Hi. I'm running a nexus 4 at 4.3 jellybean. I want to update to 4.4 kitkat. My device is rooted and I'm afraid if I do an OTA I might brick my device. How do I update my rooted nexus 4. Thanks.
Are you using stock or custom ROM?

Im assuming that you are on JWR66Y build number. If that is true download this and flash via recovery.
Flashing 4.4
I have a Nexus 4 on 4.3, JWR66Y running Purity build 8/26/13.
I'm wondering which file I should use to flash the new 4.4 to my phone. I thought I was suppose to use a factory image to flash fresh into a new google image, but each time I used SkipSoft Toolkit, it never was able to flash the system.img. It would say 'error: cannot load system.img' or something and the entire flashing process would end ubruptly.
Am I not flashing the right image? Should I go to stock then do the OTA update? What do you suggest as I'm not very skilled in teh nexus hacking :cyclops:

Currently on a 4.2.2 custom kernel and rom. I was wondering if I actually had to go through the hassle of relocking and flashing the stock 4.3 image or can I just flash the radio and bootloader on their own and then flash one of the pre-rooted 4.3 roms?
Is there anything in the stock image besides the radio and bootloader that won't be found in one of the 4.3 roms that are being released?
You technically don't even need to update your boot loader or radio. I used the 4.3 leak just by flashing the rooted ROM. When the official 4.3 was released, I just flashed the new boot loader and radio in recovery and flashed the ROM. No problem.

I guess there is no need for relocking your phone!
You can flash the leaked rooted ROM version.. Just look in development forum!

I updated my nexus 4 to 4.3 and now the nexus root toolkit can't root it ........ so i'm trying to downgrade to 4.2.2 to root
or, if possible root the 4.3 android ..... any ideas ?
In the Nexus 4 Toolkit, follow the instructions to install TWRP, then download chainfire's SU binary for the nexus 4 and flash it. Bam! You're rooted.

Lots of ideas... Don't rely on a toolkit to start with. Second, employ some intrepid googling with queries like "root android 4.3".
Chainfire has a version of supersu that will work for 4.3, easily installed via custom recovery like TWRP. No need to go back to 4.2.2.

Will this operation wipe your data?
Rooting won't wipe your data. (Assuming you already have an unlocked bootloader)

No I don't. I locked the bootloader with bootlocker since I didn't install custom ROM's jet.
Bootloader is now automatically locked because root is gone.

First of all, do you have a custom recovery like TWRP or CMW? Or do you have the stock recovery?
So I have a rooted stock ROM nexus 4 with flashed baseband from the prev 4.2 version to allow me to turn on LTE connectivity. My concern is I got the ota update notification will I run into problems my phone being rooted and with a different baseband version or will it all configure itself with the update? Also is it still possible to flash baseband back to android 4.2 version to get LTE connectivity? I also have a custom recovery clockwork mod will this error out the update? Thanks for your help

The custom baseband or recovery could cause an OTA update to fail. Flashing either would be simple enough to allow the update to pass the patch assertions and complete.

Your phone will not update thru ota, but you have cwm, why dont you download a stock 4.3. Zip and flash tru cwm?
Those zip files are without modem So your LTE modem will stil be there
For ota you need stock ROM, stock kernel and matching radio of the ROM

Hello yea so when I read these posts I already have attempted the update and sure enough it failed I tried thought the ota update and I also tried downloaded the zip file with the update and attempted to flash it using cwm but it still gives me the error and won't update do you think I should flash the original baseband for 4.2.2? And will work?

It should be flashable via custom recovery but you must be on stock with no system apps removed or systemui modifications.

im on twrp 2.6.3.1 it fails when i flashed the update.
I was trying to update my stock rom to 4.4.3 but while I was updating I got an error. "/system/lib/soundfx/libaudiopreprocessing.so" has unexpected contents. I tried removing the file but that didn't help me at all. I think its from flashing DSP onto my device a while ago. I was hoping someone here could upload the stock files so that I can update my device.
Thanks
Just flash the system.img from stock 4.4.2 Rom as also the stock kernel.
