Hi There thismorning I flashed my i5800 that I purchased from Carphone Warehouse with the I5800XWJPF 2.2 firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063940 using ODIN.
The first time I tried it all seemed to be successful, and I then proceeded to root it with SuperOneClick and began restoring my phone using titanium. Then halfway through it crashed, and with no input from me my phone rebooted. It then got stuck on the I5800 boot screen. I finally managed to get it to work be re-flashing the JPF firmware. I Then factory reset the phone (forgot to last time). Now I have finally managed to restore to my phone to how it was.. ish.
When I reboot the phone it take forever to run the Media Scanner and no widgets other that the Google search load up. Also icons are missing. Aswell as thos issues the phone runs slower than it did, and crashes often. I have fired up angry birds and it was just a juttering mess. Based on all this I decided to revert back to 2.1.. and oh oh.. can't find my firmware.
My initial firmwares were:
PDA: I5800XXJG7
Phone: I5800XXJG3
CSC:I5800XXJG5
It was rooted using z4 root and had live wallpapers enabled.
Help!
What can i do to fix this?

Okay, it seems to have now settled down after several reboots, but it seems to loose around 30% of the home screen icons upon reboot. Is this normal? And does it happen on the JPM firmware that was suggested above?

No it is not normal. Do a factory reset, flash any 2.1 rom from www.samfirmware.com and then JPM.
Peace...

I've got XWJPF and no problems. It runs very smooth. Something else is wrong.
Try flashing it to the earliest stock version of 2.1 that works, do a factory reset, then using Samsung kies, update it to the latest version available on there. Then try and reflash your choice of 2.2 rom. I had similar trouble with mine when I first started. I would recommend flashing CWM recovery as well, the samsung recovery is crap. XXJPQ seems to be available now and is getting some good reviews, fast and stable like JPF, but more up to date. Also try using SuperOneClick to root, has the best results to my knowledge. Some roms take a while to load all the app icons on boot, depending on the amount of apps you have it can sometimes take a little bit. I've found letting the phone go idle for a minute can get rid of the loadup lag. The ram gets topped out easily on the G3 if you have lots of apps that load at startup, which will severely slow the phone down.
Hope this helps!
More Problems
Okay, Now after a few restarts and crossing my fingers the icon thing has started to work, aswell as everything else clearing up. But now the app sizes are very small according to application manager, (angry birds - 2.2mb) and many third party apps reading 0bytes. Another thing is that Bluetooth refuses to work. It vibrates once when enabled, then another 3 times in quick succession and then the force close dialog appears. After clicking force close the box disappears and the phone responds again. I then manage to pai with a device but when I went to send a file, the dialog box and the vibrates appeared again and it refused to send. Any ways to fix?

Factory reset->reflash->factory reset.
Keep back ups!
All that you say is abnormal.
About your disappearing icons:
Are you using the (stock) TouchWiz launcher? If so, that has a (known) bug on 2.2 that all links to apps which were moved to sd card disappear if you unmount the card (which includes reboot). Are the apps that disappear on the sd card?
Reflash
Okay, to start with I will try the factory reset, flash, factory reset that was suggested. And by the way the disappearing apps were not on the sd card... Strange.. If this failds i will do as suggested by flashing to the earliest version, the update via Kies. I was trying to avoid this because of internet allowance..
Thanks for all the replies by the way

Rooting and restoring.. will post results in a few minutes time!
I'm halfway through restoring my settings via Titanium, and I keep getting the single vibrate, roughly 10 second delay, than a very fast triple vibrate, exactly the same as it did just before bluetooth crashed... Is something else wrong?
Okay, I've restored rooted and reflashed it and... ... still the same..
Titanium
Is it possible that this is caused by me restoring my phone settings from 2.1 to 2.2 through titanium?
If you need the original firmware to return it to stock pm me and ill upload it somewhere for you
I have just sent a bluetooth file! After another flash and wipe.. but havent restored or rooted. Don't think I will bother really. I now have a working phone! Thank you!
You must restore only apps. Restoring system configurations and apps data will cause problems. If I'm wrong correct me.

Just done the lag fix for my Galaxy S and it all seemed to go through fine. Tried running Quandrant benchmark to test it but it crashed. I turned the phone off and on, got the Galaxy S i9000 screen then is just goes blank, literally nothing, not even the menu or back lights. Had to then take the battery out to reboot but got the same blank screen.
I can boot into recovery but rebooting from that doesn't work either, does anyone know how to fix this? don't want to try anything for fear of making it worse

