lag, freeze, restart after 6.0.1 - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys, today i bought a used NOTE 4 for my mother, and when i checked the version it was 6.0.1...so i wiped everything and restarted the phone to get the best performance....but the phone lags and freezes a lot, especially in the camera, and it keep restarting all the time....what should i do? should i try to flash another FW through ODIN?

You mean you used the Factory reset option? That's not a full wipe, just resetting stuffs. And yes, you know the answer, wipe everything from a custom recovery, then flash stock MM ROM (always latest) via Odin. Earlier versions did have a reboot problem though, and lags here and there, but that's expected, but the last release, PE1, has got rid of all those problems, its a very good release already, and I am sure upcoming releases will only make it better. There are no major bugs at all, I don't even find any minor bugs except the need for a separate app to clear default apps selection.
Best of luck.

the phone is stock, it has the stock recovery, and i have the PE1 version, the exact name is "MMB29M.N910FXXU1DPE1"...and still got a lot of lag, freeze and rebooting.....is there another version?
EDIT: ok, so i flashed another MM through odin ( first time it gave me a fail) and then done a factory reset, now it's so much better, maybe not as smooth as my S6 but really fast and smooth enough...thanks for the help
EDIT: today the phone started to shutdown completly....not reboot....and you need to press the power button 10 seconds to reboot it or turn it on...is there any advice?

Guys . Ib tead the whole thread over last few day had wake lovk runnimg last couple weeks. Lastnight used kies for reset and it crashed half way.
I then used odin 307 and went back to stock 501
It booted strarted to restore from google apps ect .
I allowed the 1st 601 update
All apps running aok no crashing freezing no wakelock .. its asking for another 601 update. Im gonna hold back
Hope this helps .. will post agian in gew days with any updates
Good luck !!

Just download and install Wake Lock from Google Play Store. I had the same problem and more. Once I installed Wake Lock (on a fresh install from Android 5 up to all the 6.0..1 builds) phone doesn't shut off or freeze. Most importantly no more Boot Loops..

[Q] Help! 2.2 Problems and 2.1 Revert!

Hi There thismorning I flashed my i5800 that I purchased from Carphone Warehouse with the I5800XWJPF 2.2 firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063940 using ODIN.
The first time I tried it all seemed to be successful, and I then proceeded to root it with SuperOneClick and began restoring my phone using titanium. Then halfway through it crashed, and with no input from me my phone rebooted. It then got stuck on the I5800 boot screen. I finally managed to get it to work be re-flashing the JPF firmware. I Then factory reset the phone (forgot to last time). Now I have finally managed to restore to my phone to how it was.. ish.
When I reboot the phone it take forever to run the Media Scanner and no widgets other that the Google search load up. Also icons are missing. Aswell as thos issues the phone runs slower than it did, and crashes often. I have fired up angry birds and it was just a juttering mess. Based on all this I decided to revert back to 2.1.. and oh oh.. can't find my firmware.
My initial firmwares were:
PDA: I5800XXJG7
Phone: I5800XXJG3
CSC:I5800XXJG5
It was rooted using z4 root and had live wallpapers enabled.

Okay, it seems to have now settled down after several reboots, but it seems to loose around 30% of the home screen icons upon reboot. Is this normal? And does it happen on the JPM firmware that was suggested above?

No it is not normal. Do a factory reset, flash any 2.1 rom from www.samfirmware.com and then JPM.
Peace...

