got a G2 and didn't need to activate it at all. It did ask me for a Google account, but that was optional and only for syncing calendar, contacts & mail etc.
if you can operate google you can find the necessary information to bypass the lockscreen anyway. a hardreset is suggested, you want a clean phone, not the one your precessor customized for his needs, do you? so just reset it, and the lock will be gone with the reset... there is no need to have a google account, but keep in mind that you won't be able to use the market (and other minor stuff) without a google account...
Yeah. That's what I alluded to, but forgot to write- just do a hard wipe to get rid of it.
@kendon for some reason, people don't seem to know the method. The number of times I've seen it asked on other forums is ridiculous, yet it is sooooo easy to find out. Hint: Google is your friend.
hello
thx for ur replay and trust

yeah well, that is not only the problem with a locked phone... just saying "how can i root my phone", "is apps2sd working" and so on...
edit: right on cue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612254
Oh god... It's not this bad on modaco though . Damn. Now I've mentioned the forum, I bet you we start getting this kind of thing over there (it never seems to be so bad over there, being as most are there for MCR so are competent in rooting etc.)
I'm pulser on modaco btw, but some no-posts user has taken my name. Might do what you did and go for pulser_g2 or something like that and start again...
I believe I read in another thread that this may be due to the partitioning of my card, how can I fix this? I'd like to be able to remove some more apps.
Thanks.
i'm experiencing the same problem as you. hopefully we'll get help soon. I need this to be corrected so that I may run the parted command to remove the partitions on my card, for froyo apps2sd.
Bump?
I just found this when I was trying to get into Clockwork and do anything, but when I choose any of the options off the menu, they just lead me to a blank screen. So I haven't been able to do pretty much anything. Hah. >.<
I tried searching the forums, but I can't find anything specific. Hopefully someone will shed some light onto this predicament.
Could you post your partition structure guys?
Always better to document the issues/fixes rather than just fix your own problem
Someone else will ask this later n_n

Forgive me for being a noob, because my terminology isn't up-to-date, but what is my partition structure?
Not sure how you got it, but in terminal, that means you're in as root in an ash shell (possibly bash, also, but I didn't check). Where exactly are you seeing this symbol combination?
Well. /facepalm. There was nothing wrong to begin with. >.< Sorry for the false alarm.

Instead of hitting the power button, hit the trackpad. If you hit the power button and go to a blank screen, hit the power button again and it will bring you back to the menu.

Yeah, I've always known that, but for some reason, on that day, I decided to forget and freak out. -.-''
Thanks, though. ^^
My Blockbuster app loads well, shows the movies I've rented, but returns the error code 0xc00d2713 in a white box when I try to download any of the rented movies. I have...
*Deactivated my TMOUS HD2, soft reset and reactivated it.
*Uninstalled the Blockbuster app, soft reset and reinstalled it.
*Reset my modem and router (just incase).
Can anyone figure this out? The only help T-Mobile had was trade for like new or new phone. I've taken loving care of my HD2 and I don't want someone else's problems.
Has anyone any idea what could cause this or am I once again doomed to the hard reset?
After looking, that error seems to be related to DRM.

I googled and found the same, however, I have no idea how to fix it. Do you?
I don't use the Blockbuster app at all (I don't think we have the same access in the UK), but are you supposed to be able to download a movie that you've rented?
Feel free to shoot me down and flame me if you are supposed to be able to

Sorry, don't play with fire . But, yes, once you rent the movie you are suppose to be able to download it and play it. Have any ideas how to fix it? The app works if I do a hard reset; however, once I restore with Sprite backup, it will not download. The tmobile My Account "will be downloading soon" forever, too; although, I've fixed that problem.

Bizarre.
If it works after a hard reset, but stops after a restore with Sprite Backup, then it sounds like another app is conflicting with it. I was all for going with the DRM theory before, as mentioned by rr5678, but I'm not so convinced now.
I don't know how you could figure out what's causing the problem other than to re-install the apps manually, 1-by-1, and check after each install if you can still download. Obviously once you can't then you've found the problem.
That's not really a helpful suggestion though, if you've got a shed-load of apps to go through.
It's a bit of a clutch at straws, but I think having a thread here is the best thing, and to hope that someone with the same experience and a solution turns up.
Sorry to be so vague, but that's all I've got!
Hope you get it sorted.
Thanks, I've got over 60 apps (down from 100)! Soooo please don't make me reinstall them! I set aside days for ROM upgrades. Strangely, this thread shows how I solved the Tmobile My Account problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880250 and the problems seem to be related.

