Just got my Nexus 10. Where is the Menu button?
I'm looking for the sleep timer in Pandora. I know I could access it under the Menu button in other device, but this Nexus 10 doesn't have the Menu button and not showing anything similar. I dig under settings but nothing there about SLEEP.
Background, I did all the updates and got KitKat. I don't know what they change/improve with KitKat but I'm not impress.
A few more questions...... should I dig to find the CPUID if worse come to worst should I need it? My A500 needed the CPUID to get access when it bite the dust. I hadn't root or anything yet, I did that with the A500 but seem nothing I do need root. I spent months looking through and trying to fix my A500. Nothing work. Can't flash any of the ROM, can't restore. All I got are Acer logo/dead android icon/attempting to read backup.zip rom from microSD. Seem like the memory is corrupted.
What accessories do you get for your Nexus 10? I got the adapter cable miniUSB to full size USB so I can plug in my flash drive. Sux Nexus don't have microSD.
What case do you like and why?
thanks.
PS: I did search and seem like none of you guys sleep listening to music.
Lots of view but nobody is replying... how come?
I can't believe this tablet take so long to charge from zero % to 100%. I've start charging it since 9am and now it's 4:12pm and only 97% charged. wow Using the AC charger that come with this tablet. Manual said the charger is 2A but the tiny text spec on the charger said 0.2A.
Well I can answer the charging. Buya pogo charger. Also for a case the moko slim is a good cheap case.

thanks for the reply. I read it wrong... input is 100-240 with 0.35A. The output is 2A at 5V. That match with the owner manual. But wow that is a very long time to full charge. I think spec for USB is 3A max. I'll check out the moko case later. thanks.

USB is limited to 5V, the charger is putting out 2A, or 2000ma per hour so 9000Mah should = 4.5 hours, But:
max microusb can handle 1.8A, so it becomes 5 hours.
Power loss in charging (e.g. heat) is about 10%-20% (each battery is different) so becomes 5.5-6.25hr
Above 85%, to protect the battery from overheating and over-voltage, as part of battery longevity, it slowly moves into trickle charge. Compare how long it takes from say 60%-70% to 90%-100%, there is little to gain in waiting to go from 97% to 100%. Next time look after 6 hours it should have been 90%. See this chart.
You can overcome one of these limitations by use of Pogo cable which isn't limited by 1.8A of microUSB and can give 2A. Side-benefit is it is magnetically connecting so doesn't wear out your data socket microUSB with all the plugging in to get electricity. It will still trickle-charge but get you to 85% faster.
I confirmed today that the Pogo cable does not disable the microUSB socket i could use a USB harddrive (Stickmount) and use my 4G USB dongle (PPP-Widget, kernel replacement), whilst receiving power, but the 2Amp input is still not enough to charge and tax the N10 with power demands, it was slowly still discharging powering ~600mah USB harddrive plus full brightness display plus Wifi was >2A slightly.

Also the menu button should pop up on the right side of the soft key bar in apps that need it. And if you want faster charging you can buy a pogo cable which charges faster but it costs 25 dollars. I would recommend just charging before going to sleep and remove it early in the morning. It takes about 5-6 hours to charge fully from a low battery like 10 percent so an extra hour shouldn't make a difference on the charger. I looked it up and it said that it's best not to leave it longer than 9 hours on charge but less than that should be fine and that was for a phone so im sure the tablet can stay longer without issues.

So there is an accessories thread.....
So I've had a N7 for 17 month and a N4 for 11 month and N10 for 4 days. My experience has led me to focusing on energy input to balance the large output from the larger screen. Battery logs shows a lot more goes into the display than my N7. The power input is still only limited by microUSB plus you got the trickle-charge >85%.
So here's my list:
A dual 2.1A PSU, to get as much current as possible from the wall when I'm near a wall. The Samsung supplied one is 2Amp which is perfectly fine as the supplied MicroUSB cable is limited to 1.8A anyways, so the Pogo cable not having that limit is limited by the PSU so got a slightly higher Ampage one which can also charge something else concurrently. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BSC7FW0/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
A 2Amp-input slim battery, this is only 5000mah but there are larger. This one fits in my pocket slim like my N4 and N7 I got larger 7000mah and 12000mah USB batteries which only 1A input. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EK3UHS8/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Pogo cable which is not limited by the 1.8A of the microUSB port, it complements the 2.1A PSU http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2166BS/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Case with removable keyboard. " MoKo BlueTooth Wireless Keyboard Cover Case for Google Nexus 10" (10-inch) Tablet by SAMSUNG, BLACK " but doesn't seem sold any more, it is to go beyond the edges of the N10 itself to assist with a drop-test and comfortable props on my lap or on desk with/without keyboard. The Pogo cable also complements the case as its magnetically connected so if cable is pulled it will come away easier and no damage to the N10 microUSB socket.