Try getting into the Recovery Mode with the 3 button combo
instruction on wiki http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/GT-I9000
What lag fix are you using and what firmware are you on?
wont boot..
Hi, strangely but after the 2.2 upgrade on my SGS (it was JF5 and I made the trick with the registry to JPC and upgrade via KIES) it happened to me as well.. just a beautiful "S" blinking on the screen and nothing happens. On the time of upgrade in the instructions it was written that with the 3combo trick to make factory reset.. then everything worked just fine until yesterday...
Without installing any new apps, just browsing and trying to make my AllShare working.. I decided to gave up and without reason I have decided to restart my phone just to free RAM and etc.. And by no reason at all I got the same ****ty "S" screen and no boot.. tried first to wipe the cache.. didn't help.. and just after again factory reset it worked out and the phone is okay...
So probably for you the solution is really only factory reset, however this is very strange behavior
When I first applied the lagfix from the market in apk type it required an auto reboot to see if things wokred ok (as prompted on the screen).
Anyway, my phone stuck to a black screen and I was in a very inconvenient situation not to be able to use a PC (yeah, now I know I shouldn't mess with stuff like that while I'm on-the-go).
Long story short, after a couple of manual reboots (by taking out the battery for some seconds) it came back to life and no problems ever since. So before flashing (which can be rather incovenient if you have no backups etc) try the above mentioned method.
Original JF3 firmware (yeah need to change that).
I downloaded the kies version of the firmware of the froyo update and updated the firmware using odin.
After i installed froyo, i wanted to root to apply swype patch and everthing went ok but when i restarted, the phone was stuck on the i5801 loading screen for about an hour
so i flashed the firmware again.
Odin saves the data onto phone and restarts the phone and the phone opens recovery mode but now it gets stuck on a screen saying "delete app data"... "delete files please wait" and it has been stuck there for about 3 hours now and even when i try and open recovery mode, it opens but then this screen comes up
i tried flashing multiple times but nothing works, cant even factory reset now
Please help me out..
note:odin for a change shows a disabled reset time box.. it is faded out)
add http and enter "dl.dropbox.com/u/26157339/compressed.jpg"
here is a screenshot of the screen at which my phone has been stuck for about 3 hours
Also suggest if i should go to the service center coz the phone is under warranty, i really doubt theyd do it for free considering its rooted but i dont mind paying up.
And let me know if there is anyway the service center ppl will know i rooted/flashed
Try taking out the battery and then putting it back, and press the 2 volume buttons+home+power until the phone boots up in recovery mode... Try wipping the memory from there
that is the entire problem, as soon as it goes into recovery mode it starts off like shown in the screenshot
therefore it is not displaying the menu (which has options to factory reset/clear cache) instead its jumping directly to the update sequence but then getting stuck at deleting apps
Try flashing a different firmware, such as an eclair rom. Note that your phone is 5801, so look for those firmwares.

k ill try flashing an eclair rom. I did flash firmware specific to my version it self..
But the problem is that even after the flashing is done, the recovery window has to open where the update begins and thats when the "deleting apps" screen kicks in and doesnt progress
never the less ill try flashing another rom/firmware and see
Hmm, that is weird. Did you flash the bootloader?
tried flsahing a eclair firmware but no luck..
odin runs for a couple of mins, and says pass but still the phone is stuck on the delecting apps screen..'
For some odd reason, my recovery mode is hell bent on deleting some apps but is not able to and is getting stuck and therefore i cant reset/ clear cache..
Do u ppl think this could be coz of the root??
Please suggest something, i dont want to know my phone is bricked for ever considering its not even been a year since i bought it
a second flashing of eclair did it thanks man!!!
it usually works if you flash the very first rom that worked the last time you got problems.
did you flash with your sdcard in your phone?
anyways im just glad you fixed it

Having a few problems, very sluggish and buggy at times. The alarm doesnt work, whatever the alarm is set for the clock will just skip over that time, never seen that. Slow to respond when making calls. Play store doesnt really work, says downloading apps but will never actually finish the download and install anything. Any ideas at this point???

I really think you should try resetting it to factory default and try downloading the apps again. If its sluggish at times, there must be something you have installed on the phone. Is it rooted?
What ROM are you running? Stock Kernel? As the previous poster suggested, FACTORY RESET and see what happens.
Yes, you'll loose everything on the phone, but it's a small price to pay.....

Since its completely stock, yes you have to reset it. Factory Reset but not from the settings. I have been in the same situation before and I tried resetting it from the Recovery Mode which eventually helped.
Backup all your contacts, media files from your devices storage, S Notes (if not backed up by your Samsung account and other important files from the storage. If using a SD card in the phone, do backup ur media and just format it from your PC. Then reinsert it in the phone, turn the phone on using Recovery Mode (Vol Up + Home Btn + Power Btn) and Clear/erase the cache and then reset it. Turn the phone on if it doesnt automatically, set it up according to yourself and voila it would eventually work. Format ur SD Card using ur phone now and move all your data back in.
the problem I see is that there must be something unwanted and it installed on the device which causes various issues just like a virus. I hope this will help you out. I have done it on S4, S3 , Note 2 and Galaxy Grand and it did help me and my friends out. The same problem was there to deal with. Try it! Let us know if it worked.

