[Q] Controlling S4 data session from external software - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

We're trying to connect commericial sprint and verizon s4 to a test software for LTE ftp throughput testing.
-We've enabled the DM mode but when we enable USB tethering it disables the ports.
-Dial up method dials out but cannot attach to the internet (Every time the dial up is enabled through hidden menu it loses signal then reconnects but the dial up is again selected as disabled).
-Tried using the 4G (ADB shell) method to generate throughput/Does not work, problem coincides with the first issue listed.
This happens on both Sprint and Verizon. Does anyone know how to go about doing this? What menu options need to be enabled? Our phones are not rooted and we would prefer them that way unless that is the only option. We do have MSL for Sprint phones.

Wifi and Internet Access on Verizon Stock ROM

Using the Off the shelf Verizon ROM with nothing else installed. the phone does NOT have a data plan.
When I turn on WiFi I am able to see all the networks but am unable to connect to any of them (secure or unsecure). The phone goes into "Connecting" mode and never connects to it. I've tried an open wifi (the one at starbucks), a WEP enabled wireless network (and yes I did put in the Netkey/password), and now a WPA network. All with the same result.
Everytime I try to do anything data related it tries to dial the #777 and do PPP over the cell line.
Is there anywhere/anyway to drop the Verizon Data Network. I deleted it and it comes right back each time.

Well there is no way to delete but there is a way to stop accidently dialing #777 by going to start>settings>connections tab>connections>Then under the carries's name (mine says sprint) there should be 3 clickable links click the one called Manage Existing connections>Press new>The setup will tell u how to do it for connection name i just used my name u can use anything you want press next after that>When it asked for the number dialed put #777 press next>It will take u to a login page Make a username BUT DON'T MAKE A PASS DO NOT MAKE A PASSWORD then press finish and choose the one you just made as ur primary one (put a dot in the little circle next to the name of the connection u just made) then press ok now test it out by hitting the internet button without the wifi on or anything if you did it right it should take you to a login page that you can just close to stop yourself dialeng #777
This is probably not the case, but if you can't even connect to unsecure networks, the signal strength is probably too weak. (Probably not the case if you are sitting right into the Starbucks)
I blocked data access on my phone and never went though the wizard on the phone. My phone doesn't even attempt to dial or do anything if i am not connected via ActiveSync or WiFi. Maybe you have a defective phone? Good luck.
Stock VZW ROM will have the default wifi power settings wrong to actually be able to connect to anything. Fix this by going to Settings-Connections-Wireless LAN-Power Mode and moving the slider all the way to Best Performance. This should enable you to connect to access points.

I always wondered what that power slider actually changes. I usually leave mine on best battery and still connect to my home network. What does best performance change?

Tethering between Samsung Focus wp7 and Iconia

Anyone have an idea if it possible to use tethering between these two devices? and if so how?
I don't know, is there a wifi hotspot mode available in your phone ?
I got acer liquid metal, and in the settings wireless, I can use tethering... wifi hotspot...
check if you do have similar option in WP7
Go to the Phone section (as if you were going to make a call)
Enter ##634# and select “Call“
It did not call anything. There should now be a “Diagnosis” option on the top of your screen;
Go to Diagnosis and a keypad comes up and enter *#7284# – This will bring up the Micro USB Test and Path Control.
Select Modem, Tethered Call.
The device will restart automatically and is ready for tethering.
But have to check

[Q] More than 2 devices connected to hotspot.

On my wife's and my own Galaxy s4 running FreeGS4 v2.0 ROM - the hotspot works via menu, I have a toggle widget for it that works too. I can connect up with multiple devices to either phone...
But neither phone will allow more than 2 devices to connect at any one time.
I went into the LAN settings to confirm settings are correct - and they are, DHCP is active and allow up to 100 connects - this was default, i tried lower and lower numbers, all the way down to 8, but neither phone will allow more than 2 connections at the same time.
I tried to toggled airplane mode on and off, I've tried rebooting. I've tried manually entering the settings.
I'm starting to worry that it is a flaw in the ROM itself, but a friend of mine who also has the same phone and ROM as I do claims he can connect more than 2. So I'm not sure but I am at hair pulling out stage at this point.
Anyone have any ideas?
edit - search works! I found the solution, and I feel 3% more stupid for somehow missing it earlier

go to settings - hotspot - "press on configure->show advanced options->maximum connections" Thanks
Click on configure hotspot and page down in the pop up menu that appears. Click the box that says show advanced options and then set the maximum connections you want to allow. You can also set 2.4ghz or 5.0ghz in this menu.

Is Sprint's GS5 intended to force Wi-Fi scans while data roaming?

I posted last week in a slightly different context but didn't see any responses. However I think there may be something happening here that Sprint doesn't want to talk about, or that Tech Support doesn't know about, and would really appreciate any insights.
I'm data roaming on European networks and my Wi-Fi switches itself on whenever (and only when) I am actively connected to the GSM networks here. I've booted in safe mode, verified all settings, disabled/killed Connections Optimizer, turned off location services, etc.
I started a Reddit thread to ask about similar behavior and a few other users confirmed seeing the same whenever data roaming (even domestically).
It seems like Sprint (or Samsung?) might have put in a "feature" to save data usage when possible in a roaming situation, but it is instead A) killing my battery, and B) causing my phone to connect to certain networks at times I don't want to connect to them.
Is my phone just being glitchy, or is this something else?
Samsung have included something called 'download booster' in their firmwares. It allows faster downloads by being simultaneously connected to wi-fi and 3G/4G networks.....
Have you checked to see if this option is enabled?

It has been enabled; I just tried force stopping and then disabled it, then turned my Wi-Fi off. However, ~30 seconds later, the Wi-Fi has switched itself back on again. I appreciate the thought and getting something new to try! But does not look like that is the culprit.
Might it have something to do with location settings? Select the 'mode' option within location settings and see if you are set for (I think) high accuracy which uses wifi as part of the connection system....

Nope, I've already set location to low-accuracy and also turned off location services. Also disabled all the "always scan for networks" settings, disabled/killed connections optimizer, and went into the *#0011# menu and disabled WiFi Power Saving mode, which some people have listed as a potential solution for similar problems.
Also talked to Sprint Tech Support, who went through most of these same steps and ultimately decided it must be a software glitch and advised a factory reset; I just have a hard time believing that a "glitch" could have such a "convenient" outcome. (Then there's also the fact that I got two other data points from people who experienced the same thing while roaming - and a third that's questionable - so I don't think it's just me.)
Is there any sort of logging feature I could enable that would show the source of the Wi-Fi is being triggered?

Tethering Problem

Hi! I have a problem with my new Moto G4 Play XT1602. Stock rom 6.0.1, no root.
I do not have a wifi, only SIM data connection.
APN is properly set, with "dun", and I tried many different SIM without changes.
When I activated the hotspot, other devices see the hotpost but fail to connect the network.
At this point, if I click the double arrow icon (drop-down menu) twice I deactivated and reactivated the data network and tethering starts (devices are properly connected) but It does not work anymore the network data in the cell.
It appears an exclamation mark near the Cellular data icon (the triangle with 4G/H+)
Summing, the devices connected to the hotspot use the data network but the phone itself is "offline", in not possible to use anything related to the network
When I deactivate the hotspot, I have to tap again twice the double arrow icon (drop-down menu) to bring the phone "online".
Is there any solution to simultaneously use the hotspot and the connection on the phone itself?
Thanks for any help!