I've got XWJPF and no problems. It runs very smooth. Something else is wrong.
Try flashing it to the earliest stock version of 2.1 that works, do a factory reset, then using Samsung kies, update it to the latest version available on there. Then try and reflash your choice of 2.2 rom. I had similar trouble with mine when I first started. I would recommend flashing CWM recovery as well, the samsung recovery is crap. XXJPQ seems to be available now and is getting some good reviews, fast and stable like JPF, but more up to date. Also try using SuperOneClick to root, has the best results to my knowledge. Some roms take a while to load all the app icons on boot, depending on the amount of apps you have it can sometimes take a little bit. I've found letting the phone go idle for a minute can get rid of the loadup lag. The ram gets topped out easily on the G3 if you have lots of apps that load at startup, which will severely slow the phone down.
Hope this helps!
More Problems
Okay, Now after a few restarts and crossing my fingers the icon thing has started to work, aswell as everything else clearing up. But now the app sizes are very small according to application manager, (angry birds - 2.2mb) and many third party apps reading 0bytes. Another thing is that Bluetooth refuses to work. It vibrates once when enabled, then another 3 times in quick succession and then the force close dialog appears. After clicking force close the box disappears and the phone responds again. I then manage to pai with a device but when I went to send a file, the dialog box and the vibrates appeared again and it refused to send. Any ways to fix?

Factory reset->reflash->factory reset.
Keep back ups!
All that you say is abnormal.
About your disappearing icons:
Are you using the (stock) TouchWiz launcher? If so, that has a (known) bug on 2.2 that all links to apps which were moved to sd card disappear if you unmount the card (which includes reboot). Are the apps that disappear on the sd card?
Reflash
Okay, to start with I will try the factory reset, flash, factory reset that was suggested. And by the way the disappearing apps were not on the sd card... Strange.. If this failds i will do as suggested by flashing to the earliest version, the update via Kies. I was trying to avoid this because of internet allowance..
Thanks for all the replies by the way

I'm halfway through restoring my settings via Titanium, and I keep getting the single vibrate, roughly 10 second delay, than a very fast triple vibrate, exactly the same as it did just before bluetooth crashed... Is something else wrong?
Okay, I've restored rooted and reflashed it and... ... still the same..
Titanium
Is it possible that this is caused by me restoring my phone settings from 2.1 to 2.2 through titanium?
If you need the original firmware to return it to stock pm me and ill upload it somewhere for you
I have just sent a bluetooth file! After another flash and wipe.. but havent restored or rooted. Don't think I will bother really. I now have a working phone! Thank you!
You must restore only apps. Restoring system configurations and apps data will cause problems. If I'm wrong correct me.

OMG same here i get random reboots. though it hardly ever happens to me, nothing is affected and everything is fine, but its just weird. ive not tried the SystemServer Crash Fix in Wanam, though this may help. :good: when it comes to freezes it happens all the time to every device so no real explanation- at least not from me. though greenifying apps and de bloating and etc would help if this is consistant. - i my slef havent de bloated anything and only greenify apps. you could also try a factory reset.
I have tried wanam crash fix still the same problem, i guess its more than rom selection.

I'd format everything in TWRP, system data cache internal, the lot.
Then power off the phone and it will warn you that there is no OS installed. Then boot to download mode with the button combo.. then flash the latest stock rom via odin
I use v3.09

Hey mate, I have a HK note, can't seem to find latest 4.4.2/4 firmware, so I tried N9005XXUFNF4_N9005OXAFNF4_BTU but failed on ext4 system etc... so i just flashed the latest N4 bootloader, flash twrp, a rom, same freezing issue.
Anyone else?

That's your problem then. You flashed incompatible software on a HK Note. HK notes are slightly different to the normal note due to software. Find the latest HK software and have a nose around the HK guides and read how to fix, it's a common problem (or it was once at least) and can be fixed, so don't panic too much

Ok cool thanks, i checked samfirmware and nudda?
I have previously softbricked my note when kk first came out and had to flash the chinese Rom / sweet from combo to bring it back, are you saying to flash that chinese rom again?
Im not sure what started the trouble as i was running xnote for a while perfectly.
I found this firmware on samsung updates "N9005ZHUENH4" flashed it, seemed to be ok for the last couple days, today I rooted the phone and boom, back to freezing and restarting.
I re-flashed BL, Modem + CSC from the HK recovery rom, but it wouldn't let me flash AP :s
I just flashed g00h s5 rom, I can't get past the inital setup steps :/
What do I need to re-flash the phone to totally factory, seems there is still something screwing it all up :/
herrrooo???
Have flashed multiple times, cannot shake this problem.