That is a bit of a strange and convoluted fix! Such is the joy of xda devices, eh!
Hope you get this one sorted too.
Edit: Just out of curiosity, have you flashed a custom ROM since you got your phone, or is it still an official TMO one?
Okay. I too Googled, and all I could find were references to Windows running on PCs. With that in mind, I REALLY don't know if this is relevant, but I do know enough about the WinMo OS to suspect it may help. If you're happy with registry editing, have a look at post No.2 on this page...

I'm not convinced that you'll find that key in the registry for WM, but maybe you will. It's worth a look.

I have no problem editing the registry (you were right that key doesn't exist in WM), as long as I'm told exactly what to do in exact detail.

I was 50/50 as to whether it would exist or not. Windows CE is VERY similar to the PC based Windows OS, so it was worth checking. As I know you've seen, there's nothing coming back from Google with regards to this error on WM.
I'm definitely done here now. As I said before, I hope you do get a solution though.
Good luck
This is my first post here and I'm not entirely sure if I'm posting in the right place....but here goes nothing (Please don't flame me. I'm learning, too!)
I've searched high and low on how to go about this and I can't find a thing about it. So, why not ask the question, right?
Well, since a certain kind XDA member (wink wink) was so wonderful as to root our R800x's, I was wondering if there is a way to disable the OTA that keeps randomly popping up so that we don't squander all his hard work. It would be terrible to grab our phones in the morning and find that we've been forcibly pushed into 2.3.3 with no say in the matter.
Does anyone have any ideas what to do?
Thank you all in advance!!
The rate Verizon goes with their updates you won't have to worry about this till at least next year LOL.
Good point Let's hope they don't decide to get all froggy and pop a release on us. I would cry....a lot, lol.
once you have root you may be able to firewall the ota process or nix it by removing verizon bloatware.
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
I apologize in advance for resurrecting this thread as I have been away for a while and haven't been able to get to XDA for a while. I was unfortunate enough to have my phone do the 2.3.3 update all by itself (if you can believe it) and then it bricked my phone. I used fastboot to bring my phone back to life and I'm wondering....would anyone be kind enough to tell me which firewall program I should get to make this thing stop issuing the OTA with detailed instructions? I'm a little naive when it comes to that. However I am a quick learner.
my phone was bricked by the update as well but luckily for me the updater force closes on me now(I guess a good thing) but it's something along the lines of com.android.updater or something like that. You could probably go through and delete it through root explorer. Don't know what will happen if it's deleted i assume nothing except it won't ask you to update anymore but I haven't had tome to try it
OK so I feel like a complete dumb-dumb now, haha. It seems that all you have to do is go into Titanium Backup, find the Mobile Care and fotainstaller programs, then freeze them. All fixed and no OTA! YAY! lol
I haven't seen any adverse reactions so far, but will post if I do.
Lucky me, I backed up and uninstalled Mobile Care the moment I rooted. However I haven't done anything with fotarebootreceiver 1.0 and I can't remember the last time I was prompted for an update.
I don't know If any has seen this but I have been constantly getting aforce close for the download agent.apk anyone seen this or know how to fix it?

you can try this
"To turn OFF future OTA updates, there is a file in the /system/etc/security folder. The file is named "otacerts.zip". Rename it "otacerts.zip.bak", or whatever you want. That will prevent future updates." -dont forget to mount r/w

