Motorola delays Moto X Cyber Monday deal after site crash

Good news!
So this gives me a bit to consider between:
1) Getting a Moto X DE on Wednesday
2) Ordering a Nexus 5
3) Sticking with my HTC One XL until July -> contract renewal time
Wondering if some Moto X owners can weigh in. The thing that is attracting me to this phone the most is the battery life. My HOX battery (I feel) is going bad. Many symptoms which point to this, listing them all would probably be too OT. Bottom line is that with no "misbehaving apps" or anything - I'm seeing maybe 2 hours of screen time before my phone dies, on a good day. So trying to figure out if I want to put up with this until July and see what's available then or jumping on this deal.
I see there isn't much development going on for this device compared to the Nexus 5. But honestly most of my flashing ROMs/kernels have been vain attempts to improve battery life on my previous and current phone. Is there a point to flashing custom ROMs to this phone? From what I've read the greater majority of people actually prefer the stock Motorola ROM with their custom apps over CM, AOSP, etc. Going back to the Nexus 5, which is suppose to always get the latest and greatest from Google, the Moto X is already on 4.4 as well, any thoughts as to if this trend will continue from Motorola?
I've also read of some issues with the camera - can anyone weigh in here on the camera quality? While I'm not one of those people who snap a million photos a day - I still like to have something reliable in my pocket to take a good photo when the situation arises.
I hope this isn't too rambling and terribly OT. I would appreciate any input.

Two cents: I'm fairly certain that the promotion on Wednesday is only for Motomaker devices, and not Dev Editions. Those sold out already, I believe.

They've stated on their twitter account that the dev editions have sold out and will not be available on the subsequent days of the deal. You could order a t-mobile variant which is the same as the developer edition with the exception of voiding the warranty when unlocking the boot loader.
I managed to get a developer edition in the second batch yesterday, but I'm still debating on canceling and trying for a customized t-mobile variant. I currently have an AT&T version that I'm going to sell, but the Moto X is easily the best android phone I've used. The combination of size, battery life and additional features is just hard to beat. My previous two phones where the HTC One and SIII and I would personally take the Moto over either of them and the S4.

Bummer. Thanks for the heads up re: DE. If I buy the Motomaker version - I can still root, but not unlock bootloader, is that correct? Honestly from what I've been reading - rooting will probably be sufficient.

If you buy the t-mobile version you can still unlock the boot loader, they just state that it will void the warranty. I don't find myself needing to do much to the Moto X, I just don't like being at the mercy of AT&T and their notoriously slow updates and bloatware which is why I'm switching. The t-mobile and gsm dev edition are the same device internally.

The sale yesterday was the biggest cluster eff I've ever seen for a phone. I had a dev edition in my cart multiple times yesterday and was never able to check out. All were sold out but today mysteriously some gsm phones in stock for normal price. No luck on them honoring the price. Total b.s.. I said I would never own a Moto phone after the defy abd cliq and was almost there...but I can honestly say after the bs yesterday with the site crashing at nearly the start Motorola needs to step up for the developers. I am at a loss as to why if the t mobile version is almost the same why they wouldn't sell a few more dev phones on Wed and Mon.

They may be the same but you're unable to load the dev image on the tmobile device. That and warranty are the deal breaker.

Verizon Note 4 thread

Since no one has started one I thought I might do so. Place all of your comments and concerns here.

My concern is..it'll be later than the other carriers since it hasn't even passed through the fcc yet. This entire launch is becoming as bad as the g3 launch

You have a link? I have seen Sprint and either Tmobile or at&t but not Verizon
*edit* never mind, I see it has passed through. Hopefully this means Verizon won't repeat what it did with the Note 3 and be the last to release it.

One of my pulse news channels named all 4 US major carriers don't have a link for proof but I also have nothing to gain by lying about it

Agree. What worries me is the lawsuit from (nvidia?) and the fact that it may need to be classified as a medical device slowing things down even more. Hopefully not, but we'll see.

that could be it though. take my g3 for example. they said bootloader should become unlockable. well here we are months later and only root yay i really need developer edition note 4 to have everything available at my fingertips

After the G3, I don't think I'm ever buying another phone with a locked bootloader. Just waiting on Samsung to announce a developer edition. That would be the best situation.

That is your opinion. I still have unlimited so I have to buy off contract anyways so no difference in money. And even if Verizon doesn't have much development I can run tmobile stuff and be fine. That's why the developer phones sell out though cause they aren't worth it lol

I have unlimited also. A lot of difference in price. Locked boot loader will drop in price or will be sold for less than what Verizon is asking for. Unlocked will be sold by Samsung for $800 dollars or more and will sell out because they have little stock not because its a hot item for Verizon.
I have Verizon, why would I buy a Verizon phone to use with T-Mobile? Why not buy a T-Mobile Note? T-Mobile always gets unlocked and you save money.

