If your Samsung note 10.1 2014 edition is rooted
Check this app out https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ma.wanam.xposed
It's awesome, you can customise the notification drawer etc
Best thing is you can trick the tab into thinking it's not customised under security setting and setting it to m official, this mean you can receive updates normally through settings

Looks good but wouldn't receiving the updates undo root though?
Most likely but doub there will more than a couple more updates like kit kat next year. Worth it , doesn't take long to re root it

Can't get this module to work. Changed several settings but it has no effect (even after reboot). You got it working on your Note?
One thing I've noticed and that's a show stopper for me, is that if you've got a PIN unlock set, the unlock screen is forced to portrait mode. The way I've got my tablet charging on my desk this means that it's upside down. Note that this module works really well on my Note 3.

Definitely a great app. It's great to check to see if there's actually any updates for my device, since the coverage of this device's updates seem to be very hard to find and different for different areas of the world.
But way more importantly, the main feature to get this app is to add any app to multi-window, like the other Note devices could do with MultiWindow Manager (which doesn't work for 10.1 2014).

Does anyone has any idea regarding how the double tap to lock and wake works?

I highly doubt it works on rom or device other than the g2 stock rom at this point.

Or download "Lock Screen" from the play store and make a double tap gesture with nova launcher that opens the activity of that app. That's what I did and I have the double tap to lock working. The unlock works regardless of launcher.

I attempted to write an app to do this a long time ago. If its app-based like that, it needs to keep at least a partial wakelock on the phone to "listen" for the knock knock.
My guess is, on a multi-core CPU like the G2 has, they are turning off all but one core and putting that one core in the lowest MHz it will run, just to "listen" for the knock knock. Not app-based, but kernel based (like PGM). Clearly this doesnt use very much battery at all, as judged by the stellar battery life people have been reporting and that Ive seen on my own G2.

hi
I thought it worked off a motion sensor.. unlike the HTC One kernels and franciscofranco's mako kernel, which use the touchscreen. I can't remember where I read it but I think it uses motion sensors for this, gyro or something
I don';t think it uses the main CPU cores, it uses another ultra low power one to work. This is why these features drain so much on the One, because it doesn't have the extra things that the G2 and MotoX have
no idea what I am doing in this forum but I thought I'd answer it
Edit:
The software platform is Android 4.2.2, and atop that is LG’s skin. LG has added a bunch of new features to its skinned Android experience, although its visual themeing remains essentially unchanged. Double tap to turn on and off uses the built in accelerometer to wake the phone up or turn it off – you just double tap quickly on the device when it’s in an off state to turn it on, and double tap quickly on a blank part of the display or status bar to turn it off. I don’t have a problem getting my index finger to the raised power button, but this is obviously an accommodation just in case that’s difficult.

I lose about 1% battery every 3-4 hours when idle the whole time so while it may consume more battery the amount lost doesn't matter to me since idle drain is still hardly anything.
With the screen off and in the right light I can see hundreds of small grid like squares. I always assumed that they had something to do with the knock on feature.

I'm pretty sure it's NOT the accelerometer.
I tried it, and it even works with the slightest touch I can do. I hardly touched it at all. Can't believe, that there was any motion.
Furthermore it doesn't work when knocking with my fingernail or any other thing.
So I think, it really works by touch-recognition by the display.

you are right. it's definitely the touch screen waiting for the touches.
just try it on the edges on the screen - still works. next to the edges - doesn't work.
There's this post that I read somewhere from HardwareZone:
Not too sure if this is a solution, my imagination or simply I have gotten perfect overnight on using the KnockON feature but the insensitivity issue, that many and myself, have been facing is now gone - since last night, after I performed the following tests on my G2. (Yes, thses are merely TESTS, so wasn't expecting much..)
I got my set on the 26/9/13 and until last night this function got rather spot-on accurate and is not behaving in that erratic manner any more - at least for me. Here are the steps :
First Test
- Key in 3845#*802# on your phone dial.
- HW Device Test > Touch Test > Multi Touch Test
At this point, drag your finger across the screen from corner-to-corner and when your done. Press Volume-Up key once to exit.
Second Test
- From the same menu select "Touch Sensing Test 7*12"
- Tap in every box as many times as you want and on the red text as well at the bottom of the screen.
- Press Volume-Up Once to see result
- Press Volume-up again to Exit
- Finally, to exit the whole menu just use "return" soft key.
Once again, I like to highlight as strange as it may sound the above method has worked for me. And if not, then something definitely has. Do take note, Rockwell screen protector is still on and lastly, please do share your findings.

