[Q]No music playback after 4.4 OTA upgrade - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
I upgraded to 4.4 yesterday. My GN4 is not rooted(though I have an unlocked bootloader for now) or anything. I had a stock ROM and upgraded OTA. After that I CAN stream music from my online library @ GoogleMusic, but files on the device - no luck with that. I have .mp3 and .flac files that used to play fine before the upgrade, but it's a no-go right now.
Do you have any advice?
I guess I'll just do a backup and then do a factory reset and see what happens. If everything is OK I'll restore and post back.
And if not.... HELP!

The .flac files are not supported with android 4.4...
Unless its a custom rom or update with the help pf factory images...

I didn't know that, but still - mp3 files aren't playing either...
P.S. I tried converting my FLACs to mp3s - no change

[Q] Stock Music Player Crash

I've been experiencing a weird issue with my stock music player. Whenever I play music, after a random time, the stock music player crashes without any error notifications or force close prompt. This happens when i'm browsing through the my collection in the music player.
I've tried over 6 different ROM's, possibly every kernel ever made for this phone(OC and non-OC), wiped cache and dalvik cache and factory resets a million times. Even the XXJPS stock rom(with stock kernel) gives me the same problem.
There is a strong vibration before the crash and two vibrations after the crash.
Though this problem stops when i downgrade my phone to an Eclair based stock ROM.
I really need an answer to why this happens please!
what rom you are using now?
Kyrillo v7.0 was using stock XXJPS before. Same problem irrespective of ROM or kernel changes. Only thing that works perfectly is any Eclair ROM.
I have a similar problem with the stock music app. I have a major lag with MixZing and DoubleTwist player has some weird bug where it starts up the last song played when the phone rings.. Winamp is the only player that works with no issues for me..
Hmm, though my problem is a little different. This completely stops whenever an eclair stock rom is installed. Weird!
I had that problem too. Just erase every data on your SD card.
Then can you put the music datas again on the sd card and it will work without hanging..

OMG thanks can't believe that actually worked! lol xDxD. Thx a million

Yes, even I had the same problem, twice. All I did was format my sd. And reset the device. But is it because of the low memory on the sd card?
It's solved.

Samsung Galaxy S, Very disturbing glitch when using mp3 as a ringtone

Hi
This is my first post on this forum. I am using galaxy S for over an year now, and have been experiencing a very strange problem:
All Kind of music files and videos play fine on my phone. Using a headphone and with speakers. But when I assign any mp3 song file as a ringtone, there is a very disturbing noise comes along with the music, when my phone rings. I also experienced the same thing when I try to play any mp3 file by going to file browser and playing it directly from there (Not by browsing the file into mp3 player songs list).
Phone Hardware Information:
Firmware Version: 2.3.3
BaseBand: I9000DDJV5
BuildNumber: GINGERBREAD.DDJV9
Hi,
Can please anyone help me on this issue. Im also exploring whether Rooting the phone will solve this issue.
Thanks,
~Pankaj G
Don't know if it could help, but what about to try factory reset? If you will still get that noise maybe it will be HW speaker problem.
Hi.
So that problem you described has been present ever since you got your phone? Have you had the same OS version the whole time or have you tried any other roms out there? If that noise problem occures only in the case of using MP3 as a ringtone, it seems to me to be merely a software problem which might get fixed by trying a different rom (like Team ICSSGS's RC4.2).
I would also start by updating software.
If you have not rooted the phone yet, connect your phone to pc in Kies mode, start Kies and update to latest firmware.
If you have already rooted the phone and Kies doesnt recognize it, start reading this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
Easy way:
Settings - Applications - Manage Applications - All - Media Storage
Press button "Clear data", exit settings and reboot phone.
Just can't see why rooting phone would remedy your problem.

Hi,
Thanks for your replies. To start with your queries, when I bought this phone, it was on Froyo, and there was no such problem. But then I updated to the current version i.e. Gingerbread 2.3.3 using Kies. When I updated initially there was no problem, but then after 2-3 days I started experiencing this problem.
And yes I tried to do a factory reset, but it didnt help. and the current version is the most recent version as per Kies.
Also, my phone is not rooted as of now and Im also willing to explore that option to solve this issue.
But the problem is that I have no idea about what exactly is the rooting of phone, what exactly is a ROM and what are the best ways of rooting and bricking the phone too. It will be very nice of you all, if I can be given a link to study about android OS and rooting methods.
Also, I am trying to record a video to show my phone's problem. Will share it as early as possible.
Thanks,
~Pankaj G
Did you try the method O-T suggested?

I realized one think on 4.4, not only was it slow(before my mistake the stock one wasnt)but I couldnt play music or use WiFi. So I got the CM Installer, I installed CM, It gave me a snapshot version, I coundnt make calls or play music, or youtube. So I installed CM 11 Nightly, Same problem persists cannot make calls or play music. Any help greatly appreciated.(My WiFi works though)

All of my audio or anything related to it doesn't work.Any ideas?