Hmmm, I do in hotels and other situations where noise is an issue sleep with noise-isolating headphones, a Buff to keep headphones in my ears and either a brown noise or pink noise depending what is the noise type in the hotel, works good when the guy in the floor above bangs his doors from 1am and the guy next door banging around from 5am. I'd typically NOT do that with a N10 but my N4 which I have anyways in Airplane mode to not be disturbed and with an alarm set so I wake when I want to not earlier.
I guess... you mean sleep with music coming through the N10's speakers? Well its rare I could do that, either wife or someone in next hotel room or I'm on a flight and need headphones which don't annoy the next seat so noise-isolating earbuds are what I use, nice to have the speakers.
I also have one of these http://www.amazon.com/Outdoor-OT6001-Bluetooth-Adapter-Devices/dp/B009A136T2 which allows me to not cable connected to gadget (phone, N7, N10, laptop, etc) and it lets me use regular headphones which only last for me 3-6 months and is cheaper over the long term than bluetooth headphones.

I couldn't stand it anymore so I snipped my wire and added another 4 ft.
I have been trying to get an additional PSU and car charger for my Acer. Went to Frys, tried almost EVERYTHING they have on those Universal PSU and NONE of them work in the pin connector for the Acer. What gives!
Try to get a free tip for my Energizer Xpal and also result in zero search. Any fellows have a pointer to where in getting the right tip? Thx
So far the ONLY one that I have found that works is the Enercell 12 / 1.5 with the 'G' tip, but it's like $30 at RadioShack. The tip itself is a little long and if it wiggles it will stop/start charging off and on.
I'm working with a few people to find some at decent price for us.
anyone measured the dimensions of the charging tip at all? If worse comes to worse we could always buy a generic 12v 1.5a AC adapter from ebay and buy the tip separately to solder on.
The USB port wont be able to charge the tablet fast enough and the battery will still drain. I've found that this happens on my Xperia X10 mobile phone. I have to disable 3G data in order get it to start charging.

The 'g' tip for the Encercell is 1.1mm x 3.0mm
Hope that helps
thanks for hte dimensions... unfortunately they don't sell that brand over here in Australia. I'm also reluctant to pay ~$30 for a charger.
I wonder if one of the round tips on this USB charger would fit:

It may still charge if the device is switched off completely.

No charging difference at all except I don't have to have my face mashed up against the wall while it charges.
I used a piece of wire from an old 1amp charger I had. The extra piece doesn't even get slighty warm. 1.5 amps isn't all that much juice. I did solder the connetions too.

Wal-Mart Car Charger
The Wal-Mart Car charger for portable DVD players works perfect.
a quick look at the wall power supply says that it it needs 12V at 1.5 amps with center of tip positive.
The Wal-Mart car charger puts out 2000ma (2amps), and has a tip that works.. It works PERFECT and it only costs 15 bux.
usb charging is out.. usb is only 5V at 500 ma (.5 amp).. not sure why everybody complains about wanting USB to charge their tablet. Even if they did add it, it would take so terribly long to charge it, you would get mad. With the proper charger and voltage, it only takes about 2-3 hours to fully charge the thing...
Good luck!

This has been a topic of discussions for a LONG time hopefully you'll know.... Couldn't there be a potential issue with charging at 2 amps when it calls for 1.5?? I was told you could use less but not ore without causing damage to the battery?
I have a 'demo' on the way from overseas to try that I should get Wednesday. I will let you know ASAP.
This is a big issue with me as I prefer a charger at home and the office and I'd like something that I can charge on my desk 'without my face mashed up against the wall' (as atomicwedgie so perfectly put it)

The Amp rating on wall chargers is what the charger is CAPABLE of outputting, not what it is always outputting. As long as there is current limiting built into the charging circuit (which is a must), then the charging circuit in the A500 won't pull any more amperage than it needs to charge. Don't worry about buying a higher amperage charger than is needed, but do worry about buying one that is lower as it can overload the charger.

