[Q] Unite? Divide? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Don't know why I missed this but looking at this pinned mod-note http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2381647 about subforums I need to ask again, since I didn't get any reply the last time (persistance )
Why all the different mail S4-forums? Verizon S4, A&T, T-Mobile S4. And then we have this "International". Are not all S4?
Do they not have so many things in common that can can't call the all S4? It's not once that you find a link here pointing to some other "main S4" where a script or a program is located.
If we should consolidate we should consolidate forums. Samsung Galaxy S4. That is the phone.
If there is specials made by Verizon? Subforum.
International verion - > I9505 (subforum)
Now I9506 --> Subforum
Then we have ONE Gereral, ONE Q&A and the rest are for the quirks that goes under the brand. That way we wouldn't have to see the same question in 5 forums. Nor hunt for someone that makes a cool thing that he/she will post in THEIR forum.
So. Keep it under one roof. Why don't we do that?
What is so special about the American brandings? Can't someone please explain that? A simlock can't warrant a whole top-level forum can it?

Well when you run xda you can organize it the way you want. Until that day, it will be run the way the people who do run it want to. Complaining about how its run is basically just rude.
If you think the different variants are all the same, go ahead and flash a ROM made for a different model without adding a model specific kernel or making other modifications. Let us know how that works for you. (Spoiler alert, it won't boot) They are different enough that it matters. The moderators understand this and organized the forums accordingly.
With them all grouped together every other thread would be someone with a soft bricked device begging for help.

Sheesh. That you don't understand why we have specific forums for specific devices speaks volumes
'Why don't we do that ?' Because it's a dumb idea.
The way things are works as well as it possibly can, and as Skipjacks mentioned, removes the possibility of soft bricked (or worse) devices which could easily happen if every device was thrown into one forum & people assume which device a particular poster has.
For example, poster has some obscure I95x variant, person who answers thread assumes they have an I9505, tells them to go get I9505 firmware from Samfirmware & flash it = borked phone.

Requesting New "Accessories" Section

I agree. I've tons of questions and opinions about the availabilty of (or lack of) accessories for this phone.
How do we go about requesting a new "T-Mobile USA HD2 Accessories" child added to the "T-Mobile USA HTC HD2" parent thread?
I realize there may be a section for this over at the Leo side, but this is where I come for my 1024, since there are too many ways to go wrong back over at the Euro side...
I'll second that motion, because there are some clear differences in the two models which makes buying proper accessories difficult. It'd help a lot to have a T-MobileUS specific section.
Two things need to be made clear to new users:
"Don't flash a ...51... series Radio to your TMOUS HD2, or it'll be bricked!"
"Don't buy a European HD2 case for your TMOUS HD2, because it won't fit!"

I'm dying to find a good USB cradle.

Bump
I'm bumping this post because:
It got buried over the weekend to page 2.
I'm hoping the mods missed it due to the OP and plus-ones being written over the weekend.
I like to see my threads on the first page
Here's hoping...
even though this would be nice, I think we should be grateful to have a different section for ROM and General info. I really don't see the need for the different ROM section because I don't really look in the TMOUS section for ROM's personally because I know what to look for to make sure the ROM will work on my device, I know that this maybe for all the noobs around here (not calling you a noob) or people who need it in one space and don't want to search. I just kinda think that it is just making the site better then needed and I personal could deal without a driffrent section just for TMUS HD2's. I don't remember ever seeing different sections for GSM and CDMA version of different devices. I don't personally see this happing. Everyone is entitled to there own opinions though.

Hence the "Request" and not the "Demand" Seriously though, I would be grateful if it were just a single root and 2,000 pages. This site is tremendous and I have been blown away from Day One with the assistance from other users that is given away freely here every day.
That being said, I don't think I'm being ungrateful in asking for one more section. If that is the way it seemed, please accept my humble apologies.

