hey there'
my back glass is broken but it doesn't bother me
but the battery is malfunctioning and so i've thought if i change the battery i might as well change the back glass as well.
but the problem is ... money ofc...
i wonder 2 things:
1. if it's possible to change the battery and return the broken glass back into place. or it will shatter when i remove it.
2. if it's even worthy to replace these 2 items , thinking that maybe a new device is more worthy? anyway i have already switched the front screen - got broken - ofc i wouldn't change it if i knew these extra 2 parts would malfunction as well.
last thing is , if i decide to switch these 2 parts .
where would i buy them?
i found this 2 options:
1. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/100-...Case-Housing-repair-Part-Full/1481971056.html
2. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-LG-...538?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3a81771e2a
thanks for your help

Wow. That is expensive!
Here are some other (MUCH) cheaper options I found for the back cover.

Hi,
I'm new to this forum so i'd like to say hello to everybody first
I have a g1 with the screen cracked. When I say the screen is cracked I mean that upper glass area; The lcd does not seem to be cracked in any way so there is no bleeding at all. Touch still works very well even in the cracked area.
I seem to have come across only 1 ebay auction that was selling a digitizer and everywere is absurdly expensive to buy. Any ideas where i can find one ? At 189$ i'm half way to buying a new phone tbh.
Also I saw in this forum that some people had the same problem and people told them that they would need to replace both lcd AND digitizer, however i clearly saw in the htc dream service manual that they are two separate parts with separate part numbers. Is there some particular reason for this ?
Just to clarify, can any tell me the order in which components are placed in the htc g1 ? Im assuming they are as follows:
Touch Screen Digitizer
LCD Screen
cover and hinge
in that order..Am I right in my assumption ?
Thanks,
Mewt
Bump. I would like to know as well.
Check it out:
This listing just got put up on eBay today. This guy has 50 digitizers for sale:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=230336383436
If you are sure the LCD is intact, you should just buy the Digitizer. The LCD can easily be seen by opening up the phone.
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-T-MOBILE-GO...5|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50
I can confirm you can replace the digitizer WITHOUT replacing the lcd.
I just did it. A car ran over my G1 a while ago and I've been lurking on ebay ever since waiting for digitizers to be listed. With a new digitizer, a Torx screwdriver and about an hour I have just replaced the broken one and the new one works perfectly.
Of course that also means I now have a spare G1 since I bought another one in case I couldn't get a replacement.
I will be doing the same shortly.
Actually this is the best price I have found on a digitizer
http://www.perfectesell.com/gog1glscdico.html
Any tips on replacing the part? Does the phone have to come completely apart?
I can't buy from that buyer as he doesn't ship to Malta but thanks, now I know what I need to look for and will be doing so. Hope I can get my g1 working well again...I just hate trying to read messages with cracks in them
Thanks all for your replies
Its quite fiddly but as long as you have the manual you should be okay.
There's a few things tho. Page 23 doesn't really show you how to disconnect the camera very well. On the underside of the main board there is a connector like the one for the screen. It is released by flipping the paddle lever think 90 degrees down. Otherwise the camera connector gets pulled out when you remove the mainboard.
It should go without saying you don't need to disassemble the bottom "chin" part when you remove it. Oh and page 24 has an error, those aren't the 2 screws you need to remove, its 2 long ones, one is in the top right of that picture on page 24 the other is to the right of the one circled.

hey would you say the average person would be able to change the digitizer or do you have to be a handy man.. taking anybodys replys ONLY if you''ve done it
Well I guess I am the average person but then I've taken many a pc and laptop apart and put it back together again so maybe not...
There's nothing that requires great skill in it. As long as you're gentle, patient and careful (taking apart a G1 is like making love to a beautiful woman...). Keep track of what screws came from where and don't try and force anything.
Remember you need some torx head screwdrivers. but you can get these on ebay for very little.
I have to admit I feel a bit smug when I see forum posts from people who advise you sent it back to T-Mo and pay a $100+ excess for them to do it. As if!
Ah, my screen is just gently scratched, but it's annoying sometimes. I might look at into this if it gets any worse.
Just looking at the back of the screen when the G1 is open, it looks like I'd have to take the whole phone apart...are there guides I can look at?
Here is some sites that helped me out.
This is an easy to ready explanation to what you are looking at.

