Power on lag fixed - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Just a heads up I received a 25mb or so update just now. Surprisingly it installed using a custom recovery but it did.
Lag is completely gone but beware it did unroot my device..

Vibrant OTA update from Tmo

I read some of the threads that they brick their phone after installing J16 OTA from Tmo. I dont know why they brick their phone. We already know that all vibrant user will receive OTA update, right, now this is what I did:
My vibrant, remove one click lag fix from OCLF-RYAN, unroot my vibrant and reboot and do a factory reset. I did all this and the next day I receive OTA update from Tmo, let it install and reboot by itself.
New Task Manager Icon, HD Camcorder and little bit smooth using TW launcher, but Facebook contact sync wont work but according to Tmo, this is a know issue which I agree. Phone is great with J16 update, i root again and install the lagfix V2.+. Did not birck my phone. Hope this helps for those who had not receive OTA and rooted vibrant.
I got a request for an ota just today also.
Can anyone else confirm that's all it is?
Me too.
I delayed it for a day around 1230pm when I woke up from my nap.
Its ji6 iiiiiiiiiii!

I think it bricks my vibrant, just sitting on Vibrant screen after the reboot...
yea. I updated my phone and it stuck on the vibrant screen once i rebooted. The only thing i did was root my phone. No lag fixes. Nothing else. Had to get a replacement phone from Tmobile and unfortunately, its on back order.
i believe you need to factory reset first. delay the update and unroot the phone first and then factory reset. that's what i did, remove lagfix, wifi tether, lcd changer and unroot the phone and factory reset. works with my vibrant.

issues with custom and stock roms

okay as usual ive ran into issues with custom roms so i decided to return back to stock D80020C. i rooted and installed xposed. stock recovery everything. ive been noticing some issues that were there even unrooted. some apps freeze and do not open at all. i have to go into settings/apps and clean the cache and data for it to work properly again.no big deal but becomes a pain after a while. second thing i am noticing is the high memory use this firmware uses. even if i am not on my phone it sits at around 69-72% ram used. i start getting warnings. i try clearing or boosting it using cleanmaster and it shows the ram being cleaned but then a few minutes later the same warning comes up. everything starts lagging. this is insane how this phone is handling nothing on??? jb never had this issue. kk is good but still not yet complete in my opinion.has anyone else been going through this?
It could be due to root. Mine was better after update to KK. Everything slides smoothly, no apparent lag at all. Maybe you can try a hard reset then.

I'm on the same firmware with root/custom recovery but everything is perfect no fc, no need for clearing cache/data, I've always got about 500mb ram which is more than enough(unused ram is wasted ram)

i get no force closes. its just something is weird.
Just got my first random reboot since going back to stock kk. Was browsing with firefox and the keyboard starting lagging majorly then a reboot??? This kk update is very very much making me annoyed. Too much issues. Thinking of just sticking it out with 4.2.2. Everything works there. Gonna give it one last try before i end up getting a new phone....

AT&TS4 freezes after ota update

My sister's sgh-i337 recently received an ota update. This update brought it up to Android version 4.4.4. The phone is not rooted and is completely stock. Since the update the phone will intermittently freeze up for about 30-40 seconds. It happens a lot when she swipes to answer a call but also happens randomly as well. Is this a known issue? Are there any solutions? I have booted to recovery and cleared the caches but that didn't help.

You could try one of the back up programs to My Backup to back up app data & photos then try a factory reset. Also you could check for the 5.01 Ota update that was released last month I think and see if that fixes it. Just be forwarned that some people have reported issues with the 5.01 update but said a factory reset fixes them.

Anyone else get a system update 10 Aug 2015?

Received notification of a system update today, 10 August 2015. I'm a little leery of installing this. I'm at 5.1.1 and after installing 5.1.1, I have the dreaded unannounced deaths where the phone will turn itself at random. Sometimes it will reboot if you hold the power button down for about 15 seconds. Sometimes the charger needs to be plugged in before it will reboot. Sometimes it cycles through all apps before completing the reboot. Sometimes not. If the new update will fix this, I'm all for it. But, I don't want to get fooled again with these updates. So, anyone else get an update? What does it do? Any problems after the update? Thanks.