Unfortunately, I did not originally know there was a difference. I had even picked out a (incompatible) ROM before looking for a Hard SPL. It was then that I stumbled upon the difference between the 512 and the 1024. It was also where I stumbled upon the "T-Mobile USA HTC HD2" root. Had it not been for the mistakes of others, who unfortunately bricked their phones learning the difference, I would have made the same rookie mistake.
As far as I can tell, this is the first time that a device difference this big has been released by HTC under the same general name (HD2, not Leo). This is the true source of the confusion, at least it was for me.

I haven't seen different sections for GSM and CDMA either, but then we are dealing with an entirely fresh set of eyes with this phone. If you read my "What Did You Go Through For The HD2?" thread, you'll see that a good portion of the posters there are professing to have switched from other Operating Systems from iPhone to Android to Blackberry.
That being said, I don't think that too many of the so-called "n00bs" are really that, just misinformed and new to HTC or even Windows Mobile. I am sure that it takes a certain mindset and tempermant to take your brand-new, roughly-obtained $500 gadget and attempt a maneuver that could possibly turn it into a big fat paper-weight. Thus, we are seeing a lot of new faces, but not necessarily naive ones.
---EDIT---
My PC keyboard died so I had to finish this with my phone
With the influx of new users, xda-developers will benefit by listening to the new users and adapting to increase the usability and manageability of the website.
The US version of this phone is slightly larger than the Euro version, making many of the existing accessories simply do not fit this device. This necessitates a definitive section that is clearly deliniated from the existing sections.
you certainly have the right too disagree and the mods have the right to ignore the request, but I also feel that it doesn't hurt to ask
Last bump.
If this doesn't get action, I'll drop it and start spamming the General board...

New forums or add sections? HELP!

Obviously a lot of you know that I run another forum, but the point of my post is not to try to recruit people over there, but to ask the mods here or the people posting with important information like firmwares, backups, dumps and mods, to help.
I have been noticing a lot of information posted on the galaxy tablet thread that is spread out all over the place and is very unorganized. We need to make sure when we post something that we make sure it says VZW, TMO, SPRINT, AT&T or whatever!
I have separated these section on my forums to limit the possibility of people screwing their tablets up with the wrong files. Feel free to throw a copy of the important post you made here on my forums if you want to keep it documented in a section thats it was made for. Other than that I am just asking to specify it accordingly here. Maybe we can do something like (VZW) in the front of the title or something.
XDA does a great job on keeping the forums neat, but with something this broad we need to separated it.
... Thoughts???
PM me the site you mention.
I agree that some prefix tags would be good. With vbulletin its easy enough to create selectable prefixes from a drop down menu also, so not too much hassle to set-up either.

UK/US markup might be an idea too.
the majority of us here at xda are talking about the eu version - GT-P1000
your forum has only the us tabs in subforums... this will confuse europeans even more

Good point . Personally I'd be happy to see a sub-section for all the posts about Verison/AT&T/sprint and how to use the device as a phone etc. I'm sure it must be confusing for those with devices that are unlocked and have phone capability to wander through so many threads about things that are of no concern to them.
organization should be as follows:
GSM galaxy tab forum(atnt,tmo)
CDMA galaxy tab forum(sprint,verizon)
in each thread header your carrier should be listed by 3 letters eg.(att, spr, ver, tmo) then topic eg.( [theme],[rom],etc...)
this would keep things organized. if dev is to get anywhere on this device, organization is key...also many are noobs that flash roms for the wrong device; i feel that if its listed like this its your own fault if you cant read...As is i can see pps flashing roms for wrong device...wont happen to me but than again, im not your everyday android user..
i read post of someone noting that most users here have/are referring to euro version of tab. that is just selfish and inconsiderate...logic dictates that if the device was released 1st in europe than more in europe would have one...well it was released in U.S fairly recently and already there are many here posting using U.S models. this is xdA dev which DOES NOT specify EUROPEAN ONLY SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB DEVELOPMENT..many of us are AMERICAN. please be considersate and consider adding structure to your forum posts so we can get this tab to the top of the food chain where it deserves to rest as the undisputed champ @ this point in time....oranization people!!!
It should actually be at least two forum categories:
Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 which would cover most of the world and most of the devices sold (or flashed to P1000 standards).
Crippled North American Tabs. It can then have a "Even More Crippled North American Tabs" subforum for CDMA versions.
As mentioned above, many "CNAT" owners would migrate up to the P1000 forum after they've flashed to that standard, leaving the "EMCNAT" owners a nice quiet place to hang out, where they can never answer the question of "Can you hear me now?".
Note that I'm a CNAT owner.