This is where I found the service manual a while back
http://www.intomobile.com/2008/12/18/dissect-your-t-mobile-g1-with-the-htc-dream-service-manual.html
This was where you can find the digitizer. (I dunno which one it is... but I think its the clearpad) only thing I could not find a match on part numbers anywhere
http://www.synaptics.com/solutions/products
And this is the address and Houston local number for HTC America. (i didnt check the number so i'm 72.34763% sure its right(just do a little social engineering to get to where you need to be.) )

same boat here. cracked digitizer. seems like the g1 is the only phone, for which you can't buy one.

hey i have a question i replace my digitizer but now the bottom part of the touch screen... closest to the menu button doesnt work. what do you think can be wrong
Pull it apart again using the service guide section 2.2.3 and make sure all connections have complete contact. If something is not sitting right the circuit may not be ringing out correctly. Once you have gone through all the steps 2.3.2(lcm assembly) and everything looks connected properly, assemble, reboot and test. If it is not fixed you may have a bad digitizer I'm hoping for the fact that most of your screen is working its just a connection problem.

When you reassembled what did you do about the tape and gaskets? Were you able to buy new or did you use something else? Thanks!

i'm willing to try replacing it myself as well and i was wondering how much your purchased your new digitizer for. would the one suggested earlier at this link: http://www.perfectesell.com/gog1glscdico.html be good? it seems a lot cheaper than other ones and i dont want to buy a faulty and cheap one that may not work as well or break. any other tips would be GREATLY appreciated. TIA!
Here's the correct page on the Perfectesell site:
http://www.perfectesell.com/htcgog1glscd.html
Same price ($65) as the ebay auction that ended.
I dunno what that $12.95 thing was... price doesn't seem right for glass, touch sensing wizardry

thanx i took it apart again and that fixed it... i have 2 more problems 1 major 1 not. i dont know but i normally got 3g service in my house and now i dont what could b the problem.
second is that the screen doesnt swivel smoothy as before
I dropped my phone and ran over with car wheel. .. Here's how it seems now
Guarantee does not apply under these conditions .. Can it be replaced ? .. In general is there a spare part for this in the SE production line for replacement parts...
Sorry for my bad English (google translate )
does the phone still work? does it turn on?
I' m sorry to hear that ! and I think it can be repaired at the SE's factory
Good luck to you !
it can be replaced, go to ebay.com and check for Xperia X10 "Digitizer"
also you can replace the housing of the entire phone and also the buttons.
all the pieces are there, you just need the knowledge to put it all and in some cases a good glue
Ahh i just did that to my phone as well. The touch still works ect just need the new cover. I looked around and its gonna be about $100 at the most to fix it
im willing to buy the broken phones if it still works and they are x10i's send me a pm if you want to sell it.
Yes..phone works whithout any problems.. Display isn't broken..
not good still under warranty
try to make a story what fits the conditions of you guarantee
I tried it once with my W580i when I completely broke its display and guess what... they made it for me
good luck
the X10 screen seems very durable, mine is little broken also, and thanks to the thin cover that is has on top, you can't feel the broken screen, just see it.
Also the touch screen is working fully functionally like nothing has happened
The only thing i like it about SE is the high Quality Built mobiles ... my friend bought an i phone 3GS when it was new and after a week he dropped it and the screen broke into pieces and was unusable .. i dropped my x10 on asphalt in the street many times and i see only little scratches ... anyway i'm sorry for your x10 and better to check with warranty

I too had my front screen & digitizer completely shattered when a bus ran over it !!
Got it fixed at a SE Service center but it took two months for them to procure the parts ( LCD & Digitizer) & fix it at the cost of ~ 213 $