It's the first update of Google's announced security patch program. Expect frequent OS updates now to address security issues. This one patches the well publicized Stagefright MMS exploit.
That was my guess. I rarely text, or other, message, so I'm not too worried about Stagefright. My gut tells me to wait until others have installed. I have enough memory leak auto turn-off issues, that I'm afraid of making my phone worse than it is.
If Google would be so kind as to include a memory leak resolution in these updates, I'd jump all over it.
Well I had been postponing updating to Lollipop for months... (was still on 4.4.4 cuz I didn't quite like the new UI) and decided to update Sunday morning.
Big mistake.
The OTA 5.1.1 5.0.1 update made my phone become unstable, lag, and crash at random. Constantly get "X ins't responding", where X can be anything from Launcher to System UI to Chrome!
I currently can't even use my N4, and I'm trying to find a way to revert the upgrade, My 4.4.4 was rooted, and now it's not and I can't even enter Recovery mode.
Not sure if it's 100% related to your troubles, but I've been having similar random reboots lately and just general instability.
Edit: my bad, I just realized it was 5.0.1 I upgraded to.
update aug 10, 2015
I saw the update and thought it would be a good idea but I now have a tablet stuck in reboot loop. Have tried everything (clearing data, factory reset, etc) and still not able to get past looping. Might want to wait before you update.

You have to lock your bootloader for Ota to work.

I don't think your bootloader has to be locked, but since 5.+ you do have to be unrooted with no changes to your /system partition. I know I have sideloaded the OTA after flashing stock images. Just did not want the poster to lock their bootloader and brick themselves thinking they will be able to boot the OTA if they have modified /system at all.

lag, freeze, restart after 6.0.1

hey guys, today i bought a used NOTE 4 for my mother, and when i checked the version it was 6.0.1...so i wiped everything and restarted the phone to get the best performance....but the phone lags and freezes a lot, especially in the camera, and it keep restarting all the time....what should i do? should i try to flash another FW through ODIN?
You mean you used the Factory reset option? That's not a full wipe, just resetting stuffs. And yes, you know the answer, wipe everything from a custom recovery, then flash stock MM ROM (always latest) via Odin. Earlier versions did have a reboot problem though, and lags here and there, but that's expected, but the last release, PE1, has got rid of all those problems, its a very good release already, and I am sure upcoming releases will only make it better. There are no major bugs at all, I don't even find any minor bugs except the need for a separate app to clear default apps selection.
Best of luck.

the phone is stock, it has the stock recovery, and i have the PE1 version, the exact name is "MMB29M.N910FXXU1DPE1"...and still got a lot of lag, freeze and rebooting.....is there another version?
EDIT: ok, so i flashed another MM through odin ( first time it gave me a fail) and then done a factory reset, now it's so much better, maybe not as smooth as my S6 but really fast and smooth enough...thanks for the help
EDIT: today the phone started to shutdown completly....not reboot....and you need to press the power button 10 seconds to reboot it or turn it on...is there any advice?
Guys . Ib tead the whole thread over last few day had wake lovk runnimg last couple weeks. Lastnight used kies for reset and it crashed half way.
I then used odin 307 and went back to stock 501
It booted strarted to restore from google apps ect .
I allowed the 1st 601 update
All apps running aok no crashing freezing no wakelock .. its asking for another 601 update. Im gonna hold back
Hope this helps .. will post agian in gew days with any updates
Good luck !!
Just download and install Wake Lock from Google Play Store. I had the same problem and more. Once I installed Wake Lock (on a fresh install from Android 5 up to all the 6.0..1 builds) phone doesn't shut off or freeze. Most importantly no more Boot Loops..