That doesn't stop the phone from repeatedly downloading the update file and killing your battery.
We need to know the information from the build.prop file for the new update so that the phone will look like it is running with the update already.
doesnt work
renaming the file does nothing. I renamed it reset the phone and I still get the update alert about every hour
fixed it
If you have root explorer or es go to system, apps. then find innopath active care and rename it with .bak. it worked for me.
Let me elaborate:
So earlier today I was messing around with Density Changer while going to Kingsville to see my brother. I was messing around with the DPI value, changing it from 480 to 420 and such. I changed it to 520 and, like normal, asked me to reboot. I rebooted.
The phone started up a lot longer than usual. I thought that this was just a simple glitch, but it took longer for a reason. The time and date on my lock screen wasn't working. Messaging, Contacts, Camera, Samsung keyboard, and the sort wasn't working. Worst of all, TouchWiz wasn't working either. In panic, I tried to open Density Changer from settings but couldn't. I reset my phone to the factory settings. It was rather quick to format (I didn't have much except for some PSP roms and gallery images). I was relieved for a bit, but when it booted it was still unfunctional, not to mention the keyboard still didn't work, so I had to skip a ton of steps. Since TouchWiz was still broken, I set the home screen to Easy Mode. When I looked around with Easy Mode, I realized that you can run apps there without it crashing. I felt so dumb. So now I can't log in to the Play Store to undo what I did, I don't have the app anymore, TouchWiz won't work, I don't even know if I can recieve messages, yada yada. I feel like I am so screwed.
TL;DR changed the DPI from 480 to 520, all hell went loose. did factory reset in panic, even more screw.
Does anyone know what I can do instead of sending it for repair? I don't think AT&T will be able to repair it anyways-- just to give me a new phone.

I appreciate that you want to help! It means a lot. But before I attempt this, does this change absolutely EVERYTHING to default? I think the reason why my phone got so messed up was because the DPI was too high. :/
Do you know what firmware you're on? And if you have a custom recovery did you make a nandroid before you started messing around? If you did, like you should have, just restore that.

MAKE SURE YOUR NOT ON THE MF3 UPDATE. IF YOU ARE DO NOT ATTEMPT.
If your running MDL or lower, then download the MDL package and flash it with odin. It will indeed make everything stock.
MDL Package
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111253756
Odin
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111253763
1. Place phone in download mode
2. Hook to computer via USB
3. Open Odin
4. Click the PDA button and place the MDL file you just downloaded there.
5. Click start.
The process will take a few minutes, so don't panic. Let me know if that fixed it.
Shoot, man. I'm on the MF3 update. I have root though, will that help with fixing it?

Hey, now. I almost have it fixed. I just need the .apk file for Density Changer so I can install it, paste "480" into the box and reboot. Would someone be so kind to do it for me? This laptop is a school laptop which has Fortinet as an antivirus and a website restrictor. I would do it myself but my parents are considering taking me to AT&T ASAP when I go back home tomorrow.
But, yeah. I should have read on. I know that bigger values made the screen smaller, but I guess the S4 goes crazy when that happens.

Keyboard doesn't work. I was almost going to do that until I realized it. I'm just looking around for any DPI changing applications that allow it to any number (LCD Density Changer only allows it to 280).
I would set it to 280 if I could handle the small-ass icons. I can't, so I'm not gonna bother with that.

The default MF3, yeah. Fixed it with www-57.zip-pysha-re.co-m/v/78538033/file.html (remove those dashes). I went on Google Chrome and used voice recognition to get 460, pasted it in the DPI box, applied it. Everything's good now.

Well, it's really not about messing up. What is done is done. It's about learning from it and not doing it again. I can tell you are on the right path because you are trying to fix it. You screwed up... a lot of people screw up...what is important is not doing it again. Always read as much as you can about anything before you try it. It's just a phone and it is always replaceable but you can save yourself a lot of trouble by reading before doing. Like I said, i think you realize that. I'm sure you don't want to go through this type of trouble again to just get the phone working. What you did (change the dpi) isn't a big deal but it has big consequences. I was mostly referring to people that that try to "root", put custom recoveries on their phones, custom ROMs, etc. There is so much information about these things in the XDA forums it isn't funny, yet people think they don't need to read and learn about it or they think their time is too valuable. But as soon as they screw up (and they always do), all of the sudden, they find the time to come to XDA and beg for someone to fix their phone. As soon as someone points out that they should have read and learned in the first place, they get a smug attitude and act like people "owe" them a fix for their stupidity. Like I said, not necessarily your situation, but it happens all of the time regardless.
**Edit**
I'm am glad you fixed your phone and is is encouraging to see how much work and effort you put into fixing it. It would be nice if everyone put that kind of effort into fixing their phones. I have a feeling you will do just fine with modifying your phone.