[Q] [HELP] Lost all audio/video

I have the Razr M, running stock 4.4.2 and have been having problems after an attempted flash.
So I managed to root the phone and then installed CWM Recovery 6.0.4.9. After this far in I presume I was rushing because I must have downloaded the wrong version of Cyanogenmod or something along those lines because after the flash my phone was almost bricked due to a low battery and no nandroid. I continued to mess around with it for a few more days until I managed to get back to stock 4.4.2.
Right away when I was back on stock I realized my phone had no audio capabilities at all, even when using an aux cord. Almost, for example, like the drivers on a pc were missing. Just nothing. Not long after I also noticed that any video function didn't work. Any sort of video in Snapchat/Youtube/Twitter/Facebook/ect won't work. Along with the video not playing, I cannot record videos either.
I have already re flashed the stock 4.4.2 zip (downloaded from Motorola's website) many times all ending in failed attempts to solve the audio/video troubles.
So there is my problem. Anyone have any ideas?
Anyone have any solution? Any idea at all? I have rooted a Droid Incredible before and rooted/flashed cyanogenmod onto another Razr Max also so I have a good idea of what is going on.

Media playback issue with Galaxy note 3 N9005 - Audio & Video

Hi there,
I've had my Galaxy note 3 over a year now, its been a brilliant phone which has been well looked after. Yesterday all of a sudden whilst sat at the desk in work I went onto YouTube and tried to watch a video. It said playback error I thought it was just poor wi-fi connection so I tried to play some music off the phone (via mp3s i've had on there for a long time). I then got a Music playback error - Couldn't play the track that you requested. I thought ah its probably just a reboot thing so restarted the phone & still got the issue. I tried all of the media on the phone, videos, music in different formats...nothing works. I decided to boot the handset in Safe mode to see if that would help. Same problem. I had a look online for known issues & a few mentioned SD card problems. I had no SD card in my phone.
I decided to backup all of my stuff via my laptop & give it a factory reset. I really didn't want to do this but had no real choice. Anyway the problem still persists.
I am completely confused to how half an hour earlier on the desk in my office it was absolutely fine, then shortly later it stops working. I've never had a problem with it. I've tried numerous reboots since & still no luck.
The camera still works, its just no audio what so ever via headphones or through the speaker.
I also tried a few different media players too. MX player lets you pay the video....where as the standard android player freezer the handset when you try to watch a video.
At first I kept getting a SoundAlive is not working, close error.
Each time I try to make a phone call too it says "Call not sent" and the handset locks up and freezes really bad.
Does anyone have any idea what might of caused this? Literally the only thing I can think of is the fact I purchased a new battery for it 3 months back which is a none Samsung battery but would the phone really act this bizarrely all of a sudden?
I really don't wanna have to go and purchase a new phone when this was working fine yesterday & nothings happened to it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Try a factory reset first.
as mentioned above I already have done. No luck. I really cant get my head around why playing back audio and video would cause the phone to come up with errors. Its as if its a pc amd the soundcard has dust in it or drivers arnt installed.

I finally managed to download the original firmware and reflash via ODIN but unfortunatley still no luck
Its such as shame as the phone works brilliant still, the camera, charging, internet, sms, 4g works perfectly fine as usual. Its just this strange media playback problem.
Does anyone have any final suggestions?
If the mainboard was damaged, could this fault just happen to media?
Thanks for your help
Start
Test a known file on a PC or Laptop to make sure it works .
Make sure its a format that your phone can play .
Copy to phone .
Test if fails try another media player .
Does the phone ring or play system sound check settings volume .
If fails then it looks like a hardware connection problem .
Sorry for reviving this old topic but the same error occurred on my device too. Not sure what caused it.
I updated my rom and replaced battery at the same time. Tried to install stock via odin, edit audio config files, install custom audio engines but nothing helped. My every action gave the same result - no media playback and audio proccessing app crashes. Samsung phone info shows empty space under "Sound Card".
I hope this is not a hardware failure but if it is any idea how I can check that?
What model ???
Sugest factory reset then flash a new stock rom via Odin .Install nothing else and test .

As the thread title suggest my model is N9005. I reset and flashed stock via Odin already and it didn't work. I can try and do that again tho.

I was messing around trying to make my phone surround sound and flashed the wrong mixer path and mine started to do the same thing as you guys described. Restored my stock mixer path and all was good, what I'm getting at is maybe do a search do a sound mod, one that is louder then stock and try that, maybe it will change something for the good for you. I've seen ones u can flash in recovery and they also have a uninstaller zip so u can revert back to stock if it don't work.