Hi,
can my acer iconia be charged via the usb?
No it cannot be charged via USB.
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
Most of the tablets can't be charged over USB - the A/C charger for the Acer is a 12v and I think (don't have mine with me at the moment) over 1 amp; even USB 3.0 only puts out 5v and maxes at 1a.
Having said that, it'd be nice if they could take a trickle charge over the USB input to reduce the battery drain, even if it can't fully charge the battery.
If anyone here also owns a Nook Color you may have noticed that it won't charge over USB either, and in fact even requires a custom "USB" cable attached to their power adapter for charging. Their cable looks like a regular USB cable but it is not.
The screens and batteries are just too big to support the tiny amount of power USB is designed to provide.
Nope, no charging over USB. It has to do with the amount of charge needed to charge the device and USB is unable go generate the needed power.

The Nook Color does in fact charge over USB. I do it all the time. The only time it needs the AC power adapter is if it next to dead, and you get the "Battery too low to power on". Also, the AC adapter, even though it outputs via MicroUSB, will NOT charge other devices as it doesn't fit exactly for some reason.

My (retired) 1st gen Sony eReader was like that also, USB charge didn't work once the batt level got too low
NO
Like stated before almost no tablet charges over usb. and like one poster pointed out not even the nook color charges over usb I have one as well.
One poster says the nook does charge but you have to define chargeing. on wall power it charges full in like less then an hour. plugged into usb and only if its off or in sleep with no wifi running it will chrge but it will take all night. so for all purposes it dosent usb charge.
I dont know about other tablets but the iconia has TWO internal batteries(read your box see the little x2 next to the batteries) and most likely why it wont charge over usb.
To tell the truth I have not really understood the hang up on the usb charging or the short cord for the iconia. usually I charge mine when im done with it or not using it so cord length means nothing. and as far as usb charging, usb charging on anything is harder on the battieres. and most likely why alot of companies dont do it.
The whole idea is to be prtable who wants to be teathered to the wall with a charger 4 foot or 6 foot really whats the difference?
side note: the person who said the nook color cord was special? its just a standard mini usb just like on portable hard drives nothing special about it. i lost mine and just used the one from my hard drive worked just fine.

That would be great. Maybe someday they will design a transport port and technology allowing a single port to both be intelligent enough to transport files to/from a computer as well as charge these devices.
For now, as others have said - the batteries in the A500 take too much juice to be charged through the USB port. Imagine having to charge your tablet for 48 hrs? Or worse, while it's charging you pick it up to check a website and even while charging it just starts draining because the batteries are juicing out faster than they can be charged?
It just wouldn't work.

I'm traveling to Germany in a few weeks. I have an adapter for my Dell Laptop to deal with the Power over there. The ability to charge my tablet, phone, and any other devices from my laptop would be awesome. If I wish to take my tablet, I'll need to buy another adapter / power converter that I'll hardly ever use. I often travel within the US for business, and carrying one less power adapter would be nice.
Sometimes My kids steal my tablet and use up all the battery, or I simply forget to plug it in... then I go to use it, and it's near dead. With the ridiculously short cord I cant use it while it charges unless I want to sit on the floor next to an electrical outlet or use an extension cord. And of course of the 50 or so power bricks I have.. none match..
While these things are slightly inconvenient.. It's not a show stopper. I love my Iconia.
I think people are used to their android phones, where (for me at least), my habit is to sit down and plug in the usb. It's just easy to keep it charged that way.
I found this neat device though, I think someone called it an extension cord or something? It really solved my problems of the short cord. I bet the guy who invented that is a millionaire.
(Seriously, they could have made the cord longer, just so you could sit the tab on a table and not be stretching, but $2 at Home Depot fixed the issue real quick).

Extending the cable isn't really all that difficult, just cut the cable in two, rip the insulating layer from both ends, add some extra cable in-between and voila! You've got yourself a longer charging cable

Yep, that would definitely do the job but what about electrical resistance or conductance may be depending on the material, diameter of the wire, legth, temperature ... sorry, I'm not an electrician or an engineer but I think one shouldn't do such "grafting" with such sensitive electronic equipment...
Solution
What you ought to make is a 5V to 12V little box that you plug into TWO (or more) USB ports and draw power off both. It would be pretty small, you could probably put it inline. I have a hard drive case that draws power from two USB ports. One is power only, other is power and data. It Y's into a mini USB from two full size USB.
THAT'S what tablet makers ought to use. 1A at 5V is 5 watts, which is about 420mA @ 12 Volts which would probably let you charge when off at least on a tablet. Assuming no loss of course, but I bet you could still get 400mA effective.