[Q] Safest way to load 5.0 on my rooted Note 4?

Hi guys,
Have just spent the last couple of hours trying to research this but still not quite sure what's the best (safest!!) way of upgrading to lollipop on my SM-910G. I am rooted and currently on 4.4.4 and when I try to do an OTA update, I get the msg "The operating system has been modified in an unauthorised way.... etc etc"
When I connect via Kies, I get a pop up msg telling me that lollipop is available however when I try to update it tells me that I have to be unrooted. I read an article where some guy messed up his rooted S4 while trying to update via Kies. Can't afford for that to happen on my phone, I've backed up all my apps and data via Titanium Backup but now need to know what the safest way is to upgrade and keep all my settings etc.
I've downloaded the right 5.0 ROM (N910GDTU1BOC5_N910GXSA1BOC5_XSA.zip) for my model - am I correct to say that if I flash via Odin, I will lose all my apps and settings (and root)?
If I want to update and keep all my settings, am I safe to unroot via SuperSU, then update via Kies? I've read about how unrooting via SuperSU isn't really a complete unroot?
At the end of the day unless I'm 100% certain I will probably stay on 4.4.4 since there has been some horror stories with battery drain and stuff on 5.0
Has anyone been in a similar situation?

hi
Just a few points ...First if you " dirty flash" official stock Rom with Odin, then you will lose root ( so to me there is no need to unroot first ) However you do not loose any 3 rd party apps or settings . Also i never use Kies as my personal experience is that it is a waist of time .Regarding Lollipop well i have flashed several newer " version"/changelog/dated of Lollipop 5.0.1 over the past months and all of them have been good to me...( ..overall.) No real battery drain ,no lag ( only recent button and one " Samsung bug in the setting " Accessibilty" .
All my "problems " on Lollipop, on and off, was caused by 3 rd party apps
eg.Past few days i had suddenly random reboots over and over .i reflashed Lollipol ,i factory reset ,but the random reboots continued .
i then started to install all my +_ 162 ..?? apps one by one and checked
Eventually found my culprit ..'Greenify " (the experimental paid ,bolt on package, which is meant mostly for Xposed module with few functions you can also use without Xposed eg "don't remove Notifications " and Greenify system apps l)
After using Greenify for months with no issues it suddenly started giving problems .
So i could have given Lollipop the blame for my woes but i did not .
Yes I do believe Lollipop has issues ,but overall i cannot complain .
yes ,Titanuim is the way to go .
Also i "unrooted " via SuperUser app once, no problem at all, but then why do this if you just flash over it and root is gone
Bottom line ,
you can be "stuck " on Android v4.4.4 hoping and waiting .......?
or faceup to Lollipop ?
its your choice ?
good luck
Hey willcor thanks for the reply! Good to hear your experiences with this. Interestingly I've had a similar problem of sluggishness, lag and random rebooting (multiple times a day) on my Note 4 running kitkat. This went on for about 2 or 3 days. Tried installing some recently installed apps thinking it might have caused it, and now it seems it's fixed itself, I think??
Even pulling the battery and restarting often took ages to boot. Took my 128GB SD card out and tried to boot thinking maybe it was the card but it still lagged and restarted by itself. Like I said it seems ok now and has been ok for the last few days, but now that you mention Greenify, I have that installed too along with a few exposed modules. This rebooting problem is what motivated me to think about upgrading to lollipop to see if it would fix it.
Going by what you said, if I am not going to lose apps, data and settings, then I might flash to lollipop, then re-root. Sounds like the way to go. Maybe...

