I messed up - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted my lg g2 just fine, installed flashify, then tried to install cm 11 with it (i did not flash a cwm or twrp personally) with cwm on flashify now it's stuck in a bootloop with the bricked android logo (android on its side with red triangle). This is my brother's phone, I messed up. Can his device be saved or should i just surrender my smartphone over to him. (this isn't behind his back he's right here). He just got this phone on monday. I shouldn't have even tried to root it. thank you

This method must save you my friend...

But I can't get to any recovery mode because I didn't install one. This will work regardless?
Thank you

THe method works through the download mode, not recovery mode. So you should be able to save your phone. Just make sure you follow the steps carefully.

First rule of android, Always install a recovery then backup. The link he gave should fix you. Also do not use stuff like flashify. Use adb it is much safer. Especially since we have to have loki to flash stuff.

Thank you all so much for the help. I will follow that guide tomorrow after school. I was about to give up hope. I'll post updates

You should be fine. It's not that easy to brick this phone.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

You'll be fine as long as you follow that post. I've used it several times (mainly just for fun and a fresh start) and it's never given me any issues going back to stock.

Should I use the method posted above our should I use this guide that was linked in the thread above ( I can't figure out how to paste the link on my moto x right now I'll do it when I can get to my computerized). The guide in referring to is in hyelton's op below the guide for the attached version

Use the link provided the second post of this thread. And make sure you download the correct rom/firmware for your device. And follow the instructions. You should be fine

If it downloaded 100% you should be good just make sure if all goes well after you boot to power down and boot into recovery and reset and your good to go!

HELP

:crying:I am rooted using cf auto, i had twrp 2.6, but just now i put 2.5.0.2 zip on my sd card to flash, bc i was having problems with 2.6, i was about to flash my first custom rom, but i wanted to revert back to 2.5.0.2 first, so when i went to flash 2.5.0.2, i went into goomanager to boot into recovery, which was fine, then i went into my sd card to install 2.5.0.2, i swiped to install, then is said install successful, so i hit reboot, NOW i am STUCK IN DOWNLOAD MODE...i cant get out! please help...i took battery out, i dont know what else to do...:crying: :crying:
So when you put the battery back in the phone it automatically boots into download mode?
If not then hold power+home+volume down to boot into recovery.

If all it does is go into download mode. Then you are lucky in a way because you can Odin back to stock which fixes almost all issues. This will delete you data, more than likely. Which is only apps, messages, calls, not your pictures on internal storage.

It sucks. But stuff like this happens. And being rooted you have to know the risks of flashing and modding your phone. And its not that bad. Its exactly the same as wiping your phone to install a new ROM. You delete all the same stuff. Not hard to get back up and running.

No do not do this! Just go to tarp site and get the twrp tar file for the version you want. Then use Odin to load twrp recovery. This way you won't lose everything. Also to boot to recovery you can just use power and volume up. More than likely twrp didn't flash correctly so you have no recovery. Flashing it with Odin may solve the problem.

He specifically stated he didn't want to wipe. Plus why return completely to stock if there is no need. You SPARKY need to settle down and try to give useful information for a persons particular problem. Running around like a chicken with its head cut off for a simple recovery missflash. Then to try and bash me because I actually helped him not to have to set everything up again. What if he didn't have a proper nandroid or hadn't ran a recent TB backup. Then he would have lost all data. Now all is well. Check post 7 if you missed the part where he is asking for a better way.

He didn't say he didn't want to wipe until after. He didn't say that when I told him to Odin back to stock. I am settled. Lol. At the time that was the only way I knew we to resolve this so I gave him that option. It was good that you guys knew about the tar version of the recovery.
Now I learned something new.

ok. i was on stock. rooted with the IO method. wanted to flash a ROM (clean rom). downloaded ROM, wipe dalvik/cache/data. after reboot, phone booted into recovery mode. tried going into download mode to revert back to stock and LG FlashTool failed. said phone was the wrong model number (D802). the ROM i Downloaded said it was for VZW G2. obviously it wasnt. so i finally ended up using fastboot to push boot image and it booted, but in about phone, it says it D802 model (i just got it to boot, where as before i was stuck in fastboot mode). now i need to return to stock, but dont know how. any ideas?

I was thinking the same thing. It's best to stay out of those modes. Get a recovery installed ASAP and do everything that you need to do from there. I recommend TWRP Recovery.
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Maybe because when flashing stock rom download mode is needed (atleast in my old sammy phone, maybe same in moto phones)
What's wrong with restoring the backup of the stock rom that should have been made before wiping and flashing a different rom? Not sure what I'm missing here.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
Download mode is useful to flash the entire phone back to stock using the OEM tools. It's not just for the stock ROM. It's everything. It's useful if you get a bit carried away in TWRP and wipe partitions you really shouldn't be touching. Or if you somehow manage to bork your recovery, or at least can't get into it. It's also good if you want your phone to be completely stock to sell it or to send it in on warranty. I'm sure someone could come up with other scenarios where it's useful.
But yes, it is a good idea to keep a backup of your stock ROM. And as always, know what you're flashing, make sure it's for your phone and check md5s. And be mindful of what you're doing in recovery. You should be able to avoid most issues. Download mode is indeed something you shouldn't be using often but as I said above there are situations where it is useful or necessary. It's actually something I suggest you know how to use. I say it's always a good idea to know how to get back to complete stock for warranty stuff, selling, or if something just goes majorly wrong.
The Rom I was trying to flash was apparently for a different model number, yet it was under the Verizon thread. There was no md5 to cross reference. In the end I ended up finding the proper boot image/twrp files and pushed them via fastboot (since I was unable to use adb) which then allowed more to restore a backup of the original Rom. Just took me all night to finally get back to stock. Then I decided to restore to out-of-the-box stock just to make sure all files weren't corrupted our anything.

You can you adb side load which is the same for flashing rom, pushing, or pulling file from the phone which is the first thing to learn before flashing anything to the new device that you got and know nothing about.

ok, flashed the stock recovery image you sent thru flashify. Seemed to work but when I try to go to recovery it shows LG then at the top seems to give options then screen goes black and nothing. I did hold the power button for 10 seconds till it vibrated and rebooted. Phone restarted then I decided to defrost the app that checks for OTA. Now I'm stuck on the recovery section with a black screen I think all because I forgot to temp unroot before I decided to try and take the OTA:crying: Doesnt seem like the flash worked correctly either so I guess I'm going completely back to stock and lose all my info unless someone has a workaround?

I'm a noob... but not so much to make that error... edit: right went and did it again and I still have no download mode but I can get the recovery menu, I replaced the recovery img in the folder to tWPR to try boot it but again black screen when I try. I will try replacing the files with the .img form my current rom and see if she boots

In order to flash cloudy g3 lollipop you need to flash the KitKat baseband before you install it.

I love you, man! So simple, and yet it solved my problem flashing CloudyG2 3.3! I tried flashing it from stock KK, and couldn't do it no matter what, until I did what you said. When reading other posts, I understood KK baseband is needed when you flash from JB. Didn't realize the same applies when you are coming from stock KK. Jeez...
Anyway, big THANK YOU! :good:
