Hey everyone, to make a long story short I'm one of those damned souls that installed chainfire 3d on a non gingerbread device (yes I did not read the description properly but seriously, who is using gingerbread in 2013 and why hasn't the app been taken down from play store?) And pretty much did not find any help anuwhere on how to remove it short of going back to stock or installimg a custom rom.
I did not have backup of nand or anything because I did not plan on installing a custom rom, anyway I imstalled phoenix rom 9.0 and it's okay but I have NO SOUND whatsoever and phone reboots itself mostly when I try to edit something I'm typing with the cursor such as this parragraph.
I could not find a stock rom for my phone, i9500 factory unlocked artic blue, box says it is the model "for the americas" and has the letters UD.
There an ota update for phoenix rom 10.1...would fix my issues? Or will I have to install something else? I would prefer a custom rom that's as close to stock as possible and it has to be 4.3 because I can no longer go back to 4.2.2 it seems because a change of bootloader...

Just to clarify, I do know the chainfire3d thing is my fault and no one elses...

Hello everybody out there using the Nexus 4
My question is basically very simple, the background is a little complicated, or at least very annoying for me. Here you go:
Is there any hint or warning screen before or during the OTA update process, which tells the user, that "installing a new system update may revert your settings to default" or something similar?
I expect, that this question might sound a little strange to you guys, but the answer is very important for me. Thanks you very much on advance for your help!

Applying an OTA through the android system if you;re running stock will not wipe your data. If you do it manually though though ADB that's a different story.

I'm sorry bad_HABIT, but this doesn't answer my question. I'm not interested whether changes actually happen or can not happen, I'm only interested whether there is a warning for the user.

No. And there is absolutely no need for one.
Installing a ota update with never reset your settings to default.
what difference will it make if I change the runtime from dalvik to ART in developer settings in KitKat 4.4.2 ROM? Will it make my phone faster?!

Presuming ART on your device works...IME ART is much more snappy than Dalvik.
To read more start here:

While changing the runtime to ART it gives this warning, should I continue? what r the risks?

The risks are it's experimental technology that you're given a preview of because you enabled developer settings. Also, some apps may not work. And please don't file bug reports on the ROM or apps because you're using experimental settings. Honestly, I'd leave it on dalvik if you don't know what you're doing.
The risk is that you may brick your ROM and need to do a Nan droid restore to get it back.
I think I'll leave it as it is for now, don't want to risk bricking my device ?

Stop giving false information!!! There's no case where using ART has bricked one's ROM (if that's even possible!).

There's no risk bricking your device by enabling ART. Sure some apps might not work properly, but the majority will work ok. You can always try ART, see what you think and if you don't like the results, you can revert back to Dalvik. Keep in mind that if you have Xposed framework installed and you try to change your runtime to ART, you might end up with a bootloop. So make sure you have a backup, just in case.
But, I repeat, it isn't possible to brick your device by changing to ART.

Lordy. Are you kidding me?
Of course it is possible...AAMOF, for most KitKat ROMs on the Sprint SPH-L900 enabling ART WILL render your ROM unbootable and the only "fix" (that I know of) is a Nandroid restore. AFAIK the only ROM for L900 with working ART that I know of is OmniROM, although I will admit I haven't tried straight CyanogenMod in forever. "Working" meaning enabling ART doesn't break your ROM. Because what will happen otherwise is after enabling ART and immediately rebooting, your ROM install will permanently bootloop, and the only way of getting it back is Nandroid recovery.
Don't believe me? Download or read the XDA forums for Dirty Unicorns 5.0 or SlimKat (no offense intended at Maz or sleshy who do mad work on those ROMs and who are more than aware of this issue). Then you'll see exactly what I'm talking about and that it is you who are "spreading false information". Further even within the same ROM, enabling ART can break the ROM for some devices but not others. If you read or follow Google+ dev communities for OmniROM and others you'd know this.
"False information" indeed.

bootloop ≠ brick
Two very different situations. You used the word brick, which does nothing but panick whoever reads it, because it insinuates bad things. On the other hand, a bootloop is a much more manageable situation.
Could anyone tell me, if the device is bricked or struck on bootloop will I still be able to go to recovery mode?

If your device is on a bootloop, you will be able to go to recovery mode. In case of a brick, in most cases you won't be able to turn the phone, let alone booting to recovery mode. But enabling ART has nothing to do with bricking the phone.

This is Xposed Framework: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
You'll know if you've installed it, by checking if there's an app called Xposed Installer.
I'm running art out of curiosity. everything is working fine, no problems at all. but honestly, I cant tell any difference between art & dalvik in terms of speed/battery life/whatever. the only noticeable difference is the longer boot time with art. I do not keep track of ram usage or do any speed tests or details like that. Maybe there's a difference on that level, but it's not perceptible as a user, imho.
so, at this time, is it worth switching over? eh, not really. doesnt matter much.
Yeah even I switched to ART but didn't notice any changes except that all the apps take much space than dalvik n I also noticed my battery was draining sooner so switched back to dalvik, it's better for now until the ART is fully developed on our device
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
For me, art don't think that makes so much difference. It's experimental and we have to wait for next major android release.

Yes,so i think I'm on dalvik? Xposed shouldn't work when on art.
Sent from my Xperia T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Xposed automatically kicks you out of art runtime whenever you try to get into it. so your options are:
1.keep xposed active and forget about art until the developer works on compatibility (which should be soon)
2.or deactivate (or uninstall) xposed and use art runtime.
You should weigh the pros and cons and see which is best. btw no bricks will happen if you choose to use art.
Hello all
I recently upgraded from a sg2x I had it rooted and only had lbe privacy guard installed to manage pesky permissions and a few apps to trim the bloat ware.
My problem is that the s5 while it is s great phone has so much crap on it I literally have no idea where to start with trimming the fat. Just wondering if there are any ROMS availablethat do most of that for you? Pretty new to the whole scan and just thought I would ask. I would also be very interested to know if lbe privacy gaurd is still a viable permission limiting app. Sorry if I missed the answers in the forums somewhere but I have been having a hard time finding info specific to the Telus model of the S5 (SM-G900W8)
I have had the phone for one day and have had enough apps download on there own with very questionable permissions it has made me want to go back to the S2x and not bother with an upgrade. More insidious software on these things that enough. Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
I should also add that I have found the rooting guide but haven't done so yet as I am afraid of getting to crazy deleting bloat. I never used a rom just ran stock s2x and never updated it. Am curious to try something new in the form of a custom rom. I don't really use the phone for anything but music email and banking. Again any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Everyone,
Im using an att LG G2 with Paranoid Android installed; I bought the phone at release I am pretty sure and through att. I believe it to be PA version 3.4 and Android version 4.3.1 from looking af the about phone settings. Basically Ive had this phone on loan to someone for about a year and it is just bogged down with shovelware. Netflix wont even load. I was comfortable playing around with ROMs before but ive been in the Ios scene lately and am out of practice. I have some recoveries but I'm concerned with having not played around on the phone's root for several years now so I'd rather not use something that may be incomplete.
My main concern is having the phone back to its speed from before, getting rid of all of the apps, and starting fresh. Id like to keep PA, hopefully upgrade to the latest version, but if i can just factory reset that works too. I'm pretty sure i could reinstall PA starting from scratch with a clean phone. I've been through the forums different times and I really do find that the info is all consolidated well. I hope I don't come accross as lazy or unwilling to search, I just had a bad experience flashing my Galaxy S2 so whenever I'm not certain on the process I try to consult with people more involved.
Thank you all for your time,
Andrew Rapp
Forgive me but I've had this phone on the shelf for a bit and am seeing now that paranoid Android is relatively dead. That'd be unfortunate since I really dug the interface! But if it really is no longer being supported would anyone have a suggestion on a ROM upgrade? Thanks again!
Cm13 or 12.1 both available with a few variants based on them just give them a whirl.

I had CM back on my s2! I could get down with checking it out again. Going through their website is a lot of helpful information, however, most of it seems to be garnered at first time users. I'm using this guide here:
https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_d800
and I'm curious if I can skip the first half (installing a custom recovery); because I'm pretty sure I have one installed already from when I flashed PA. How would I go about checking?
Just reboot into recovery to check the version.
But it would be best to update to TWRP 2.8.73 (latest version).
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
So once I've updated TWRP (which I do have installed) I can skip that first half and just do the second part? Thanks for the help btw; really trying to bring the phone back to life since I love the screen and size
If you have flashed Roms before you know the rule, read the first post then read it again then read it a third time
Make sure you have the correct bootstack, I suggest the official CM ROM to start with by Drastic then you can always try the others AICP,Bliss,ResurrectionRemix and Crdroid.
I like AICP for the customisations been on it for a couple of days to try out.

I know, being cautious to a fault here >_< I just ended up using flashify to update twrp; that was easy enough. I'll use the app to make a back up I believe and then try following instructions on the website! Thanks for all your help, hopefully I won't need to return XD but still keeping the topic open just in case!
Nope! I get an error when trying to install the CM zip file. In red it says:
E: Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/cm-12.1-20151117-SNAPSHOT-YOG7DAO1KI-d800.zip'
I was able to get in what appears to be a broken CM installation, which fortunately includes file system exploration and messaging. Accessing the phone from the computer is no problem either. Any idea what the issue here may be?
Bump!
Not sure to be honest,if you have followed the steps in the OP post up in the thread by @drastic and I am sure the more knowledgeable will help you solve the problem.

Ahhh thanks! Yeah I'd been doing the 12.1 downloads from the CM site but yeah that process seems to be the same. Could it be possible that my something weird had been done with the person I loaned the phone too? He liked to tinker and I wouldn't put it passed him to have done something funny with it, or even I before having loaned it. Coud the bootstack be an incorrect? Is there a way I could check?
Can you get the phone back to stock Lollipop,if you think he has played around this may be the best option.

I was thinking that'd be the best option; just to start everything over. Would that process be extensive? I'm on a work computer so I can use recovery and get the files on my phone but anything too complex or needing me to use installers I'll probably have to wait until tomorrow