hi,
Just a quick remark. When i was on Android v4.4.4, most of my issues eg. Private mode S HEALTH... (yes i know there was quick fixes /patches , that you could apply) Play store not installing apps, lags from time to time etc was caused by Xposed Framework. As far as i can remember Xposed was never optimise for Android v4.4.4? As "good" as Xposed was, it gave me "terrible headache /problems" on my Note 4....... even after uninstalling Xposed it broke some apps functionality! (This is a fact for me) . but yet, on all my other devices, no issues ! As stated in my previous post, that Lollipop experience, has been over all, very good for me.,(I have accepted the few bugs, that comes with every software update be it Android v4.4.4 or Android v 5.0.1.)
Lollipop also enabled me to use other apps /features eg Network Toggle app (change network only to LTE or LTE/3G or 3G only.. root required)
Bottom line
for me is.... yes, Lollipop has issues, but most of mine was caused by 3rd party apps not optimised 100% , work smoothly on Lollipop.
good luck
..............................
post note....
Titanium, i forgot, you might have some minor issues at first. Titanium could not find backup folder on my ext sd same as on Android v4.4.4) , so i used NextApp Sdfix (Play store, free app) Titanium, then was able to locate back ups. Again yesterday, i factory reset my device because of a Nova launcher, toggle notification issue and because i also wanted to for a period of time.
Titanium could not write and above NextApp Sdfix said i had no write premisson after running NextApp. i formatted my ext sd on laptop and NextApp did its work and Titanium working 100%
Just thought to make you aware if issue arrived.
Thanks... I forget all these root features have to be redone. I've also given extsd access on kitkat after rooting. Will have to do it all over again I guess!
Ok just a quick update. Flashed to 5.0.1 with Odin and rooted with CFautoroot. Everything seems to be ok apart from after rooting and rebooting, I got a "could not do normal boot" msg, saying that the phone was in download mode and not to disconnect the target. I pulled the batt and booted up normally ok. Checked in Titanium and found root access ok, activated write to SD and all seems normal.
Things seem a bit sluggish with lollipop, so I uninstalled xposed (which now won't work on this version), greenify and some other apps, and booted into recovery to wipe cache partition. When it was done wiping the cache and said to reboot, I got the same "could not do normal boot" msg. Once again I pulled the battery and it booted ok.
Not sure what has happened or if anything is affected - should I re-flash 5.0 with Odin and re-root all over again?

hi,
i am sure i read somewhere about.re: your remark, when you rooted and got a msg, with
"could not do a normal reboot... I am sure it could be ( @ Chainfire,) Cf autoroot website not sure.?
I would have search for a answer /reason!/ explanation Then i would afterwards, reflash Rom. (depends on you)
Just a quick question.... At what stage did you uninstall Xposed....? before /after flashing etc. i stated before that i found Xposed "broke /caused issues after i uninstalling it. (facts about two or three times it happened , in past )
Also i had no problem in using Greenify again (i have re installed it) its just the donation /paid / experimental package i am a bit hesitant with.

Hey guys, I have since reflashed and rerooted and now seem to have less problems, although the phone is still sluggish, randomly locking up and restarting , and sometimes restarting to the green android "could not do normal boot" screen.
Question now is, can I boot into stock recovery to do a factory reset? I've done some research but the views seem conflicting. Is this recommended, will I be stuck in a bootloop and will I still be rooted after the reset?
I never did a factory reset when flashing from 4.4 to 5.0.1 so I'm hoping this will fix the issues I've got now.