Price was $699 for developer edition last year. $750 to my door. And they choose to make only a few it's a simple software unlock just the general public doesn't have access to it.
And I have Verizon too but a Verizon developer edition is basically a tmobile device with Verizon radios. You can run tmobile recovery/roms/kernels etc

$750 is a lot of money for an unlocked boot loader to get one or two ROMs that are full of bugs. Also, You lose s-pen features (i dont really use the spen on my note 3) and other tw features like fingerprint, heartbeat monitor, and other stuff that is never ported correctly.
Verizon boot loader locked device can also be used with T-Mobile. Pop in your Sim and you are ready to go.
So what ROM are you running on your note 3 now?

$750 is a lot of money but I'm going to spend that anyways on my device for next 8+ months. Not going to buy used not my cup of tea for that expensive of a phone. Who said you lose those features? You can keep the spen etc they are enhanced not lost.
And I sold my note 3 awhile back to save some money for note 4
But when I did I usually ran hyper with imos kernel. But I also liked to experiment with pacman and other aosp builds

The spen worked with aosp? I didn't know that. That's good news. Used is my cup of tea just not beat up.

Verizon Nexus 6 Bootloader

What are everyone's expectations on the bootloader situation for the Nexus 6? Is the fact that this is a NEXUS giving anyone hope it will be easy to unlock or will Verizon screw us once more?

I don't think Google would have allowed the Nexus 6 to be on Verizon unless there was an agreement in place that this phone would be handled by google. Then again, Verizon never ceases to disappoint me so ya never know.

I was wondering the exact thing. Before I get too excited... Hopefully this phone doesn't end up being the first nexus that's locked down, and that's why Verizon agreed to it.

From what I can tell there are only two models of the N6, a US version and a Worldwide version. So there's no room for Verizon to lock down the device or delay OTAs for Verizon customers specifically.

My VZW GNex didn't have a locked bootloader, so I don't see why they would be allowed to lock this one down. Locking a Nexus bootloader is sacrilege.

From what I have read on the press release on the N6 while it will be compatible for all carriers and CAN be sold at all carriers once they comply to agreements with Google.
That means that either they have to comply with all that Google is asking for with this device, or they cannot sell it in their carriers. Verizon and AT&T might have to ignore their liberties when coming to that contract, but T-Mobile and Sprint will likely bend over backwards for Google.

I have a feeling at&t and verizon will lock it down and put bloatware on it.

No Locked bootloader but updates may still come delayed because thats is what is happening with the Nexus 7 2013 LTE when VZW came into the picture.

I'm getting mine through Verizon but the discussion is the same.... will there be any difference between the Play Store and carrier versions. I think one of two scenarios will happen.
A. There's no difference, carriers will load them up with bloat. But who cares? If it's completely unlocked you will be easily able to root, wipe, rom, etc....
B. They lock the bootloaders. This would completely crush carrier sales. The majority of people interested in this phone are Android enthusiasts. Google knows that. Google also has to have good sales through the carriers at the new price point. So they likely would not agree to have a locked down Nexus 6 sold through carriers.
I am fairly confident the phones will be identical. This particular SoC, the 805, unlike all the other Qualcomm kits has discreet radio hardware not on the SoC. All of the 800/801 before it and the 808/810 after it have integrated radio hardware. I think this was an intentional agreement that Motorola/Google brokered with Qualcomm/Carriers. This way they can all sell one identical handset but the carriers will only push radio/modem updates to keep things working on their networks, but they will tell us that all software/OS updates will come from Google directly.
This ushers in a new paradigm in that for the first time we will have a truly unlocked device across all carriers and it is set up that way by design so carriers can control radio hardware and Motorola/Google can control the OS.

Well sure. It's possible. But as long as it's unlocked the addition of bloat is a moot point. You just root and uninstall the bloat. I am not familiar with the N5. None of the Nexus family has gotten my attention until now.

I'm seriously considering grabbing the N6 myself, even though the G3 was just recently unlocked I've never had a Nexus. I'm like you though, I see all the valid points as to why our Verizon N6 shouldn't be locked... But it's Verizon lol would it totally surprise you if it did end up being locked down??
The Turbo on the other hand most certainly will be locked down no?

I will only buy unlocked phones as I still am on the unlimited plan. I really hate that verizon has locked down many phones that I have wanted. I would buy the droid turbo or nexus 6 as long it's unlocked.

The Droid Turbo is probably locked down pretty good, if the previous Droids are any indicator.

Smartest thing to do probably is not get it on launch and just wait and see. I'd think it will be unlocked like many others have said.
One thing I'm wishing the N6 had though was a removable battery. 32/64 GB internal memory makes up for no SD card but... I really like having 2 batteries and it's a 3200mah battery right??
That Turbo battery is ridiculous..