I often travel within the US for business, and carrying one less power adapter would be nice.

i dont know if you've already made your trip to Germany or not, but as far as your Acer is concerned, all you need is a $0.30 US to German plug adapter. the brick from the iconia can already handle 110-240v. actually, most laptops and such's (even desktops) power supplies handle up to 240v due to people traveling with them. you dont need to worry about getting a special converter. this is coming from someone who's lived in Germany for 2 years, Bosnia for 7 months, and Iraq for 12 months. just look at the power supply and find the voltage on there and if it says 110-240v you're good. if its like 110-120v then you will need the power converter. lost a PlayStation 1 back in 1999 that way because I didnt check.

I like your thinking! (As oppose to all the nay-sayers who accepts defeat so readily...)
Another thing we should consider: many USB ports (even USB 2.0) will provide more power than the specification calls for - my motherboard puts out 1,500mAh on multiple ports, and my laptop has a dedicated "phone charging port" that puts out 1,000 mAh. Some travel adapter also has a USB charging port that puts out more than 500mAh. I know this is not the norm but is becoming a trend. So, for the lucky few who has a high-power USB port, charging the tablet via USB is entirely feasible. In fact, even with standard USB port, it can be done, just not "well".
If you don't believe me, do the math yourself - the Iconia has 2x 3.26Ah battery. At 3.7v, that is about 24 watt. For 2x USB at 500mAh, you get about 5 W/hr of juice. At no-loss, the tablet would be charged in less than 5 hours. Even if we assume 30% loss (typical), it will still be less than 7 hour to fully charge the tablet - aka one night of sleep. And it only gets better if your laptop puts out more power on the USB ports.
I would much rather have 1 power adapter for my laptop, and then plug all my phone/tablet/wifi-hotspot into the laptop... as oppose to lugging around 4 different power bricks. Plus, for those of you who travel a lot, you will know this... hotels never have enough power outlets! I have to start bringing my own powerstrip these days because if there are two of us sharing a room, we'd frequently have to pull out the TV cabinet and unplug the TV, or charge the phones in the bathroom...
So, any chance we can put this in action? And instead of waiting for tablet manufacturers to get their acts together, how many of you would actually pay for a "2x-USB-to-12v" adapter cable that is smaller/lighter than the Iconia wall brick but can charge your tablet overnight via laptop? If there is enough interest, I wonder if we could get a Kickstarter project going for this...

Jumping in here a little late, but it's not true that no tablets can be charged via USB. My Samsung Galaxy Tab can be charged over USB. Mine is the 7" model, no idea about its 10" big brother.
HP TouchPad 16GB also takes charge from USB slow but still charges.
on the other hand my Acer A500 does not!
Has anybody noticed that the Play store listing for the Nexus 10 only lists the tablet?
Maybe they wanted to save a few bucks and figured that we'd all have phones with a charger cable already, but it's kinda lame that we'd be paying $400+ for a tablet and we won't even be getting a charger with it. I'm going to have to buy a separate cable for it myself; I kinda want to charge both my tablet and my GNexus at the same time.

I would hope that the listing isn't completed for the box because it's not out yet. I'm hoping that it uses a 2A charger, in which case most people don't have so they would supply it.

It follows the policy for Amazon Kindle HD 8.9, where no charger is included but it includes the micro USB charging wire. Also, Nexus 4 includes all the accessories including charging wire and the charger.
Best regards,

I'll be amazed if they don't supply a charger, i think it more a case of they are not listing it because of regional differences, I got a Sony Xperia S Tablet and noticed that the charging accessories changed for different countries, some would have just a socket to usb convertor, but i got like a mini laptop AC brick as we use 240v in the UK, not 120, so best to just leave it off for now.
I will be interested to see if they charge through the microUSB or via a magnetic charger as standard, and if they charge from MicroUSB, how much the magnetic charger would be

I was going to link that photo gallery. Looks like the same exact 2-piece AC adapter the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 uses.

Does the Nexus 10 support wireless charging too? That's pretty cool if so. I think about now is the cue for IKEA and the like to start producing high-end tables which automatically charge anything on top of them. Then you can truly be wireless (well, the table would have to be plugged in, but the odds are you could hide the wire from sight). Since the table is powered, they might as well give it a backlit surface, too. Now that would be a table.