This should be normal because MarshMallow was just released so its buggy for everyone ?
exact same problems that i'm having. the phone has become unusable. i have flashed 5.01 and its working again, but now...google didn't even load my old apps. so i have a totally fresh phone,,,which is a p-is take. at least its working. i'll try 5.1.1 when i download it.
i sat and messed about for a few hours and it working mostly ive managed to get the apps updated and seems alot more stable still get the odd lag and slow load on apps but it's not usable i think my main probelm was the apps once they updated "which they where stuck on" its seems to have sorted a few of the issue's

i have tried to reset the phone 3 times aswell as a fresh install of the firmware 3 times same responce each time my phone seems to be going through stages of working fine not working fine and being unresponsive seems to be the fingerprint scanner crashing alot and also just freezing just typing on the handset
To coatsy101 :
Give it to Samsung authorized service centre. If your phone is under warranty, they will not charge you. No problem if they charge you if your phone is out of warranty. Do not flash any firmware by yourself. It will brick your phone by deleting its IMEI. Beware of this !!!. So give it to the Samsung authorized service centre in your country. Search in google and find out.
phone is totally mashed. it still freezes and lags , then reboots. works ok for a bit then,,,same thing.
i've never had this happen before. always got fixed by flashing firmware. but this is new to me...tried so many different firmware now...i just cant understand it.
might root and try a custom rom next see if that helps. (
well the closet samsung place is about 3+ hour drive so i wont be doing that. kris 3 is all ive been using to reinstall the marshmellow update and the 3 factory resets ive done ive gave up with it basicaly at work and sit for 5 to 10 minutes waiting for it to unlock somethimes ive disabled thh fingerprint scanner which has helped slightly but still u unuseble my head is battard with it
i've done numerous factory resets and tried different firmwares. it is the same, works for a few minutes then suddenly will freeze and come back after 30 seconds or so...or do a reboot. i've re-partioned nand wipe factory wipe cache wipe .
don't know what else to do. will root and run a custom rom as a last resort before smashing it and throwing it in the bin

You have to use Odin 3.10 or 3.11
Turn On Developer Mode on your phone by going to Settings > About Device > Build Number > Tapping Build Number 7 times
Then go back to Settings, you'll see Developer Options now, click it and then check USB debugging
Switch off phone, then hold Volume Down, Home and Power at the same time, it'll ask if you wanna download OS, then press Volume Up
Unzip Marshmallow file, Run Odin on your PC, then connect phone, make sure it registers with Odin, it'll say "Added" means registered
Select the Unzipped Marshmallow file by checking AP and then pressing AP, don't touch anything else, wait for the selected file to be checked, the START at the bottom will be grayed out, but within seconds it will come back again, now press START
This will flash your phone with the selected Marshmallow file, wait until, ODIN says PASS with Green, now you can disconnect, phone will restart automatically.
DON'T PRESS ANY BUTTONS apart from AP and START when flashing

is therer a app to see what apps could be causing it cos i just done a factory reset again this morning and it was running fine and then playstore updated the standard apps and it seems to have gone slow again..... FOAMING....
hey guys, today i bought a used NOTE 4 for my mother, and when i checked the version it was 6.0.1...so i wiped everything and restarted the phone to get the best performance....but the phone lags and freezes a lot, especially in the camera, and it keep restarting all the time....what should i do? should i try to flash another FW through ODIN?
You mean you used the Factory reset option? That's not a full wipe, just resetting stuffs. And yes, you know the answer, wipe everything from a custom recovery, then flash stock MM ROM (always latest) via Odin. Earlier versions did have a reboot problem though, and lags here and there, but that's expected, but the last release, PE1, has got rid of all those problems, its a very good release already, and I am sure upcoming releases will only make it better. There are no major bugs at all, I don't even find any minor bugs except the need for a separate app to clear default apps selection.
Best of luck.

EDIT: ok, so i flashed another MM through odin ( first time it gave me a fail) and then done a factory reset, now it's so much better, maybe not as smooth as my S6 but really fast and smooth enough...thanks for the help
EDIT: today the phone started to shutdown completly....not reboot....and you need to press the power button 10 seconds to reboot it or turn it on...is there any advice?
Guys . Ib tead the whole thread over last few day had wake lovk runnimg last couple weeks. Lastnight used kies for reset and it crashed half way.
I then used odin 307 and went back to stock 501
It booted strarted to restore from google apps ect .
I allowed the 1st 601 update
All apps running aok no crashing freezing no wakelock .. its asking for another 601 update. Im gonna hold back
Hope this helps .. will post agian in gew days with any updates
Good luck !!
Just download and install Wake Lock from Google Play Store. I had the same problem and more. Once I installed Wake Lock (on a fresh install from Android 5 up to all the 6.0..1 builds) phone doesn't shut off or freeze. Most importantly no more Boot Loops..