Mmm when i rang up optus they just went on and on about charges. 1st charge is sending it away 2nd charge is like $50 for sony to look at it then 3rd charge is how ever much it costs fix and it could take up to 6 weeks. wasnt too pleased. So i guess my option now is ebay to get a new screen.
Ok this one goes out to all you cool smart guys out there. I currently have two mt4g's. One is working perfectly fine with the "bad screen", as they call it, and the other is bricked, or no it has a failed pu is what someone told me, but it has the "good screen".
Anyway while just minding my own business on the internet one day I came across a video which shows you how to replace a lcd screen in a mytouch 4G! I was hooked. I could do this I said, it looked so easy! Sure you need some patience, which I got btw. So I was determined to do this, even ordered the tools from repairsuniverse. So about the fourth time watching the tutorial I began to wonder if it would be possible to just swap motherboards instead of disassembling all the way to the screen. Mostly because I still need a heat gun so i could remove the digitized then lcd screen.
So i guess my question is will swapping motherboards solve the pu problem in the mytouch with the good screen? And while I got you here has anyone ever replaced there lcd screen?? Is it worth it??
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Yes, if you put the good motherboard in the case with good LCD, you'll get one good phone.
Thanks for the response! This will make the job so much easier
repair options
sorry to piggyback you post but i had a similar question....
a friend of mine is giving me their broken mytouch 4g. it was working perfect but then she dropped it on her kitchen tile (bottom right corner hit i'm told) and now it will not turn on at all.....no cracks or anything, just a scratch in the corner. she says she tried a new battery and tried plugging into AC but no lights, nothing.
i've taken apart enough phones so once I get it i'm not afraid to do some swapping of parts.
my question is, those of you who have worked on this model, any indication where you think would be the problem? i'm hoping the lcd/digitizer is fine since its not cracked but we'll see....and i figured maybe i would just need to do a motherboard swap worst case? is there any other components you think could be shot after the drop? from what i've been able to find its just the 1 main mother board , correct? (meaning there is not 2 parts)
thought MAYBE i'll get lucky after opening it up, and verifying all the cables that possible some cables got jarred loose and thats why it wont respond but not holding my breathe on that.
thanks for the help!
Hi,
i got this phone as a gift, my father bought it !
It started without showing settings but didn't have anything on it, my father told me he checked it at the shop to make sure it works, The s-pen is already worn out, it has worn out in the angle that normal ppl write while having the s-pen button on thumb! also s-pen button is a bit hard to press!
But this phones looks new without even the slightest scratch, display is clean and rear cover is also clean,
i also saw tiny bit of grey power stuff on my s-pen !
Anyway, the main thing that made me worry is the worn out tip!
Also i have some other questions:
how long does the s-pen last? what about the tips? does grey ones last less? i don't use screen protectors but what if i use one?
My s-pen came worn out of the box ! but it doesn't feel sticky or anything ! it acts almost the same as the replacement ones ! should i replace it or note? (im worried it might scratch my screen)
Is there anyway to Only Root without voiding warranty? i'm used to nexus and i'm not sure how many days i can make it without root
It usually comes with a pack of replacement tips and a tool for changing the tip.

yeah i changed it ! but how long is this going to last? and i was worried when i saw that mine came already worn off!
download from Playstore, phone info app, its free, this app gives you interesting information about your device, like, is it new or refurbished, fake, clone, date of manufacture, country of origin, how many times the a pen has been detached, how many times has been charged, etc, very useful app
Long story short launched phone at 45 off my ATV.. I'm 3 screens later.
Screens online seems to have no adhesive at all...
I tried one attached to a frame and it was clearly a poopy sealed fix job...
So I bought a used 8 pro.. said it was a USA model..
Came as a in2020 I have a 2025.. his didn't connect to Verizon so I decided to pull the back glass and swap mobos. All was well until I realized that the finger print scanner wasn't working...
Spent the last 2 days trying to get it to work. Which I did, by booting my phone up with mine on my frame attached then plugging the new one in so I know it worked ..
Today screen 2 that was without adhesive and was slightly floating took a #2 and left me some nice lines....
So I was forced to use the in2020 housing (at least it was a proper seal on the screen)
On a whim before I decided to wipe my phone and try hoping a completely reset with MSM was going to fix it I decided to watch a fix the fingerprint issue...
So if you ever get to the point I'm at and you need to use a different frame with fingerprint not working you can pull the presist.img and copy the same files as the guide and I'm now back working!
Why can't I find a good replacement with quality adhesive ? Any one got any leads on what would be good to reseal the back glass now that I'm finally done inside her?
Just buy OEM Screen. Back cover needs a tape/sticker meant to attach the back cover. FP sensor is NEVER gonna work anymore so forget it. Oneplus would have fixed it for you but since you fiddled with it im sure they wont take it in. Or they charge for FP calibration only
Hello!
I don't know where to order OEM screen + FP reader, only found Aliexpress or Ebay product (says it's OEM, have no proof of course... and for +300$, not sure it's worth the try...)
Do you know where to look?

I think if you're going to be spending money over and over with no idea if it's going to work or not, then I'd just contact OnePlus and get them to do it.
I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives, but this way you'll get an official screen and will know the jobs a good one.