I've not heard anything about it, and Google would be shouting about it if it did, so i'd say it doesn't unfortunately.
I can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for anywhere so here it goes..
I am mounting a Nexus 7 in my car with a bluetooth head unit to get sound through my speakers. If I make a dock containing pogo pins to charge the device, can I run those pins to my cigarette lighter so the N7 charges will the car is on? I have a 12v to 5v 3A converter on the way if needed. I really don't want to fry my battery and have to start over.
Could this idea cause any problems? Thanks in advance.
I don't think the pogo pins will charge the device fast enough to keep up with the usage. So if you travel it will slowly deplete. It is a slow charge. People do this though.
You should also look into installing a wireless charger under your battery door so it charges through induction like the Nexus 4. There are videos that walk you through this. Usually they connect the wireless disc up to the pogo pins or to the battery contacts directly.
The N7 will shut off charging once the battery is full, so youd want the power always on through to the cable.
Food for thought. There are numerous threads here in the forums that show people doing this and their findings. I would do the induction charge though for ease of removal and hassle. You can pick up a touchstone charger and disc for probably $20 on eBay. There are specific models to look for and the details would have to be researched.
My buddy did his N7 and he said it was super easy. His only beef was the N7 was too heavy for the included magnets to really keep a secure connection and some people also purchased stronger magnets for under the battery door to fix this. They turned out so strong that the N7 would actually hang simply by the magnets so it kind of "snaps" in place.

So because the V20 doesn't fast charge when the screen is on, does this make the phone useless when navigating on long trips as the charge won't be enough to counter the drain that gmaps requires?
If so, is there a way around this? I'm using an H918.
I just recently drove a trip that was a Lil over a thousand miles each way, took me about 20 hours there then 3 days later 20 hours back. I used the v20 for navigation the whole way there and back. The way there I had charged the phone fully before I left., but had the screen at roughly 85 percent brightness. The phone stayed charged fully the whole way. On the way back I didn't have a chance to charge the phone before I left and was actually worried that if the charger didn't charge it enough in the truck then it might go dead with the use of navigation and ask the sensors and everything it uses for navigation. My fears were needless, it charged slowly but charged..
Now I know this may not be the technical answer you hoped for but from my experience I would say you shouldn't have a problem navigating with screen on as long as your charging...now it was very hot the whole time with screen on and charging for 20hours. Hope this helps
I agree, my experience has been the same. The phone charges "slowly" while using Navigation, podcasting, etc.
Thanks for the great and informative answer. Doesn't sound like a problem at all then.

The v20 does fast charge. First make sure you actually have a good fast charger. Second, make sure that the cable you are using is a high quality usb cable. The usb cable can make all of the difference. Don't use the cheap cables that come with the chargers. I use the old oem cables that came with my pixel and they are outstanding.
Or look for usb 3.1 certified cables.
The phone does heat up when its fast charging so i usually re-direct one of the car vents towards the phone.

I forgot exactly where and my phone is not in front of me. I think it was the settings pull down from the top. When its fast charging you should see it say fast charging on that screen.
I went though at least a dozen chargers until i figured out it was the cable limiting the current to the phone. Also the longer the cable, the higher the resistance. So generally speaking the thicker the cable, the better it will work.

That is not my experience.
When the phone is connected to a fast charger, the pull down from notifications should show a notification:
Android System
Fast charging Percentage
Conntected to a fast charger
even when the screen is on. Let me know if you need a screenshot.

Correct and if you have an inline usb meter like i do then you will see it gets to 12W with screen off and around 5W with screen on.
The way you tell if fast charging is working is you will see a circle around the thunderbolt up on the status bar. This means the fast charge protocol has successfully negotiated and will commence when the screen turns off. Should display within a few seconds of plugging in.
Make sure the cable is properly seated in the phone and on the charging end. I usually charge from a power bank and sometimes that usb A end doesn't go in completely into the port on the power bank. Phone promptly mentions slow charging.

For a long while i used the charging cable that came with my G4 because that was a 20/28 20 meaning thicker for power than the anker powerline cable which is only 24/28. Anker doesn't make any 20/28 ones. Doesn't matter how fancy the braiding is.
I then went back to the stock ribbon cable. I tried with 6 inch cables and you know what. No discernable difference in charging speeds when it comes to the low power of a phone.
I say low because relative to a power bank it is. Mine takes up to 21W to quick charge and here a shorter thicker cable makes a difference. Though using the stock ribbon cables provided by the power bank again yielded similar acceptable results.
