im kinda new to the whole rooting/rom thing, i rooted my s4 successfully, but when i went to install the rom i thought it was on my usb retardedly, so i wiped my phone, hooked up the usb, and it wasnt there. it said my phone was unrooted and asked me if i wanted to instal s2 to root it i hit yes, and now the phone wont boot up past samsung galaxy s4 home screen. i was using TWRP but it wont even open ... help me please im freakin out, prolly broke my phone i just bought it a week ago.
edit: okay so after trying like 15x twrp finally opened up. i put the backup i made onto my pc. do i just load it onto my usb, hook it up and go twrp > restore > usb-otg and restore it?
edit2: i go to restore but it shows nothing in my usb.
im freaking out again help please >.< do i need a file to install/where can i get it to get back to stock?
Download Odin and a rom in .tar format. Hold the volume down and power button to go into download mode. Then connect to usb and see the com port pop up, then select the pda tab and browse to the tar file. Then flash that. It will install stock firmware and recovery or rooted firmware and custom recovery based on what tar file you download.
If that sounds like too much to take in, and I suck at writing this kind of stuff up, do a YouTube search for sprint s4 unbrick/unroot and it should show all the steps.

Yea you should return to Stock Firmware. It should solve your issue.
Always, read and double check, even triple check before you mess with your phone. You should be alright if you follow previous post instructions.

Firstly b calm.
Panicking wont help.jst do as the op said. Flashing ur way thru odin.
Before that do double check the version dat it support ur device.pay attention to this.n do calmly.
N the more u try more r d chances of getting thru the prob.
Do search for s4 backup n restore it.
Or repair via kies.
Keep posted
Good luck.

Once on mf9/mk2 you can't flash back/downgrade due to knox bootloader from my understanding. Search forums to be sure.

If I sound like a jerk then sorry ahead of time. This is not just to you but anyone toying with checking this out. There are many people asking questions that clearly show a lack of understanding regarding this update and what you might end up with if it goes bad. If you are currently on a custom Rom, it is beyond my imagination why you would want to go to a stock Rom that you might not be able to get back from. This forum is already piling up a few users that tried going back to mk2 and are now probably stuck with a coaster till someone releases a full release Odin install. Several very solid devs are quickly putting together something. I would be willing to bet within a week we have a couple projects to choose from.

Through Odin just flash the full mk2 update. Make sure you wipe data or things will be broken, I had to do it twice before everything worked right. This will also give you sock recovery. From that you can just re root the same way you did the first time and then reload a nandroid back up if you have one from your previous rooted room.
Hope this helps you

I have the same problem with NAE build number, but MK2 baseband and software (also MDF security software version if that matters). Did you ever figure out how to solve this? If so how?
For those with mixed nae and mk2. First flash the nae modem thru odin then flash a nae rom. As for now those people who decided not to go full stock to take nae and are stuck this is the only work around for this problem. Until we get a nae tar yall will be stuck for it for another week or so.

What's the problem with Kies? If it's not connecting put the phone in mtp mode instead of installer in the pull down menu on the phone when you connect it to the computer.

If you just wanna OTA, why don't you just directly flash latest stock firmware and save yourself a trouble?
If you are on old bootloader, flash corresponding firmware, 4.2 I guess, and then OTA, update to 4.3 or 4.4 which contains new bootloader.
So why don't you just directly flash it instead of go back to stock and OTA it?

About bootloader, we currently have 2 type, old and new ones, old is KNOX free and new ones are KNOX'ed , which means avoid your warranty.
But since you are on 4.3 already so it concerns you no more, because either way (I think ) you will trigger the KNOX and avoid your warranty
Yes, flash stock 4.4 via Odin will reset recovery to Samsung stock recovery and lose root access (I am not sure about this, but last 3 times I flashed stock firmware via Odin, the son of a ***** just formatted my internal sdcard!!! )
And yes, you shall have OTA in the future (I don't know if root affects it or not ) but anyway, you can this all over again once there is new version comes out.
But if you just wanna "easy" upgrade, I can tell you that odin latest or old firmware is same process...
If u root ur phone u will receive and download OTA Updates. But the unique way for install them are through STOCK Recovery :highfive:

No, what I meant is that, either you go back to old version of stock and then OTA, or directly flash latest firmware stock, they are all SAME process.
So you "old stock -> OTA" is kinda like pointless strategy.
If you just wanna latest firmware, download latest firmware, and then odin flash in, done, and you can keep future OTA as long as you don't touch anything. and even you do, you can repeatedly odin flash again, the future latest firmware...
Yeah, sorry for my bad English which makes my comment quite mouthful, hope you can understand me...

I have one last question if I may..
If the firmware is not branded by the network does this mean you can get the ota quicker as the network does not have to test and put their crap on it..
In other words would the ota be connecting directly to Samsung servers
Thanks
Last one promise

Bt I recommend Unbranded, as it saves you space
and hassle of deleting the bloatware apps