I tried it and strangely this seems to work. I can't tell if it's placebo but now I'm a hell lot more confident that my phone will wake up at the first pair of knocks.
Also, this is definitely true for me:
The knock on is 100% effective the first try when my phone is lying flat on my desk OR vertical on a car mount. In fact, these are the only 2 instances where I actually use KnockON. When I hold my phone, I naturally use the power button. Yes, I still do have probs with knockON when I use my thumb to wake it up while holding the phone.
3845#*802# did nothing for me. No menu.
There are apk for the knock on feature. But I'm sure there are libs and services involved

Could be the motion sensor. Try doing the double tap while holding the phone in your hand... It become completely unreliable. BUT, it's 100% reliable for me while the phone is laying on a flat surface.
Hi VZ Moto X folks,
How are you liking Kitkat on the phone? I installed the update on my VZ Moto X this noon and do like the update overall, but I have a few gripes as well.
Likes:
Transparent status bar, white looks good and different as well IMO
New camera allows to adjust focus, exposure (technically this not related to Kitkat I think)
Wallet is working again on VZ with NFC
Lockscreen music album art is very nice! Also works with apps like Pandora and Tunein Radio
New dialer, but no business search
Gripes:
Lost root from 4.2, chances to get it back on 4.4 seem slim. Really hate ads
Some issues with Chrome on 4.4 (lag etc), hopefully will be fixed by an update to Chrome. Chrome never lagged on the Moto X for me on 4.2.
4.4 broke support for battery apps like BetterBatteryStats and Wakelock detector.
Overall, I am really impressed with Motorola and Verizon for giving us this update so soon. But the Moto X was such an awesome phone to start with that I am not totally overawed by the update, I think. What do you guys think about the update?
I'm pretty upset about a really small thing: When I unlock from Active Notifications, there's a tiny delay in which the regular lockscreen appears, and then it unlocks to home/whatever app I had open. That wasn't there before, was it?

I'm happy with the speed of release, but I'm a little disappointed with the crippling of some features. The lack of local search in the dialer and Google Caller ID is very disappointing.
Oh, and this feels like nitpicking. But holy crap:
If you haven't tried yet, switch to ART runtime in the developer options. It speeds up the phone a lot.

Yes, that to me is a actually one of the most important updates because you feel it every time you unlock or every press (if enabled). Much smoother now.
I really don't like the new dialer app. The white/gray looks plain ugly and I don't get what's the obsession with light themes.
Otherwise, I like it all

Yes! The icons are terrible in the status bar. They also used the old Gps icon instead of the new location one.
I like having the option of using art. And will try it for today. But might have to get rid of it until more apps are compatible. Its not horrible but my banking app and PANDORA don't work. The lag is also TERRIBLE when unlocking from active notifications. And disabling slide unlock screen is NOT a fix because the lock screen is how I change my music when listening. Motorola should NOT have skipped the soak test.

i got those once too. I was in my house and now that i think of it i was connected to wifi. Is it possible that they overlooked such a huge bug?
I have the same issues yes.. I think this is a big manufacturer bug when you are connected on WIFI.. not cool samsung, hope you can fix it with a software update but I think its hardware related..
I read this too late. I took the device back today and I'm now on my second note. I have literally just got in the door and connected to my wifi. Haven't tested it on wifi yet but there was no lines in town in dimmed light.
Another reason I took it back was because I kept having unresponsive power and home key buttons.