SM-N910G Stock - Contently freezing, restarting to download mode and data lose

Hey all,
I found few similar threads, but none of the solutions worked for me. So here's my situation
Problem : N910G Singapore Starhub, used for more than 1 and half years without major issues. Suddenly started to randomly freeze and then restart.
Got worse very quickly. Started to get freezed at Samsung logo. Most of the time had to remove the battery to re-try booting.
What I've done so far:
Cache cleared -> Didn't work
Factory reset -> Was ok with less lag (Freezing) for sometime, then same again
Installed TWRP. Flashed PIT file. Following an XDA post, flashed Samsung stock Android 6 released to India -> Was ok for couple days, was better than 5.1 in terms of responsiveness and battery life. After few days, again freeze. restart
Flashed with stock 5.1 released for the correct region. -> freezing, restarts. Wifi passwords are not getting saved (Have to re-enter upon restart). Restarts end up in download mode. very rarely passes the Samsung logo
Rooted and tried to change build prop ro.securestorage.support (or something similar) and see whether passwords are getting saved -> Still passwords are not getting saved. /efs is accessible.
Now the device never boots properly. Some apps are missing after restarts. Always ends up in download mode. Recovery is working fine though.
You guys have any idea what else I should try before throwing this away?
Thanks in advance.

Cache cleared -> Didn't work
Factory reset -> Was ok with less lag (Freezing) for sometime, then same again

If you know how, I'd use Odin to restore the factory image if you're running the factory software. Performing a hard reset is always the best way to go, however if you're still having problems then I'd download the latest firmware from Samsung's firmware site and then Odin.
Developers don't need no stinkin' signature!
If I've been able to help you, please hit the "Thanks" button. *

Thanks for the reply Android Ninja. As the last resort, I did flash the correct stock firmware which I downloaded from Sammobile. But it didn't really fix the issue. So should I unroot and use Kies instead? Because I can't find a way to download the fireware from Samsung, if that's what u meant. thanks

[solved] Phone is acting weird ... random reboots shortly after boot

Hi there,
I started this topic because I am out of options and I don't know what to do at this point.
My Phone is a XT1562 DualSim.
I recently flashed http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/development/rom-spetrum-mm-volte-t3462690 and I also installed "MODEM" (MPD24.107-70) from page 1, but not right away.
First I wiped everything expect "internal storage". The phone booted but it restarted during boot (which might be okay) but then it rebooted again during boot. The boot process finally finished and I got to the screen "Android is starting - Optimising app x of y." The phone rebooted even during that process and that is definitely not normal I think. So after a couple of reboots android did finally optimise all apps but the phone did still reboot withing the first 30 seconds after it was booted.
From here I did a lot of testing and doing. These are my findings:
- When I set phone to flight mode / airplane mode it does NOT reboot... Hurray!
- When I flash another ROM (Official CM 13, http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...m-cyanogenmod-13-preview-moto-x-play-t3252255) the phone runs like a charm, NO reboots whatsoever.
- - But as soon as I flash gapps and the phone is booted, I get the reboots again (usually within the first 30 seconds).
- - Again setting the phone to flight mode prevents itself from rebooting.
- - Apparently it doesn't matter what version of gapps I flash. I even tested the light version (ARM, 6.0, Pico, from http://opengapps.org/). It still reboots. I also tried gapps mini and stock.
Oh and I don't think its MODEM (mentioned above) related, because I faced these problems already before I installed / updated the MODEM. Well I thought its MODEM related, that's why I went back to MODEM stock version MPD24.107-52 but that did't help either. I should mention that I am not sure if I had MPD24.107-52 installed originally but spetrum (the rom developer) pointed me to that version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69129552
I also restored my working TWRP backup from an android I used for month and guess what, yep, reboots
brrrrr this is frustrating
I never experienced that before and frankly I am out of ideas.
Anything is welcome and appreciated
Thank you
If nothing helps reflashing the whole firmware is always an option

Thanks I haven't done that.
To be clear, you mean firmware as in stock rom / factory image?
I always go back to flashing stock rom with rsdlite whenever things went wrong and I can't solve it by flashing small fixes.

I mean full stock firmware you flash with fastboot or RSD. Roms are usually only system + kernel, so not very helpful in your case
Guys! Good news. I did go back to stock firmware and from there to official CM13. Of course I had to root and install TWRP again but it was worth it.
I lost a few days spending my time with it but I'm glad its all good now thanks to you.