OK, we seriously need separate sections...

For the European version, ATT, and VZW versions of this Galaxy Tablet because i don't know what the heck I'm looking at in the Development section anymore. Everything is SO clustered. I have a VZW Tab and trying to find anything in that DEV section is almost impossible. Anyone else agree???
Agreed.

Not the easiest forum to follow for specific tabs/regions.
I agree with this also.
i agree also... there isnt to much development goin on for the vzw tab.. i own a vzw tab my self. but we should have separate sections... hopefully they make it happen both development and a devoted vzw tab section.
You think you have got it hard, I'm confused as hell since I have an Asian Tab. Fffffuuuu. I'm guessing it's similar/identical to the Euro one but I'm not sure, so I haven't really tried flashing anything so far.
I agree as well, maybe with subsections for questions, ROMS, etc as well broken out of those.
Agreed, it's far too messy.
/make it happen.
Very disorderly. And for a nooblit like me almost painful.

maybe in the future i can see a point in sub-sections
but from what ive read (and i aint done any mods to my device yet)
all the roms ect.. are clearly marked which device there for
if you cant find anything for your device thats because its not available 'yet'
the dev section is picking up great so hopefully it wont be long for things to be stable enough for a n00b like me to use, and for different device versions to become available
Sometimes i get confused too but if i got it, most things are common for the tabs and only basebands / modem firmware differs?
Agreed

A little organization goes a long way. Start topics with "VZW CDMA" or "UK GSM" or something similar and 90% of the confusion would go away. Search might work, too. And people can start doing that TOMORROW, not when some organization is imposed.

Please separate the forums CDMA,GSM.

I believe this forum right not can confuse the new people and make the others pissed off. The tags are all random right now. Why wasn't it asked to the community if this is a good idea? Instead it was "I". Come on now.

I agree The Dev forums are now more difficult to read. I'm not new to the community(not that you can tell that by my posts), but even I am getting a bit confused reading through the posts.
Dude, you should only be posting dev projects in here not your general discussions.
The forums were previously split and have now been rejoined as it did more harm then good. I just cant see how its "confusing" to anybody with common sense.
If you have a CDMA device you only need the CDMA roms, and if you have a GSM device then you want the GSM roms, simple.
Reporting post as its in wrong place.
PS. rating your own thread 5 starts is sad.

this guy cracks me up....hes all like, im telling mom. why so damn anal? the topic had nothing to do with dev, you didnt even need to waste your time posting trying to correct someone.
im with the op, it WAS easier to navigate gsm/cdma split up. the ONLY reason it got brought back was because of this honeycomb crap...which looky there, it's primary devs are all cdma anyways. people complained after a cdma link ended up in a gsm thread...then they cry, oh WHYYYYY do i have to click another button?!? its the end of the world and my tablet wont survive unless its all cluttered in one place.
i agree with a couple posts saying the OP should just put the info in [brackets] and call it a day.
i still think they should be split up again.
as for reporting this thread, its a legit req to the devs, def not in the wrong section...there are other ways of telling them what you think but this way everyone can put in their 2 cents (myself included)
Yup, there should be 2. With most of the dev threads being non-indicative its much harder to find anything, let alone whether or not the thread is for your device or not. Recombining the 2 SGT type threads was a bad idea. We're all gonna get carpal tunnel anyways, what's one more click?