Coming from a GNex running shiny ROM, I'm excited about the N6, I figure it would have to be unlocked being a Nexus device, however VZ has screwed us before.
I'm somewhat worried about the size, but could get over that. I'm figuring that with luck, VZ will place it on edge/installment, no one is going to outright buy it in their store IMO...

So I had issues with my S4 and it was still under warranty. Sent it in to Square Trade. The phones they sent back to me I had issues with as well. Square trade offered me to send in my phone and they will send me a check for 449.99. for my phone.
I'm debating on taking this offer.
My upgrade is Oct 30. I have a back up phone it's the S2.
Should I take the Money?

I'd definitely take the check. A brand new Galaxy S4 now can be bought for around $220 so $449.99 is more than you will ever get if you tried to sell it.
As for the new phone suggestions, it depends on what you want in a phone. You can get Galaxy S5 for $300 or LG G4 for $454 or Moto X Pure for $399.99
So basically, you can have newer phone for under $450 or just little more.

They're all rootable, but if you like flashing AOSP ROMs and want phone with more development, avoid the Galaxy S5 I linked to. It's AT&T version and they lock their phones pretty heavily, especially Samsung phones. Even developers here still can't unlock bootloader on our S4 and the phone came out 2 years ago!
Moto X Pure is best choice if you enjoy changing up ROMs since Motorola supports development scene. LG G4 is fairly new so there's not much development yet(root is available, though), but seeing LG G3, I'm sure it won't stay that way for long.
Since your upgrade is in October, wait for Google's announcement for their new Nexus phones on September 29. It might be something you like.

I was on a rom before I sent my phone in. All I'm really wanting with my phone is to be rooted and have Xposed on.
The 29th is right around the corner and I can wait to see what they have going on!

Should I buy the moto? Are you guys happy with it? Or should I get the giant nexus.

According to this post, 8 CUSTOM ROMs so far on Marshmallow (plus more if you include Lollipop) means no custom ROMs available for this phone...

Coming from a Verizon Note 5 I do not miss or regret switching to the Moto at all. The only thing that is better is the camera and that's not by much at all. Having a unlocked bootloader, root and some great custom ROMs to play with is well worth the switch. It runs sweet on stock Marshmallow too.

The note series are the best phones money can by specs wise I owed each one up till Note 4 but with the loss of the MicroSD on N5ote and inability to root (Verizon edition), I sold my Note 4 and moved to Moto X. As someone else had shared, the only thing I miss is the better camera quality.

Good choice, I've tried a bunch of phones this year and decided the Mxpe is the best overall phone available. That could change soon with the new phones coming but for the price and ability to unlock and customize with Roms and xposed mods it don't think it can be beat, even by the nexii.
Give us a reply after you spend some time with it. I'm running truepurex 2.6 ROM with xposed, gravity box, minminguard ad blocker, and YouTube adaway. GPS high accuracy, Google location history on and paired with pebble watch and get great performance and battery life.

Did you consider the LG v10. Especially when it's the same size, CPU and can be picked up for $500 on eBay.

As a matter of fact I did and just returned a V10 yesterday. The only better thing from my point of view is the removable battery and camera witch it isn't by much. I was going to purchase one through Verizon on their payment plan that would have cost about $10.00 a month but decided against it. I didn't want to be into Verizon for the payment plan plus no root, unlocked bootloader or Marshmallow really did it in for me. I know how Verizon and LG are slow with phone updates. Plus I really don't care for the 2nd screen. I know it can be turned off but I would lose the on screen notifications when the phone is idle. Other than that the V10 is a great phone and very well built. It definitely takes some great pictures but the Pure is up there too.

Do you think it's worth getting for 500? If I'm gonna get it (and return the pure) I'm gonna get the tmo version and root the hell out of it. No warranty though for the LG while my moto can be shattered 100 thousand times

$500.00 seems like a good price and being T-Mobile you can do whatever you want with it. Honestly if I could have a unlocked bootloader and root I would have kept it but I have to stick with Verizon because they treat me good. I did settle for a G4 for a bit over $200.00 to play with.

Thanks for the advice.
Thinking about it I think I will pass.
Snapdragon 808 does not really need 4gb or RAM.
And I don't really wabt to buy anything from eBay.
Plus I should save some money and wait for the next gen that is going to be out by the end if this year.

No problem. I think you made a better choice to wait and see what comes out next. That's partly why I picked up a cheap G4 for a 2nd phone to mess with.

I just realized.
The Nexus 6p is the same price as LG v10. And I did. It get that one since I got the Moto for 375 on Amazon.
Damn you buyers remours. Damn you my sweet capitalist way of life.

But in general. I love the Moto. Much better then the note and much faster (believe it or not).
The display and camera are the best but Samsung (being Samsung) screwed the OS and user experience completely.
Hopefully I can make a quick buck on the note 5.

I had a 6P too lol. I returned it because the build quality stinks. It's way too flimsy. There is a thread in the 6P section with peoples phones easily bending, not cool.