Solution
I added a simple tasker rule to disable wifi and mobile data while the camera app is running. I also mutes the dial tone volume to get rid of shutter sounds...
This phone needs some patching until rooting becomes possible without loosing warranty.
I am so pissed at Samsung. Their hardware team created perfection only to be ruined by the monkeys who make their software

I couldn't agree with you more.. Very disappointing that I spend a lot of money on a device i believe to be probably the best on the market for it to be ruined by something as simple as taking pictures.
But. . Touch wood.. This one hasn't produced the same lines... It did however lock up one on the day i got it requiring battery pull.
@JAMIE1000UK what's your new phone's software version? Mine's still MJ1 and I'm guarding it like gold, because with this I still have some chance of rooting, when I gather up the courage...
I'm running mj7 too. I'm pretty much the same. . Holding back on root.
Having said that. When I took out the phone I got phones4u care with it.

Has anyone else had this happen?
It also replaced the system ui. I was able to open the app and uninstall it, but I get a notification about twice a day saying I have an app to update. Every time the notification is for Good Lock.
Is Samsung forcing it on its users now?
Also is anyone using it ? Does it still negatively effect the battery? Does it remove the theme sort from the phone as well?
Thanks!

Hmmm...
At first, I was angry it auto updated/Installed. It.changed everything I was used to. I HATED it!
Then I played around with it a bit, and I can now see some useful features in it. Mostly the lockscreen widgets and the Routines. I'm not a fan of the notification shortcuts though.
Im going to give it a few days to sink in. If I don't miss the old layouts, then I'll keep it.
Just REALLY wish theyd update the autocorrect though. I had to retype many words in this message!

I've used good lock mostly on my s6 and a bit while I used the s7edge as a loaner. I actually think I prefer the grace ux on the note to good lock these days but good lock has a lot of features and is always adding user requested features.

I just checked out the reviews for good lock this isnt an isolated incident. People are really mad, complain their phone now has "girly colors" and threatening to go back to iOS if they don't add the ability to change colors (which you've always been able to do)

Yeah I tried good lock and it was okay but I couldn't stand the hideous colors in notifications, and it just seemed way too busy. I only used it because I missed KitKat style lock screen music album art, but I found out Samsung music still has an acceptable form of it and I'm satisfied with it.

It's not easily noticeable though. There isnt a very noticeable "colors" section.
I think that's confusing people.

Took me awhile to figure out how to change colors, buried in the routines menu. And because I use a them already, was even more fun trying to get them to match. I did try it for a few days, but went back to the regular lock screens. Also didn't seem to work real well with AoD.

been using on my 2 phones for months; i prefer the stock Android UI look as well as the ability to "keep" some of my notifications so i can follow up later. the latest version allows you to further customize the colors (not just dragging the polygons from left to right or vice-versa). takes (me a) little effort to get it like i want it, but i can then backup and restore when necessary. --- i'm a keep it simple/basic user so the less stuff, the better (for me).
also, @nuclearrage, what issues were you having with AoD? GoodLock and AoD are working fine on my devices.
anyone using this for their note 9 ? i have it install in my Note 9 (exynos duo), everything is good until i click on button on pie control, it take nearly 2-5 second to load apps, is kind of irritating for me, anyone facing this issue ? or i miss out something ?

btw my is really slow right ?
i found one funny issue with my pie control, if i open pie control in any screen other than home screen, it work perfectly but in home screen it take few second to load, any one have idea what it cause ?
I am actually taking back my recommendation on this app...
more than once I have had it kind of "take over" my screen.
What I mean is, any touch on my screen is attempting to touch something in PIE control (and not actually graphically showing PIE control, btw).
you effectively can't do anything at that point.
Its been a few days since I stopped using it, but I really did pretty exhaustively try to figure out how to stop this.
I really liked this app's "swipe" method instead of pulling the PIE out and having to like hold on a button for a quick sec, this app lets you do it in a smooth swiping motion.
Anyways, ive given up and gone back to onscreen navigation keys.
Every method I have tried (including XDA's navigation) has had some small hangups that eventually have problems working.
And no I haven't reported errors and such in respective threads, I just give up because my "lots of effort into having a hacky phone" days are behind me