Nothing to do with been anal, Its to do with wanting the forum to be organized and posting crap in wrong places hinders that.
Back on topic, Splitting of the forums just isnt needed, If you want CDMA topics do a title search for CDMA using search option or just browse section as normal, its not hard to differentiate the topics.
A good vB forum mod to install to make it easier for you would be the prefix mod that enables posters to choose set prefix's, these are color coded so would be immediate more distinguishable.
If they were to re-split the forums it would be good to have some sort of third forum as a middle ground, maybe something like..
Galaxy Tab GSM Android Development
Galaxy Tab CDMA Android Development
Galaxy Tab MISC Android Development
That way we could have a non specific section for adding stuff that relates to both device types.
I believe most of the devs ACTUALLY make it clear which device their ROMs and kernels are for. People just don't read properly.
For me, it's more of actually being of help to the guys who don't read properly and complain about broken tabs rather than being able to be more organized. After making mistakes so many times they'll finally learn to do proper reading.

I'm smart enough to look at the title, and I liked it the way it was before.
At 3am, tired, doped up on my meds, feeling frisky to flash a new rom, brain fried, it was easier to go to the CDMA section, now I have to be even more careful. Not that it matters if I flash a GSM on my CDMA as I can always restore, but that's not the point.
Yes there are way to many kiddies that wont read for a week before they flash a kernel or rom and get stuck on a normal samsung boot loop, and it is normal for someone like me to ask if putting a gsm on a cdma tab will completely break it, or if it would work, and there are the lurkers who just want to install stuff.
So separating was a better idea, I could have gone to the forum for the device I wanted to read about, knowing i was in gsm or cdma, now I have to decipher what is what, or the more popular GSM threads might push an important cdma thread to page 2, where it would have been at the top for a week, and don't get me started on the HC ports for both GSM and CDMA, that alone could really screw someone who doesn't have 3 tablets and can afford to be without a daily use tab for an entire weekend.
A good mod/admin looks beyond what they feel the more established crowd might like, and makes adjustments for the new people that could provide help for projects like the HC port once they have been able to read in an organized forum. Also what exact proof is there that the former setup did more damage? what, and extra click or 2 to go back and forth between cdma and GSM? ****, put a direct link in your FF BM tab,
Like this............
It was split into two, and then people started complaining to svetius so it was put back. We're never gonna make everyone happy here, but we're trying.
My gripe about the split was that there was no middle ground. For example there was no section to post stuff that wasnt device specific.
IMO it should either be left as it is now, not split or split and a third section added for misc or "non device specific".

Seperate Dev section for the US GS3?

Just wonder what you guys think....Do you think it's necessary to have a forum dedicated to the US version of this phone since the roms for the international version won't be compatible with it?
I think it would help since there won't be any confusion as to what version a particular rom/kernel/mod is for...I think it would also help as far as troubleshooting is concerned too.
What do you think?
Sounds practical to me

So many newbs will be flashing quad core ROM's on their dual core phones, and vice versa.
It's going to be a real mess for awhile. And likely a lot of total bricked phones as a result.
This will happen, perhaps we could wait untill US versions are ACTUALLY available?
It will be broken down into VZW, Sprint , ATT and TMO..maybe under one thread, maybe completely seperate....
While sharing the same build, they will have different model #'s...as has been the case with just about EVERY phone ever released...
Chill out guys..GNEX started on Verizon...now they have a GSM/Verizon/Sprint sub thread...
Did you really think a dev would post a US rom into a I-9300 thread without clearly stating it's for said device?
They need to separate all of the variations......Korea, Japan, etc. This forum is already becoming cluttered
Sent from my GT-I9300
Closed as this has been answered before, at the very least the USA S4 versions will get their own dev sections, but the exact layout is still under discussion.
